need help to get back on track

Hey Starr, Sorry to hear about all of your struggles, that must have been really frustrating to get down to 165 and then b/c of a medication, re-gain some of the weight. First I'll tell you, you're not alone. I was banded in April 06, and where I am very proud of the weight I've lost, I know I have a long ways to go. I've basically lost and regained the same 5lbs for the last year or so, which is really frustrating. I feel like I should be further along by now, but am still very thankful for my band. I'm pretty sure if I didn't have it, I would have regained the 75+ lbs I've lost and probably more! So over the last month, I've been working really hard to always write down everything I consume as well as write down what I'm burning when I go to the gym. I actually bought a Polar heart rate monitor, that allows you to set goals and tracks your progress. I've successfully lost 9lbs over the last month, which is a really good rate. Its SOOO hard, but I've found that the most important part, is going to the gym regularly!. Stick with it, we'll get through this!! Keep me posted on how you're doing.

    Bridesmaids Dress

Agree that you will guessing at this point. Also depends on style of dress. There are some online weight loss calculators you can search for to give you an estimate of how much you may lose or will weigh by wedding time. Perhaps the gown fitters could help you determine the size to order from that.

    Why so slow?

And prepare yourself for another at 6 weeks. Stalls happen. As long as you are following your plan the weight will come off

    Slipping Slowly.......

The same thing has happened to both my S.O. and me. Not enough fill yet, not enough restriction, and we started overeating again. We all overeat because there's no signal from the brain that you're full. The nerves that signal fullness are at the top of the stomach above the band. When the band isn't tight enough, food goes through to the lower part of the stomach, and you just keep eating. The purpose of the band is to keep the food at the top of the stomach so the "full" signal is triggered. When there's not enough fluid in the band, we often just go right back to our old eating habits. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT!! We had surgery the end of January and had one fill in February. I'd lost 25 pounds and he'd lost 35. He began overeating a few weeks ago. We went to the doctor 2 weeks ago, I didn't get a fill by my request, and he got a second fill. I started overeating not long after the appointment and went back yesterday for my second fill. He's going back next week for another fill, because what he got didn't help. I'm eating less now, but I know I still need more fills. I didn't get discouraged even tho I gained back 4 pounds because I knew it was very common. He did get depressed because he didn't expect it. So please don't get discouraged and don't blame yourself. The reason you had the surgery was because you overate. The surgical process simply isn't finished yet. After you get one fill you may feel a change, or you may need more fills until you get enough restriction to get that "full" signal after a very small meal.
  7. Hi there. I have had the lap band before. I did really well with it, lost over 150 pounds in a little over a year. well, with the weight loss, all of a sudden I was in super fertile mode and my husband and I got pregnant twice, and unfortunately lost both pregnancies. I had terrible morning sickness that lastest even after my second miscarriage. Because of that, my band slipped. Actually the bottom portion of my stomach was sucked through the top of my band and flipped over like a mushroom cap. Well, That was 2 years ago and I was just sleeved on July 2nd. I've already had some ups and downs after surgery. The pre-op diet was really rough for me. I lost 19 pounds before surgery and almost another 20 since. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled. However, I am super tired all the time and have no energy to even go walk. It's been the last 3 or 4 days mostly. Something you should know though. when the lap band is removed, you should be prepared for scaring. It made my sleeve surgery a little more difficult for my surgeons. That is probably why they would like to wait between surgeries for you. It's safer. I understand the want to have it done quickly so you can keep up with the weight loss, but your body needs time to heal. Again, trust me I understand how you feel. I have been there. Right now I"m having a hard time because things hurt when it hits my new stomach. I"m wondering if I will ever be able to eat a single bite with out it hurting or taking a drink without it hurting when it hits my stomach. My advice, just don't rush it. Let your body heal like it needs too. Putting your body under that much stress causes more complications. It's Major surgery. Just remember that! Best of luck to you! I'll keep you in my prayers!
  8. I had a wonderful Dr in Northridge, Ca. It's kinda far from Long Beach, but if you're willing to travel for an appt, I would HIGHLY recommend him. Here is his info: Dr. Uthaiah Kokkalera Center for Weight Loss Surgery Northridge Hospital Medical Center Tel: (877) 448-4448 Fax: (818) 775-9354
  9. My name is Misty and I had the lapband surgery in March of this year. I made the decision to have surgery after I was dignosed with fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes. I never realized that by being fat I was doing so much damage to my liver. I am a mom of two boys 5 and 2 and I could not die and leave them without a mother and all my diets had never stuck. After some long thinking and praying I decided to have surgery. I live in Conway, AR so I used Dr Baker from Little Rock and he is great. I started this journey at 288.5 lbs and I am sad to say I am only down to 250.4 on my last appoitment on 11/7/2011. I have learned a lot along the way and continue to learn everyday. I realize that it is not how fast I loose the weight but that I continue to loose the weight and learn to eat differently and teach my children and husband good eating as well. The reason I have only lost 38 lbs is becuase of me and only me. Ok well it might have been those 2 months that I told the nurse I needed a bigger fill and she did not listen but I also did not exercise like I should during those first couple of months and I did not eat like I had promised myself I would. I am now at 9.2 with my fills and I am honestly full. I have lost about 10 lbs based on my scale at home since my visit on 11/7 but I never count it until I go back for my monthly appointments. I always get hungry again about 1-2 weeks before a fill but this time it seems different so maybe we found my "honey" spot. My husband is honestly shocked that I can live on the little amount of food I eat but I remind him that I eat to live now and no longer eat for enjoyment. I still struggle with eating slow and probably will for sometime as I change my brain but in the end I hope to be a healthy mom who can play and keep up with her kids..

    Nervous

HI why are you paying for it not insurance? I'm 5'4 205lbs with high blood pressure and have blue cross went to the weigh loss centers and it was covered for me. BMI was at 37% I don't look huge because my weight goes all over not just one area. In any case when you do this beware of some of after feelings that can be normal. My band was a week ago friday I suffered horrible back and shoulder pain for several days. Found out this is normal I hated it then I called to go see the Dr. 6 days later for the pain.. Talked about it he gave me more pain meds and do not let yourself be in pain it will stress you out and take longer to heel. Also heres the biggy I was starving my poor husband was doing everything for me from cooking homemade soups to who knows what. When I told the Dr. he said EAT don't make this a misserable experience or it wont work. The band is not tighted when it first goes in so eat whatever you want BUT eat small bites and small amounts chew it until ifeels like baby food. Eat often so you don't feel the growling and hunger pains that I did. I feel so much better and healing faster. My first fill is on Nov. 5th so eating like this now puts me in condition for the fills because the amounts of food will get smaller. But the chewing habits will there for the rest of your life Congrats and good luck
  13. I guess when you are overweight you are kind of invisible, so now everyone is always commenting in person or in pictures on social media about how much weight I've lost, or how good I look. Just not used to it I suppose. The doctor did warn me, but it's kind of shocking.
  14. Hello everyone, this is my first posting to this site... I really don't have much to say at the moment, except that I am considering the lapband to help me deal with my severe weight problem. Doing some research on line I came across this site... so, for now, all I'm saying is HELLO!!! :uwelcome:

    Self control

Susie you can do it my motto is learn from the mistake and move on. Your doing great by recognizing this and getting on track tomorrow, plus only one bad moment in 8 months holy amazing!!!! Tes I made it think I am gonna eat it and I dont care if I get sick the I bit into it and started thinking about tomorrows weight so I spit it out. Currently I am on and amazing losing phase an I do not want to stop now, I was stalled 2 months ago post op and the last month I have lost almost 20 pounds alone. I didnt want to give in knowing my luck that toast would sent me on a carb spiral. I dont eat any carbs anymore I get maybe 17 g of carbs from my protien bar but thats it. I had just finished t the gym with my run and really wanted bread to give me a boost. Ate a babybel cheese instead.
  16. I will see tomorrow if he wants to change this 4cc band in to a newer model. Also if he will continue to see me as a patient. I hope so ! I been busting my butt trying to do all the right stuff. So far for me today,,, "IT PAYED OFF BIG TIME" I got my summer cloths out, and shorts were a 32 Now that's big. I went into different cloths that I kept, as I was losing weight the first time. I sure am glad I kept them. I am in a 22/24 and some gorgeous colors for the summer. Not to mention,,, I don't look to bad neither. Should be a nice summer, If this Dr. takes me on. I'm almost tempted to take a pair of Capri pants down with me, just in case he don't believe it. Shirley.

    The time is now.

It's been a rough couple of months for me. I have decided that if I am going to take on the challenge to change my body and transform my life, that I am going to go all the way. I joined this forum to meet others like myself, gain a deeper understanding through learning, offer support to others, and to tell my own personal story to the best of my ability. Oh, and I love to blog. So here it goes.... I am your average 25 year old California girl (who's been living in Houston for the past 15 years). I have a wonderfully supportive and mildly insane family. I love my two fluffy dogs and my sister's kids like crazy. All in all, I'm a well rounded individual (no pun intended) with high aspirations for her life. I survived a near-fatal accident with a drunk driver in 2002. The accident left me in a wheelchair, barely able to move around on my own. To make a long story short, I beat the odds and regained the ability to walk. After the incident, my weight got out of control. On August 20th, 2008, I opted for weight loss surgery to regain my life. I'm ready for the challenge. I welcome the change to change my body and in turn change my life, but I need support. I desperately need to meet individuals who have gone through the same things, so I can learn about myself through others.
  19. I read the following article yesterday. So many of the writer's musings on the emotional aspect of being overweight really hit home for me. I thought some of you might find it interesting too: http://www.salon.com/2012/03/25/surprised_to_see_me/

    Motivation! Please!

You are going to be more likely to stick with your exercise plan if you choose something you enjoy doing. For me this is walking, yoga, and water aerobics. Right now I'm back at yoga after recovering from an injury. I am considering taking a weight lifting class so I can be stronger for my yoga class.
  21. Hey friends, I am 5 months out from VSG surgery. I just recently, for the past 4 months, have been lifting pretty heavy. The issue is, that I have stalled to 1 pound lost in last month. Has anyone actually lifted weights, and saw a continual decrease in lbs? My calories daily are around 1300. The way I figure it, I HAVE to have the calories to replenish the muscles, but I don't want to consume too many. According to the calculator for Basic metabolic rate for someone my age and lifestyle, I would need 1500-1800 cals just to allow my body to function with its core requirements, like breathing, heartbeat, digestion, etc. Obviously I'm not going to go that high with calories, but I also know it takes calories to build muscle. I'm kind of stuck in this thought pattern. Some have suggested just doing cardio, but I have lost so much muscle tone, and maybe that's just the nature of this journey until maintenance, idk. Anyways, your thoughts are appreciated. Thanks. Adam

    Feeling Anxious

That is so weird. I was told not to lose any weight and maintain my weight until I was approved.
  23. Big Momma is Shrinking

    stalling already?

Trust me I know EXACTLY how you are feeling. I was stepping on the scale at least once EVERY DAY and then getting more and more discouraged when it was going nowhere. I had my first fill May 1, and I decided not to get ont he scale again until my birthday with just happens to be tomorrow. I'm hoping that the scales will get me at least a little present. And believe me I know how hard it is not to jump on that scale....every time I walk into the bathroom I want to step on it, but I'm down to one more day and I figure I've come this far and can hold out for 1 more day. I swear I think sometimes our own minds are our biggest enemy in the war on our weight. You are doing a fabulous job just keep doing what you are doing and you ARE GOING TO SEE RESULTS!!!
  24. I weighed 218 when I got my band January 15th 2007. I hit 127 two years ago, had the band unfilled & have maintained my weight loss since. I had a tummy tuck a year & a half ago and I couldn't be happier. It worked for me.

Congratulations! Your start weight is what I weigh now, and your current weight is your goal... I hope that I can get the lapband and have the same success you have!!!
