  1. I had my revision from band to sleeve last Thursday, March 3rd and have an appointment to remove the drain on Wednesday. My biggest pain, so far, was the gas in my chest and neck Thursday night and Friday. I am having trouble sitting completely upright, due to incisions on my belly roll and the pressure from it. Now bending and twisting is not advised or recommended as I have already tried with poor results. I plan on returning to work, Monday the 14th and will be light duty for up to 6 weeks. My wife says no tractor riding or fishing until Dr approves it. I think I am going to bribe him!! Wish each of you the best with your surgery and speedy recovery to get back to whatever you enjoy!!
  2. I had my revision from band to sleeve and gall bladder removal last Thursday and have had a few days to dabble with deep self-thoughts. I am on a liquid only diet. If it can pass through a straw, it is food. As I look past the nutty buddies and shortbread girl scout Cookies to the canned food section of the pantry is my section. Broths, chicken noodle with a strainer and cream Soups. OK, cream soups, looks like pudding and the potatoes look like soupy potatoes and I stepped on a mushroom and it looked kind of creamy. Now to my question, I only took pain meds for 2 nights and that was a couple days ago and they gave me the craziest, most vivid dreams, maybe a later pondering,, I'm back, Where is the creamy part of the Chicken?? I have lived in the country most all of my life and have seen chicken cooked, killed and mutilated by many varmints and processes and never came up with cream chicken. The only creamy stuff from a chicken was on the floor of the chicken house and it's not the same color. I am now struggling with creamy chicken Soup for sustenance, as it will not swallow well unless it is watered down to broth. I am guessing it is really fat of chicken soup and that doesn't sound good or healthy and why is it yellow, since chicken meat is white? So, whipped egg of chicken soup with morsels of chicken added?? This may not be one of life's great mysteries but it has given me a few hours of serious thought and hope it stirs others to think!! Hope everyone has a great day!!

    BMI 31-32

Alindsey, I totally understand. I'm 5'5 and 250, BMI of 41, which barely qualifies me, I'm seeing the surgeon on Thursday. Also, I'm a band to sleeve revision.... Totally regret not having the sleeve, I realize I am not in control and if I don't get help with the sleeve, then I'm not sure what I'll do. Hopefully I won't need to make other plans and I can focus on getting healthy with the sleeve Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

If I had it to do over & the single-anastomosis duodenal switch had been available when I had my sleeve in 2013, I hope I would have done that rather than the sleeve. The amount of malabsorption with the classic DS scared me then & still does. I did lose close to 100 pounds after the sleeve & then a panniculectomy but regained about 20 pounds. I had a revision of the sleeve & then the SA-DS on December 29, 2015, & am now down 115 pounds from my pre-sleeve starting weight. I’d like to get down to the goal weight I have on my ticker, 155, because that would put me in the “normal” BMI range. But I’d be thrilled to get down to 163 which was my lowest adult weight about 43 years ago. With this SA-DS, I just might make it!

    Common channel

I had a sleeve to single-anastomosis duodenal switch revision with a 300 cm common channel. I didn't have a DS or gastric bypass initially because the amount of malabsorption with a 100-150 cm common channel scares me. If this SA-DS had been around 3 years ago I might have gone for it.
  7. I was sleeved on December 28, 2015 so I about 10-11 weeks out from my surgery. Other than my initial difficulty swallowing in the first few days, I did fine until about 4 weeks out, then the indigestion started. It starts mid-late morning and goes all day. It may subside a little before bed but often it's still there at bedtime. I wake up without it. I have tried prilosec and am now taking nexium (40mg twice daily) without much relief. I am taking carafate as well with marginal improvement. I start reglan on Thursday with the hope that this will help but I am starting to really get discouraged. I've had a barium swallow test, an endoscopy and I've been tested for H.pylori but still no explanation for why I feel so awful. (There was some foam in my stomach but it's not the "foamies" I have heard about here.) If the reglan fails, I am likely facing a revision.. something I am NOT thrilled about. I am so tired feeling nauseous and sick. Prior to my surgery, I have probably taken about 20 tums in my entire lifetime. I didn't even gt heartburn when I was pregnant. Now, Tums are like my favorite food and it doesn't even really help. Internally, my stomach almost feels "hot" and the feeling right up to my throat almost feels like cooling peppermint or something. It's an odd feeling. It's great to lose the weight but not when I feel so lousy. :/ Has anyone experienced this? I've seen people saying they felt this way a few days after surgery but not in this time frame. I guess I am wondering what happens next. Sorry I am whining but I feel terrible and while I don't regret the surgery, I keep thinking I should have had a bypass. Ugh.
  8. I am at 46 lbs at 3.5 months since revision. I was told I am just barely under the average. My nutritionist said I should be at 64lbs lost at 6 months. She did say to expect a slower loss than someone who just had the bypass alone. No regrets this has been a fairly easy process so far.
  9. Have you already had your band removed, or are they doing the removal and revision at the same time? I am having my band removed and sleeve revision in one surgery (that's the plan anyway!) Aiming for the end of July! Good luck!! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App I had my band removed in 2013! I had a terrible slip and was very very sick! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I got mine in October 2008. I also had a slippage in August 2013 and had it repaired. Should have had the revision done then. Grrrrr!! 12. just do the six months i was denied. i had the band put in in 2006 it was a breeze my bmi was lower than 40 i had no comorbities ( ithink he used my lower back problems) so moving forward to now 10 years later i need to get a revision to sleeve. i pretty much argued with my coordinator when she said i have to do six months nutrition visits. i would not accept my insurance requirements had changed so they submitted it with out that and i was denied this was in february. i had a tentative date for surgery March 1 soooo today was my clearance i got my psyche eval done chest xray ekg blood work and Yes i have six nutrition visits. they used three that i had before i even came in to discuss a revision (i was still getting fills and unfills fills unfills) and three since january when i actually did go in to discuss revision. so my date is now April 5 they should be sending it to insurance again hopefully by tomorrow or wednesday as i made my PC that did my clearance /ekg fax it to them before i left the office... So try using the visits that you already had along with what you have to date and see if that works. you wanted to hear good or bad and this was bad im even thinking about going to Mexico if i dont get approval. i also put a call in to LINDSTROM OBESITY ADVOCATES and got a free consult when Kelley Called me back. Basically they are a lawfirm experienced in getting a denial reversed. the phone number 1-619-656-5251. Check out their website out too.. i too have bcbs empire UNH good luck keep us posted..

    Scheduled and ready to go!

When I had the lap band done, the doc told me I didn't get a catheter, but, who knows, once you've gone under they can do what they want. When I had my band to sleeve revision they did put in a catheter, but, was done when I was under. I didn't have any after affects that I can recall.
  14. Ok, here goes. I am generally an extremely private individual, who normally doesn't like to share my personal business broadly, but when it comes to WLS, I just need to be able to talk to other people who are going through the same thing. I am most definitely NOT a group therapy/support kind of guy (the thought mortifies me). Thankfully, this site allows me to hear from other people, in an environment that is safe and comfortable for me. I have been lurking here on almost a daily basis for the last four weeks, and finally created an account. I have a feeling this may end up being a long post, so I appreciate you hearing me out. First, my story. Like many, I have been overweight for most of my life. I have yo-yo dieted almost continually. I consider myself a semi-professional at losing weight, but am a complete failure at keeping it off (again, I know that is typical). I have high blood pressure and I need 3 of my joints replaced (two knees and my left hip), which causes me a significant amount of constant pain. However, given my age (42) and my weight, no surgeon wants to operate on me given the risk of complications and needed revisions. I have finally come to the realization that I need help. I will never beat this on my own. I went to see Dr. Weiner on 2/9, and things have progressed VERY quickly since then. I weighed in at 333, and was asked to try and lose 25 pounds prior to surgery, beginning with his Pound of Cure diet, followed by a Protein shake and green veggie only diet for the 2-weeks pre-op. Then came the Psych eval, Surgical Clearance/Letter of Medical Necessity from my PCP, and an endoscopy. All went well. Given my BMI was over 50, BCBS of MI automatically covers with no formal approvals needed (lucky, I know). I have done very well on my diet, losing 30 pounds in ~4 weeks. I started my liquid diet today (this is going to be a heck of a ride), and am scheduled for surgery on March 21st (2 weeks from today). I'm really nervous. I know I need this, and I know it will provide me the help I need to finally (FINALLY!) get to a healthy weight that will allow me to correct my joint issues, but also enhance my overall health, and allow me to do the activities with my kids that I have often not been able to do. Not to mention, hopefully be around for them for a much longer time. But I'm nervous about the surgery itself, the pain post-surgery (I am a completely wimp with an incredibly low pain tolerance), possible complications, and dumping (really, really worried about dumping). And finally, I am worried about regain. I know I can be committed to a plan, as I always am. Until I'm not anymore. I am hoping more than anything that this tool gives me the help I need to not fall off the wagon, but having a 0% success rate for 30 years makes me severely doubt myself in the long run. Anyway, thanks for reading. I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, but I just needed to get this off my chest. My family is very supportive, but I try not to talk too much about my diet/surgery, because I don't want to be "that guy", I don't want them to get sick of hearing about it before I've even had the surgery. And, of course, they can't truly relate. My children are at very healthy weights, and while my wife is also obese, not nearly to the extent that I am. She has also never seriously dieted in her life, let alone considered surgery. Thank again for reading, and thanks for all of the incredible information I've gained from this site over the last month.

    MARCH SLEEVERS?

I know exactly how you feel. Once the dr unfilled my band that was giving me so many problems I gained 25lbs before I got sleeved. But that just showed me that I really do need this tool to help keep me on track. My revision was on the 2nd and I couldn't be happier. It's a struggle but we can get over this hump. You can do it! Good luck and keep us updated on your journey. We all understand this struggle. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    MARCH SLEEVERS?

I am getting a revision from a recently failed Lab Band. It cant come soon enough for me. I feel like I am on a downward spiral..I've already gained 20 lbs.
  17. Gina, you need to get a dr to perform and EGD. I had the same issues and had 8 EGDS done one the first 2 years post op to learn After switching dr's for the last one that I had scar tissue that needed to be removed after that I was able to keep food down due to him "cleaning up that mess". Then bad news followed over the next 3 years I started to gain weight, developed a n ulcer and now a hiatal hernia in my new pouch. I am 6 years post op and getting ready to undergo a revision to remove the ulcer. This is something that you should now ignore. Please talk to your dr asap and if nothing else get a second opinion.
  18. Hello, Has anyone had success with United Health Care getting approved for a revision ? I am in the early stages of the process. Any stories you share with me ?

    MARCH SLEEVERS?

My surgery was on Wednesday the 2nd. I had a revision from band to sleeve. I woke up in some pain but the anesthesiologist gave me a block in one of my nerves in my tummy and that was great. I had a revision from a band so I think that's where a lot of my pain came from, having to remove the port, band and scar tissue. I slept a lot day 1, first night would have been ok if the nurses didn't keep coming into the room. I got up and walked every couple of hours because the gas pains were pretty bad, it feels like someone sitting on your chest and back, very uncomfortable. I don't even really feel like I was in too much pain, maybe a 4/5, it was mostly discomfort. I didn't get nauseous until I was about to leave the hospital, I did throw up a tiny bit of mucus but I felt better after I got some meds for the nausea. My rid home sucked because there were a bunch of bumps but once I was laying on the couch I felt better. Picked up some chicken Soup from a local Mexican restaurant and strained it so could get something in me besides water and ice. It was delicious! I slept on on night 2, I have an adjustable bed so I slept at an angle with pillows all around me. I was scared I was going to roll over onto my tummy. Days 3 and 4 were good, minimal pain, got up and shower and that felt good. My diaphragm was definitely swollen pretty bad, still is a little bloated. Last night was a little rough for me, I didn't sleep good and I woke up in some pain, I might have pushed it too much yesterday. Today has been ok, took another shower and got really tired. I wanted to go back to work tomorrow but I think I'm just going to work from home, my drive it pretty far and I don't think I'm ready for that. It has been hard getting in liquids, today I've had a Protein drink, water, chicken noodle soup broth, and a Popsicle. I need to get out of the house so I'm going to go to the store for my full liquid diet this evening. Good luck!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

I had the bypass done for several reasons. The biggest one was for the diabetes. Bypass is the only surgical procedure that can be considered a cure for diabetes versus a control. Secondly the acid reflux which was a huge problem for me and it's now gone. Third it has a better long term success rate than the sleeve. There were many people in my classes getting revisions on their sleeves which kind of turned me off. Good luck which ever way you go!

    Bypass vs. Sleeve

Thanks @djmohr. I just think it is confusing when things are blended. I Googled this to confirm my understanding. DS and bypass are NOT the same procedure. There are other differences but what is left of the stomach is one of the keys. Call it a pro, call it a con, either way bypass is normally done by stapling off part of the stomach where the DS stage 1 is essentially a larger sleeve. It is understandable that people feel passionate for their own choice, but truthfully most of us only have knowledge of our own surgeries. Our emotional state and feelings about it tend to depend on our results. We notice what we want to . The bypass person notices that many people are revising to bypass, since it is inevitable, why not start there? Incredulously, in years past many new sleevers would announce that everyone with bypass regains but that won't happen since the hunger hormones are gone. It is alot of generalization going on here. Most of us know bypass patients who have regained, heck I have known 1 that died. ... but that is because over the decades there have been way more bypass patients! Same as not all sleeves need to revise...there are many who are doing fine over the longer haul. I have an aqaintance that I was shocked to find had bypass 8-10 years ago as she eats full restaurant meals and is quite overweight. Clearly, regain is possible with either. I still say they are both good procedbures - be educated on the pros and cons as well as relative risks of side effects and make the decision as to what feels right to you. I am happy with sleeve, if I hadn't gotten to goal I would have probably gone for DS. If i have regain I can't manage down the road, I will see what makes the most sense at the time. I am 4 years post sleeve and doing great so far. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using the BariatricPal App
  23. What I have learned on these boards is that RNY is "the cure" surgery for reflux. I think you make a strong case for RNY especially since you can't afford a revision.

    Pulmonary Embolism

Thank u for the info it's always something added to my list of questions. What was the name of ur doctor in Mexico. My girlfriend texted me last night her docs name dr. Kellys in tijuana he did her lapband about 8 years ago when her insurance wouldn't pay she lives in California she drove herself right over the boarder for less than 5000. And she said it was the best experience in her life. And she never went back for a fill she recently found a doc in cali that would unfill her a little dr. Kellys apparently put a little fill in. Because she has lost all the weight she wanted and was still losing and I told her to find a doc to unfill a little. She is pleased. I just want some info in case my insurance denies me. I need a revision from my band to sleeve. Thanks again.. And congratulations on your weightloss
  25. @@UsernameTaken, I am over a year post-op from revision surgery and overall it has been a good experience. I have not experienced slow weight loss but I think that's a relative term. I have lost about 135 pounds since having surgery the end of 2014 and just stopped losing earlier in February hopefully to maintain where I am. (I wanted to stop losing). I don't regret the decision even though some days have been difficult. I'm not missing the band at all and RNY is much better. I hope the best for you.
