    1 Month Sleeved

I eat about 850 calories each day fairly consistently. I hit my 80 g protein each day. I have a thin cup of coffee each morning, it helps me poo (don't judge.) And I eat half a zone perfect bar at work over the course of the morning. Then school lunch option (sometimes a half chicken Patty or a short cup of beans or their boiled yellow squash, something like that, but I can't ever finish it in one sitting. I take it back with me and finish it two hours later) I drink a protein drink. Premier is my favorite, over ice and usually over two or three hours. A cheese stick gets in there somewhere and soup for dinner. Maybe a yogurt popsicle if the calorie count allows. I count the cals... Every day. I have tried lots of foods I am not supposed to be ready for yet, and don't think I've done any damage. If it does not go down easy, I stop, and back up to mostly liquids. I had half a piece of pizza the other day. No problems. Beef, not so good. I had ricotta bake the other day and it was good, but the same thing today, and three bites on I wanted to barf. Only barfed once since sleeve Dec. 8. That was the dry trout. Ick. I believe that it's all a matter of calories, protein, and liquids. If I drink them all or chew, it makes little to no difference if I stay in parameters. I am down 25 pounds from surgery day, 30 from "go" date (11/23) I think it's a nice steady decline I can live with.
  2. I am sorry that I can't really give advice on this issue, but I want to say that I can definitely identify with you, although I am not quite as far out as you are. I am 15 months post sleeve. Other than the 9 pounds I lost last week (I was in hospital and couldn't keep down any food), I have stayed and bounced from 190-200 lbs for the last 4 months. My surgeon's goal weight for me is 175. Sitting at 190 as of today. Like you, I have current health conditoons that I am working on with my surgeon and gastro doctor. Because of multiple open abdominal surgeries, I deal with chronic pain, and even though I have lost over 140 lbs, I haven't been able to get to the point where I am able to exercise much. Also, like you, I am letting the carbs sneak in. The main culprits for me are yogurt and cream of mushroom soup. Not wanting to go on about my health issues, but I am very limited right now as to what I am able to consume without getting sick. Protein shakes I do fine, cream soups and broths with my Isopure unflavored protein powder. I am going way over 50 grams a day in carbs....this has really brought my weight loss to a screeching halt. @Twinmom07 I don't mean to take over your thread, I hope someone out there has some suggestions for both of us. I really want to get to my doctor's goal weight and I'm only 15 pounds away from it.

    Hey everyone!

Hi, congrats on your surgery. I ate anything that could pass through a straw. Creamy soups seem to fill me up the best. I would stick to creamy soups, protein shakes, yogurt, those types of foods. Good luck.

Getting bored with my foods
  5. I must be doing exceptionally well, or something is wrong! I am not quite two weeks and I have no problem with a 4oz greek yogurt. For that matter I have no problem with 4oz of anything! That is probably my limit though. I have made some pureed bean soups (yummy) and put those in 1/2 cup servings and I can get one of those down too (they are very liquid). I have never had a problem with shakes either. I could do one of those in 15 minutes, easy. I am beginning to wonder if I got the 32f boughie he said I did! So, it all depends on how well you are healing and what your capacity is.
  6. my doctor started me on full liquids as soon as my surgery was done. i'm 5 days out now and i cannot eat 4 ozs of yogurt at one time. i can maybe get 2 ozs in....but that's okay with me. i know my time will come when i can handle a little bit more, but right now, i dont want to push it and hurt myself. just go slow, take small bites, and listen to your body.
  7. chicken is never good, even skinless, on the mushies phase in that you can get stuck and pb. Some doctors even put it on the list of "can not be used as a mushie." You can even have problems with it when you are on solids. I could get most Proteins down at about 5-6 weeks out without pain, even steak and ground beef. However, chicken and salmon where especially hard and stuck easily. There is something about the consistency that does not make them pass easily through the pouch. However once you are on solids, if you eat them with something else they go down easier. I started eating salmon with a little yogurt mixed with cucumber and dill and it works well. When I eat chicken, I have a bite or two of veggies or something else first and intersperse it with the rest of my meal.
  8. Major bathroom problems and crazy rumbles. Mostly dairy at this stage 3 weeks out. After I eat yogurt or have a shake I feel like I need to go about an hour later. Really bad! Starting to add it up. Anyone else?
  9. I agree with Richard. I didn't feel full until about 4 weeks out and on regular foods. Soups and yogurts and such, aren't very filling, so be sure to measure as to not over eat. I am 11 weeks out and still eating 2 ounces at a time, about 6 times a day. Stick to your program, and you will be successful. Good luck!

    Feel sick

I usually am pretty hungry, but too tight to eat anything- usually by 11-1130 I can eat. Do you feel like nauseous? That's probably cause you're really hungry, try drinking something-along with your coffee if you drink it. Or try a protein shake/ greek yogurt- it's "liquid" but will help with the hunger.
  12. I still have 9 more days of liquid, but I would like to start shopping the end of next week for my puree'd diet. I do have some "puree'd Soup ice cubes" in the fridge that I made already but I thought I would ask you guys what you thought was a go-to item. I am planning on steaming and puree-ing most things myself, like eggplant, tofu, yogurt blends, etc......but.....am I crazy to want to pick up some baby food meats like turkey and beef to add into my blends? I don't think I can puree those on my own. How about canned tuna or chicken in the Magic Bullet?? Any advice is welcome =) (Of course I will ask my nutritionist the same questions on the 15th and do what she says but I'm still curious what worked for YOU) THANKS!

    How much do you eat?

Honestly, I didn't see a true reduction in how much I could eat until my third fill. Now I eat about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food two times a day, with one evening snack of maybe 1/2 cup of yogurt or sugar free pudding or cucumber slices or something healthy... Some days I can eat a little more and some days I can hardly get anything down... On the days that I feel that I need more calories I will sip Water while eating to get more in. The reason I do this is because I find that most days I am not getting enough calories and Protein in. Not sure if anyone else does this but I had reached a point where my weight loss stopped because I work out and wasn't able to get enough calories in. Everyone's experience with the band from what I have read is different. Take advice and fit it to your particular experience. This has definitely been a learning process of what works for me and I can say that I have been very happy with the results. Although I had began to get a little discouraged early on because you see some people talk about all of this extreme weight loss in a short period of time and you begin to wonder what is wrong with you and what you are doing. Just keep in mind that the band assists you with gradual weight loss 1-2lbs per week, 4-8lbs per month and your jouney will be a lot more pleasant... Good luck!!

    Going into full liquids

I was experimenting a little before I got banded so I would know in advance what I would like. I tried 1% milk, chocolate carnation instant breakfast, a little ice, a little peanut butter and a small banana blended. I also tried 1% milk, vanilla carnation instant breakfast, strawberries, bananas, and black berries. They were both delicious! My nutritionist told me I could also use silk instead of milk. It's half the calories and tastes so good!!! You could also put some yogurt in! Just make sure it's blended well so u have no chunks. Good luck!!!

    Meds.

I was told to crush my pills (I take 2) and they crushed one for me in the hospital and put it in Water.... and it was horrible. Now I put them in yogurt or pudding and let them soften and then swallow it like a little bite. It works but my pills are tiny.

    Meds.

Most of my meds I was able to do liquid form (check with your pharmacy) but the ones I couldn't do liquid I had to open up and take them with yogurt. It was not fun. It doesn't last very long though. Pretty soon I was able to take them whole again.
  17. Foods with high protein: Protein shakes eggs Any kind of meat Fish << super good for you Dairy products (skim milk, cheese, yogurt) Beans of any kind Nuts and seeds It totally depends on what kind of calories you are looking to consume, but try to eat a small meal every 2 hours throughout the day, and that small meal should include some kind of protein. A typical eating day for me would be like this: 8 a.m.: 1 egg with some diced veggie in it, scrambled with a small glass skim milk 10 a.m.: 10 almonds Noon: Vegetable Soup 2 pm: Small can of tuna fish with spicy brown mustard 4 pm: 1 Protein shake. Or, perhaps some hummus on pita chips 6 pm: Green salad with steak or chicken in it. Lots of greens, not so much dressing. 8 pm: Glass of skim milk and a small piece of chocolate Hope that helps a little? :-)
  18. Rev Me Up!

I could really use some help :S

You may want to keep an eye out for Protein Powder - maybe you can buy some on-line? If you can't find any, drink milk, liquid yogurt, and kefir to get Protein and calories in. You can make a smoothie with some yogurt that might help you out - as long as it is completely smooth. Ask your doctor if there are any supplements locally that he can recommend. Good luck--
  19. I am starting to have a lot of problems with food. I was doing ok with tuna and chicken mixed with mayo, but today, I could hardly choak it down I chew slowely and a lot. I eat slowly and still it feels like a brick in my sleeve. It did not used to feel that way. I don't feel it backing up or not making it into my sleeve, just once it is there, brick city. It seems like almost everything I eat makes me feel a bit ill. I am going back to jell-o, popsicles and Soup for a few days. Maybe something upset my sleeve and it just needs a rest. I don't know, but I know this is not working, so time for a change. I have been feeing tired and weak also. I take a ppi two to three times a day, use dairy ease pills when I eat any dairy, take my Vitamins and added B-12, Calcium, etc. Maybe I will try some yogurt tonight and see how that goes down. I am in my 7th week from surgery.
  20. Mine spazzed after trying tuna, which was in my NUT's post-surgery guide for the mushy stage. But then my doctor freaked out when I told him. He said tuna is NOT a mushy stage appropriate food. He said that making a puree paste may give me and my stomach an aversion to it, told me to hold off until week 4-5 for that. Try to keep to true mushies until then: low-fat or fat-free SMALL curd cottage cheese, plain Greek yogurt, soft tofu, poached eggs, and maybe Laughing Cow Swiss Cheese wedges. Even scrambled eggs can be too much. Listen to your body and take it easy when it tells you to rest. Anytime I feel like the mushy was too much, I keep to liquids for the rest of the day and give it another try when it feels better. If the pain doesn't go away in a day or so, call your doctor. Maybe try some chamomile or decaf green tea to ease the spazzing?

    Flavoured yoghurt?

I'm in week 2 and cleared for full liquids which includes smooth yogurts. My NUT told me to try mixing sugar free Jello into plain fat-free greek yogurt. DEFINITELY helps the flavor of the plain yogurt. There are some yogurts that are blended with fruit -- where there are no chunks or anything of the fruit but I haven't been able to find them. Yogurts with chunky fruits are off the list for this week -- not until next week pureed or the week after soft.

    shakes, shakes and more shakes!!

I use only Unjury as it was recommended to me by another bandster and I have recommended it to others to also like it. I have tried all their flavors. Before being banded, I mixed strawberry with Crystal lite lemonade and the unflavored with other flavors but once banded I started mixing a banana, 1/2 cup Water, scoop of strawberry unjury, or chocolate, or vanilla and mix in my blender and then add ice to make it thicker. I also mix coffee, with chocolate or vanilla, ice and do them same with that. Use Silk lowfat milk or skim milk, SF pudding, unjury whatever flavor you might think will go with the pudding and ice. I even use the 80 calorie yogurt doing the same thing. If you want it hot, then you have to watch out as nothing you mix it with can be more than 130 degrees. I haven't actually tried it just mixed with milk but have with hot coffee. Also used SF Swiss Miss hot chocolate and mixed a scoop of chocolate in it making it a double chocolate. Unjury does have recipes on their sight. Will definitely say their new chocolate taste like hot chocolate. I also need to add that I only drink a shake for Breakfast, but since it isn't holding me will probably go back to Crystal lite and the Protein powder and eat a form of a solid breakfast. Before investing a great deal you might try the Unjury packets first but think you will like the taste and how it mixes. Hope this helps.

    Feeling Dizzy

Mush some ripe banana and mix it with greek yogurt for the extra potasium and it should help.

    Flavoured yoghurt?

Smooth yogurts just after surgery. Greek if you can find and eat it. Blend it if you need to, but no fruit lumps to get caught in staple line just after surgery. I would get the cherry type and spit our the cherry chunks after sucking out the flavor. (TMI?) I would measure out my 2 oz serving in the 1st couple of weeks, but bottom line, a one serving container could be 2 meals. I love my Greek yogurt, now.

    June 23rd sleevers?

I'm a June 24th'er. I have found that I can eat more than I imagined I could at this point. Normally my day looks like this: Breakfast - (1 egg) egg salad, 1 egg omelette with veggies & veggie sausage patty, 1/2 c cottage cheese, Fage yogurt w/fruit 0% fat, or New Direction shake lunch - tuna/chicken salad (3 oz) & crackers, leftover chicken/ground turkey/ground beef (3 oz) & 1/4 c veggies, snack - 1/2 c refried Beans (with cheese/salsa), laughing cow wedge (light) w/whole grain crackers, 1/2 c bean salad w/veggies dinner - chicken/fish (scallops, salmon, whitefish, tuna steak) (3 oz) & 1/4 veggies, ground beef/turkey (in many different ways) Mostly dense Protein (3 oz) and veggies. snack - chocolate or lemon pudding (New Direction), sugar-free Jello, 2% milk, or fruit with milk I usually try to fit in no more than one protein product a day from New Direction (they are pretty tasty now that I don't HAVE to drink them lol). It helps to get my protein up to 70 grams. Most of the dense protein I eat is also wet (I dunk it in SOMETHING). I find that I have more restriction in the morning, then everything tends to fall apart as the day goes by. If I had leftovers from lunch, I could turn around graze on them as the hours went by, so I concentrate on NOT grazing throughout my evenings. So far, that's the hardest part for me. I could eat more than 3 oz and I could have more than a 1/2 cup - but it's the plan and I'm sticking to it! My calories range from 700-800 calories per day. A few times I've been at 1,000-1,100 - a few times around 600. But apparently I am a slow loser (based on surgery patients only though). Lost 36 pounds before surgery, and 9 weeks out I am down 23 pounds. Now according to my friends at work 23 pounds is great! But for surgery patients, I am slow. Trying to not get frustrated and from what I've read on these forums.... If I stick to the plan, it will work. I've said this over and over to myself these past few weeks. So that is my advice to you. Stick with it and we'll both go far.
