Great job on that weight loss! That's doing it the hard way.

Had my original surgery 21 years ago. Scheduled for revision on the 21st. Also in the midst of the pre-op diet. Lost 7lbs already lol I hate that my Dr wants me logging my weight every day.

Hello, any veterens around?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
No mostly just GERD. I never made it to my goal weight with the band, so hoping to lose more weight with the revision. I just had my first appointment about a month ago to start the process, and I have one more visit with the dietician next week and then I see the surgeon for a pre op visit and I'll get my date then. We're thinking it might work out for the end of April tho. -
Hi! I am about 7 years out. What kind of protein are you going to try? I lost all my weight , but gained about 25# back over Covid Years. I could use a kickstart. I live in the Pacific NW, so it's cold and rainy. Looking forward to Daylight savings time and spring so I can get out more. How are you all today?

What are you treating yourself with?
Guest replied to Summermoose's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
New people! What?! Yeah, I mean, I'm not buying people. I'm treating myself with saying yes to all the things I used to say no to before. I shouldn't have let my weight come in the way, but you can't fight the good fight all the time. -

3. The hormonal/metabolic intervention from cutting out a major part of the stomach, but not otherwise altering the gut hormones, may mean some people's weight set point creeps back up and then you have regain. Keep in mind, statistically we will gain weight back from our lowest point, I'm very mindful of that clocking in at 192 today. But it does seem sleevers on average gain more weight back, faster. -

From what I understand there are 2 main reasons. 1. If you have a large amount of weight to loose, they will start with the sleeve and when you max out the potential weight loose they can do a revision to bypass and you kind of "start over" and loose a lot more weight than if you just had the sleeve. 2. Acid reflux/GERD. Apparently it is VERY common to end up with it from the sleeve surgery and sometimes it becomes unmanageable which in turn can cause serious damage so they so a revision to bypass to stop the GERD. I am only speaking from, what I have read and what my surgeon explained to me. I have SEVERE GERD so the sleeve was not even an option for me. I am on 2 medications already, and eat tums constantly and have damage to my esophagus already. I need it resolved before I end up with major problems. -
What are you treating yourself with?
STLoser replied to Summermoose's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never let my weight get in the way of doing things I wanted before and it didn't keep me from treating myself, but I sure am enjoying being a size large now instead of a 5x! It's much easier to buy clothes now and I never could get much at a thrift store before, but now I can get so much! I've really been enjoying thrifting a lot. Weight loss after surgery
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Mrs.RH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It depends what your weight is on the day of surgery. I mean those that have more to lose often lose faster, those that have less to lose often lose slower. But there's so many factors that determine weight loss. Two informative calculators to use that can guide you on your weight loss journey is the BMR and TDEE. -
Thats not bad at all... Everyone is different. some loose faster than others. stick to the program and you will loose the weight.

Insurance Requirement Anxiety
Tony B - NJ replied to Samerin22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me that that was not going to be an issue for the approval when I was getting it. These preliminary things are just a loophole you have to jump through to get the surgery. I seriously doubt the Doctor is going to submit for approval if he thinks it will be rejected. I am sure he or she will make it work to get it approved. I think the point the insurance company makes is discipline. Why spend 20K to give someone surgery who does not have the determination to keep the weight off or get the weight off. -

Weight loss I’m nearing the 3month period & have only loss 30 pounds. I’ve started working out daily 30 minutes a day in the mornings. Do any one have any thoughts on this issue?

Hey, so I am in the early process of the getting the sleeve done. I have two more "supervised weight loss" appointments and my anxiety is through the roof. As a requirement for my insurance, I cannot gain any weight. I go next week for my weigh in and obsessing over it. I was down 8 pounds, and now I am down 5 pounds, but I still have six days to go. And then I cannot gain any weight from the previous weigh in. Anyone else feel stressed about this requirement? The whole point of the surgery is because we cannot lose weight easily or even maintain the weight. Any advice?

One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to la0525's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you exercise? That's what made a huge difference for me. With my somatotype, I have to exercise or else I don't do as well. As you lose weight and your BMR decreases, sometimes you have to adjust your calories so you keep losing. That's why exercise helps me so much. Best wishes on your continued weight loss journey! -
you'll probably have some, but you're at a lower starting weight than a lot of us so it may not be too bad. I had a ton - but then, I started out MUCH heavier than you.
-
I know everyone's calorie intake can vary, but at seven years out, I'd gain weight if I ate 1800 every day (I eat that much sometimes, but if I did it consistently, my weight would start heading north pretty quickly). at a year out, I was eating about 1000-1200 calories/day. You may want to try lowering your calories a bit to see if it kickstarts your weight loss again. You may have inadvertently put yourself into maintenance, and it sounds like you want to continue to lose.

Hi!!! Congrats on taking the first steps. (From my experience) Good - and others Well organized staff and doctors Felt very taken care of from all areas start to finish. Best thing I did — in order you gain control over food and my health Also: Know it’s a tool. You will have ups and downs. Some not fun and interesting things I did not think about Gas Drain tube taken out - after it was a relief !!! heart burn Seeing how much others can and will eat - for me knowing that’s how I was People will ask you when you do go out: are you not hungry? Waitstaff- everything ok with your food ? certain ppl in your life might get jealous At the end of the day remember this is about your personal goal and health path. You don’t have to explain anything you don’t want. hope that helps Tami -
Excess skin after WLS
Tierra T Tij replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have so much excess skin I'm practically tripping on it, lol. I lost A LOT of weight though so go figure! -
There are several factors that influence how much excess skin you will have: age, gender, weight loss history, how long you’ve been overweight, genetics, etc. I was almost 54 when I had my surgery. I had been at my high weight for about 4 yrs. Before that I bounced between 60 & 75 kgs. When I reached my goal of 60kg I had hardly any loose skin. A little on my inner upper thighs, a little on my upper arms & my tummy. Just little pinches really. I was pretty pleased with myself. Then I dropped the extra weight & there was noticeably more loose skin. I’ve chosen not to have surgery because I can cover the loose skin with my clothes including body conscious dresses & I don’t wear ‘suck it in & hold it tight’ underwear. I do pick clothes that don’t reveal or highlight the loose skin - no shoe string straps, no shorty shorts but they don’t appeal to me anyway. Do people notice or comment? Not that I’m aware of & believe my mum would say something. 😉 I’ve even been told I have lovely arms but then I don’t wave them about in the air. 😁 I look at my loose skin as something I’ve worked hard to earn by losing the weight. I’d rather have some loose skin than carry all that weight. But that’s me.

Congratulations on your weight loss that is amazing! Celebrate that Queen because without the surgery you would mid have accomplished that on your own. And don’t compare yourself to others weight loss. All you can do is evaluate your own habits, nutrient intake and your overall diet, if you feel you could have been more disciplined make those adjustments now and continue to enjoy your efforts you look great! -
Sleeve or Bypass? Confused
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to GinSunflowers's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeve and Lap Band operate under a high pressure system. It puts a lot of pressure on your esophageal sphincter. Some people with these surgeries develop issues with GERD and esophageal motility issues years after having their surgeries. Sure GERD will go away with weight loss, but after years of high pressure on the sphincter, GERD can manifest again. I had a Lap Band for seven years and had it removed a year ago due to GERD and revising to RNY soon. -
You are right, its going to be up to me on the success of my weight loss future. I'm starting to look into the keto diet and the meal plan. I do know the dr I'm going too does not want you to eat red meat or pork for 1 year. I'm not sure I can go a year with out red meat lol.

Thanks. And congrats on your weight loss journey. My health insurance doesn't cover and weight loss stuff. So I'll be out of pocket on the sleeve surgery that I plan on getting soon. I'm hoping my extra skin won't look to bad 🤷🏼♀️
