    3 More Days!

Don't turn back, in the long run you won't regret it! I questioned myself too, I was laying on the operating table, and I kept saying to myself "what are you doing?!?" And after when it was all done, I still said to myself "what did you do?!?" But now, 7 weeks out, I have no regrets whatsoever! I'm eating less, have absolutely no pain, and i feel GREAT about myself! I want to shout from the rooftop I LOST OVER 20 LBS!! And the best part is knowing more weight will come off. You're lucky, you have support, I had told NO ONE, not the husband, kids, family, friends...It was a personal thing i was going through, i did it for ME and didn't want anyone saying it was a bad idea. And i would do it all over again in a heartbeat! Keep us posted!
  2. A few things to know about lap band surgery. If you have severe allergies, know that it complicates everything. I threw up every day due to mucous covering my hole. I eventually had to have the band opened completely due to this problem. I was throwing up, not eating much and still not losing weight. Carbonated drinks helped. (they say you are not supposed to drink carbonated drinks, but it was the only thing that got me through) Everyone is different; how your body reacts to the lap band will be an individual process. It is possible that you will lose your weight very quickly, then again it is also possible that you lose it very slowly. You are still in control of how much you eat. The lap band is not magic, although it does help. The thing I could eat the easiest was ice cream. So I had to ask myself... Did I go through all this pain and money (I paid out of my own pocket) to fail because I at too much ice cream? Wear a compression garment after surgery.(like a girdle) I had my surgery on a Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. (I had a sit down job) I would not have been able to do this without the compression garment. If I had to do it over again, I would have done the by-pass.
  3. M almost 3 months post op and everything seems to be good but now I seem to be going the opposite direction! Lately have been having pain in my stomach,my right side, constipation, dizzy and lightheaded with black outs, an today I got diarrhea and vomited a little! I'm still dropping weight, and I went to the doctors and I do have a UTI and he put me on meds. He did other tests but I don't like this at all its scary and hurts bad! Tmi but it hurts when u go to the bathroom it's really bad stomach aches and I can tell there's a lot of acid! But I called the dr informed them of my new symptoms and waiting...work sent me home! But for now I'm gonna o lay down!

    Feeling good...

So this past Saturday I actually went through that dreaded process of pulling out the spring/summer clothes!! I was trying to hold off until I moved, but I'm soooo glad I did it now!! For the first time I was excited because I KNEW all of those clothes were going to fit!! I was running late, but I had to try everything on!! I literally had a 4 ft by 3 ft pile of 90% brand new with tags still on them clothes!!!! And the kicker....some of them are TOO BIG!!!! But hell...I'm going to wear everything just once!!!! It's such an amazing feeling!! I drove out to Long Island for the weekend feeling better than I have felt in such a long long time!!! Today I came to work in a one of my new "outfits". This guy I work with who has never said anything to me about my weight loss watched me walk in. He was watching me as I came around to my desk. Then he said, "HOW much weight HAVE you DROPPED??" LOL... um 72ish?? He was amazed...he said that with what I Was wearing that you can really really see it now!!! Awwww... I feel even better!!! Just when you think it won't work....look again because chances are ...it probably already has!!

one more day til stage 4

Well since my post op visit where the dr. took two strips off only one has come off. I'm starting to wonder if they will ever come off without being pulled off. I am so ready to be able to clean all those areas.I've got one more day on my blended foods and then on to the stage 4. I'm still feeling very low on energy however seems in the afternoon I will get a bit more, but in the morning wow I usually feel like I am moving in very slow motion. I am eating my 3oz of protein and 2 tbsp veg at each meal and nothing more, however I could eat more because I don't feel full, but I don't want to get used to eating more and then when I get my first fill, have to go back to eating small amounts again. The good thing about this is that I am not hungry, and I pretty much have to make myself eat each meal. I finally don't have that bloated feeling anymore, my stomach is starting to feel like normal again. My weight today 262.4 21.6 lost since pre-op diet-June 9th

    Delivered's Journey

March 30, 2009 189.8 lbs. This morning I weighed and was happy to discover that I am continuing to lose weight. I really feel like I am at the "sweet spot" that everyone refers to. I am trying desperately to meet my three goals. 1. 10,000 steps...this morning I walked three laps (over two miles) instead of my usual two laps around our subdivsion. 2. I am working on my water intake. 3. I am eating my protein first and decreasing carbs. For breakfast, I had a shake and for lunch I had grilled catfish. So...I am on my way!

Do I really need a NUT?

I've not had any trouble with sugars. No dumping. I do try to watch sugar content but I don't like the 1 gram sugar protein drinks. Gag. I drink mostly water. I do the 1/2 sugar oj. My typical day breakfast: 1 cup special k protein cereal +protein from milk. Or 2 strip of bacon Snack: slice of cheese and crackers Lunch: apple and a jif to go peanut butter cup Drink water l day at work Dinner: about 2 oz meat, a couple bites of veggies cooked in bone broth (extra protein ) More water And that's about it. I'm averaging about 5 lbs a weight weightloss. So I'm not sabotaging anything. 110 lbs in 5 months I think is awesome. But I do worry about the hairloss. It has been my one diwnside. Energy is through the roof so I'm not lacking energy. I feelngreat. And if 2 bites feels me up I quit. I could care less about food anymore. But I do want to make sure i. Getting enough of the right things in my body. So if anybody has any food suggestions besides protein shakes which I honestly won't do. They are so gross. I'd appreciate suggestions. 9. Hi I am a 54 yo mom of 5 my oldest is 33 my youngest 16, I have what is commonly called in my office the (initials of our company) spread. A lot of us that work night shift just can seem to get rid of the weight. So last spring I opted for the lap band procedure and was very gung ho did everything up to aneseolgist appt but ended up backing out due to unexpected expenses. I was very heartbroken and frustrated and felt like it was my only chance. I had done well on the pre opt diet losing 32 lbs before surgery. But being bi polar my depression got the best of my and i spent the next mo wanting to die because of my lost opportunity--then i pulled myself together and ended up meeting a friend of my daughter who went through my dr and had had the sleeve procedure. As i watched her progress and describe her journey i decided this was the way to go, The silver lining in my black cloud so to speak. I have circumvented the cost problem and had my new appt with my surgeon yesterday, after receiving approval from my insurance, independence BC/BS,for the new procedure. It seems a little surreal at this point, but I am so thankful that my first choice fell through. Now I am ready to ramp up again and will start working on my weight now. I want my liver to shrink as much as possible. My best friend and I are coordinating our surgeries and are assured that a January date '12 will work out great. Now we wait to talk to the coordinator to contact us to make that appt. Wish us luck--our preferred date is Jan 16. Don't let any obstacals hold you back fight for what you want even if you have to get a new dr.
  10. I had my surgery August 30, 2014. Every day since then I have suffered with severe nausea and vomiting. When I woke up from surgery I also had a runny nose and every time I eat my nose pours After a few bites I get so nauseated that I can't finish and or I start vomiting. And the really sad thing is I have lost very little weight. What I can eat is junk, popcorn, chips, candy. I can only drink a small amount of fluids or I throw up if I drink too much. I take Prilosec twice and day and a probiotic twice a day. I have no energy and dread every meal. Thanksgiving we went out to eat, I took 3 bites and ran to the restroom to throw up. I have had several EGDs done, all normal and a test where I drank and they timed it and it was normal. My surgeon has written me off, said he knew of nothing else to do. Am I going to be liked this the rest of my life? Help, please
  11. Hi all! I am brand new to this site and to weight loss surgery. Alittle about myself... I am turning 30 this year. Married, Mother of 3 beautiful children. Been overweight since I was a teenager. Got worse when I started taking birth control. Then I got heavier as I started having children. Tried every weight loss thing I can think of. Everything from Weight Watchers to Atkins to Curves. Most I was ever able to lose was 30 pounds which I ended up gained back plus some. Been a struggle for me for years and at this point in my life I am tired of the cycle. I am over 100 pounds overweight and BMI is 41.1. I want to be healthy and happy for my family and kids. Want to be able to run around with them and not get out of breath. Want to be able to fit into normal clothing. So after researching weight loss surgery for quite some time, I decided to see if my insurance would cover it or at least most of it and I just found out that they do. So now I am on my journey to finding the right weight loss surgery for me and the right Dr. I am looking into the VSG and the RNY at this point. Not sure which would be best. I still need to double check with my insurance to see if the VSG is even covered because I heard that some insurance companies won't cover that specific procedure. Any info and advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  12. I am 5 wks postop. Have lost a total of 24 pounds counting 2-wk liquid preop diet. In 3 wks, I had lost 1 pound. I've been eating about 500-600 cal a day, and today I gained a pound! Just walking for exercise so far, and getting very frustrated.

    Camera Shy

I never really ran from the camera because I figure it is what it is. The weight is apparent, even if you don't want to see it in a photo. Everyone sees it when I'm out and about so trying to shield myself from seeing it, I feel, is futile. I may not like what I see but it's me. I walked past a mirror at a department store once and that ruined my day but I got over it. Then again, I have a performance background so I'm used to putting myself out there; good, bad, ugly, pretty.

    Leak?

I hear that we gain weight at first due to all the gas and fluids. I've gained 3 lbs too and I haven't consumed no more than 500 calories since Thursday. I'm more concerned about this pain, just going to take it one day at a time

    10-17-2007

Well, tomorrow morning is the big day. I can't believe that it is finally here. I haven't been very nervous today. My Grandma being here probably helped with that. She is very supportive. I have packed my bag for the hospital. I have to get up at 5:15 in the morning. We have to leave here by 6a.m. just in case of traffic or any other delays to be to the hospital by 7:30. I don't know much of what to say... I'm kinda speechless. I think I am in denial about what is really happening. It must be some sort of defense mechanism so I don't freak out. Either that or I've just accepted what is happening and that's that. Either way the next time I post I will have joined the band wagon! Take care everyone!:car: Here are my measurements: 9-18-2007 10-18-2007 weight: 295 BMI: 46 w: 270 BMI: 43 bust: 53 1/2 in bust: 51 1/2in waist: 55 in waist: 50 in hips: 57 in hips: 56 in thigh: 35 in thigh: 33 in calves: 21 in calves: 20 in arms: 17 in arms: 16 1/2in I'll have to figure out next time how to post this so it shows up in columns. Nothing fits in a bad way...

I am pre-op. Surgery is June 3, and I am so frustrated with the wait to have my lapband. Nothing fits me anymore. I am wondering if I should start a liquid diet now or wait until I see my surgeon on May 5? I guess if weight loss were that easy I wouldn't be here in the first place...
  17. So I'm getting pretty small (compared to what I was) and my stomach is in great shape. My port is so noticable and I want to replace it with the thinner one they have available. My doc said this is an option once I get to my goal weight. Does anyone have experience with this or know more about it? Have you done it? Is it much difference? I'm a cash patient, anyone know the cost? Just trying to see if the surgery is worth it. Would appreciate any info you have on it!
  18. This is all fantastic info to hear!! When I asked my NUT if I should be counting anything other than Protein and Water, she said no. My surgical plan and team was and is so awesome I didn't question her. I assume at one of the post op support meetings she'll go into further detail as I progress. @@Rogofulm So as far as counting carbs, no I haven't which means no ketosis (so funny how many of us must have tried Atkins at one point that we all know what that is!!). I have had a little bread over the holidays and a little Pasta and a little rice (once I was cleared for sushi I ran to the restaurant!) But not really excessive I don't think. But certainly enough to pull me out of ketosis if I ever went into it! BUT a girl has to have her chocolate now and again. I did on occasion indulge in that, small levels but none the less. If I did it I watched any sugar and fat intake for the rest of that day, and thought I was handling that well, but maybe not. I think you may have hit the nail on the head with water... No I haven't been getting the right amount of liquids and yes on this high proten diet, I am really worried about damage to my kidneys. I am really struggling with this one. I used to just chug a bottle in the morning drink all day, chug more at night drink into the evening but with a 4oz stomach that is no longer possible. I just recently found an app online that is supposed to remind you to drink! I haven't tried it yet Makes me wonder if I can increase it if I'll notice any immediately? i too @ready2B have been snacking on Peanut Butter and crackers, chose LF (low literally everything) crackers that taste horrible with a little PB and thought that was ok. Maybe not. @@Susanjoyce392 and @@AngryViking Even though I've not lost a pound in 7 weeks, people I see regularly are commenting on how different I look, so maybe inches are still coming off? Good to hear others are in a stall. I was worried that this isn't what it is. That it's just a total weight loss and not a stall at all!
  19. I gained 10 lbs. from the day I was admitted to the next day when I left the hospital. Took awhile for all those fluids they pumped into me to exit my body. As long as your calories are low, and you're following your surgeon's plan, it'll come off soon.
  20. So excited today! Had surgery on 10/23 at 240. I was 207 at Thanksgiving and stayed there until Christmas. I was so frustrated and couldn't believe I had my stomach removed and STILL wasn't losing. In the meantime, I dropped about 1.5 sizes during that month and as I read about what it really means to lose and regain Water weight, I felt a bit better. And now for the amazing part-- after the month long stall, I am now at 195 today! I am down 12 lbs in less than 2 weeks following that long stall! So hang in there and follow your program and you will break through it!
  21. A pound a day is really good results, I think. I had my sleeve about the same time and I'm seeing similar weight loss. Keep trying foods to find what works for you. I know I was on the phone to my doctor's office just after surgery because the clear liquid diet was not working for me. I couldn't stand the taste of clear protein drinks at all, so I was just not eating. They gave me clearance to go ahead and move my diet up because nutrition was more important than a schedule. There are plenty of things out there (Better than Boullion is probably the best tasting broth I've ever had) that do taste delicious. If you think your body wants it, try a little and see how you feel. If you don't have some unflavored protein powder, get some. You can put it in to foods you find that you like (just don't cook with it, I made that mistake once and ew >.<). Get creative. I know for a while I was putting sriracha in tiny amounts of food because I LOVE spicy things and it was just enough to make it taste delicious

Intro: I'm ranting like an idiot to let it all out of me.

Chin UP!! I have a 6 year old daughter and i pray that she does not go through what i have. I have been overweight since i was 15 and turned obese in my mid 20's. I wasted a lot of time. I never put myself down, but living in a country (colombia) where i was taller and fatter that all my class mates was hard. Specially with the boys telling me that i would be pretty if i lost weight... what?! I got the band to make a change, i need to be around for my kids and i also want my daughter to look at me and feel proud...she already can see the diference. I will do anything in my power to make sure she takes care of herself and knows that what she puts in her body will affect her. Good luck with your surgery. You will do great. And even though Korea seems like a far away dream.... if you are determend , dreams do come true.
  23. i have been stuck at the same weight for coming up on 4 weeks. i really dont know what to do....i just had the surgery done may 9th and i thought for sure i would be dropping alot at first. what should i do.....i am gettting so down and depressed about it...i know people stall but for this long???? i would just like to know if anyone else went through this and started losing.

August 25th will be my rebirthing day.

Bigoux, I felt the same way. My weight loss has been slow but steady and I am pleased. Congratulations on your weight-loss!
  25. Hi! I was banded Nov. 17th and have lost 26#. I wish it were more, but I have been slacking on the exercise lately and am not at my sweet spot yet, so I know it will come. I think I just thought that I would magically drop all this weight after surgery, but it doesn't work that way! Oh well. I am losing more than I would have without it. My husband and I just started the couch to 5k running program, so maybe that will speed things up. Good Luck!
