Do you set short term goals?

I have several NSV type goals...but as far as the actual weight goes (# wise)...they way I look at it is "ooooh, I can't wait to get into the 230s."....then the "220s" then the "2teens" etc etc (I've been doing this since I was in the "270s" and it works for me. I don't even care how long it takes me to get to the next set of "10s"....as long as I get there. So, there really isn't even a deadline for these "minis". It seems less oppressive and daunting to me that way...I can't look at my end goal or it's disturbing!!! LOL

Do you set short term goals?

    1. I would like to start toning and shaping now. 2. I know I am being greedy, but I want that last 15 lbs GONE! 3. Again greedy, but I want to be a size 9 or solid 10 4. Wearing a bikini by the time the LBT cruise comes around next June!
  3. Hi guys, I have a confession to make. :phanvan I do not exercise.:think I did my half hour per day last summer during my pre-op diet...but haven't got off my butt since then... I spent thousands on this, travelled across the country, relearned how to feed myself, dropped 75 lbs, etc... You'd think I could take that extremely important step and EXERCISE this new body. I have no excuses. I weigh so much less, moving should be 10 times easier...why am I so lazy?!! I'm ashamed of myself. I need a kick in the butt. Seriously folks. Wind up those kickin' feet. I've been reading dozens upon dozens of threads about what everyone is doing, and how they are taking care of themselves...and secretly hoping it will motivate me enough, but so far all I feel is guilty and LAZY. I love you guys... ...does anyone have some tough love for me? lol

    Were you a diabetic?

Question- I was banded 10-8-03 and I'm doing great! Losing weight eating lots of different foods. Before I was banded I was a type 2 diabetic for just over 1 year and took pills to control my blood sugar. 10mg glucotrol and 500 mg of gluopauge Every since surgery I have NOT taken any of my pills and have been okay. Well, at least I think I've been okay. I have not been testing everyday but maybe every 3rd day. My blood has been 140- 150 or 160. Under 200. Last night after I ate some cot cheese and applesauce I got a head ache and I had 8oz of ice tea and it went away. Then again today I had not had Breakfast yet and my head started hurting so I tested my blood and it was 153 I ate and felt better.. Did anyone have to go back on there meds? Did anyone stay on there meds? Just need some insite on what to do here. I'm affraid that if I lower my sugar by pills I'll be to low since I'm not eatting as much these days? and then be a shaking mess. Any suggestions? I hate to call my family doctor about this since he was so pissed I was having the surgery in the first place. THANKS!!!
  5. My name is Rebecca and this is all so new to me. I will be having the sleeve done in about a month, but my journey started about 10 mths ago witht the nutritionist, PT, psycologist, primary care and surgeon. I am ready, but very nervous. Anyone out there with regrets?

    What Am I Doing Wrong?

Those are great results. You should average a loss of 10 lbs a month. You're doing great. Everyone losses at their own pace. The slower you lose the better your skin will get back.
  7. If you sip water all the time, that's perfect! I won't lie to you, it is hard adjusting to not drinking water while I eat, but if I drink as much as I can and then set the timer for 10 minutes, eat, set the timer for an hour, and then get busy, I'm fine and you will be too.

  10. My cravings is and always has been "saltys"...not sweets (though I did enjoy the odd chocolate bar!). I'm a sucker for chips (certain flavours only) and cheezies etc. I'm only 10 days post-op but I'm still craving them....though admittedly not as bad. They are in my thoughts though, that if for sure!! Of course, I'm still on "full" liquids so any chance of having a chip anytime soon is quite far down the road. Maybe it can be a mushy though if I chew it up really good first!!! hehe.....Nah, I'll be good!

    almost a month!!

Hi Dean, I was banded May 15th and I had my first fill today. I lost 10 pounds since surgery and the nurse said that was very good! She said a lot of patients don't lose anything in the first month and some even gain. So don't worry about it, you're doing great. We're all anxious to lose the weight fast but it's really not healthy to lose it too fast. You're on a new journey and the weight WILL come off!

  13. Well, today, I had my consultation with the nutritionist. That was last on my list of things to do before I get my pre-op visit with my doc! My EKG, blood work, psych consult and now this was all I had to do (no exercise visit because doctor felt like I was okay without it). I've already gained weight since my last visit! YUCH! I am still looking into the sleeve versus the band, but I am leaning more heavily towards the band at this point. I have to have all my questions answered before I make a decision. I talked to one of the office folk today and she is going to send me a series of EMMI videos to watch. I feel so much better about the whole PB/Slime thing. It's just gonna happen and I'm gonna be prepared for it. I talked to the nutritionist at length about it and how to prevent it. I think the hardest things for me will be: 1) giving up diet soda, 2) not drinking with meals, 3) emotional-in-between-meals snacking. I have so much support from my family for this to work. I have such high hopes. I am super scared about it though. Thanks for all the support from you guys. This site has been a life saver! K Pre Op appointment - March 27th Highest weight 250 (10 years ago, lost it with exercise and refusing to diet - just eating better) Current weight 218 Goal 145

    Almost 6weeks out rant

I can sympathize with you! I lost 10 my first week...then only like 4 lbs over the next 4 weeks! I was shocked because I was hardly eating. I felt horrible but after week 5 I got into a steady loss cycle. I only get on the scale every 7 - 10 days and I stay away all the other days. I was obsessing about the scale and it was not good. Now 12.5 weeks post op I am down 63 total from my highest weight. Hang in there! Don't get discouraged it really has not been that long. I know it feels like that number should be moving faster - I do know! Keep drinking water, get your protein, exercise...take your vitamins!
  15. Ok here goes, i was banded june of 2010, i weighed 215, i did fine and lost 60 lbs over the last two years, then in october of 2012 i felt i was more hungry and was putting on a little weight so i went to my gastro for a fill, when the asst dr looked at the band under floro i was told it had prolapsed and all the Fluid had to be removed for one month, i was pretty bummed to say the least, after the month i had gained 10lbs and they put a couple ccs in the band, sfter a couple weeks of no restriction i went back to be told it had prolapsed again, fluid was removed again for one month (this of course was during all the eating holidays of course) i went back in dec and had it filled again, again no restriction even though they say looking at the band under fluro that it is tight enough!!, finally in febuary of 2013 i went back to see the surgeon himself instead of his assistances and told him about everything that had been happening, he pulled up the photos of the past fills and unfills and said it had NOT prolapsed!!!! he took me down to radiology and under fluro checked with blue dye and confirmed all was well he put me to 3ccs and said i was tight!!! well guess what?? i have absoulutly no restriction what so ever and have gained 30 lbs through this mess and have during this mess i had new insurance with no bariatric coverage and recieved a bill foe 1700.00 for all the times i was back and forth for fills!!! i have gotten so desperate i purchased 19 gauge 1.5 inch needles and saline and am planning on adding a fill by myself!!!! PLEASE anyone that can add insight to any of this please help i am desperate, frustrated and fat again,!!!!! PS every time i went back in i was questioned about my eating and made to feel this was my fault and i have to do better, WELL hello i am obviuosly an overeater and had the lapband fpr help in this area!!!
  16. I thought this rule was funny - but I have to say, it's not an issue because I simply cannot drink after a meal. And if I drink within 10 minutes of eating, you can bet I will see it again. If I drink when I am eating, it hurts. If I drink to soon after, it comes back up. Doesn't take any discipline for me - it's simply not possible. But, my band is TIIIIIGGGGHHHTTTT.

I hardly have any Protein HELP

Some great suggestions here for you to follow. Since you are only about 6 weeks post-op you need to be careful that you are following your surgeon's post-op food plan and not introducing solid foods or difficult to digest food too quickly. You stomach has been through a MAJOR TRAUMA and you need to give it time to heal properly. It can take up to 6 months for the swelling to completely subside and the healing to complete! My second focus is to suggest you adjust your state of mind..........you've lost 35 lbs! In 6 weeks! When was the last time you lost 6 lbs/week? Not losing much? Wow! I am 10 months post-op and my average loss right now (over those 10 months) is 2.85 lbs/week. You are losing LOTS! Believe me! And if you happen to be stuck (or stalled) right now, that is completely normal. Type "Week 3 stall" into the search box in the top right corner of this website. You'll see alot of people stop losing weight temporarily around this time period. It's great that you're looking for advice on protein intake (perhaps you should start logging your food on a website/app such as MyFitnessPall?). Just remember that your weight loss is a journey that is non-linear and you will have stalls, periods of fast loss (that sometimes don't make sense!) and some slow periods (but still losing). Your body is trying to figure out what's going on. It's making adjustments and adapting to it's changing physiology and energy stores. Give your body time, and your mental health with thank you! Good luck!

    What Am I Doing Wrong?

I too had a very long stall(or a very slow second month). I was sleeved aug 27. My highest weight was 256. My surgery date I was 236. And 2 months out I was 211. 45pounds. Today I am 206. And at the 50 pound milestone. The second month I was sooo discouraged. Because most of that 45 pounds was lost in the first 2 weeks. I talked to some fellow sleevers and discovered that my protein and water intake was way too low. You need a minimum of 60g of protein a day but 70 or more is better! And should also be drinking 60oz of water a day. The other tip I have is keep your carbs under 40(under 30 is better). I agree with everything lollyfiddy1965 says. Because my weightloss was slower then I liked I also began working out. I am on the elliptical 5x a week for 20-30mins. I do some weights 3x a week. And I play rec volleyball for an hour every Tuesday. And I curl every Friday for 2 hours. I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken and fish. My typical day is also very similar to lollyfiddy1965. I expect my third month to be spectacular as long as I keep following the guidelines. There are still many days where I struggle to meet the requirements. Max 800 calories, max 40g of carbs. Minimum of 60 protein(aim higher) And min 60 oz of water. Keep track of your intake. I use myfitnesspal...a wonderful tool. Hope our tips help you thru this difficult time! And try to remember that it's 35 pounds you'll never gain back! And stay positive it will come!!! I spent my second month in tears(which I'm told is normal) but I've had a much more positive outlook the last 10 days.

    bc/bs- blue access

I have bcbs of mn and mine was submitted yesterday! I hope it works, I was denied within 3 days last time because of miss info from ins to doc they said I needed 3-4 pre op req visits I actually needed 6 for the sleeve, so I'm done now and should be no fight but ins is ins so who knows! They have 10 days or so he said to approve or deny. I'm a revision and on the books for June 10 pending approval!

    Chocolate Addiction....

I save my viactiv carmel until after 10:00 p.m. It gets me thru the evening without snacking. I try to pretend my chewable centrum is like a sweet tart--but it doesn't hold a candle to my viactiv carmel.

    Fill Guidelines

:unsure:I have 6 cc in my 10 cc band. I don't feel any restriction at this point. Is this normal?
  23. I had my second fill a few weeks back, which brings me to 2 cc in a 10 cc band. Honestly, I have not able to eat much since. And what I do eat usually gets thrown up within 15 minutes. But even though I am having a hard time, I don't want to unfill ~ I am losing weight so fast now. I just wonder how long I can keep this up. Grrrr.
  24. Mrs Bubba, I also had a rough third fill a few weeks ago. The Dr. could not find the top of the port. I was poked and pressed on for atleast 10 minutes. He finally got it in and gave me a 1cc fill. Well needless to say I was nauseous and very sore. I called into work the next day just so I could rest. I think all the pushing hurt my insides. I am also very gassy with this past fill. When Im hungry I belch and when I eat a little too much I belch. I also get the pain in my left shoulder often. Hope your feeling better. Just wanted to let you know that you were not alone.
  25. 1) I gained all my weight back plus 15. My band worked initially but I could never get a fill I could live with. Even the slightest fill caused food to get stuck. I gave up on fills within the first year. Even unfilled I struggled to eat right. Protein first meant I was throwing up. I learned to eat around the band rather than go back to surgeon and deal with it immediately. 2) I waited 10 yrs from band to revision 3) I started pre op for sleeve 3 months before surgery by choice. I was mentally ready even if I had to jump through all the hoops first. I lost 35 lbs. 4) I've lost 46 lbs. I am 2 weeks post op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
