First day of purée diet
lizonaplane replied to carolinac413's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know how to say this, but you come across in many of your posts as very forceful and almost like you're ordering people to do things. You are not their doctor. You do not know everything. Try to remember what you are offering is nothing more than your opinion. While from a physics standpoint, eggs are not a puree, from a mechanical foods perspective, they essentially are. And yes, it is true that we don't need to worry about protein too much for the first few weeks, that doesn't mean that we SHOULDN'T eat protein powder. -
Because the person is already experiencing nausea. The food needs to start off being simple, smooth and plain. There seems to be a febrile rush to ram protein into oneself as soon as humanly possible: you don't need protein for a week or two, it's a long term thing. And if the stage is smooth purées, scrambled eggs aren't - just one of the myriad things these surgeons appear not to know. Edit: rule of thumb - if it stands up by itself, it's de facto not a purée.

3 weeks post op and struggling with nausea
Guest replied to Szietsma's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It can't really be reversed. Or rather it can but it's a significant operation and very rarely the answer - this isn't like whipping out a gastric band, it's surgically rebuilding your digestive system. If you're having problems you need to tell the surgeon who operated on you to stick a camera down your throat and generally you need to demand to be fixed! It's their problem, not yours. That being said, I also had some distressing moments around week three. If you're able to drink water, add a little protein to it, experiment with temperature and use effervescent vitamins like I do even now, you shouldn't panic. But do knock on the door of the surgeon who operated on you and start making demands. -
Setting alarms is a good idea but also having a schedule helps. Easily out I would “eat” at 9-12-6 and had “snacks” at 3 and 9 so I was “eating” every three hours. At a year out I still stick to this same schedule. Your team mah require more or less snacks or whatever but come up with something that works for you and stick to it. This way when the hunger comes back you are in the habit of eating before you should get super hungry.

I started changing my habits as soon as I called the surgery center, and I didn't have surgery for 7.5 months after that. I worked really hard and lost 50 lbs. HOWEVER... around month 6 I was getting to the point where if I lost any more weight I wouldn't qualify for surgery (Insurance required a BMI of 40), so I started throwing food funerals and eating all sorts of things. Then I followed the two week pre-op diet with no issues. I don't regret changing my habits so early because the 50 lbs I lost are 50 lbs I don't have to lose now. Nor do I regret the food funerals. It helped me deal with the anxiety. And, like others have said... you WILL be able to eat most things again, just not all the time. I've had pizza and sweets and chips, just not very many of these things and not very often.

3 weeks post op and struggling with nausea

Sorry you’re having such a rough time. Your body has gone through a tremendous shock. It is still healing & trying to figure out what to do. I remember crying at 3 or 4 weeks out thinking “what have I done?” I was so terribly weak. Try a different brand of protein drink. Add the unflavored powder to everything. As you are able to add more foods in you probably will start to feel better. Check to see if your insurance plan has a dietitian you can speak with. Cigna provided one for me. We talked weekly the 1st 2 months & them monthly till about 8 months out. She was really helpful. -
2.5 wks post op. SLEEPY right after eating
Suzypress posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey y'all, I am 2.5 weeks post op (band to sleeve). No real complications other than this: about 5 to 10 minutes after I finish eating; I get extremely tired and sleepy. That "spell" last about 10 minutes or so and then it's gone and I am just fine. Anyone else? Thank in advance! -
I am/was self-pay in Atlanta, GA. ($15,900) The price was for outpatient band removal to sleeve. Included all surgeon/facility fees. Included going back to facility day after surgery for bag of fluids. I had to pay for cardiac clearance and blood work, which will end up being about $800. I live in South Carolina, so I had to pay for hotel room. I am 2.5 weeks post op and everything is good . . . so far. 🙏

Surgery on Wednesday. Scared, 2nd thoughts
summerseeker replied to dance4thedj's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We wouldn't be human if we didn't get afraid before the unknown. I was so pleased to get off the 3 week pre op diet that I almost ran to the operating theatre. It wasn't my first surgery. Others will tell you how soon they were out and about again but I am sure it really soon. You can always say no to the surgery if the time is not right for you. Its up to you. Its your body. -
Just had revision
Daddyof4 replied to Daddyof4's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just wanted to post an update. I am healing well, most of the glue is off but still have some scabs but those won't last much longer. Any bloating seems to be gone so that tummy is now all me. No lifting more than 10 lb for a few weeks yet but I'm anxious to get back to the gym - I feel my muscles are in a really weak state. I started the mushies today and am having a scrambled egg for breakfast. Two ounces is less than a whole egg! I assume it will fill me up though. So far so good. Down 32 pounds since March 7. -

I know this will not make you feel any better I am almost 4 years postop Roux n y and I buy three bottles meclizine at a time on Amazon. Some days I have to take anywhere from 2 to 8 a day. I want to a gastrologist a couple weeks ago because after this like the time I don’t trust my surgeon anymore. I had a barium swallow test earlier this week and on Wednesday I’m having an EKG. I actually threw up in the garbage can while I was talking to the new Gastrologist! Sometimes it’s just something we have to live with because of what we have done to our bodies even though I do not regret this decision one bit! -
Hiya, I have booked in with my surgeon for the 9th May. I need to do the Optifast Diet for two weeks prior. Its kind of daunting but good at the same time.

There’s no right or wrong answer. Some people do start making changes before their pre surgery diet to get in their new mindset. They may drop some foods or swap out some to healthier options. Some have food funerals & will eat all their favourite foods before they start. It’s really up to you. Mine all happened so quickly (we don’t have the hoops to go through in Australia like you do to get approval). So there was only a few weeks between getting my referral from my GP, seeing the surgeon, then the dietician then my actual surgery. Didn’t have a food funeral and had already cut out & back on some things because I had been trying to lose weight for a couple of months anyway.

I'm currently 3 weeks out and have a huge issue with nausea. I'm keeping things down but I'm so weak, shaky and nauseous all the time. I'm hoping maybe going on another anti nausea medication.

Regrets...anyone?
kristieshannon replied to 18kDays's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had major plastic surgery post weight loss:a tummy tuck with muscle repair & lipo to my flanks, a breast lift & augmentation, and an arm lift. I took three weeks off work and felt well enough to go back at that point. My PS was Jan of 2021. My breast scars are invisible, the TT scar has lightened up significantly. The arm lift scars are still pretty pink, but I’m ok with that. I’m so glad I took that next step. -
April 2022 Surgery Buddies
Kia kaha replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine too! Emotions are a bit all over the show. I’ve been a hangry witch this week on the liquid diet, i’ve stuck to it pretty well, weight has gone down. Because of Covid here there are NO visitors at the hospital, husband has to drop me at the door and pick me up at the door the following day, so that sucks! -

Freaking out a bit? Entirely normal. It's a big decision, and only you can make it for yourself. Do consider, though, that most people who regret having WLS shortly after the surgery are singing a much different tune a few weeks later as their bodies adjust and the weight comes off. Good luck! -

I didn’t have as much nausea as you, but the nausea that I had ended at about four weeks out. They prescribed generic Vistaril for me. It also caused sleepiness, though. I hope that you feel better soon. -
3 weeks post op and struggling with nausea
Szietsma replied to Szietsma's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes! I was bumped up to 8mg every 8 hours but it doesn't seem to work well. Gravol is better but makes me so tired which is good for bedtime (I can't sleep) but not during the day. You're absolutely right about dehydration making it worse, so I sip slow all-day. All the doctor kept saying to me is that I need to keep drinking my protein shakes. He wasn't listening when I said that I can't keep it down. I start work this week and am quite worried. -

Thank you both. I was in the hospital twice this weekend and they gave me fluids and Odansatron but went home to the same issues. The on call surgeon just looked at me and said "We do not see anything wrong with your blood work or CT scan". I felt so defeated! I wrote down all my symptoms to talk to my surgeon about, so hopefully I can find answers. At this point, I just want it reversed but they won't even look at that as I'm only three weeks post op. My fear is that this won't go away. I do not want to live months or years with this. -
Hello all, I had RYGB surgery March 25th, 2022 and I'm struggling. I've been in and out of emergency with nausea and some throwing up. I'm weak and dizzy and finding it hard to move forward. I did my research and knew that this is a possibility but dang it's hard. Even water causes stomach issues. I'm barely getting my protein drinks in. Is this common? I'm hoping to get an appointment with my surgeon to talk about this. I just want this reversed. I know it's not possible but I'm miserable.

Weight loss starts when?
Queen ApisM replied to linzcarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All these post-surgery water weight stories make me so happy my surgeon had me take Lasix while at the hospital to get the fluids out. I have a heart issue and a standing prescription for Lasix as needed (which is very, very rarely). At the time I was a bit annoyed as to why they made me take it in the hospital, since I take it so rarely, but sometimes it's almost like the doctors have reasons for what they do! Looking back I am really happy they made me take it. I hadn't realized before surgery that you can gain all that water weight. It's also not unique to WLS. My brother got his gall bladder out a few months ago, and legitimately gained 20 lbs in water weight as a result. It took a good 4-5 weeks to get it out. Patience is a virtue when dealing with post-surgical water weight...
