  1. Just looking to connect with other sleevers starting out around the same time and to learn from those who have been through the process and maintaining their weight loss.
  2. ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY UPDATE: Wow. What a year. Bad news, good news. Bad news: I'm 3 lbs away from my goal weight. Bad news part II: It's clear that my goal weight was set to high. I need to lose at least another 10-20lbs. ack!!! Good news: Wouldn't change my decision to have SIPS in a million years. Yes, there are occasional "bathroom issues", but so worth it compared to my life beforehand. Bottom line for anyone still sitting on the fence: Unlike band and sleeve, SIPS works! And let me tell you why. I still have zero willpower, which is why I got fat in the first place and why after one year I have yet to reach my goal weight (although very very close). BUT. ... DS\SIPS gives me breathing room. If I wanna loose weight, I still gotta work for it. No free pass,. I have to eat healthy, and no over indulge. BUT.... When I'm can't take dieting any longer... I'm done with that **** and just want to eat pizza and wings and other yummy food....there are no consequences?!?!. I don't lose weight during these periods, BUT I DON'T GAIN THE WEIGHT BACK during these periods either. That has made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world!!!! Let's face it. I doubt there's a single person on this board that hasn't been able to string a diet together for a week, or two or six, only to finally give it up. And then see ALL the weight they worked so hard to lose come back... within days!!! ... or worse, and all too common, come back 3-10 lbs heavier than when they started the diet in the first place?!? Well, kiss those days goodbye. My weight loss is on me. But it's always a loss. never a re-gain. Wow! what a difference! For any of you out there contemplating DS\SIPS vs some other "less invasive" procedure - i.e. Sleeve - stop f**king around! This is the the solution. Go big or go home.

    ❤ APRIL 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Bout to go into work for a 10 hr shift where all hell will be breaking loose. Took MANY deep breaths. 🤣🤣
  4. Thank you. I'm really starting to think in favor of the sleeve. Even with only 35 # to LOSE, the weight is just not coming off. I'm giving it the month if April to LOSE 10 lb on weight watchers. If that doesn't happen, I will make my decision. Sick of weighing 200 . Appreciate your comments Sent from my SM-J727V using BariatricPal mobile app

Sleeves Any regrets????why and why not????

I was sleeved 12/20/18 and I think the only regret (and I wouldn't really even call it a regret it's more of my mental relationship with food) was not being able to eat a lot of the foods I use to be able to. But that's my unhealthy relationship with foods and I only had that feeling shortly after I was sleeved and I haven't had it since. My mom also sleeved but hers was 11/19/18 and her and I have shared recipes back and forth to try and finding healthy good foods has helped a TON.

Second Week Post Op Gas Issues

Yeah that isn’t working for me at all I’m off for the next 2 weeks I pound out walking everyday since surgery on 3/27/19. Hr after surgery 10 laps around the hospital before leaving the next day and pounding out walking around mall and grocery stores it ain’t working I guess I just have to keep at it but it is very annoying especially when your doing what your supposed to be doing. These phase needs to hurry up and get over with. I got so tired from walking I almost fell out with no energy

Second Week Post Op Gas Issues

I was the same way the first month or two. Lots of gas and acid reflex. I did try gas-x which helped some. It should get better as you progress. I had my surgery 1/15/19 and I’m currently feeling great. Gas has gone way down and the reflux did too. In my opinion, the first 8 weeks sucked but now I’m so happy I did the surgery.

    Post your progress pics!

Congrats to everyone who posted ! This really encourages me to keep pushing! I can't wait until the day I can start posting my pictures. Just got sleeved on 3/25/19 Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I had gastric sleeve done on 3/18/19. I am having a hard time getting in the 60 grams of protein and 64 Oz of water daily. I'm supposed to be on pureed foods. I still have to do liquids a lot though. I'm trying really hard but I can only get so much liquid or food down before my stomach gets upset or I vomit it back up. Is this common right after surgery? Has anyone else had the same problems? Any tip or tricks to meeting my daily requirements? Thank you!!

    April 2019 Surgeries!

Well, as of today I am official POST OP! I had a 10 day liquid diet and lost 12 lbs. Not the best it could have been but not bad. I have impressed about how they don’t wait around waist if time here. I get like I arrived here and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. I got up a little earlier and walked around. I honestly feel fine. A little pain and discomfort at the drain site and mid abdomen but other wise, fine. I haven’t had anything to “eat” in 2 days but I can tell you now I don’t even care. I have no appetite at all. I’m tired after all the traveling and the surgery of course. Honestly the worst part of the whole surgery process was right after surgery while I was in recovery. The nausea and falling in and out of sleep coupled with the normal pain sucked but again...manageable. I am so ready to get home and get my new life started.

Baby Due a Month After Hubby's Surgery Date

I Was back at work and eating purees/feeling pretty good after a month. BUT I was not allowed to lift 10# for 6 weeks after surgery. As someone else did, that won't be a problem for the baby, but he may not be able to lift your other child. And if you have a second C-section, you won't be able to life him/her either. May not be a problem - only you and your hubs know your older kid well enough to know.

    Weight Training After VSG

Hey T.C. I'm eight weeks post-op (gastric bypass) and I've started working out. I'm 65. Have no blood pressure/cholesterol issues-thankfully! My starting weight before surgery was 311. I'm now 270 -in just 8 weeks. I'm super excited about that. What I would suggest since your calorie level is so low is to do a 30-minute walking routine. Once you start with solid food, I would then up the work out to a non-stop work out. To give you some idea, here's what I do. Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Warm-up (that time doesn't count against my total allotted time) When I feel warmed up, I work upper body with a weight that I can handle and I do around 3 to 4 sets of each body part with 12-14 reps per set. As I add weight, I drop my reps by two. So: 14, 12, 10 etc. Right after I've done my sets, I hit a heavy bag for 3 minutes and then immediately go to my upper body routines. No resting. That's the key part. Tuesday, Thursday: I do cardio only...Seven minutes on a treadmill with a pretty steep incline and a higher pace...then hit the heavy bag for another 3 minutes and then go right back to the treadmill. You're probably wondering why I don't work legs. At my age, I have to bum knees and don't want to do too much to aggravate them. Not to mention, four months ago I had a total shoulder replacement and so the weight training works perfectly with my shoulder rehab. I hope that helps!

Aetna and Tests/History Required - Need Your Best Advice

I went through a bunch of old medical files today, and I have records dating back to 2011 showing my weight...basically, I've been in the "obese" category for at least 10 years... My surgeon is Dr Mehta, at Texas Laparoscopic Consultants, and they are in network. I do have questions about all the procedures/tests that need to be done for approval -- does it matter which doctors are used for those? If I already have a psychiatrist / GI doc / etc, can they do the psych eval, EGD, etc, if that's the quickest way to get it done, or do the surgeons generally want you to use someone in their "network"?
  14. I would recommend weighing and logging your food. I did a quick count based on average serving size and what was posted. I calculated about 1600 calories a day. If this what you eat daily and you're working out the same , your body has reached a balance, hence a plateau. You need to either reduce calories or up your exercise. That should throw the body out of its routine and get you going again. Not sure what your exercise routine is the 3 days but maybe include 40-50 minute walk daily, if time is constraint have like 4-5 10 minute walks throughout the day. Good luck.

2.5 years post sleeve and major struggles

Congrats on 4 years out. A fifteen-pound gain is manageable to work back down. Is it realistic for you to lose fifteen pounds by 4/22/19? If you are having mobility issues with your knee, diet will be key to get the weight off. What you should eat? What is your (real food stage) plan they gave you after surgery? Protein, veggies, small amount of fruit, and low carb (carbs plant based and low glycemic) Log your food in MyFitnessPal or baritastic app. Stay within your weight loss calories, Protein 60 to 100 grams and carbs 50 grams. They will make you crave them more and cause hunger Eat dense protein and as much veggies as you like until full. Keep health sweet and salty option foods on hand for cravings

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hi Paula! Today is 6 weeks, one day for me. Your weight loss sounds steady. From my day of surgery (2/20) I have only lost 19 pounds. I started at a low BMI and am happy with my results, thus far. I don’t track my weight by week but thinking I’m losing pretty close to 2 lbs a week... I’m targeting June as when I am expecting to really see a substantial visible difference in my appearance.

    Ready for pureed food stage

Just a word of warning ... I prepped just as you did, had a house full of purees on hand. And I ate about 10% of them. I donated or threw away 90%. You will really be eating very little at this point. I still spent a lot of my day drinking protein shakes, to get the minimum in. That didn't leave a lot of time or stomach room for purees.
  18. If you are keto by virtue of low carb, this is a terrifying report. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/03/190327112657.htm?fbclid=IwAR19M9hlXDfdmnTsc_1h3PhA5uh8104nR-Oy07mmqRM9kWs6xZG0b3mePTw
  19. I need help! I am out 4 years now, went back to the doctor yesterday after 3 years. I too am struggling with my eating habits. Since my last weigh in with him I only gained 1 lb in 3 years, but by my records I am up 15 lbs and don't want to get back where I was. Any suggestions on what I should try eating, he put me on a 50 gram carbs and the rest is protein. I don't see the nut until 04/22/19 right before my knee replacement, so I want to see if I can take off the 15 prior to that.
  20. I'm also having my surgery today and I can drink clear liquids until I get to the hospital at 10:30 then no more drinking once I get there. My surgery is at 12:30. I guess all the liquids are all digested within that 2 hour period so you should be fine. Good luck with your surgery!
  21. NSV to me. I'm back at my ticker weight. 137.2lbs. (thank you poopie and porcelain god) but even more importantly!!! Yesterday was senior day at Goodwill (30% off) and I spent $27.00 and bought my summer shorts wardrobe. And a darling Jones of NY black skirt (short). I think I got like 6 pairs of shorts and a skirt for that. Score! They were all size 8 and size Mediums except for one size 10 and none of them were stretchy fabrics! Wooohoooo. Gosh I (sparkleheart) my tool and my WOL!!! Thanks for inspiring me to continue my IF and my LCHF (low carb healthy fat) diet. (Oh you know I will ho it up with piccys as I get them washed and ironed!) haha!

  23. Just a little thing to try and bolster folk fretting about all the less than ideal things (and the hard to compete with success stories) they read here, especially those who haven’t spent time on lots of similar forums. Research online has been a chunky part of my day job, so although I’m not immune to the negative bias and hype I can pause and process that out. If you only have time to dip your toes in, use your own past experience as benchmark. How often do you post when all is just jogging along nicely and you don’t need advice or support? If you have more time, try ignoring the 4 worst experiences and the 2 best ones in every 10 posts and use a search engine to look for medical advice and evidence for things that mess with your head. Context is king. Everyone starts at a different weight and with a different set of head, body and life complications. So impressed by those who spare time to support all the concerned folk here and share the well deserved celebrations, but for those hovering and worried, this isn’t, in sum total, a real slice of life [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Multivitamins?

My surgeon, recommended Celebrate Calcium 500mg, two a day, Celebrate Multivitamin, two a day, B12, and Biotin for hair. Cannot take more than 500 mg at one time. Should be alternated one vitamin at a time at least two hours apart. I’ve been on my pre-op diet and vitamin regimen since 3/31/19. Good luck!
  25. Hello! I just had a question about eating and drinking before the surgery. My surgery is tomorrow morning 04/04 and my doctor said not to eat or drink anything after 10 pm. It's almost 10 right now and I ate about 4 hours ago and just drank a bottle of water but I feel like my stomach is full. I'm worried there'll still be some food or water in my stomach and intestines when they do the surgery. Is that possible? It just seems unreal that it could really completely empty out by 5 am...
