Dec 2018 surgery updates please
Sophie7713 replied to LasVegasMike's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is wonderful to read all your success stories and the mounting rewards as December 2018 sleevers! Wow. My surgery was 12/17/2018 at NW Medical Center in Coral Springs, FL. I am currently three pounds away from onederland!!! A total of 57 pounds from 258 start weight the first of December. Usually major consecutive holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas thru New Years in the past, meant a weight gain for me. I tried to use restraint, but all the rich, high calorie "specialty foods" of the season just continued the never ending weight battle + cycle resulting in feeling more discouraged and hopeless with each passing year. :[ BUT NOT THIS New Year of 2019! I love my sleeve and so glad to have begun a new, hopeful and promising track! Does anyone else feel the same? Refreshing, right? My blood pressure and blood tests all came back healthy - And, left injured, problematic knee is much improved. Bowels have stabilized and vitamin regime no longer causes nausea. I follow closely Dr. V and my nutritionist's recommendations for balanced nutrition with moderate exercise, at this 3 ½ month juncture. Other aspects I am thrilled about is the ability to be satisfied with so much less volume of food. I really have not missed sugar, salt or fat laden recipes and desserts. While I had made major changes in my diet losing 41 pounds (298 at highest point) before considering surgery last November, the sleeve just simplifies and propels me forward in getting to my healthy weight. I desire to drop another 40 pounds and feel the confidence I can now do so. Not to mention, keeping it off and maintaining a healthy weight via reduced stomach - Breaking the vicious cycle. I have not seen the scale read under 200 pounds in over 23 years! That's a lot of baggage for this petite 5'0" frame and interior designer constantly on her feet. My clothes closet has been purged and taken to a quality consignment shoppe or Goodwill - Now shopping in regular departments for limited clothing in size large for tops and XL for slacks. Most of these sale items are quickly becoming too loose. So happy to no longer see 1X, 2X or 3X (at highest weight) on my clothing labels. Right? Excited for my size 10 and petite medium goal. Really proud of all of us! Let's keep on sharing our victories and "all the nuances" of becoming our best physically and emotionally. None can truly appreciate nor understand this journey we embark... except for us. That makes us a pretty fabulous group of comrades. Happy spring everyone! ;] -
February 2019 weight loss buds
Recidivist replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My big news: When I weighed myself on Friday, I was at 199.6 lbs! I can't even remember the last time I was under 200--even if it's only by .4 pounds! The other news is that we took our first mini-vacation (three days) this weekend, and every meal was in a restaurant. I stayed fully on the program by ordering strategically and then only eating what I could. (In one case I had to order a full meal and eat just a fraction, which is sort of a waste of money.) The downside is that it reminded me that I will never again be able to go to a restaurant and eat like a normal person. I try to keep telling myself that I will probably live 10 to 15 years longer thanks to the surgery, and that makes it all worthwhile. -

Hello everyone! I'm very early in my journey. My surgeon let me know that I am approved for surgery and that I will get a call before Wednesday 4/10 to schedule my surgery for late April/early May. I am super excited and anxious. I would love to connect with people in my area. Just a little background: Height: 5'3" HW: 271 CW: 254 SW goal: 249 Surgeon: Dr Dutta @ Fremont Kaiser I've been on this journey since November 2017. Between now and then, I've struggled with losing my 20lb goal and as you know, life happens. Now, I'm in a better mind set and changed my habits dramatically. When I first started, I was a little frustrated and unsure if this was really for me. Fast forward to summer 2018, I was diagnosed with very mild sleep apnea (on the borderline of what is considered "normal") and in December I was told by my PCP that I was pre-diabetic and gained 8lbs. This was my major turning point. I reached out to my surgeon and updated him on all the changes I experienced - he gave me a new weight goal, set me up with the nutritionist and I took control of life again. Fast forward to now, I can't believe I'm weeks away from starting this new journey. I still need to lose 5lbs before surgery day but I am confident I will reach that in the next 3-4 weeks. I am a Kaiser patient at the Fremont location. I would love to connect with those early in their journey, as well as, those who are further out. I have a great support system, however, they won't know the true ups and downs that I will experience in the next few months transitioning into a new chapter.

My progress - March 27th Surgery
Briswife15 replied to Erica_B's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I had my surgery the same day as you. I have 3 more days of clear liquids then my follow up with nutritionist and surgeon on Wednesday. Unlike you, I've been blessed to have absolutely NO hunger. I do spend time planning bariatric friendly recipes I will be able to eat in a few weeks. Somehow it helps me get thru the endless shakes and fluids. I have not lost tons of weight because I gained 10 pounds of water weight in the hospital. I'm losink ar a rate of a pound a day, which I'm happy with. I am supposed to walk at least 3 times a day, but have only managed 2 times. Still have a little bit of pain. All in all, my recovery is bettet that I expected. I'm 11 days out from my RNY, and have been drinking 100 oz a day since my first day home from the hospital. It takes all day. I get ip and have 10 oz protein shake over about 45 minutes, then fill up a 24 oz bottle with Crystal Light and start sip, sip, sipping. I repeat all day, having about 30 oz protein shake, and the rest either Crystal Light or warm tea. I finish around 7 pm. Good luck!! It is possible. Coffee , 2 weeks post op ?
MylaVSG replied to Lizbethj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had mine March 19. Had decaf coffee and caramel pr pro shake yesterday. No issues, had to split into 2 servings. You’re right, decaf is not the same though! -
I was sleeved 3.27.19 - I also had a Hiatal hernia repaired. This was the source of an enormous amount of pain. I had very little in the way of pain both internally and incision site otherwise. I found that using a compression band was very helpful in terms of my mobility. I also wore compression socks at night along with the band. Today I continue week two of my full liquids phase - and it suuuuuuuucks. I AM HUNGRY. I am also disappointed b/c I looked forward to the whole hormonal absence no appetite thingie. That is not the case for me. I follow very strictly the diet/timeline provided me by my doctor and I don't find it fulfilling or satisfying for that matter. In addition I thought I would be down another ten pounds by now, but I understand there are slow losers and my time will come. I walk a bit every day, and I am waiting for my office visit on 4/19 to discuss stepping up the exercise, hopefully that will help. By then I will be able to have eggs for breakfast and applesauce! I have perused the menus for future reference and they leave me hopeful for future culinary satisfaction. Please share your experiences with me. How did you cope with this phase (those who experience hunger)? What were some of your coping mechanisms? So far so good - but still hungry. I did find Bigelow Honey Ginger Tea is a fantastic probiotic!

Slight pain not near an incision
Briswife15 replied to ciarsdublin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I have the exact same situation going on! My surgery was the 27th of March. I feel a sharp pulling pain when I try to sleep on my side, so for 10 days I have been sleeping on my back. I have a bruise the size of a luncheon plate around my belly button. It is huge, dark, and gross!!! I think the pulling pain will just take time to go away. Best wishes! @sleeveandleanineugene I’m so glad you’re doing well! I will be at Blossom in about 10 days!! Why was surgery day rough? Was it just a hard recovery?

Got my sleeve on 4/2/19 through West Medical. On day 4 and surviving! Best of luck to everyone!

Hi Bariatric Friends ...... I would like to lose approx. 28 kgs. I have just lost 9.5 kgs. in 10 weeks with Slimming World. I have been discussing Bariatric Sleeve surgery but my daughter is so against me having it done. She says that I will never again be able to enjoy a family meal or a meal out .... that I am not heavy enough to have Bariatric Surgery .... that I can lose this weight by watching my food intake and not necessarily having a bariatric sleeve, which is quite drastic. I have a neurological auto-immune illness, which has caused my weight gain - I was very thin until the onset of this illness. I am on lots of (weight inducing) medication. I am going to be taking this medication for life. I am now wondering whether Bariatric Surgery or basic diet change is the way to go. There is no guarantee that I will lose weight even if I become anorexic because of my illness and the associated medication. Would you recommend surgery or just diet management for my situation. If I could get my jaws wired for a time I could find out if I'm going to lose enough weight to make me happy ...... Thanks in advance for your advice ....... I'm very confused !!

10 days ago I weighed 3 pounds less. I had to raise my weight on my stats. I'm one pound less today, but I'm not sure how that can be, un literally not eating that much. Maybe 800 calories.

RnY done. Recently. Feeling sore still. Moving around slow cautiously.

I gained 10 pounds of water weight in the hospital. It goes away pretty quickly, and you will soon start seeing weight loss. Good luck!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Coffee , 2 weeks post op ?
Briswife15 replied to Lizbethj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says we can start back up with coffee, but to be aware it might cause stomach upset. I've stuck with tea since my surgery 10 days ago. Might try coffee again after 3 weeks. Enjoy!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

If anyone needs a good workout try walk the pounds off 2019. You can look it up on YouTube. It's a good workout, walked 2 miles in 30 minutes!!

You probably don't want to hear this, but I think you're doing fantastic! I had surgery the day after you. I gained 10 pounds of fluid in 3 days in the hospital, so the first 4 days at home I was working on losing the 10 pounds water weight. Then i started losing weight for real. So, since surgery I have lost 7 pounds. I think you're on the right track, but try and get more fluids down as it helps with weight loss. Keep up the hood work!! #6 Hard pass on the baking cookies, but I will make salmon tonight with asparagus and avo/tomato for a nourishing dinner for my honey! @Alpaca55 Thank you so much! I honestly don't see the diff between the 5 lbs photos but that's ok. I'm liking my shape a little more each month. Maybe the 2% fat difference is working finally? You are so sweet, but trust me, I'm not a good role model! I just hack my body obsessively. Please don't be like me. I hope you are healing and beginning to get relief for your back!! It's so frustrating doing everything "right" and not seeing the results we want to see, or seeing opposite results. No doubt that is only a temporary water fluctuation, but I still feel your pain! Glad you're back here with us again! Don't ever leave. Ok? As for maintaining a super strict lifestyle/diet...19 years ago now people said I'd never be able to sustain a LC lifestyle. I laugh at that every day. My lipids are totes norm...cholesterol totes norm, etc...and control my insulin and bgs just fine now with the help of the surgery and a good lchf (low carb healthy fat) diet. You can do it (or whatever diet you choose). Each day you make the right choice to stay with your plan, it gets easier to make that plan a lifestyle rather than a "diet" or regimine. Diet btw, isn't a dirty word. ((hugs))

Don't be discouraged 10 lbs in 10 days is amazing so far. Looks like you need to get in more water. From what I've read here the weightloss will happen. Remember this is a marathon and not a sprint and everyday is one step closer to the finish line.
