Nlo127 - I just started puréed today and I so miss sushi Positive - I'm glad that you got an answer from the doc and hopefully this will give you some relief So today was puréed and it didn't go as planned this far. I was nervous so I stuck with a Protein Shake for Breakfast and brought my tuna and a yogurt for work - lets just say the tuna was a big no Bueno, it gave me awful reflux at work, which is super embarrassing. The yogurt went down easier so yayyyy and I'm going to try my ricotta bake for dinner. Is anyone tracking their calories? I'm using my fitness pal and if I could get everything down, I will be over 500 calories and at about 65 Protein, guess I will try again tomorrow MxKitty - you seem to have the food thing down -
Does the patch help with nausea? I can't take my vitamins because they are making me puke and I am 6 days post op so all I can have is liquids. Even the yogurt, milk and thick protein shakes aren't enough for my belly to prevent nausea. I even tried grinding the vitamins into my shakes but its not helping.

Switching from liquid to mushies

Is there a way to make cottage cheese taste any good? I never liked it but my nut said I should start having it Have you tried cottage cheese post surgery? Preop, I hated greek yogurt, just the texture alone made me want to gag. Post op--it is one of my favorite go to foods. -
Did your office provide you with a detailed list?Everyone's plan is different and the answers will be varied. For example, I was only on clear liquids in the hospital , once discharged home I was on full liquids for 2 weeks which included Protein shakes, broth, fat free cream soups, yogurt, sf Jello, sf pudding, cream of wheat, etc.

Prior to surgery and the months following, our diets are so restricted and very planned out for us. A question I get asked a lot is what do you eat now that you are a ways out from surgery? So I decided to make a list of recipes and snack/meal ideas I use now at almost 4 years out. Remember, I eat six meals/snacks a day. Breakfast: Frittatta with Ricotta and Mixed Greens- omelet Nonfat greek yogurt with fruit and granola. oatmeal (old fashioned oats) with cinnamon and banana One piece of whole wheat or 9 grain bread with Almond/Peanut butter Turkey bacon with egg whites and salsa Special K Protein Cereal with almond milk, or 2% milk Any kind of Breakfast smoothy with protein powder Protein shake Morning Snack: Apple Slices and Almond/peanut butter Apple sauce Fruit- bag or grapes, orange, pear, banana, etc. Protein Bar Homemade protein bites- meat and low fat cheese and wheat thins and a cookie. dinner left overs. Grilled chicken Cesar Wrap (homemade) Tuna fish with low fat mayo, apple and pickle relish with wheat thins. Grilled chicken salad over spinach and kale with veggies and lite dressing. Turkey Meatball sub with heart smart marinara sauce, low fat Parmesan cheese and whole grain/wheat hogey roll. Grilled chicken fajitas and veggies on a low carb, wheat tortilla. Quinoa with black Beans and corn- Jerky Low fat string cheese Sunflower Seeds Protein bar/shake Sweet Snack Rice Cakes Low Fat Popcorn (Smart Pop) Celery and Almond/Peanut butter Veggies with lite ranch Hard Boiled eggs Sliced avacado Dinner: Turkey Chili- pizza Frittatta- pineapple juice and cayenne pepper, served with a slice of grilled pineapple and steamed or grilled veggies. Any type of grilled fish with mango salsa. Baked pork chops over apple pie filling with roasted new potatoes and asparagus Evening Snack: Low fat greek yogurt with honey or fruit Cottage cheese and fruit chocolate milk Sweet treat Peanut Butter Spoon Protein Shake Fold over peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole wheat or whole grain bread. By no means is this all I eat, but this is a list of my favorites and most used. If you have any questions about recipes or preparation or possible calorie and protein amounts just let me know. Hope this helps.

Purée Diet - I'm so lost
sweetsavannah replied to kalea_04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on purees for 6 days now and I've yet to truly "puree" anything...it might help to think of it as a mushy food stage, in a way. I've been continuing a Protein shake a day (most days), greek yogurt, sugar free pudding, refried Beans with Laughing Cow cheeses, ricotta bake, oatmeal (yuck), grits, and very soft scrambled eggs (make with milk). So far I haven't been bored and it is SO much better than liquids! No one says you have to puree meat if you don't want to. -
Three weeks out and can eat four ounces easily..normal?
sweetsavannah replied to provenzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently on purees and I can tell a difference depending on what type of food it is. I was able to eat a 5oz container of yogurt this morning, but more than 2-3 ounces of refried beans is a much different story. Follow your doctor's advice and you'll be fine! I think it's normal to feel nervous about everything this early in the game (I'm the same way), but you will be fine! -

Scrambled eggs with cheese was my go to mushy. Greek yogurt as well. I never did mashed potatoes due to high carb content. -
First month weight loss/exhaustion/starting work
ssflbelle replied to Dummblond's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You and I are at the same phase. Each dr usually has a totally different program for you to follow. But since yours didn't seem to give you much directions maybe the following will help you so your not so freaked out. My Dr has me on 1 Bariatric multi Vitamin, B-12 tablets under the tongue, and Prilosec every day. More Vitamins will be introduced at 1 month and 3 months. I have to have labwork done at 1 month post op. Then 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, and 24 months. My Dr all ready gave me all the forms at to what is to be done each time for the labwork. These forums are freaking me out. I feel like nobody has gone through what I'm going through. Not helping my anxiety. I have had no word on any labs or vitamins. He just looked at me and said ok you're clear to start solids. I'm almost a month out and am still eating liquids and mush. The most solid food I can stomach is refried Beans with a little avocado and the occasional ritz cracker that's chewed to death. I get horrible stomach cramps and pain if I eat anything more than that. So I'm freaking out about starting back at work and I don't have any control of my food. I don't sit at all at work and generally log in 10k steps a day. I work retail and I cannot be off the floor to eat every hour.. My boss would flip and send me back out on leave. I have a sheet of paper with some food items on it and a diet plan of what to eat and when. Nothing very detailed. Sent from my iPhone using BariatricPal This week I was told I can begin to eat cottage cheese, string cheese and other shredded like cheeses, sliced deli turkey, tuna and other light white fishes, soups like miso, bean, lentil, yogurt, egg, old fashion not instant oatmeal, Pam spray and light mayo plus at least 1 shake. I am averaging about 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or an egg, or 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal for Breakfast, 2 oz of turkey or fish, and 1/4 cup of refried beans for lunch and maybe an oz or 2 of turkey or fish and a cheese stick or maybe 1/4 cup of soup for dinner. A yogurt or premade shake or Protein powder with milk as a snack. So I am getting in the 60 Protein and calories are around 400 to 600. Tracking what you eat on myfitnesspal or some other website that has food and exercise trackers would be a good idea. I get that same pain you are experiencing and when I do I stop eating as it is the signal that the tummy is full. You may not realize it but the tummy is only able to accept about 1/2 a cup at a meal. At this stage of the recovery protein should be about the only thing going in that tiny tummy. No drinking a half an hour before and after a meal. chicken, Calves Liver and non raw Vegetables and non pulp Fruit are to start at 6 weeks outs. Beef, Pork, Lamb, Ham etc can be tried at about 5 to 6 months out. Crackers, Pasta, potato, breads, rice etc is not to be eaten until 6 months out and then it is the last item on the plate and the smallest amount. I am to drink 64 ounces of Water, crystal light, powerade zero a day. coffee and Tea is not allowed until 2 months post op. As for your not being allowed to eat or drink on the store floor, I find that to be extremely harsh. I don't know if you told your bosses at work about the surgery but it might be a good idea to get some kind of notice from your PCP that states you must stay hydrated and need to have your bottle of water with you on the floor otherwise you will be out of work again and back in the hospital because of dehydration. Dhrguru gave you some good advise. You have to be an advocate for yourself if your surgeon dropped the ball. Get your PCP to order the lab work and provide you with a Bariatric Nutritionist. Order the Big Sleeve Book from this site. It is filled with lots of wonderful info that may reduce your stress and make this time of recovery a bit more pleasant for you. The offer to support and encourage each other through email is still available to you. Hopefully you will start feeling better as you increase your protein and water. Good luck! -
2 days postop... How did you feel?
ssflbelle replied to BrightEyes42's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tuesday will be 4 weeks post op for me. The first 2 days are the worse but things will get better soon. I see the surgeon for my 1 month followup on Friday. Incisions are almost gone and all food I am eating is staying down. I have the full feeling when eating My lower shoulder back pain left when I was finally allowed to eat an egg a day for a week. This week I am averaging about 1/2 cup of cottgae cheese for Breakfast, 2 oz of turkey, or fish, and 1/4 cup of refried Beans for lunch and maybe an oz or 2 of turkey or fish and a cheese stick dinner and a yogurt or shake as a snack. So I am getting in the 60 Protein and calories are around 400 to 500. Did start to ride my trike on Friday and have been doing more around the house until about 4 pm than I start getting really tired but not enough to fall asleep. Granted I did have 3 different surgeries on Jan 26th but I am thinking come Friday the Dr will be releasing me to head back to work on the 1st of March. Still being disabled and having to use the electric scooter I hope I can do a 6 hour day by than. -
Must have pre-op shopping list
cindyw41 replied to JulzInMD's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Julz... Fellow MD'er here what part are you from? I'm from Northern Cecil County and had my surgery at Franklin Square near White Marsh. sugar free Popsicles Lite yogurts without fruit Sugar free pudding Herbal tea Powerade zero Sonic ice Only get a couple of each and 1 box of the Popsicles. You'll find that you won't eat much. My doctor didn't have me start shakes until after the first week, they just wanted me to focus on getting fluids in. So follow your doctors orders on that. When I started drinking shakes it would take me an hour to get 8-11 oz in. Non food, A couple pairs of comfortable pjs Sweat pants I swear by a body pillow.. this made laying on my side to sleep much easier having it to support my stomach. Even now it's my favorite thing lol. A good refillable Water bottle. I got a Yeti tumbler. Because it took me so long to drink it kept my drink cold for hours. Heating pad Good luck -
Is this too much to eat?
cindyw41 replied to nicky2221's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm Day 6. Four to six ounces per hour? I thought I was doing good eating a few tablespoons of broth. I was the same.. I couldn't get but a couple TBS of Soups, broth, pudding or yogurt down during the first couple of weeks. I could drink Water, Powerade zero no problem. But thicker things forget about it. -
How about some NSVs!?!?
maggie409 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I assume you are talking post op. But either way, I got mine the first few months post op with Premiere Protein drinks from Wal-Mart. They are 11 oz and have 30 gr of protein. Two of those get you the minimum. Also early on Isopure Protein waters from GNC were a lifesaver for me during the all liquid stage. Some people don't like the flavor but personally I enjoyed them. Especially over ice. They come in several different flavors and taste like kool-aid. If you mean pre-op or after the liquid phase, I eat lots of rotisserie chicken or grilled chicken. My favorite yogurt is Danon Lite & Fit with 12 gr of protein per serving. Also the chocolate on top flavors really satisfy my desert cravings when I have them. Grilled or baked fish is great also. Just be sure the package says "wild caught" and not farm raised. My other option for extra protein is in the deli section or your store. They are the Oscar Mayer P3 protein packs. They have nuts, cheese and deli meats. A great snack and each package has 11 or 12 grams of protein My NSV... I got to shop on the right side of Catos last week!! Some super cute stuff -
The one I had didn't have that many grams of sugar. Only had 9 I think, I looked at their regular yogurt and the sugar was really high, but the drinks aren't.

Looking at the nutrition info with 20 grams of sugar that seems kind of high for a yogurt drink. I am only 4 weeks post op. Perhaps someone else with a lot more experience can provide more info. ...just got real!
prettyCali916 replied to prettyCali916's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: I have a cold no bueno. I haven't really wanted to eat anything the past couple of days but I know I need to force it down. So far I've added chowder, eggs, chili, lunch meat and Greek yogurt to my allowed foods. Next week - the 29th - I go to all foods. Slowly. I do think I might stay here for a while with these foods because I haven't been able to consistently get in my Protein and Water. When I can do that for at least 5 days straight, I think I'll be good. Hopefully I can do that this week. I'll weigh in tomorrow. Hoping for at least under 260 this time. Haven't started working out really, just light weights. But i will start cardio this Friday when I return from Palm Springs. Hubby is going with me to make sure I'm good. Lol! He's so overprotective these days... -
VSG in OCT 2011.. Ice water/ hunger question?
CowgirlJane replied to breecheez's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Have you tried changing the habit, and stop eating ice? I have a big sports drink drinking bottle I put ice in the Water but since I can't get to the ice with the top on, I'd never think of eating it. I am guessing you are experiencing acid but that is just a guess. Try proselec for a few weeks. When I had a lapband excess acid made me overeat things like yogurt, frozen yogurt, soft ice cream etc. In hindsight I realize I was self medicating for acid I didn't know I had. I think you need to find a bariatric center of excellence for a check up -my gut feeling is that you should be checked because you used the word painfully to describe your hunger. I was sleeved in 2011 and I don't feel pain, just pangs or twinge of hunger when it is time to eat. -
I started at 364 and in 6 mo I'm down to 260. Been stalled for 3 weeks- wondering if this is the end. I have been eating about 1200 calories is that too much? My surgeon does not have a NUT. I'm eating mostly protein. For instance yesterday I had a premier protein, then a triple zero Greek yogurt, decaf coffee w SF creamer, then for lunch 3oz of turkey breast, and 1/4 c of butternut squash, snack had 100 calorie cashew pack, dinner I had 3 oz salmon w 1/4 avocado. And a snack later on a weight watcher cheese stick. And 64 oz of water w sliced oranges in it - over the day. You think it's too many carbs? Or calories ? Ugh!

Losing very slowly - can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?
Kindle replied to richdan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1) your nut is an idiot by setting too high of expectations. I was down 17 pounds at 2 1/2 months and I never considered myself a slow loser. 2) drink more Water. You should shoot for 64 oz but more is better....I get closer to 100oz most days. 3)as for loriemoms nut saying shakes are artificial Protein, she, too, is an idiot. whey protein is simply the liquid portion of milk that settles to the top during the cheese making process....just like what settles out of yogurt or cottage cheese. There's nothing artificial about it. In fact, it is the number one, fastest, best absorbed form of protein available. Better than meat, eggs, tofu, fish, etc. GENEPRO, however IS artificial. It is a chemically modified molecule that started out as protein but no longer is. The company is a quack and cannot provide any amino acid profile for their product and has absolutely no science based studies supporting their claims or even show if our bodies can absorb it. Anyone with a basic understanding of biochemistry can look at their product and see it's not really protein. Good luck, you are doing great! -
Trouble finding a variety of foods I can eat well...
Athenyx replied to butterfly40's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is all stuff I'm eating on my blended but it might give you some ideas: Try some low fat cottage cheese (you can mix in a little sweet chilli sauce or some chopped cherry tomatoes), blend some meat (chicken or turkey or even white fish) with gravy and put it in your mash (potato, sweet potato or vegetables), order some special high Protein puddings or milkshakes (I got some vanilla puddings from protein.com and they were amazing - I think 15g of protein and around 100kcal), have scrambled eggs (a lot of protein in eggs, just crack two of 'em with seasoning in a pan), smooth porridge, low fat custard or rice pudding, low fat Greek yogurt, fromage frais, or tuna fish in low cal tomato sauce! Hope some of these help - if grits is high in carbs it probably doesn't help you much. Not that I've ever had it before!! And make sure you use very low fat cheese or milk and don't add butter to things! ???????????? -
Losing very slowly - can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?
richdan posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi. I'm new here. I had my sleeve the beginning of December. My weight at the time of surgery was 262. Here I am 2-1/2 months out and I've only lost 36 pounds. I went to the support meeting and the nut said I should be losing faster and told me we'll talk at my next appointment -- the end of next month! It's close to impossible to get an appointment. I would like to correct whatever I'm doing wrong before that. I am looking around for a bariatric nut but that's not going well either. In a typical day I will have a yogurt with GENEPRO, cottage cheese, a Syntrax nectar drink, and a shake. I always go over 60g of Protein and a minimum of 50 ounces of Water. I have been exercising 30 minutes a day and I switch it around, even doing the steepest incline on the treadmill. I do not eat meat. I haven't cheated on any kind of food I'm not supposed to have. If anyone can tell what I'm doing wrong, I'd be so thankful. -
My surgeon considers yogurt a liquid. Anything that is pain related is a call to your surgeon. You are too early out for anyone here to guess with you or reassure you. Keep posting. You're doing great!

Low BMI slow losing encouragement thread
RuralNurse replied to itstimealready's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I started on day of surgery at 189.5 and today (one day shy of 6 weeks) was 169. I really focus on vegetables, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, (both good protein) and lean meat. I will start adding some fruit in this next week. But I avoid Pasta, rice, bread, or any simple carbs. I also drink tons of Water and herbal tea. I really feel that lower carb is the most healthy for me. I have done low carb in the past and could never really stick to it. But this surgery has changed my hunger and appetite and has enabled me to eat to live instead of live to eat. -
I had my RNY on Tuesday, and am tolerating liquids ok. I was also able to mix 1/2 scoop of Protein shake powder with 8oz of Water, and sipped 1oz every 15 minutes, as advised by my surgeon. However, when I tried a teeny bit of yogurt, I had heartburn for 3 hours. I have to crush up my Nexium and anxiety medicine, and the taste literally makes me heave when mixed with water or Crystal Light. So that's why I tried the yogurt. I literally had maybe 1/4 of a teaspoon. So now I'm not sure when to try it again. I'm also finding that a few of my incisions are starting to itch. They were closed and a medical glue put over them, and I will not scratch them, but it's becoming more difficult not to. I hope tomorrow to have the courage to try one of the Bariatric Pal Soups, since I'm supposed to be able to try strained cream soups. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal

Travel exactly one month post op
MzB replied to Mzerica619's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad you are going to go. I went to Mexico City on a business trip at just under 4 weeks out. It went fine, no one even knew I had the surgery. hahah. However, I will say I had no nausea almost from day one which made it easier I think. That is a hard one to judge before you actually have the surgery. The hotel had plenty of options (as should anywhere you go in Hawaii) for soft foods. I made sure I ate Breakfast (scrambled eggs, yogurt) and put a greek extra Protein yogurt in my room for later. There is always soup options everywhere. One thing to remember, on long flights you NEED to stay hydrated! Take extra Water with you and set a reminder to drink it. Hydrate all you can while you are there too. Have a great trip.
