  2. Im getting ready for revision 2 im a band to a sleeve now going bypass the gerd is unbearable even with 3 medications ive5been dilated 7 times didn't help
  3. I'm a little over 2 months post-op (VSG to RNY revision) and am averaging 676 calories a day. I am on the fence whether to up it or ride the honeymoon wave. I asked my surgeon on my first post-op appointment, and he said to stay around this calorie range to lose more weight, that's about all the information I got.

    Band removal after 10 years

There's a TON of people on the site who are revisions from band to sleeve or RNY. Give it a quick search. I believe Even the site's creator is making the switch. They all appear to be MUCH HAPPIER. safe journey VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 167
  5. I'm a recent Band to RNY. My revision was performed on the 21st of March. Very happy with the change! No real advice, you've been through the surgery before, so this time around it's really not any different, they used the same incision points for my revision, so no new scars, recovery wasn't much different than it was with the band as far as pain and mobility. Surgery was longer, and recovery in hospital was a few extra days, but all in all, it wasn't different enough from the band installation in many regards. If you've got any specific questions, please make sure to hit the quote button so I get alerted to your reply, or you can send me a private message and we can chat there. Congrats and good luck!

    Can you see/feel your port?

I can feel mine, cant see it. I've heard of people who have hit their goal and the port sticks out alot. I've heard of people getting port revisions because of this.

    Newbie

I was a revision from the lap-band, so the questions I had would probably be different from yours. Dr. Barker was very good with explaining exactly what the surgery was once I started telling him I didn't like the band (gave it a good 3.5 yrs). I know Dr. Kim and Dr. Davidson have great reviews from others on this site for other DFW area docs. One doc I can tell you to steer clear of though is Dr. Glenn Ihde. New to WLS and very dishonest. You'll want to know how long the doc thinks your post-op recovery will take, how often you should get labs taken to check that you're getting all the nutrients you need, if they have a support group (if you think you'd need it - Dr. Barker has one I know), what their schedule is regarding your post-op diet (how long on Clear Liquids, mushies, etc.), what his complication rate is, how many sleeves has he done, stuff like that. Good luck on finding the right doc for you!
  10. Sounds good. As I may be revising to sleeve, I'll be following your reports. My fate has yet to be determined, as I'll be reacquainting myself with my surgeon, NP and the gang. It's been a while, not a good one. I was banded twice four days apart at age 61. You're the only other person I've come across who had a similar experience, but moreso. If my second surgery had been problematic, I don't know that I would have gone for a third. My med plan required an overnight stay which worked in my favor. For the rest of the day after surgery #1 (10cc band), I was able to sip Water easily. Went for esophagram the following morning; the barium came right up. After that, not even the smallest sips of water would stay down. My surgeon thought that there may have been much fat on the side of the liver not visible during surgery or that I may have had swelling at the band site (or both, I suppose). I was put on IV for hydration and we decided to wait a few days to see if any internal swelling would go down. My initial feeling was, "Get this damned thing out of me and let me go home." Then I switched to, "After all this there is no way in hell that I'm leaving here without a band." Still unable to tolerate sips, we went back to surgery on day #4 (14cc band). All was well thereafter; went home the following day. I love my surgeon and never found fault with her. She truly felt bad for my experience and was supportive all the way. To make a long story longer, I did wonderfully well the first 15 months and then went downhill, an incident started me on regaining much of what I'd lost. On two occasions my band was loosened due to dilation and I'm sure I'm dilated again. Hence, my expectation that revision is on the horizon (the NP suggested I see the surgeon to discuss this quite a while ago). I don't want to walk away from the whole thing. I want to see through what I started way back. Your big smile is visible in your message. Keep going.
  11. Can I ask why you are doing a revision from sleeve to bypass? I will be getting the bypass, but my sister just had the sleeve. How did the sleeve fail you?

  13. I have seen a few people post about significant regains on the Obesityhelp Revision Forum. I have also seen some posted on an Aussie sleeve forum where they have been doing vertical sleeves longer than in the U.S. A few of the ladies had significant regains after pregnancies which we all know could happen because pregnancy can obviously make people gain weight (although I know one lady who is about to have her 2nd post op baby and has remained slim throughout!!). Some of the people had simply not lost enough weight to get out of the obese or morbidly obese BMI range. And yes, some people had gone back to eating crap and gained weight back. Unfortunately it can happen with any surgery if you revert back to snacking on high carb foods especially like cookies or ice cream on a very regular basis. A couple of people experienced regains after going on a medication for an illness that causes weight gain. A few of them had been sleeved back when the stomachs were made quite a bit bigger than they are now and didn't remove all of the fundus like most surgeons do now. We always have to remain forever vigilant and learn the good habits after surgery. Not eating and drinking at the same time---protein first--things like that are big rules for a reason. Good luck everybody!

Yes, I'm tricare south but they approved for band removal/ RNY revision due to major complications... I think it's all about what the doctors write in the letter....

    Calories and being discouraged

So you have the ''breakfast food'' plus 2 Premier shakes a day? Seems to me like a lot of calories. Double check with your surgeon's recommendation, 1,800 cal a day is a fairly large amount at this point. If you have a nutritionist, you could revise with her.
  16. I had a revision on December 28,2015.It is the best decision. No more vomiting, gerd, weight gain, slippage, port site pain or protrusion etc.My RNY is great.Keep in mind the weight loss is slower with revisions but I feel great. My cravings for sweets are gone and I have never dumped.I feel so much better.Just went for my 3 month blood test this past week. Will keep you guys posted... I feel great!!!
  17. Hi ... As many are stating here they have been banded for a while and now switching over . I was banded 11/2009 , lost weight initially and nothing now , actually gaining and fast . I'll admit I'm not working out and need to . Regardless , I'm calling on Monday to make my appointment with a new surgeon to discuss lap and revision to bypass . Can someone tell me if you have to go through all of the pre req appointments again like before banding ? Also, what has been the general turn around time from initial appointment to surgery time for everyone ? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  18. I'm having revision from band to bypass on Monday. I only had to have 3 nutrionist appointments, and a pulmonologist appointment. I didn't have to the psyche consult again. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

    I Want A Pop

Seven years ago when I was banded, I was the biggest diet pepsi holic in the world. Hubby is sure the pepsi stock went down when I quit drinking it. I was a two fister, had my son bring me two one for now and one to be at the ready when the first one was done. Gave it up and never went back. Even without restriction in my band I just don't do it, And now that I am going to be revised from band to RNY I am glad that is something I have already conquered. Crystal light is my go to. because I just can't drink plain water, it strangles me, so I drink 2 qrts of crystal light a day at least,
  20. Best wishes, my mother was absolutely against my revision. But, she knew me well enough to know that her "disapproval" was not going to keep me from doing it. Be prepared to give her solid medical info on the sleeve, give her some of the research information you've looked up. If you need links, there posted around here in several places. I can't speak on the Mexico part as I had my surgery here in Florida. I know my husband is absolutely against me traveling to Mexico for my plastics. I'll just wait until he's deployed again to get my boobs. Not really, in all seriousness, I'll stay local for the boob job as well. Good luck and just don't let anyone keep you from doing the very best for your future health.

    Here's My Story....

I was a band to sleeve revision in one surgery and had no problems. I did not have success with the band at all, but am finding it with the sleeve. I agree with OTR in getting a revision. I think most of us have been able to lose weight, it's the keeping it off that has been the true challenge. Good luck with your decision.
  22. I've been unfilled for 6 weeks and will be doing the revision in one surgery on Sept 7th. At that time I'll have been unfilled for 3 months - my doc right now just wants me to be as gentle as possible so that my stomach tissue is not stretched or inflamed when he gets in there. Small meals, no vomiting, etc. I've gained 25 lbs in the last 6 weeks ..... grrrrrr
  23. Mine was done in one op and having two separate ones was never discussed or considered. Only thing my surgeon said was that if he found he couldn't perform the revision he would just remove my band. I had mine done as open surgery though as I had a lot of scarring from a previous big abdominal hernia op a year earlier. My band had been empty for quite a while beforehand as it had slipped a lot so that wasn't an issue and I did have to follow another pre-op diet. My surgeon informed me of the risks and possible complications concerning revision and assured me he would do he best he could for me. I was happy with that and left myself in his hands as I trusted him implicitly.
  24. I'm vertically challenged at 5'1 so my original goal weight was 110 pounds, which would have placed me at a very normal BMI of 20 and into single-digit clothing sizes. At three months post-op I adjusted my goal upward to 130. The weight was coming off at a painfully slow rate of about 5 to 6 pounds monthly, so I thought I'd never make it to my original goal. I reached my revised goal of 130 pounds at 14 months out. My surgery day weight was 218, so I decided to lose a nicely even 100 pounds by getting to a body weight of 118. 118 pounds was my new goal. It took another 4 months to lose the additional 12 pounds to get to 118. I've been maintaining this body weight without a great deal of effort while eating in the ballpark of 2000 calories daily. This is the first time in my adult life I've been weight-stable. I wear a size 4 and enjoy life as a normal-weight person.

    Stall finally broke!!

8/8/17 was my surgery (I’m a revision band to SIPS) but was at my hw of 242 at my first revision consultation. For my band back in 2010 my hw was 239 so I was even heavier for my revision [emoji22][emoji25] I was 226 on my surgery date though (8/8)
