Soup at 10 days post op

You are so lucky your doc lets you eat soup, pudding and yogurt at 10 days! I could only have liquids until 21 days. I am now on soft foods, but soup and pudding were definitely not recommended. It is just grand being able to at least eat some things, though! Good luck and try to follow your doc's instructions.....

Soup at 10 days post op

I understand the hunger but bacon & potato soup (while i believe you chewed it to death) wasn't a great choice. Your Dr & seems like your BF just want you to succeed... I'd like to suggest some tomato soup with fat free refried beans mixed in until thick as pudding. I find the protein from the beans really sticks with me. If you take the same logic and mix things into the plain Greek yogurt maybe you can work with that? I've taken peeled, seeded cucumber with a bunch of fresh dill and black pepper - tossed it all in my nutrabullet and it was extremely smooth, filling & tasty. Wishing you the best! 3. So I'm 10 days post op and I'm feeling super hungry. I'm allowed clear liquids and full liquids which also include strained cream soups, pudding, and yogurt. The only food that fills me up is greek yogurt but it has to be plain. I can't eat plain so I decided to get vanilla which isn't my favorite and honestly my palette is kinda sick of sweet foods. Soup is okay but not filling at all, so today I decided to try Progressos light potato and bacon without being strained. I chewed each piece up really good and gave it time to go down. I feel fine and satisfied for once. My boyfriend yelled at me saying I should stick to what my doctors say. Opinions/experiences? Sent from my SM-G900P using BariatricPal

    2/9 Surgery Date Team

I totally agree with MxKitty. 12 pounds is awesome! 10,000 steps will have you hurting. It's really interesting how different each doctor is in terms of recommended diet, check ups, etc. I had a phone consultation with a nurse last Tue. (1 week) and will see my doctor on the 25th. I feel like I'm doing really well. Went out in the sunlight today (feared I might go blind, but didn't) to visit my mom. I took my Shake and yogurt with me. I feel like I'm a baby on a feeding schedule! It will be nice when we can eat real food and blend in with the crowd. Oh, one thing: still no BM! I've been taking a stool softener every day. Suggestions? Don't want to die from poo poisoning or anything like that! Lol!

    Food variety

We were told no alcohol for at least a year. I am just staying away. I do not want to drink any calories except my Protein shake. I don't tend to have a lot of variety in my meals. I just don't have the room in my stomach. I am 9 months out and at goal weight (over 150 pounds lost). I work out 6 days a week. Just to get that out there. I typically eat around 800 to 1400 calories a day. It really depends on the day! For Breakfast it is usually a Protein Shake and a turkey sausage patty. Some days it is eggs and turkey sausage. Some days it is sugar free oatmeal. Those are my 3 to-gos for breakfast. For lunch, I either have zoodles with sauce and turkey meatballs, chicken and a green vegetable, Soup. dinner...we do "dump meals" that I prepare ahead of time and then freeze and then heat in crockpot. So, salsa chicken, orange chicken, bbq chicken, etc. Also fish, shrimp, or whatever we what on the grill. We usually have a green veggie with it. Snacks are usually greek yogurt, turkey, cheese, etc. Since I am in maintenance, my surgeon and NUT says I can have whatever I want in limited portions. I stay away from any trigger foods from my past. I still limit sugar and fried foods. I say all of that to say this: in losing mode, you have to be super strict. I see maintenance mode as just a modified version of that. Doc says to eat clean 5 to 6 days a week. That's pretty much how we operate. I do get carbs like brown rice, oatmeal, carrots. I eat air popped popcorn as a snack sometimes. Going out is hard. I can make wings at home that are baked without the skin so the calories are very minimal. I can only eat one wing though and some veggies. I still portion out my food on regular basis. I know my stomach can handle a half cup of regular food or almost a full cup of soup. If that is what it takes, then carry around measuring cups. I do!

    Soft foods yay! Suggestions?

Soft foods on my list was scrambled eggs, yogurt, refried beans, stuff with a puree consistancy.

    Soft foods yay! Suggestions?

Definitely NOT tortillas or bagels. First of all, those are carbs and you should be steering clear of them in general (not just through the post-op food phases). Second of all, I wasn't allowed any "soft whole grains" until I was in my solid food stage. For soft foods I was allowed yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken and tuna salad, scrambled eggs, oatmeal with Protein powder, flaky fish, ground or chopped meats, legumes (Beans and lentils), and canned or steamed veggies. I recall doing a lot of string cheese, shelly's baked ricotta (Google the recipe), scrambled eggs with melted cheese and taco sauce, refried beans, and Wendy's chili.

    Soft foods yay! Suggestions?

your doctor's office probably has a list of foods - I know mine did. Pretty much anything with the consistency of yogurt or cottage cheese. Scrambled eggs, re-fried Beans, etc. I wouldn't do tortillas or bagels for at least a few more months. Your stomach is still trying to heal from surgery and you don't want something to get stuck. Again, check with your doctor's office - and I think there is probably a thread here somewhere that covers this subject pretty well... Congrats on getting to the soft food stage. I remember that going on soft foods helped make me feel more normal after shakes for so many weeks.

    Weight gain during 6months...

betterme38 I lost a decent amount of weight before my surgery. This is what I did. 1) I started eating like a bariatric patient - protein/veg - cut carbs drastically. I also drank no Water 1/2 before or after meals. I found that I was less hungry doing this. 2) I drank a ton of water at other times. I have a 32 oz bottle that I filled twice and made sure I drank throughout the day. 3) I replaced one meal (breakfast) with a Protein shake. I found one I liked and stuck with it. On weekends I would have scrambled eggs instead of Protein shakes. 4) Healthy Snacks - yogurt, string cheese, etc. 5) I hit a plateau and was stuck at a certain weight for a few weeks...the only thing that helped me get through it was upping the intensity of my exercise. You can do it! Oh and practice CHEWING each bite 20-30 times and put the fork down between bites. The other things I did - I bought smaller forks/spoons and plates. I still eat off them now. It works.

    Favorite Greek Yogurt

I like Siggi's plain - for recipes in place of sour cream. They have a delicious raspberry and strawberry yogurt too. They've got other flavors but I don't care for those fruits. A serving is 100 calories, 0g fat, 12g carbs, 11g sugars, and 14g of Protein. The stuff is YUMMO.
  12. Find Protein shakes that you like, that don't seem like punishment. So many people have surgery and hate Protein Shakes, that just makes your life a lot harder. Find other sources of protein you like. Try yogurts, etc. It is better to know what you like now, than wait until you have a small healing stomach and have to guess.
  13. Tomorrow will be my 2nd nutritional visit and weigh in. I had my upper GI done this morning and had to swallow 3 different types of liquids for the procedure. One was a heavy solid white liquid...literally heavy. Im wondering if this hindered my weight of I havent digested it all yet. I ate pretty healthy today ..lots pf Protein..veggies and Water. To be exact I ate a 20gm Protein Bar for late Breakfast, 26g protein chicken breast pattie with spinach, walnut salad for lunch with vinagrette, 2 dried mango slices and yogurt for snack...30g Protein shake for dinner and tons of water. I just stepped on the scale and I am up 3 lbs in 1 day. .WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED??? You would think that I pigged out on junk food but I kid you not, i had no junk today. Needless to say I am quite nervous about my nut appt tomorrow. ..if i step on that scale and weigh only 1 lb less than what i did at the first appt...or worse ..weigh more..that cant be good. Im getting so close to completing everything I need and would hate to go backwards at this point.

    Ashland, Ky

Well I went to my in laws tonight for a bit and then to Kroger. The store was horrible. I ended up dizzy and we didn't stay long. I felt better once I got into the car. I carry my water every where. Just never know what can happen. I started Greek yogurt and it was heaven. I miss food so bad. Everything sounds so good. I can't wait until April 13th lol.

What's your favorite chicken salad recipe?

Wow some of these sound really good! I typically use rotisserie chicken, red grapes, red onion, dill pickle relish (too lazy to chop pickles myself), Ranch seasoning powder, light mayo and/or a little greek yogurt and chopped pecans. I try to put the Ranch seasoning on the chicken while it is still warm as it seems to absorb the flavoring a little that way. I sometimes add a little garlic salt if more seasoning needed.

    2 Weeks Out!

Congrats on 2 weeks pos-op! For my puréed phase I ate cottage cheese. Greek yogurt. Cream soups with unflavoured protein powder. Sugar free pudding with unflavoured protein. Beans once in awhile too,

    2 Weeks Out!

Congratulations! Time does fly when you are having fun! A few of the first things I had were cottage cheese, pintos and cheese (from Taco Bell), and Greek yogurt. I am nine months out and I still eat a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, and refried beans!

    2 Weeks Out!

It's officially been 2 weeks since I had surgery and I get to start eating pureed foods tomorrow! I can't believe I made it an entire month without solid food -- woohoo!! I have been SO tempted to cheat numerous times, but I resisted. My mom has been a great accountability partner in encouraging me to stick to the plan and I'm so thankful for her! Please spam me with all of your favorite mushy food ideas. I'm a bit nervous about what to try first...I'm thinking yogurt or pudding, so it won't be a huge difference from what I've been eating? My stomach can't handle sugar-free Jello since surgery, so I'm curious to see if these foods will work.
  20. I used to eat this pretty regularly during my losing phase - chicken salad on a bed of lettuce or with sliced tomatoes. I had a great healthy recipe but can't find it. I have made it from memory - not likely remembering it all! - chicken (cans from costco surprisingly good) - Greek yogurt, plain - diced apple - curry powder which gives it a slight yellowish look but adds to flavor Do you have a good and healthy version you like? Favorite Greek Yogurt

I love yogurt - have since I was a kid. I prefer the tang of unflavored, natural yogurt. I have one or two a day. I've been buying a lot of Chobani plain, lately. 90 calories, fat 0, Carb 7 (sugar 4), Protein 15g.

    Favorite Greek Yogurt

When I can make myself gag down yogurt, I buy the Dannon Light and Fit. I am not a big sweets eater and the texture of yogurt makes me want to yak. Now, that said, I am a BIG fan of plain Greek yogurt in the savory department. I use it in place of sour cream for dips (like french onion), in mashed potatoes, in guacamole, etc. I generally buy Oikos because it is richer in flavor and I buy full fat. It's a great sour cream swap!

    October List of Surgery's

@@60&goin4it thanks for asking how I am doing. My hair loss has slowed down now but my hair is so thin my wife said she could easily see my scalp. My latest figures are: 278.6 Current weight 3.8 lbs lost last week 77.4 lbs lost since surgery 124.4 lbs lost since July HW of 403 Having trouble figuring what to eat. Trying all my old food without bread, rice or Pasta and they are all too bland or something. Tried a pumpkin yogurt recipe the other day with one packet of artificial sweetener. It was way too sweet. We finally got my blood thinner levels where we want them. I am SO SO SO cold these days. It is hard to get used to. I made it to twoderland and now I am chipping away at the two's. I eat such a small amount at each meal that I feel like I can't get any variety. We took 8 huge bags of clothes to the thrift store and I still have two more. I keep thinking the weight loss is going to slow down but for the last month I am averaging 3.5 lbs lost every week. This just seems so crazy.

    Favorite Greek Yogurt

I now get the plain Fage 2% yogurt cups. They are 180 cals, 20 grams Protein, and about 6/8 carbs. I add blueberries to mine. I also like the 0% total cups, 100 calories, 18 grams protein and 7 carbs.. but I prefer the 2%. I used to like the light and fit, and the triple 0's, but the plain fage has nothing in them.

    Mindless snacking...

Why are you snacking? Are people bringing food to work? Is there someone who has a tasty treat on their desk that you can't resist? Is it just something to keep your mouth busy? Or are you actually hungry? If people are bringing food to work, avoid it. If you're the designated "snack girl" who is charged with keeping food on your desk because it's a centralized location, I'd ask a colleague to take over for you because it's causing you problems. If it's a tasty snack on someone's desk, start e-mailing/phoning that person when you need their help to avoid the temptation. If you like busy-food (I do!) then try replacing it with Water or hot tea to sip. I chew gum, too, and that helps. And if the issue is actual hunger, I'd bring a snack to work that's high in Protein (hard boiled egg, nuts, lettuce/turkey/cheese wrap, Greek yogurt, etc.) and plan to eat it when you know you're hungriest (for me that's 3:30-4:00). Hope that helps!
