Low potassium
Ilovecats1985 replied to Ilovecats1985's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info! I eat a lot of yogurt, tunA, and beans. I'll have to focus on eating more of the high potassium foods for a while. -
Snacks for me in the weight loss phase were usually: cottage cheese light greek yogurt string cheese "meat" sticks (like beef sticks, but with turkey or other lean meats) Protein bars (be VERY careful about the nutrition if you go this route) peanuts (not until 3 months post-op)

Letty's journey post-op
Rdsegobia replied to Rdsegobia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All this week I been reading the book called A pound of cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner and is very interesting all of the points of view he gives about how we gain weight. I also checked out some of his you tube videos. I am contemplating eating the way he explained on the book. Like I mention in the past I been stuck in the 180's and sometimes I feel like my body is getting used to the way I been eating for the past 6 months. I eat about 90-95% of the times good. Still no simple carbs and very limited fruit. Maybe if I changed the eating my body will be shocked and I start losing again. The book focus on eating per day 1lb of vegetables, unlimited fruit, raw nuts ( I think it mention 2oz) and only 1-2 tablespoon of fat (olive oil), 6-8 oz. of meat protein and 3-4 oz of vegetable protein (or all protein could be from vegetable protein example: any type of beans). No dairy, no grains, no artificial sweeteners, and no processed foods (no protein shakes). The only thing I see that will really change the way I been eating is the dairy and artificial sweetener cause I drink fairlife milk with my coffee and I also use splenda, crystal light, and greek yogurt. I do really good on vegetables and I love fruits ( I really missed them). I really think I will do this for 2 weeks and see what difference I see in my weight loss. Actually, I am sure I will do the changes, I will start this coming Monday and I will post updates for the next two weeks. -
Anyone with strict protein only diet?
gracehughes replied to losinglily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor says that the human brain needs 50g of carbs for optimal performance, but she wants those carbs coming from beans, veggies, milk, yogurt. Even the Premier Protein shakes have 5g of carbs in them. -
Can't Wait to get Band tight.
BayougirlMrsS replied to RoseyRose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@@RoseyRose .... all dr. are different and yours may not put in that much. Right now you are in whats called "band-hell" meaning... the band is there and you feel like you should have woke up and not feel hungry. You should still be on your liq. diet and yesssss you will be hungry. Fight through it.. Watch the kinds of liq you are taking in. Make sure they are not high in fat or calories... I wish i could tell you that you will come out of your first fill and not feel hungry.... but there are no guarantees... I have the 14cc band and it took till i had 5.5cc in before i felt "not hungry". Now... going on year 7 i have 10.5cc and im hardly ever hungry. in fact there are days when i forget to eat. I know that sounds strange... but it's true. So, i have to remind myself to eat Breakfast at least... lunch is up in the air. i try and eat supper at least a few bites. If i don't then i am hungry in the am. I have coffee and yogurt with granola most every am. If i do eat lunch its something small and light... Soup/baked sweet potato, guacamole, tuna salad... most of the time i eat it by itself... No bread/crackers/chips... Supper is a few bites of what ever i cook. Last night i fried them shrimp with fries..... I ate 4 small-med size shrimp but i saute mine with a litter pam/butter and ate with a half of avocado. Hang in there.... it is so worth it... the band works if you work it.. -
The only way I've successfully increased my potassium level is eating more potassium rich foods. It's hard to supplement since just ingesting a bunch of potassium can do nasty things like stop your heart! There are postassium-rich foods that are sleeve friendly like yogurt, tuna, sardines (in fact lots of fish has potassium), tomato sauce, beans, dried fruit (small amounts of course), and edamame. Good luck!

To Protein Drink or Not To Protein Drink
Ronjohn replied to anwen_ut's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
20 grams of fat? That seems pretty crazy. I have a general rule of making sure everything I eat has more grams of protein than grams of fat, but that's about it. What reason we're you given for keeping fat that low? I honestly never asked as it hasn't really been an issue. I will ask the next time I go the NUT. It really hasn't been a issue during the first two months. Now that I can eat more variety it is a little harder. I've mostly eaten skinless chicken breast, which have practically no fat. Lately I haven't been sticking to that 20 gram number spot on. I focus on eating lean protein and tend to stay pretty close. I am only eating 700 calories a day, so eating lean protein is pretty important. If I eat something high in fat I will go over 700 calories pretty quickly. I typically eat a fat free Greek yogurt and use Fairlife milk for my shake. Between the shake, milk and yogurt I am at 54 grams of protein with hardly any fat. -
Switching from liquid to mushies
NatashaSaysRawr replied to NatashaSaysRawr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you, that's very helpful, I honestly never knew that I don't each much mash potatoes but I do have some farina, or refried Beans Is there a way to make cottage cheese taste any good? I never liked it but my nut said I should start having it Have you tried cottage cheese post surgery? Preop, I hated greek yogurt, just the texture alone made me want to gag. Post op--it is one of my favorite go to foods.I tried it before surgery but I never tried it after because I think it would maybe taste the same -
Purée Diet - I'm so lost
ssflbelle replied to kalea_04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rosarita no fat refried bean for me too. Usually 1/4 of a cup with 1 teaspoons of shredded cheese and 2 deli slices of turkey is about all I can eat at one time. When I eat that I still get a pain under my breast bone that hurts for at least 1 to 1 1/2 hours after. I tried cottage cheese, tuna, yogurt and egg. I am still using at least 1 Protein Drink and sometimes 1 Protein Soup a day. Being 4 weeks out I still can't get 60 grams with just the food in this stage. I see the Dr for my 1 month followup on Friday. -
I buy Protein powder called GENEPRO. You can get 30g of protein in 1 tbs. it's unflavored so you can put it in anything.. I make protein shots three times a day with 1 tbs of Genepro in about 2oz of almond milk, Greek yogurt, etc Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Any FEBRUARY sleevers?!
SuzzyQ_delli replied to Salinagetssleeved's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery 2/18 I get full very easily. 4 baby spoonfuls and I'm done! Sugar free Popsicles seem easier to get fluids in but I limit two a day maybe try that. Yogurt (which I did not like before surgery) is the easiest on my stomach. Hope that helps! -
Feeling Weak.....Does anybody get weak when you are on pre-op or right after surgery on such a low calorie diet?
Barry W replied to ellenelise12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Must be nice to be allowed veggies and fruit on your pre-op! I have seen that some people need to be on all liquids - that would be tough! My pre-op diet is two weeks of: - Calorie counting, 1200 calories total for men, and 1000 calories total for women, which means the "real meal" has to be modest and quite low in carbs and fat - 3 meal replacement shakes (I actually am using 2 and replacing Breakfast and lunch) - 1 "real meal" per day of lean meat and veggies - 1 piece of fruit - 1/2 cup of fat-free milk or nonfat/low-sugar yogurt - while not required, we are allowed to eat as many veggies as we want - I often eat a whole 12oz bag of veggies as part of my dinner, and snack on raw baby carrots - there are almost no calories in veggies, and lots of Vitamins and Fiber -
Calling all February 1st Sleevers!
mryjo73 replied to arenea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I experienced the same. My dr says that that's my body telling me I'm not ready for that food. Just eat that food another week or so and try again. Yup and I got the same response. Not ready for that. Try again... right now Greek strawberry cheese cake yogurt is my bestie. -
If you are not going vegan, here are some vegetarian Protein sources: Protein drinks/powders Soy Products Vegetarian Frozen Products (I really like Bocca and Amy's) Mozzerella cheese Cottage cheese eggs Yogurt (Greek yogurt is especially good) Milk, soy milk, almond milk Nuts Beans Lentils Barley Oats Artichokes Asparagus Broccoli Peas Brussel Sprouts Kale Corn Smaller amounts in bell peppers, carrots, green beans, cauliflower, mushrooms, and sweet potatoes. Most fruits have 1g per cup which isn't really anything but can help if you throw a couple in a smoothie. Raisens have 5g per cup. Best of luck to you!!

There is poop and I cant poop
jane13 replied to biggmikeeeee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find that the more fiber I add tends to give me gas and cramping more than an actual BM. I add miralax to my coffee, yogurt, etc and it works best for me. -
Examples of Soft Foods
Kats Journey replied to brindall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All Soups, fresh or canned(no sugar added) fruits w/o skin, Beans with melted cheese, mashed potatoes, eggs all kinds, lean ground meats in gravies or sauces(low sugar), applesauce, yogurt, sugar free pudding or Jello etc. I'm sure there is a bunch more too that I haven't tried. I'm new too. I tried to have some meatloaf with a little gravy on it but I think I'll stick with slow cooker things like soups and chili and greek yogurts are my food choices mostly other than drinking 2 premier Protein shakes as well. They sit better with me. It's a lot better to be able to chew my food. I was tired of drinking my food all day. Happy Chewing! -

Those of you that can't handle sweet - have you tried Greek yogurt? Not as sweet, more Protein, - you just really have to look at the sugar content though - they have great low sugar Greek Yogurt options now days Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
If it's a liquid diet - which I did too - no chicken or salad - food of any kind! The point is to shrink your liver to make getting to your stomach & intestines easier & safer! Try Greek yogurt (look at sugar & Protein content, will need to strain!), talk to nutrition stores about high protein low sugar liquids they have, skim milk, broths, sugar free pudding & Jello, cream Soups w/ skim milk, high protein Meal Replacement drinks. Look at the Vitamin & diabetic sections of your grocery store & read those nutrition labels for protein & sugar numbers! it's vital it be liquid only to shrink your liver! I can have skim milk, yogurt, pureed fruits, crystal light, and broth. For some reason, the sweet stuff is making me gag so I have been surviving on broth. I switched to Flinstones complete until next week when I start puree.

There is poop and I cant poop
Barry W replied to biggmikeeeee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was surprised at first too, but the intestine can both absorb Water from and secrete water into its contents. I guess that after your body absorbs what it can in nutrients from yogurt or Protein shake and then absorbs the water too, there is still something solid left to poop with . -
Is anyone else struggling with protein powder?
cknhealthyme replied to cknhealthyme's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
One of my surgeons gave me an alternative that worked yesterday. Since I can tolerate Greek yogurt, I can mix 1 serving non-fat Greek yogurt (about 15g protein) with a couple tablespoons of berries and blend until smooth and liquidity. I also added about a teaspoon of sugar free jello powder to improve the taste. Thanks to everyone for the tips and all the best on your weight loss journeys. -
What to get before surgery?
Barry W replied to Bellalover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Bella - like you, I am still pre-surgery, in fact I am also on February 29th! I am laying in a good deal of my chosen Slim-Fast High Protein Advanced Nutrition shakes, in various flavors. Also have some boxes of low sodium/low fat chicken broth, vegetable broth, cream of tomato, black bean, carrot-ginger and butternut squash Soup. Also have some prune juice (for constipation), Ginger-Aid tea (for nausea), and some liquid anti-acid/anti gas medicine. Plus some nice hot tea sachets, bottled unsweetened iced tea, spring Water, carrot juice and unsweetened apple sauce. The day before surgery, plan to get some fat-free milk, lowfat smooth greek yogurt, lite pudding and jellos. Finally I have a pill crusher, and have some Multivitamin Patches on order. For taking to the hospital, have some fresh magazines, sweatpants, t-shirts and PJ-pants. -
3 weeks post-op ate eggs last night thought I might die? Scary ...
pfw19 replied to BonnieJo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm at 3 weeks as well. I am getting my water and protein in, but the only puree that will work is greek yogurt. Everything else, small amounts of finely puréed foods come up as BonnieJo described. I assume I'm still swollen from surgery. How long does did it take you guys to be able to tolerate small amounts of solids?
