    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

WOW!! Fluffy, the difference between month 12 and 13 is spectacular... your strategies are really paying off big time!! it looks significantly more than a change of 5lbs!! I am trying to follow in your footsteps. I feel like I'm really strict in what I'm eating but last weekend I thought I would try and introduce a little more veg into my lunch - so I cooked turkey mince with spinach, celery, mushrooms, wild garlic leaves and an onion. I ate one portion which amounted to 200 cals (my totals for the day are under 700 cals, and under 20g of carbs (10% of total, under 40% of fat and 70g of protein) and I gained 1.5lbs which has taken me since Sunday to lose what I had gained from that one meal... sheesh! Maybe because I have the prolapsed disc to deal with at the moment I'm not moving enough... so hopefully things will get back once it gives me less pain... at least it's keeping the arrthymias in better check while I'm resting up... My head witch is concerned that I might not be able to sustain this uber strict regime... I know what she means because when my head tries to go into melt down, all I want to reach for is anything on the forbidden list... at the moment, I can just about manage that intense urge by having a 38cal hot chocolate (we have Highlights in the UK) and that can satisfy my craziness ... or I have a protein bar which is my second option... but mostly I manage without... Calories TOO low?

Thank you for this! That helps so much. Of course anecdotal evidence is no replacement for research, but with most of the ‘normal’ weight and calorie intake recommendations based on 20 year old made up people it’s great to hear about your experience. 500 would have felt insanely low as a level to get out of bed and function on let alone exercise on, but if I swapped my fortified milk for more lean meat protein I’d be there right now. Seen some of your story elsewhere so I know you had lots of back and forth with nut, but essentially no obvious Ill effects. Crazy isn’t it. Also blows my mind a bit the concept of eating up to maintenance. One of the blessings of this process is the very small meal size. I have food phobias that prevent me from swallowing food if I ever feel under pressure to do so. Resulted from dinner ladies at school repeatedly forcing forkfuls of food down my throat until I thew up when I was 5. Specific foods that was done with are out, plus that anxiety response that closes my throat and makes me nauseous. That bedded in over the years as my resulting picky eating lead to being made to sit through ll dinner services until I’d eaten cold food on my plate, or the smallest kids were done. Missed break times, so double whammy with lost exercise and more negative food association. Getting packed lunch as a result of my Mum forcing a school policy change was the best day of my life, but by then the damage was done and I carried on seeking out ‘easy’ and ‘comforting’ food and avoiding social situations that might involve pressure to eat and trigger that anxiety. The hugely limited meal sizes have really started to dent that for the first time in my life. My diet had already become vastly broader or I wouldn’t have been able to attempt this, but knowing I only have to get 8-10 mouthfuls of something new down means I’m going food places I haven’t before. There have been some fails with a rush to the bathroom, but not many. That, in a hugely roundabout way, is why I fear upping calories for maintenance. It may be really tough to get quantities of naturally very low calorie healthy but ‘difficult’ food in. Whoah - war and peace again, sorry! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I had gastric bypass on 3/19 and I am about 2 1/2 weeks post-op. My first two weeks after surgery I was on a full liquid diet. I moved on to the next phase of my programs diet on Tuesday. We do not do puréed food at all but move directly to solid proteins. Before switching I was struggling with knowing when I was full or hungry. Once switching to solids I can for the most part tell when I should stop eating. For most foods I can eat about 2 oz. However, tonight I had some homemade chili for dinner and I was able to eat a cup worth of chili. I’m not sure if it was because it was a liquid and had small bits of beans and hamburger but after I ate it I was shocked how much I ended up eating. I feel like sometimes I don’t have any restriction to my new stomach. How much are you able to eat at 3 weeks post-op?

    Weight Stall Rant

I was sleeve on 3/26. On surgery day, I was 327.6. At home, I was at 333, which I understood was from the IV fluids. I was on Clear for a week and now I’m on full liquids until I follow up with my surgeon on 04/08, then I start my puréed phase. So far I loss 10 lbs and I’m disappointed with the weightloss. I admit I not the best at getting my water intake in I’m only taking 20+ oz never 64. On a typical day, I drink 2 premier protein, so I get 60 g of protein and for dinner it’s some sort of soup/broth. Sometimes I eat a SF jello or SF popsicle as a snack. I try walk atleast 5 miles throughout the day. Yet the scale isn’t moving below 316 now. I am not taking any medication now, I was on omeprazole but I don’t need it anymore. I also believe I have PCOS, which I know can affect weight loss. I’m honestly disappointed with my progress. 😫

    Narrowed it down

Geez! I'm so glad you posted this. I'm torn between 2 facilities. BariatricPals & Endo. Both have very good recommendations and highly qualified doctors and staff. One is closer & <$, the other is a tiring flight from Seattle and >$. The <$ is very inviting as the >$, I'm in constant turmoil at this point. I don't plan on having surgery until September 2019 unless I can get the $$$$ sooner. I'm so glad there is another soul out there riding the fence as well!

    April 2019 Surgeries!

My pre op time frame is 10 days protein and 2 days clear liquid starting on the April 17th. I went to the preop and post OP class today with dietitian and nurse. Post up on day one is clear liquid and advance to puree starting 2nd day after surgery, or while at the hospital on day one. They told us to do our best on the puree stage. This last for 4 weeks. We have to make sure we get in 50g protein and 48-64 ozs of water. I was suprise that puree stage is so soon, but dietitian said it is to get our digestive track moving again so that we can use the muscles.
  7. Hello my name is Diana, so far I am having my surgery on April 8 at 12:30pm. So i have to get to hospital at 10:30am. Im worried only for the weigh in, because Ive read some where that if you don't loose weight in two week liquid diet then they cancel surgery. MY two week liquid diet was like this. I'll write what my paper says. BREASKFAST: Protein shake LUNCH: 3 oz grilled chicken, spinach salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, red beans and beets) + olive oil and vinegar dressing DINNER: Protein shake SNACKS: Greek Yogurt, sugar free apple sauce, fresh fruit (berries), whole grain crackers ( 3-4 ), sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles sticks , carrot and celery sticks, they also said I can have sugar free/ fat free PUDDING. ( only had pudding twice ) BEVERAGES THROUGHOUT THE DAY: Your choice of water, crystal light, diet Snapple, diet Gatorade, Tea or coffee ( sweetened with a sugar substitute ), fat free milk/soy milk/almond milk. 2 DAYS PRIOR TO SURGERY - CLEAR LIQUID DIET Water, ice chips, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles sticks, diet cranberry juice, diet Snapple, Diet Vitamin Water, Diet Gatorade-G2, decaf tea, broth based soup ( chicken, vegetables, beef ). I've been following this diet because it doesn't seem hard, yes at some points i wanted to eat some rice and that tasty food im used to. Shoot the spanish ladies in church that always be cooking, we had like two birthday celebrations in church, was proud of myself for not eating the food. Only one day during first early week I ate half a slice of pizza and I didn't even finish it. because i don't really like pizza that much. I tried my very best to stay in the diet especially because I read and saw allot of videos that said that while in liquid diet if i eat carbs my liver will get big again and all the hard work was for nothing. So yeah that was my fear so sugar free popsicles sticks sure to not eat any carbs. just like how i doing during my 6 Month weigh in's. Ill give you my stats: Beginning weigh in for VSG was: 285 lb ..... (my highest weight before tis was 290 lb) height: 5,6' BMI: 46.0 I was cutting carbs such as bread, rice, pasta, and would not eat snacks like i used to. I would get a small snack once a week and like every 2-3 weeks would have some type pf carb. shot i was really proud of myself in thanksgiving during 6 month weight lose. only carb i ate that day and not a lot, it was my moms baked tomato 5 cheese pasta. Anyway ill right how many pounds i lost every month until final weigh in. SEP: 285 Nov: 280 Dec: 276 Jan: 272 Feb: 269 Mar: 264.6 My period was never normal and sometimes it would come and sometimes it wouldn't, didn't know what time of the month it would decide to come. Usually only knew i had my period when I got some spotting. During this weight loss journey, I realized that my body get swollen when i have my period shockingly up to 10lb . Man sometimes during 6 month weight lose i had to visit my primary doctor and thats when i found out this would happen to my body. because one month when i got went for the mandatory weight in i did good and lost the weight i had to. then that following next week i was on my period. I felt heavier and tired. so when i went to primary they told me a gained nearly 10lb i was shocked and really scared because i herd that if you gain weight during this process then they cancel your process and you don't get surgery. Didn't even change my diet, so like i said felt like i nearly had a heart attack when they told e that. During this 6 month weight lose my period seems to start getting stable, two months out of the six my period acted abnormal. As in i started realized that i would get period during middle end of the month. one time it come during last of the month and into the beginning of month. Before this sometimes that would happen to me. that i why i was always so nervous and scared to get my weight in at the bariatric hospital where i would go. Now in this two week liquid diet like i said I've been following it .... but man they got us running everywhere to get the clearance before surgery, so another reason i couldn't have final normal meal like how some people call it. because i had to go to primary and they always weigh you first, and i didn't want to risk them canceling on me for after they said i was approved. Im here hella nervous not really about surgery itself because i know i did what i had to do for the pre-surgery diet. i had to go to my primary for the pre- surgery clearance exams. i had to pee in some cup. i told them i got my period so they said when my period finished i as able to take test that was going to be nearly during begging of week two before surgery. Man i was so nervous because i had to get everything done, in a short amount of time. So i decided to tell them my period finished because it was still in spotting phase for a week. So thankfully no blood was in pee sample and they was able to get result of that test. I kid you not two days later y period came in like it usually does. heavy-medium. Thank God i decided to do that pee test when i had spotting period, because so far im still on my period. Man when i got my regular period i immediately went to weigh myself and i was scared cause i went from 264.6 to 270. i was scared yet again because my surgery is around the corner. Man you don't know how serious i was with the two week liquid diet so that i can loose the weigh. So far today i weigh in at 263lb. this is nice but in my mind not good enough because from my last weight in, im still with my period and swollen and so nervous and scared that they are going to cancel my surgery because of my weight. they probably going to be like oh you didn't loose weight so you didn't do the diet ... BAM no surgery. I really hope this period ends before surgery and my weight goes down, because this would happen to me. like i said im not worried about my liver not shrinking because i did the diet and cut the carbs like i said and sugars so that my liver could shrink. My aunt is also getting surgery same day and i was the one constantly telling her what she was able to eat and what she wasn't and why. The lady who called form hospital said that if i still have my period that they will give me a special pad/underwear to wear. Oh and i got the clearance for cardiologist two days ago. and he gave me blood pressure pills he said a small dosage just to be safe. I was really stressed during these two weeks before my up coming surgery also running like a chicken with no head trying to get all test done and get clearance. Because my coordinator forgot to give me the paper that primary had to fill for the clearance before surgery. Also my primary doctor only goes to my clinic on MON,TH,FRI. and cardiologist on Mon and the other guy to scans your heart comes in on Friday. So that was all during these two weeks before surgery. I pray that am able to get this surgery . Has anyone had a type of similar problem like mine. if so i would love to read about it. Also will keep you guys updated on the statues of my surgery on April 8. Who ever read this thanks for reading i know its long.
  8. Thank you!!! So helpful. My surgery is scheduled for 5/1/19.
  9. Good for you who in Mexico?. I'm researching Tijuana Bariatric Center with Dr Garcia. I was scheduled for this week. Then decided to wait and see if I can LOSE the 35# with weight watchers . At the end of April if I haven't lost 10 lb I'm seriously looking into the sleeve again sick of being fat. Good luck Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone get a March date yet?

I had my surgery 3/19 and boy did I get jammed up! Woke up in ICU and had tubes everywhere. I think when you go into this you have to realize that there is always the chance that they have to go in and do it the old fashioned way. That is what happened to me. It has been almost 3 weeks now and I got the feeding tube out yesterday. I am fine though. I have worked my way up to a soft diet and have lost 20 pounds. I can drink fine and take my pills. So I am blessed all around. I did have a crying jag about week 2 wondering why in the hell did I do this at my age, but soon got over it. Of course I don't want to go back to the way I was. Met with physical therapy yesterday and they said it is time for me to start taking nice long walks UGH, guess I need to suck it up and get on with the program! Best of Luck to you.

    March 27th surgery date

Tereza- the dietitian for my programs says salads are fine after about 3 months post op. Like briswife15 said just make it with high protein foods. As for me I’m officially 1 week after surgery and if it was for the achy soreness in my abdomen I wouldn’t even believe I had surgery. I have lost 10 pounds so far!
  15. Question???? Is it really a bad idea to have salads after gastric sleeve? Pre surgery you would have to pay me to eat a salad. 10 days post surgery all I can think about is the different types of salads I wish I can eat. My nutritionist said it’s not advised because it lacks needed protein etc. please let me know your experience with salads post surgery.

    One day until Surgery jitters

Surgery went well. Recovery has been seemingly slow and steady. I’m in a good place today (10 days post op). Thanks for asking
  18. Just looking to connect with other sleevers starting out around the same time and to learn from those who have been through the process and maintaining their weight loss.
  19. ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY UPDATE: Wow. What a year. Bad news, good news. Bad news: I'm 3 lbs away from my goal weight. Bad news part II: It's clear that my goal weight was set to high. I need to lose at least another 10-20lbs. ack!!! Good news: Wouldn't change my decision to have SIPS in a million years. Yes, there are occasional "bathroom issues", but so worth it compared to my life beforehand. Bottom line for anyone still sitting on the fence: Unlike band and sleeve, SIPS works! And let me tell you why. I still have zero willpower, which is why I got fat in the first place and why after one year I have yet to reach my goal weight (although very very close). BUT. ... DS\SIPS gives me breathing room. If I wanna loose weight, I still gotta work for it. No free pass,. I have to eat healthy, and no over indulge. BUT.... When I'm can't take dieting any longer... I'm done with that **** and just want to eat pizza and wings and other yummy food....there are no consequences?!?!. I don't lose weight during these periods, BUT I DON'T GAIN THE WEIGHT BACK during these periods either. That has made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world!!!! Let's face it. I doubt there's a single person on this board that hasn't been able to string a diet together for a week, or two or six, only to finally give it up. And then see ALL the weight they worked so hard to lose come back... within days!!! ... or worse, and all too common, come back 3-10 lbs heavier than when they started the diet in the first place?!? Well, kiss those days goodbye. My weight loss is on me. But it's always a loss. never a re-gain. Wow! what a difference! For any of you out there contemplating DS\SIPS vs some other "less invasive" procedure - i.e. Sleeve - stop f**king around! This is the the solution. Go big or go home.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Bout to go into work for a 10 hr shift where all hell will be breaking loose. Took MANY deep breaths. 🤣🤣
  21. Thank you. I'm really starting to think in favor of the sleeve. Even with only 35 # to LOSE, the weight is just not coming off. I'm giving it the month if April to LOSE 10 lb on weight watchers. If that doesn't happen, I will make my decision. Sick of weighing 200 . Sleeves Any regrets????why and why not????

I was sleeved 12/20/18 and I think the only regret (and I wouldn't really even call it a regret it's more of my mental relationship with food) was not being able to eat a lot of the foods I use to be able to. But that's my unhealthy relationship with foods and I only had that feeling shortly after I was sleeved and I haven't had it since. My mom also sleeved but hers was 11/19/18 and her and I have shared recipes back and forth to try and finding healthy good foods has helped a TON.

Second Week Post Op Gas Issues

Yeah that isn’t working for me at all I’m off for the next 2 weeks I pound out walking everyday since surgery on 3/27/19. Hr after surgery 10 laps around the hospital before leaving the next day and pounding out walking around mall and grocery stores it ain’t working I guess I just have to keep at it but it is very annoying especially when your doing what your supposed to be doing. These phase needs to hurry up and get over with. I got so tired from walking I almost fell out with no energy

Second Week Post Op Gas Issues

I was the same way the first month or two. Lots of gas and acid reflex. I did try gas-x which helped some. It should get better as you progress. I had my surgery 1/15/19 and I’m currently feeling great. Gas has gone way down and the reflux did too. In my opinion, the first 8 weeks sucked but now I’m so happy I did the surgery.
