Pre-Op Depression???
ReadySteadyGo replied to Jeen423's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did. I think, especially for people who have been large their whole life, that we have tried so long to love ourselves despite our weight and the way society treats "fat" people. We have struggled with showing people our worth despite our weight. Now, we have to accept that their is truely something wrong. Something emotional that attaches itself to the physical. I think that is a hard thing to do. Plus you are being forced to look at yourself as obese, morbidly obese, severely obese, super obese. Whatever the case I think that can be very depressing. We are also breaking off a dear friendship. We have celebrating, cried, intoxicated ourselves with food. At least for me, food has been one of my most loyal friends, and it's like it's moving across the country. Your relationship with food will never be the same. I think depression is normal, in fact I think every emotion you have pre surgery and post surgery is its on "normal". Just express everything to your doctor. -
Not all younger people do not follow the doctor's rules though. I am turning 23 this week and I get banded in November and I intend to follow every rule the doctor has. He wants me on 1 week clear 2 weeks full 2 weeks pureed then soft solids into more regular solid foods. This is a life changing event I am not going to screw it up because I am hungry while I am STILL healing. I have learned a ton from the oldies on here who have been banded for long periods of time and I love them dearly. Many I talk to daily...and they believe I am going to have great success with the band with the attitude I have. And I think so too. I have already changed my eating patterns now and this is why I have lost 20.5 lbs in 3 months not even being banded yet. I want to be healthier and smaller for when I do have my surgery and more likely have a smaller healthier liver. I have 3 more months of this diet and I hope to lose at least another 20 lbs. I cannot wait to be banded and lose this weight. To all of you eating foods that require your stomach to churn to digest I sure hope you don't have problems with your band in the long run. It doesn't always show up early in banding...it shows up long after too. I'd be praying. Good luck to all. Coltonwade I think your advice is spectacular. Keep it up.

Need some advise
angwallace14 replied to angwallace14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for writing back. That is so good to hear, I feel like some clients would rather talk to me about weight because they know that I can understand, but the stigma that goes with it is sometimes miserable, but at times i feel like I give myself the hardest time about my weight. Oh I would love to have her email address thanks so much, and are you happy you did it. Also your BMI was not over 40 so did you have so other risk factor because mine is just under 40. I don't know anyone that has had it done so I would love some feedback thanks again Angela -
i was banded by Dr. Curry in Cincinnati, Ohio. his registered dietician was overweight and got banded by him. she lost 100% of the weight she wanted and looks great! when i met with her, i didn't believe that she was ever overweight but she keeps a before picture of herself on her board. i know she would love to help you if she could. let me know if you'd like her email address!

I would go to the meeting! When you go you will get information about the band, how it works and they usually have patients there that will tell their story and you can ask them questions. I was like you, I knew what to do to lose weight, it just didn't work for me. You will find lots of info on this site. You will find that there are people that have huge success and those that struggle with the band. It is a decision that you have to weigh. I went with the band, because I knew I needed a tool to help me get the weight off. I am just banded so I can't tell you what this will look like long term, but so far so good! The band isn't a magic pill, it is put in place to help you learn to live a new healthier lifestyle. You have to work at losing the weight and making sure you are eating the right foods and exercising. If you are ready to make that commitment to yourself, then the band may be right for you! I encourage you to investigate and find out if this is something that can help you!

Anyone Here From Los Angeles,ca That Can Give Me Info Please?
ohhuera replied to Karen2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I was sleeved at Kaiser West LA. My surgeon was Dr. Casillas. It took me approximately 2 months after my consult with the surgeon to be called by the scheduler to get a surgery date. It has been great so far. I'm a week and a half post op. I can tell you as far as the weight loss, if you are assigned to Dr. Casillas, do NOT gain any weight or he will reschedule. I gained 1/2 lb and he canceled my surgery and I was put back on the surgery appt wait list. Which by the way took another 2 months to get a surgery date another 2 months away. All in all, West LA is great as well as Dr. Casillas. No regrets here! -

Second Thoughts...
boriquita2000 replied to heidihud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like you am having surgery on May 22nd. I know exactly how you feel because I weighed 278 on May 5th and today I weigh 249. I know of course that it is due to the pre op liquid diet that I have been on for almost two weeks. The thought has gone through my mind several times...." Oh, Andi, you can do this without surgery" but then reality hits me hard and I remember the numerous times that I have lost and gained back plus some.... I am going into this surgery with a positive attitude and I am fully ready for a more permanent change.......we only have a few days to go....... -
Do you ever have irritation from taking pills?
Baba Wawa replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does your doctor know you are taking NSAIDs with a band on a regular basis? This is not recommended for us, since NSAIDs are believed to increase the risk of erosion. I took ibuprofen or aleve for years prior to banding and only take it occasionally, in liquid form, when I absolutely need it. I have spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis and with my weight loss, I don't need the medication so much. -
Are most Sleevers Women? If so Why?
Ms skinniness replied to MidnightBinger's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To be totally honest, you will loose muscle mass in the beginning as everyone does because you can eat so little, but further out, you will be able to eat much more and there are numerous guys here that lift weights and do marathons too.... -
I am looking to have the surgery in December and was wondering if anyone diagnosed with IBS has seen it get better after surgery. I am not having it for that reason but wondering if it makes it better or worse. I'd think it wod be better since I'd weigh a lot less and eat less. Currently 350lbs and doctor says I should get to 200 no later than 18 months post surgery Sent from my SM-G965U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

So I'm new here. I had gastric bypass surgery on February 7th 2012. I had decided about a year prior that it was the best decision for me. At that point in my life I had attempted every type of weight loss aside from illegal drugs or starving myself. I was a gym addict. Portion controlled. No snacking. I was seeing a dietician. I had been checked multiple times to see if there was anything health wise that was hindering my weight loss. Nothing. Couldn't lose a pound. So at age 23 and 311 lbs. I had RNY. It was difficult at first. I remember the miserable feeling when I woke up that next day. The first time I tried to eat something my stomach didn't agree with post surgery. But I knew I would be a happier me after all was said and done. I struggle with depression still. Not from the surgery but just in general. So it hasn't been easy for me. But now, here I am, 4.5 years later and I've hit a plateau at 180lbs. I'm me. More me than I've ever been before. I work my butt off. I hike and swim. Practically lived in a bikini all summer when I wasn't at work. I'm at the gym religiously. I eat right and take my vitamins. The worst part still is meeting someone. My self esteem didn't change with the weight loss. I had dated someone for 6 years up until a year or so after I had the surgery and it ended suddenly. I've dated on and off since then but I struggle. So I'd like to meet someone who is on the same playing field as me. Someone who understands the emotions and struggle associated with this new lifestyle. Just looking for a friend.

Oh Lord :/ That's my whole reasoning for wanting a revision is that for the life of me I can't loose anything after getting the liquid out I've gained 15lbs and now that I have liquid put back in I can't even loose the 15lbs I gained!! apart from having some minor issues with my bad. Hi everyone! I have been lurking around many WLS sites for months, this is my first time posting. I'm having the Roux n Y bypass on March 12th. I can't believe how close it is! I'm getting nervous, but I'm far more excited than I am nervous. A little about me...I'm 37 single mom of a 12yr old boy and 2yr old girl. I have struggled with my weight pretty much since I can remember. However it has really spiraled out of control these last 10 years. I'm 5'2 and a 1/2 (lol) and 270lbs. I'm looking forward to a much more active lifestyle, I have a long list of "first's" to complete. Most importantly I want to be a better example to my children, as well as be able to physically enjoy time with them outdoors etc.. -
TMI but I need to know if this is something I should be worried about.
Eyemallrt replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I read on this forum that when you are losing weight quickly that those fat cells that you are burning are dumping estrogen into your system. It seems a lot of ppl experience heavier, longer periods after WLS. If you are taking your multivitamin with iron in it, you should be fine. -
Im new & looking for new lap band buddies! :)
katwmn63 replied to MsFab1988's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad you are here. You will find lots of support and advice here. Hang in there on the Protein shakes. I am on my preop diet also, my surgery is Monday. It helps to mix it with nonfat skim instead of Water, and with berries, Peanut Butter etc... to make the taste a lttle better from time to time. But remember...it is only temporary, you won't have to be on liquids forever. And the end result is a new you (weight wise anyway). Keep us posted on your surgery and progress and come back to vent when necessary too. -kat -

Hey! Just a note to give my 2 cents worth.. Getting the band for me was one of the best things I could have done for myself. I have struggled with my weight ALL MY LIFE.. and I know the band is working.. It is slow going, and as they say, "not a quick fix, but a tool," but I believe I am on the right track! Good luck and God Bless! -
I went back to Curves three weeks ago and last week I started back to the YMCA (figured four weeks for Curves and six weeks for the YMCA). (Two days each weekly) So my question to all of you is: have any of you had issues with lower abdominal pain? I've been to the Y 3 times--I workout for an hour on the machines--and now I'm having severe pain in the area below my port. It IS easing up since Thursday morning (I last worked out Wednesday) but it's still there. I'm blaming the leg press, because when I work that, I do experience pain in that area and end up holding that area while I'm pressing. Could this be it or do you think it's just working with too heavy weights?? (I've severe kicked back from where I was before surgery) I am such an idiot--I'm considering waiting until January to go back to heavy weights again and kick Curves up to three days a week. What's your thoughts??

1) I know the requirements for United Healthcare was a BMI of 40 or higher, 100 pounds over weight, or a BMI of something arouund 35 with some kind of health problems like high blood pressure or diabetes. 2) I met with my doctor on 11/17 and got approved about two weeks later. 3) Insurance covers it. 4) I will be banded on 1/11 and my hospital stay will be at least two days, but most doctors allow patients to leave the same day of surgery. 5)Sorry no babies "yet", so not sure on that question. I hope some of my answers helped, even though I'm not banded yet. Good luck. Be BLESSED!

I am just wrapping up my three month supervised diet. Within the three months I have lost 7 gained 4 then lost 2. I was just curious if anyone else has BCBS - Texas. If so was it hard to get an approval out of them. I am hoping to send in all the paperwork the first week of January (if everything goes as planned) does it take days, weeks, months? Or is it really just how ever fast my doctor moves is how fast the insurance will move. Also I feel a tad by the wasteside. I have only been in contact with my insurance once, and that was just to see even if they would cover the lap-band. Is that normal? Why does it feel I have been so stagnent for the last few months? Is that what it's suppose to be like. I just really want things to start moving quickly!!! I'm tired of waiting!!

Feeling frustrated and grumpy
oldiebutgoodie2 replied to cakegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing to do with weight loss and the band, but just wanted to say hi to you wonderful Australians! I was there two years ago for two weeks. Went to Adalaide, Kangaroo Island, the Great Barrier Reef and the rain forest. Beautiful, beautiful, and what nice people! Wish I stayed longer and saw more! By the way, good luck to you both. I've been at the band thing for a little over 3 months, and despite the few little negative 'downs' (little or no weight loss sometimes, or even once, a weight gain!) it has been an amazing journey, already reaping super rewards (off 3 blood pressure meds, down 4 sizes!). The frustration/grumpiness will pass, I promise! It will visit again from time to time, but like my Mom always said, "This too shall pass." And it always did! Best of luck to you down under! -
Officially the slowest loser, but a loser!
Margaret replied to Lots Of Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you're fine. My weight hit a huge stall around 3 weeks and not until I ate more and drank more did it budge again. I think it's not good to pay that much attention to the really speedy losers because it is a downer to compare if your body is a bit slower. I'm thinking we all will lose the weight in time if we just do what we're told to do! Good luck to you----and congrats on 20. I'm 7 weeks out and have lost about 24. -
Tattoos before and after
MINI-Me replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My tatoots are on my lower back (aka "tramp stamp") and my foot. I've lost weight in both places - had NO idea that I had fat on my feet. Both look just as good. Not sure how the thigh would have looked though since I've lost A LOT there! -
I was just sleeved on May 14th. The first few days were rougher than I expected them to be, but I have had small improvements everyday that I am sure will continue! I have read on these forums that a lot of you sleevers have started taking Probiotics as a supplement. I read about them on line and found that a recent study at Stanford University showed that people who had WLS lost more weight when they took the probiotics. I was not told by my surgeon or weight loss center to take them, but I would like to and I was wondering what those of you who do take them take for brand and dose and doses per day?? Thanks!!
