I am not familiar with Kentucky's Medicaid but most I've heard of have a 6 month. That said I just learned recently, were I had to fall back on Ohio, Medicaid instead of my primary Medicare it would be 3 months. My son is on Caresource. Were he seeking bariatric surgery which at this point he's not, they mandate a 9 month track, a different period of time yet.[emoji25] And we're we in Canada or the UK, 2 places with universal health care, the times usually, are a lot longer. That's why many Canadians out of frustration, go to Mexico and the UK goes to Europe because its faster.[emoji7] Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

BCBSM Pre-Op Appointments not covered..
Jerseygirl4523 replied to genia_deanne's topic in Insurance & Financing
Soooo I have Anthem BCBS and their policy is similar. They do not cover diet or exercise programs. However, when the Bariatric center I am using billed my insurance for my nutritionist appointment, it was completely covered. These places know what they are doing. I was also able to use my primary for my 6 month requirement which is always covered as a normal office visit. They just need to make notes that you discussed surgery, diet and exercise and weight loss. -
I had to have a sleep study because both my parents have sleep apnea and my doctor wants to make sure that if I do have it, it’s controlled bore surgery. I got my results Friday and it was completely normal. There’s other comorbidities that may apply. If they have find GERD during your endoscopy (like me), or something in your blood work comes back abnormal, high blood pressure, gallstones, the list goes on. Bariatric centers can help you find a comorbidity.

Five days is better than no days. Stay on target for the time you have left. Goodbye meals are a myth. You will be able to eat these foods again, just in small portions and hopefully with less desire some months from now. If you were on a preop six month diet that you followed fairly well and lost some weight you will probably be alright. A lot of this depends on if if you carry weight in your abdomen or hips and thighs to begin with. If you watch a bariatric operation, you can see the liver hanging down and see why it would be an issue if it was too large. Stay on task the time you have left. There have been people that have been cancelled, although it seems rare why risk it?

My panni was just denied by insurance. I have a *** and needed to get a reference from my GP to see the plastic surgeon then approval from my GPs medical referral bc the doctor my Bariatric surgeon recommended was not in their office (eyeroll). I have lost 105ish lbs and I need one! I’m wondering a few things and hoping you all can help me figure this out. First I’m wondering if I got denied bc the surgeon I went to was not out of my GPs office? They had one to give me but when I researched him he was a hand doctor who did plastic surgery also. Secondly I’m wondering if the plastic surgeon I went to was ridiculously expensive and that’s why it was denied. Tummy tuck was 12,500 and breast lift was 12,000. I know only the panni part is covered but this surgeon does both for same price. Thirdly and most importantly I’m wondering what my rights are to appeal something like this. I plan to call in the morning but wanted to get my ducks in a row and have a clue what I was going to ask them at the insurance company. Mexico Tips and Thoughts (Bariatric Mexico)
HP62442 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had surgery with Dr. Verboonen at Bariatric Mexico earlier this month and thought I would share some thoughts and tips about having surgery in Mexico. I haven't had any complications (knock on wood), and am doing well. While I don't regret it, if I had to do it over again I would choose a different surgeon. 1. Ask about their pain management plan. I was off pain meds by my flight home two days after surgery BUT there was terrible pain management the first 36 hours or so. I woke up in serious pain. I told them I was in pain in the recovery room, and was told it was normal. After that they started ignoring me, and the staff was eating chips in the recovery room. After I started crying, they gave me an injection of something. The first night after surgery I was in so much pain I considered asking them to take me to a hospital. In retrospect, they seemed to rely solely on ketorolac (an NSAID). The language barrier really prevented a discussion of what pain meds I was being given. For me, it was not enough. I don't mean to scare you off from Mexico, but in retrospect I should have been more persistent on learning about their pain management plan. 2. Waiting and never meeting the surgeon. I was picked up at 8:30 and finished all my pre-op labs by 11:30 or so. I then waited 4 or 5 hours to have surgery, which is not really what you want when you are nervous. I was told I would have a full consultation with the surgeon, but I never met him before or after. I also never met with the anestesologist. The other doctors and staff made me feel secure and comfortable, but in retrospect it was nowhere near as advertised. 3. Immediate Aftercare. After the first night, they changed to a different recovery room. I had to walk outside of the building in a hospital gown to get to the new place, only to discover that my bed was in what I can only describe as the lobby. It was right next to the door to the street, and you had to walk through the lobby area to get to the actual rooms for the other patients. When I complained, they did say I could stay at the hotel for the night instead. But since I was traveling alone and they would have to take out the IV (raising my concerns about dehydration), I elected to stay there. 3. "Nutrition" information. I was given a one page sheet of dos and don't. It was rushed and took about five minutes as I was leaving to go to the airport. The surgery went well, which is the most important thing. But I wouldn't say it was comfortable experience. -
New England/Canadian Maritimes?
frust8 replied to frust8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'd like to eat or have you cater a bariatric meal. Some of the combinations you've come up with sound strange at first but the more I read they actually sound tasty. You are the Van Gogh or Leonardo DiVinci of food. And yeah, New England Clam Chowdah, ymmm! I loathe Manhattan , one time I had it NASTY. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app -
My macros were determined by my bariatric program. I use the free app My Fitness Pal to track everything I eat and drink. My bariatric program says we need 60-70g protein, less than 60 carbs, and less than 30g of fat per day. I personally eat only around 30 carbs and 15-20g of fat a day, but always meet my protein. I pick recipes based on where I’m at already for the day—if I’ve had 20g of fat and I’m getting ready to make dinner, I’m not going to choose a recipe with 20g of fat per serving. And I typically only cook recipes that have more protein than carbs per serving. You should have macro goals given to you by your individual program, if not, I’d call and ask! Because id be lost without my number guidelines.

6 Month Insurance Requirement
Jerseygirl4523 replied to Jerseygirl4523's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I finally got access to the patient portal the bariatric clinic uses, outside of mychart, yesterday. It’s where they keep your checklist online. I got nervous because it said “medically supervised diet program (6 consecutive months covering 180 days min.)” I’m know that could be an auto populated choice and not what my individual insurance actually requires. -
Getting closer to the finish line!

Thank you for the tips! And none of it seemed slow for me. I guess I had so many appointments that my mind was occupied. I’ve definitely learned so much. Now to find vitamins that I can tolerate (the Bariatric ones I tried were entirely too sweet) and I can check that off of my list! -
Horrendous Halitosis, Foul flatulence, Fabby Flesh Absent Appetite, Nasty Nausea Sneaky Stalls and Terminal Constipation, Good thing I really WANT this surgery because all that would scare a lesser person.. But my Will is firm, my commitment strong and I'm basically stubborn as a mule. I have heard one can choose friends well you didn't choose me so I must be part of the family, a big world wide Bariatric Family. And we will all be a success! Shoot I should have remembered because I teased you about Dr W being a super star of Bariatrics I would prefer to meet him over your Governor or my Governor (who I knew because I campaigned for him in Columbus when we both were younger) and certainly not President Trump, who my son loathes.[emoji27]🇺🇸 Somebody said something like isn't he from your party? Nope I grew up as a Republican not a Trumperterian, I'd turn Democrat,or even a splinter party first.[emoji26] I am happy and excited your day is coming! Please let me know how everything goes, okay? PS I just watched your you tube, very nicely done.[emoji12] Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes, LOTS of healthy recipes on Pinterest! You can even search Bariatric Recipes and it will give you a lot. I just pinned a bunch of healthy fish recipes as I will be adding fish to my diet next week. I’ve never cooked much fish so I need ideas. An added benefit to Pinterest is a lot of the links take you to blogs where someone has posted the recipe and most of them have comments from people who have tried the recipe and will say if it’s good. Some will also give ideas to modify the recipes to make them even better. Pinterest really is a gold mine!

2 weeks post sleeve and just ate a whole pint of low cal ice cream

I'm almost 2 years out, so not sure if you can have this yet. But, I slice very ripe bananas thin and freeze one per zip top bag, then put them in the food processor and it is delicious, not to mention you can customize in many ways. Other fruit, peanut butter, small amount of nuts, small pieces of very dark chocolate. So much healthier than the store bought stuff. Right now it is so very important to work on your food choices. I highly recommend working with a bariatric nutritionist because there is so much to learn. I am at a place where I am 100% happy with what I eat and I don't count or measure anything. I had to be at a point that was sustainable for me. I do watch portions and I know I will always have to be mindful of my choices, but I have found substitutes and new foods that are absolutely as satisfying as what I ate before. Follow the rules and your tastes will change. I still see my nut almost monthly and have no plans to stop. The very best to you. -
Hi there; My name is Lee. 53 year old female in Charlotte NC. I had the sleeve about 4 years ago. I weighed 250 at 5'4. The lowest I got was 190. Now, i think perhaps menopause is setting in, and I am eating everything in sight! I have not gained much actual weight back, (I am 205), but I am gaining inches. All my clothes are sooooo tight. I am miserable. I am going for a bariatric consult next month. I dont know if the Sleeve can revised (upgraded), or if perhaps I should consider the gastric bypass. ?? Any thoughts in any direction? Much appreciated! Love and Light, Lee

Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery
GirlShrinking replied to GirlShrinking's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m thinking that’s probably why? I’ll know come Monday when they Bariatric office calls me with the results I already got that same day. Before the hernia I have never experienced acid reflux but I was diagnosed with GERD because of past complaints of acid reflux.. but it’s possible that it could be because of the possible issues after the sleeve surgery and hernia repair if done.. maybe he’ll have me repair first? And then continue on with the steps towards the sleeve? He performs his own upper endoscopy procedures and does his own GERD testing in office. it should be interesting to know what’s going to happen come Monday.. I have an endoscopy scheduled on the 3rd of April.. I’m wondering if they’ll push it sooner than later to see if the sleeve is even an option for me. Based off that is probably what will help me decide if I’m even going to another Bariatric doc [emoji991] Instagram: milaalmodovar [emoji317] SC: almodovarmila -
I use Journey Bariatric vitamins and Journey Calcium+ Vit D supplements. My surgeon's office sells them and offers an auto-ship program with free shipping so I just do that instead of trying to guess what I need out of any other store bought/non-bari kind. I'm a simple gal

Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery
GassyGurl replied to GirlShrinking's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is there any chance you misunderstood? It's just so bizarre. For a surgeon to fix a hiatial hernia during vsg or RNY surgery takes less than 5 minutes and a few stitches. I have never heard of a surgeon with your surgeons point of view. On the other hand, most surgeons will not do bariatric surgery if an umbilical or incisional hernia (from a previous surgery) is present. Good luck. Even if I didn't have a hiatial hernia, I would still not use him. Hiatial hernia fixing with bariatrics is mainstream.. Refusal to fix is not. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
