    Weight Lifting Exercises

Hey everybody. I have started working again and I have put together a list of the different weight lifting exercises I use during the course of my workout. I never do more than 4 exercises from each muscle group but I have included more of them than that so that I don’t get bored with the same workout every time I lift. I figured I would share it with whoever might be interested. I have attached it in the PDF form but if you are interested in the Excel spreadsheet send me a message and I will send it to you. All of the exercises are demonstrated in video form on the website below. I am not affiliated with the site whatsoever but just found it as a good source of information. It also shows a number of exercises that you can do just with your body at home, no additional equipment needed beyond the occasional chair. Enjoy. http://www.muscleandstrength.com/exercises/main.html Weight Lifting Exercises.pdf

    3 month 3 week update

You're doing an awesome job -- and the best part is that the weight isn't the only positive -- you have some awesome NSVs too! Congratulations and keep up the good work!
  3. I haven't been posting as much with the new forum, but just thinking about my friends on here. Wondering how you are doing, and honestly could use a pep talk, I am still losing, I am still doing mostly what I need to, but I can feel myself becoming more and more complacent and it scares me. Last week was my boyfriend and my best friend's birthday and I find myself using all these events as excuses to indulge, which is fine, but I can tell it makes the next day harder and I found myself having a full week of 1200 calorie days, and that is not where I want to be! A little advice or encouragement from you would mean a lot to me. My weight loss is much slower, I have been monitoring what I actually burn daily and as I weigh less, obviously I burn less (I only burn about 2000 calories daily.) I am getting scared. I know that statistically if we don't get to goal within the first 12 months, the likelihood of it happening rapidly decreases! And the last couple months I am only losing about 8 lbs. Anna

It really just says "current weight" so maybe it is from your weight at surgery time @brightfaith

    scared of getting a fill

When you first get your band you don't have any saline in your band. That is why you can still eat quite a bit. As you get fills, the band is tighten so that you will be less hungry, need less food and will lose weight. It might take several fills before you get to a "sweet spot" where you are eating smaller amounts and losing weight at the same time. For the first couple of days after a fill, you might have some problems because your stomach is swollen from the fill. Most doctors recommend that you go back on liquids for a day or two before trying solids again. The main thing you need to do is educate yourself on what the band is all about, the hard work you will have to do, and what to expect. Your doctor & your nutritionist should have already done that for you. If not, prepare a list of questions and when you go in for your fill, make sure you ask & get answers. Good luck. Let us hear from you.

  7. I had my surgery at Shawnee Mission Hospital on 3/25/14, and Dr Hoehn did it. It was a very easy surgery, and I had hardly any pain at all, but at almost the two month mark I got really sick and was in the hospital for a week. I couldn't eat or drink for 11 days. It was horrible. Plus nobody told me before surgery, but you'd hormones after surgery are all out of wack, and I would cry everyday wishing I had not got the surgery, however I am now a little over three months out and I am feeling wonderful, and I am happy that I did it. Plus I have lost almost 60 lbs. I weigh 186 now. I feel so much better about myself now. My goal weight is 120, but I am happy
  8. Yay!!! I gained 2 lbs from TOM (I assume) I hope I'm back to losing in the next day or two. It's funny though, I gained weight but my jeans are starting to sag in the heiny (not a good look)

    Slow Weight Loss

What we all have in common is a lower starting weight at surgery. I was 220 when I had mine. I knew right after surgery that I would have to incorporate the same level of exercise I did when I was losing on my own. The difference being, there is no more "falling off the wagon" which I am ecstatic about. No more losing 30, gaining 20, etc. It may take longer to lose, but to always be moving in the right direction was definitely worth it. Best of luck everyone. I am focusing on more exercise and more water. Take care.

    Extreme depression

You are meant to be here. Your weight loss is an inspiration. You are a warrior.
  11. I'm not quite 3 months out of my surgery which is the Loop Duodenal Switch, same as you, but a potential revision is something I was worried about when I agreed to this surgery because I only know two people who got this surgery and BOTH needed revisions. 1. because he got a really bad malnutrition issue so they had to fix him back so it was essentially just the sleeve now (though his was, admittedly the DS not the Loop) and 2. because she went from being over 400 pounds to being 95 pounds in two years! She's 5'5. After her revision she's at a much healthier 123 now. She had originally had the Loop. I, like yourself, very much do not want to go through a revision, but I figure if it happens then they'd just be fixing my intestines so the whole 'phases' wouldn't be necessary. I mean yeah, you'd have to eat lighter meals for a while, but they wouldn't be messing with your stomach for the revision so it's why I still went with the Loop. I won't like it if I have to eventually have a revision, but both of theirs happened in the second year so I'm not going to stress until then. Likely your weight loss will slow down eventually. You just still have some more to lose. For your height you could technically get down to 92 pounds and still be considered in the normal range. And if you don't like what the doctor says... get a second opinion. Especially if it's a surgery you don't want!
  12. I haven't been on birth control for almost 8 years. I'm good at tracking my cycle and being careful around ovulation, but my doctor said fertility goes way up with the rapid weight loss so just to be on the safe side I'm going back on the pill. I saw my Gyn today and she put me on Camila. Doing progestin only until my blood pressure is lower. I'm wondering if anyone else uses Camila or has experience on it. I read reviews online and most were negative so before I start it I figured I'd ask here for opinions. IUD is kind of a last resort if the pill doesn't work out.
  13. I've done a little research on the Fobi Ring. Its purpose is to help you later not to gain weight back. Has anyone had their Dr suggest it or does anyone sleeved have it? Inquiring minds want to know.

    My weight lost story

Hello everyone my name is Christina I was apart of this app a few years back and left but Iam back. Just looking for new people that can related to me here is a little about me. I've had my lapband 8years now the first few years I loved it when I started this journey I was 300 but being 5"8 you couldn't tell. My only problem was I had alot of issue with my knees so at the time me & my parents decided weight loss surgery was a good idea. Fast forward I was down to 189lbs when I got a tummy tuck shortly after that I received well a month after that I was pregnant with my first child. I was lucky you couldn't even tell I was pregnant with her but since then I just had my second baby last year a boy! They share the same birth day just different year 11 20 15 &17 anyways. Since having my son I've been experiencing some pain where my lapband is located and the vomiting has gotten alot worst and I suffer from heartburn really bad. I made the decision today that I'm going to get my gastric band removed and possibly get a gastric sleeve. Looking to meet people in my area really don't have any1 to talk that's around my age I'm 27 besides my mom who had her gastric band for 10years and got it replaced with the gastric sleeve. Feeling excited to start this new chapter in my life alot has changed since me getting the surgery so I wanna know what's new and learn more and maybe help someone who is new to this. Look forward to speaking with you all and Happy New Year Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Week 3 Standstill

Right there with you!! Yesterday was 3 weeks since surgery and I have been on purees for 1 week at this point. Weight is the same today as it was on Sunday. I am meeting all my goals (protein, calories, fluids) and yesterday was my highest carb day (30 with 10 grams fiber=20 net) due to eating some mashed up borracho beans at a birthday party. Daily walking at our neighborhood trail of 1 mile a day. I refuse to let it bother me and fortunately I don't have any bad things in the house. This too shall pass!!
  16. Stay Safe and Hopefully Well/Healthy Everyone! Hi, I got the Loop Duodenal Switch almost a year ago, done June 2019. Please, if you post, say the surgery without abbreviating it, as I am not familiar with the initials/abbreviations of the surgeries, unless you want to post a list that would be appreciated too. I wanted to know if you ever experienced losing weight too fast. If so, did it ever slow down, or did you gain it back? I have been told that I might have to have revision surgery because I am losing at the same rate as when I first got surgery, which will be a year ago in June. I don't want another surgery, as it was pure hell the days and weeks after surgery, for multiple reasons. I was told that I could go as low as 95 lbs, but I am already at 134 now, supposedly one will slow down weight-loss once they have reached 50% of weight-loss or something to that degree for the Duodenal Switch Loop. I am just curious as to if you wouldn't mind sharing what your weight-loss journey has been like if it has been more than 1 year and especially if it has been more than 2 years. Were there any concerns over losing too fast? If so, what helped without a revision surgery? I have to say at one point weight-loss was fast, I was able to slow it down after I was told that I would need revision surgery after the 1 year mark, mostly by food journaling. This COVID-19 ridiculousness got me off track again of losing slowly even though I went back to journaling. I hate to say this but with my own journey, Although I start off by listening, I find that some of what a nurse/Dr. says sometimes is crap, so I want to make sure that the talk of me needing revision surgery is not more, crAp. What have you done, Help! I know that it may seem like a ridiculous thing to be alarmed about but I really can’t handle another surgery so I would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what worked for you besides revision surgery. Thanks!

@@garciagiss, much of what you'll read about psych evals and three- or six-month supervised diets prior to being approved is the rigmarole of the medical plans. I've gleaned from only a few posts in BP that an odd surgeon here and there wants a psych eval for self-pay patients, probably to cover his/her tush. Surgeons generally want a patient to lose some weight prior to surgery because it make the procedure easier (reducing fat on the liver makes the organ more flexible for maneuvering around while mucking about your insides). Don't be timid about asking questions of surgeons you consult. It's your body, your health and your cash. You're the employer. @@OKCPirate, you've written up a brilliant approach and list of important things to consider. I hope you'll copy your message into a Word document so that it lives forever within reach.

How do you calculate ideal weight?

I'm a trust your body kinda gal. I'm 5'1" and the weight charts show my ideal as 110. I work out 6 days a week, a lot of the thin girl that work out with me that are around my height are 130-160 and look amazing. Body composition will have a HUGE bearing on what your actual ideal weight will be,
  19. How should I calculate what is my ideal weight? My surgeon dodges this question. I played football in high school at 165. I wasn't skinny then, but pretty decent. Can't imagine being thinner than that but if I were to go by the BMI chart I'd have to get down lower than 145. That's not going to happen! Would it be better to measure body fat percentage and then calculate what I'd be at 10%? My stats: Height: 5' 8" Age: 46 Sleeved on 10/18/2017 HW: 270 SW: 233 CW: 222 GW: 170??

    restriction

You're normal! Don't be shocked or upset if you gain weight before you have a fill or even after a fill! It took me 3 fills to reach a level of good restriction! Just focus on following the guidelines your surgeon gave you & on letting your tummy heal!

    Question about fills...

I know what you mean I was very tight back in Nov-Dec and couldnt really eat I resorted to slider foods and ended up not losing but gaining because I wasnt able to eat and when I did I'd get stuck and slime, after about a month I got .5cc's removed and felt so much better now I'm to the point where I feel I need a very small fill to get me at my "sweet spot".
  22. Saw my PCP yesterday and she discontinued my last blood pressure medication AND told me to cut the only remaining medication (for cholesterol) in half. I'm having blood work done in 5 weeks and she feels confident that she'll be calling me to discontinue that medication too! I am so happy. I don't think my feet touched the floor n my way out of the office I was flying!! The weight loss is great but the improved (read that resolved) medical issues are even better.
  23. Thank you for your encouaging words Slenderella Kristikay I was supposed to lose 30lbs before surgery but I gained 10...I think the same thing, 6 months is a long time, my doctor only requested a week of yougurt, unsweetend applesauce, sugar free pudding, popsicles, skim milk, protein shakes and raw veggies, jello, but It's hard to do this when I've contantly got people around me eating McDonald's, Taco Bell, and 7-11....once I made up in my mind hey I'm going to do this regardless of what's being eaten around me, I felt a lot better, still a little PO'd but I'll get over it. Time to start losing this weight, we both will! My surgery is September the 27th, only 1 more day, and this day I can only consume liquids, nothing red and no yogurt or veggies, just broth and protein shakes and nothing after midnight Wednesday.

    sleeve after band revision

I don't have much advice because I'm dealing with the same issue. I'm 4.5 months out and have lost 40lbs. I'm discouraged by this rate of loss and that I actually gained 1.5 lbs in tge last 2 weeks. I still struggle with carbs and sweets and have issues getting all my protein in. I've increased my exercise so I'm hoping that will help. I lost 120 lbs in a year with my band and I guess I thought the sleeve would at least equal or surpass those results. 5 more lbs and I'll be back in onederland ! I wish it would happen faster! Good luck, you're not alone.
