    Name Your NSV

I noticed we're all starting to have NSV's (Non-scale victories) so I thought we might like to share with our January Hottie friends. We're all fitting into smaller clothes, no longer fighting to fasten our seat belts when driving, and crossing our legs in comfort. Mine's a strange little one -- I can wear certain shoes of mine again. When I was at my heaviest, my feet would swell and I couldn't wear my prettier or dressier shoes. Even my sneakers were no longer possible. I was stuck wearing Crocs clogs or flip-flops so I could just slide something on and didn't have to grunt and bend over to tie a shoelace. Now all my Crocs are too big, even at the end of the day. I tie on my sneakers by myself, hop off the chair, and I'm out the door without a thought. What are your NSV's?

    What are your skinny goals?

Right now my current goals are: 1.) Have a weight loss of 70lbs by April 25th. I am at 61lbs down now. 2.) I also begin training to run a 5K on July 4th. My training starts April 2nd. It's so weird to think that I actually want to run  3.) I bought an XL tee-shirt that I want to wear by July. 4.) I want to have a "1" in front of my clothes size by this Fall. It's hard to think of any long term goals right now but I would love to be at goal this time next year. DH has promised me a clothes shopping spree for when that happens. So the motivation is there. I had a NSV last weekend when I was able to sit comfortably in a movie theatre seat with my jacket on I still had room to move around.
  3. I have learned to my dismay that my eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach. To solve this every thing I eat is measured BEFORE it goes on my plate which is 1/2 cup. I always cut up everything in very tiny pieces. I then gauge how fast I eat and my wait times between bites so that I finish the same time everyone else is finishing. That way I don't have to watch everyone still eating and I don't have anything. Mentally if I eat the last bite about the same time everyone else does, I don't feel as if I was deprived. Listen and try everything others suggest but you will have to find what little tricks work for you ... At work in our lunch room many times people bring in treats for everyone. I position myself away from and try to keep it out of sight. I am not to proud to ask for help from my co-workers by asking them to move it to the other end of the table...They have been great! I also try and focus on the non scale victories (NSV)! Just think YOU have made a conscious decision to make your life better--healthier! That is a NSV! Just keep trying different ideas and talk to yourself...(POSITIVELY)! Find things that you can side track you mind. I don't think I have ever or I haven't recognized the FULL feeling....but I do know that I don't get hungry between meals. I guess I'm lucky in that respect but there have been times ...like right now .... that I have to find something to do to keep me out of the kitchen. Good Luck and work to find what works for you. Twenties NSVs

Everyone is doing so wicked - Jane I can relate -at the end of the day yesterday my jeans were literally falling off... My roommate was in hysterics, as I was trying to clean. My first big NSV was getting ready at my parents house to go out for st. patty's on Tuesday my mom suggested a pair of boots I bought online years ago but never did up over my calves... And they did! Yeah I had to sort of slouch them a bit to get the zipper all the way done, but I got them there! Over jeans no less! Felt great.

Shrinkin' Violets Part 3 Read HERE!

Good Morning, violets.. What a life I have. I'm sitting here at the lap top watching Ethan sit on the potty watching Dora the Explorer. We're headed to Kris's in a couple of hours to give her some company and get our Grady fix. I bought a sweatshirt at Walmart yesterday that is a zipper front in yellow with Michigan spelled out in white letters. I thought I'd take that to Hawaii for my cool weather cover up. The greatest part about it, is it's a size large and I'm swimming in it. I've always worn a 2 X and had a belly that stretched it out. Then after the band it got down to a comfortable XL, and NOW.. woooo hooooo. Another NSV. I hoped to get on my bike this afternoon after Ethan leaves, but it's 21 degrees out there right now and I saw some snowflakes in the air. grrrrrrrrrrrrr I had my tuna and soy nuts for breakfast and now about to start on my first liter of water. No meetings until tonight. The Bobster is meeting with the pastor of our church for a "serious" discussion at 4. I'm anxious to see what it's about. I really think they are thinking of moving and it would be the best thing for the church. I have a Dems meeting at 7 and then can relax the rest of the evening. Everyone have a great day! As Tracy says... Respect that pouch!!!

    NSVs

I did not see this thread until last night. So I wanted to think about some of my NSV's. 1. More confidence 2. Going out to eat and not worrying about fitting in a booth 3. Going from a 24 in jeans to a 16 (and some of them are getting baggy). 4. Just feeling better. I used to always feel lousy and tired and not want to go anywhere, now you cannot keep me at home! 5. More to come =)

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi Shamrocks! I LOVE the pictures. Congrats to all of us! Welcome Andrew. Come on in and chat. I went to the doctor today. I haven't lost any weight in 2 months, but I am happy that I have not gained any either. But, I'm back on track and life is good. I did get into my closet and took out a huge back of clothes that were too small. I have gone down a size. I knew my clothes were baggy, but I wasn't sure I could get into the next size down. I love this NSV!

    Twenties NSVs

Yay for you! I have a similar NSV like that-- today I wore some jeans from high school that were tight on me then... and now they are too LOOSE! cant wait to go jeans shopping next week. :sneaky: yesterday, we had really nice weather for once so i went to the rec center wearing some capri sweats from last year (when they fit kind of like spandex on me). BIG MISTAKE!! i started jogging (i know right-- me? ME? jogging?!) and the pants started falling DOWNNNNN! awesome.

    Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Lovely: I am so sorry. I have been in that situation and in a time like this all I can say is that I am very sorry for the loss of your loved one. You have been in my thoughts and prayers today. I'm sorry I couldn't post earlier. I agree with you about getting that excitement back. Although I wouldn't want to be back there waiting for surgery. I was one of the last ones and as my day approached the excitement decreased because people were recovering. I am getting excited again. I am only 6.5 pounds from ONEderland and just shy of the 80lbs mark!!!! I think we need to all post one positive thing (SV or NSV) every week! Let's hear it! I am away from my home for the rest of the week and away from my scale. Please wish me luck. Eating out almost every meal. So far so good!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

A pat on the back to all you St. Patty's Day Banders!! I think Jonathan is on the slippery slope. He tends to stay away when he is doing poorly. I hope he finds his second (fifth?) wind and pops back in soon. Interesting NSV for me. I was looking though some old pictures (circa 2004) and was commenting aloud about how good I looked them. My husband asked what I weighted back in then. I said about 217. He then asked how much I weighted today. 208 I said. Then it hit me. With the exception of a few more wrinkles, I look that good- now. One of the reasons I knew I needed to do something about my weight was because I saw a picture of myself (at 284) and was disgusted. Sometimes when I look in the mirror I don't see what is really there. It works both ways.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi Shamrocks. This coming Tuesday will be my Bandiversary and I had such high expectations of myself - more than my doctor did and more than my family and friends did. I got kind of stuck at my 94 lb mark and hoped I'd make it to -100 in March sometime and it dawned on me that I probably do need a slight fill of maybe .5 cc because I am getting hungry and I'm looking for foods to eat that have more substance and something that will stay with me but it doesn't seem to last long enough. I finally realized it isn't the quantity I can eat, its how long it must be staying in my upper pouch before going on down the line and so the sense of being full isn't staying with me long enough. Will let you know if a tiny fill will help kick start my losing. That said, I am so proud of myself and I confess that I've been looking at every St. Patrick's Day decoration and toy that are in the stores right now since I was banded on St. Patrick's Day. I did get another NSV this week with this guy I work with who told me I'm looking terrific and he said some other guy in the department that works out in our company gym had told him that you won't even recognize Kathy when you see her. Whoa! That brought a smile to my face. This idea of a Thread on Lapbandtalk that is for those who got banded at the same time has been an incredible support to me because as we hit the same milestones along the way, we can Celebrate and commiserate with each other. One thing I think is interesting is that we experienced bandsters now are finding how to eat around the band or finding if we don't eat the good food, the bad stuff still calls our names and its bad when we find out we can still eat a quantity of something bad. I got into a bag of candy this past week and it was so unlike me from the past 11 months but I was feeling stressed, it was handy, and I thought I could control my emotional eating by just eating a few and I didn't do it. So, the Easter candy will be hidden away and I'll keep my self 'safe' by not keeping foods that tempt me in the house. Thanks!

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Whosya... careful... if you relax at all, your heart might stop completely! OMG how fit are you! Congrats! Georgia... great NSV! Lacey... how'd your surgery go? Congrats on all the great progress everyone's making, especially those on the C25k... you guys are doing so great. Ok, I've now taken the full week off. Even though my strep is gone, the medication really did a number on my stomach. I've pretty much been on full fluids for the last few days as nothing stays down. I took my last dose this morning, so hopefully the irritation will stop and I can get back to myself... be able to eat and actually have some energy!

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

Hi All, Another NSV! Went to a concert tonight. actually fit into the seat ,easily.! i wasn't squashed together with my thighs touching the person next to me!! i've tried and no amount of sucking it in and squeezing my legs together prevented me from touching the other person's leg in the past. Cannot put my arms down below the arm rests but this is much more comfortable!!

    14 Weeks Post Op

Pete, Sounds to me like this is one of those NSV (non-scale-victory) weeks. The clothes are getting bigger so you have lost inches. Like they said Probably water weight. Hope i do as well as you.

    Non Scale Victories?

I am not part of the April group, but my biggest NSV was at the gym not long ago. A guy came up to me and asked me how I got my legs so toned. I was so shocked. I just pointed to the machines that I use all the time. They have really helped my thighs which are not flabby at all. I wish I could say the same thing about my arms.

Do you smoke? I'd just quit now..... (I'm not being mean just trying to help!!!)I can give you my whole nursing perspective on smoking if you want :w00t: It really prohibits healing and with the band its all about a new you so just go ahead and add nonsmoker to your NSV list...lol that is if you even smoke

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

Hi All, another NSV-:w00t: gave up one asthma med today and they are going to lower the setting on the CPAP!! ( If I get off that machine- I'll do a happy dance!!)
  24. Wonderful! NSV's are the best! Fitting back into clothes always puts me in a good mood. Does anyone else feel like for the first time in years our bodies are normal again? Maybe it is because our body chemistry has changed; I finally feel like finally my body is my friend and not my foe. :w00t:
  25. Mornin' all! I'm doing okay...the scale isn't moving much, but my clothes continue to get looser and today I put on a skirt I haven't worn in at least 2 years. NSV's rock!
