  1. Sometimes you have to get a little rude. I told my pcp 3 weeks before I needed a letter of my history. The day before my final appointment with my surgeon I called to check they had it and they didn't. I called my pcp office and was like I have her 3 weeks to write it and I told her when I needed it. Luckily the receptionist there was the one I originally went to and she understood and made sure it got done.

    Rash - 4 weeks out??!

hi there! my incisions have been itchy all along (i itch around them and that helps and i figured that was normal healing), so maybe this rash was under the glue and i didn't know it. but the glue is almost all off of them now (banded 4 weeks ago today!) and 3 of the incisions have a tiny rash of little bumps around them - not a lot of bumps but man are they itchy! i called the surgeon's office and they are going to have a look tomorrow morning. they said to take liquid benedryl but i think i'll try not to since the rashes are so small. they also said NOT to use any kind of anti-itch cream on them. anyone get a rash like this - not hives, weird to be not till now? unless it was hiding.. thanks!
  3. So sorry for your loss. I had aspiration pneumonia also due to reflux from the band and spent a week in the hospital. It was so scary because at first they couldn't figure out what caused the pneumonia. They sent a gasteroentologist to run tests and found out what was happening. My pulmonologist told me to loosen the band because if I continued to aspirate I could end up with lung disease . I decided to unfill it completely. My BMI was low to begin with but the co-morbidities were enough for me to have surgery and the band had to be too tight to work for me. I plan on a revision to the RNY as soon as possible.
  4. Yep, stalled here since forever. Afraid I'm at maintenance but didn't lose enough weight yet/didn't think I was done losing weight.

    Figs at 5 weeks?

My fig tree is full of beautiful, ripe figs, but I haven't touched them yet. Im so used to eating them off the tree at this time of year... Is it ok to eat a fig or two 5 weeks out? I figured it would help with the (TMI WARNING) BMs, but they are pretty sweet. Any suggestions??
  7. So night before bed a was drinking some water and and was talking with my husband and I drake the full 6oz of water in like 3 mins. I now feel very uncomfortable I can hear my tummy make noise, I'm 1 week post op. Did I hurt my sleeve? Do you think I streached my sleeve?
  8. After 4 months out and 55 pounds gone, I finally stopped procrastinating and joined Barry's bootcamp in Sherman oaks. First off Let me say how much I loved everything about. The motivation, the attention from the instructor, the music. Barry's Kicked my ass pretty hard today. I must say I am proud of myself. Will continue for 4 times a week for a few months. Hoping for major results
  9. hi all. I'm 3 weeks and 1 day post op. I am still having discomfort in my abdomen. Has anyone else had this for this long?

    Starting tomorrow

I have an appointment to discuss the liver shrinking diet on the 4th of Dec but I want to start now. Can you tell me if it is basically the Atkins diet? Is it just as simple as only eating 30g of carbs a day because I cant believe you can eat stuff like butter and mayonaise and so much bacon and cheese? I dont want to get it wrong. I am a complete carb junkie and I have just done my first week without them. I am nowhere near as hungry as I was but I have lost 3lb. I feel the same way you do about eating habits. Its so hard to look at a plate of food without carbs and not feel something is missing. Then you feel deprived and who wants to feel like that all the time? But I tell myself that its just the way I have been programmed and like a computer I just need re programming. Good luck for the 24th hope it all goes well. x
  11. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and still can not eat anything. I try soft foods but get that uncomfortable feeling in my belly and chest like I've over eaten after 1 or 2 spoons. I can never get my fluid all in for the same reason. All I want to do is lay down. I'm tired of protein shakes but I still do them but watered down. I can't seem to eat anything!!

    Telling your work

I started a new job two weeks before my surgery. I just told my boss that I was having a medical procedure done and would need to miss four days. I did need to bring n a doctor’s note, but no questions were asked. My surgery was on a Tuesday, and I went back six days later, on Monday. If anyone had asked, I was prepared to either fess up or say it was a girly surgery, but luckily no one asked.
  13. I was banded 1 1/2 years ago. I'm doing well. I'm leaving for a two week vacation to the coast of Maine and am REALLY looking forward to eating the wonderful lobster there. I was there two years ago and know how awesome it is. I eat a lot of seafood, including crab, and don't have a problem with it, but lobster tends to be a little "tougher" or more rubbery than most seafood. I wondered if any of you up there have a problem eating it now that you're banded. I have trouble eating tough or dry white meat chicken so I'm concerned. I've read that lobster is a very low fat, superior source of protein, so I'm hoping the texture won't pose a problem.
  14. I can totally relate! In the last three years our premiums have tripled and our deductible went from 0 to $100/person to $1000 person and we went from a small copay to 20% coinsurance. I know others have it much worse, but sucks when DH was told "free medical for life" when he hired on at company 30+ years ago! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery recovery time?

It will differ for each person...there is no way to tell how you will respond as an individual. That said...I can speak to my experience.... The only time when I experienced anything other than mild discomfort was bedtime the first night after surgery...it was a little hard to get comfortable. Had a pain shot and was out like a light. I was pretty unstoppable. Woke up from surgery and wanted to start walking. Got myself out of bed with no problems...surprised the nurses, and just kept going. Day after surgery, I felt very much like myself, and went home that night. Incision pain was pinchy for about 3-4 days. I'm two weeks out and could easily do crunches or a rowing machine, but I'm being good and just walking 7 miles a day instead. The only thing that really slowed me down was a lack of calories. Needed fuel to think, heal, move. Once I got eating a little more, I felt terrific.
  16. My dr has a strict "clears the first week" rule, and says not to worry about Protein until day10 (tomorrow for me! I've never been so excited to have a Protein shake ) I suspect it may be the sugar. I've managed to get 40 oz of Water a day (not quite enough!) I imagine some of the skim milk and veggie juice is helping too.

    Kids And Junk Food

My advice would be to not buy those things. If they are not in the house then they cannot eat them. He's too young to drive to the store and buy them himself lol It might take a few weeks of whining but he will eventually snack on the healthier options you have available. I also have one child that is gluten-free and two that are snack-fiends. BUT they snack on healthy food. My DH & I are the only ones with bad food habits - thank God we made the kids eat right and not go down the same path we were on. We are now making healthier choices since I have my little band helping me out. I hope this helps. Please keep us posted on how it goes and what you switch to as an alternative to those cookies/cakes/candy. Good Luck!!
  18. Right now you Need to worry about healing properly. Your Body is going to take a few weeks to adjust to these changes and you may even gain a few pounds. It's totally okay your body needs to flush out all the junk from surgery and get used to the new you. Just stay on the diet plan advised by your doc and it will all start to fall into place. Best of luck to you and congrats

Should I worry about weight loss now?

The first 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing, not losing. Follow your doctor's post op diet, stick to band sized portions, and just worry about healing.
  20. Wow, that sounds painful. I would stick to washing with warm soapy Water until you hear from the doc. Let us know what the doctor says. I am 5 weeks out and would like to know what to look out for! I didn't know you could still have issues with the incision that far out. Hope it gets better soon.

    50 days After Gastric Sleeve

If you are cleared for exercise and want to join a gym, by all means do so. Many folks on these boards go to a gym regularly. You may want to also consider making an appointment with a personal trainer. My recovery is going well and I am happy with my progress. Since the second day after surgery I have been able to meet my Protein goal (100 grams/day) every day. This week I am cleared for just about all foods. I am still struggling with getting in all my water/fluids but am doing better. My goal is at least 64 oz a day. I am doing some walking. I have been extremely immobile so am starting slow. I have been cleared for swimming and am looking forward to getting in the pool (hopefully this week). Once I am physically able to get there I plan to rejoin the local Wellness Center. But, for the summer since I have a pool at home that will be my primary exercise along with walking. I only weigh when I go to the Doctor but have been very happy with my results. I see physical changes every day. I wish you the best of luck with your journey. Stay positive and Celebrate all you are accomplishing.

    Two weeks out today!

I'm also about 2 weeks out, and I know what you mean about the walking. I've been walking long walks every morning and I feel better and better every day.

    Prilosec?

Does anyone routinely take Prilosec? I've never had problems with Gerd or Heartburn prior to surgery however now after having anything to eat, I have this awful pain feeling in my lower chest area. I'm week 4.5 post-op. Thank you friends!
