    My own friends don't notice???

Abby, I am sorry your friends didn't give you the affirmation you deserve. You did have many NSVs (non scale victories) though, with the wearing of smaller shoes and clothes!!! Give yourself a pat on the back and reward your success with a facial or manicure or pedicure...you deserve it!!! Mimi

Yes I'm planning to start the Curves Smart thing next week, wanted to make sure I could do it first and I'm loving it! I have another NSV, I went into Dress Barn and automatically turned to the plus size side of the store where I've shopped many times for size 26 clothes. I picked up several dresses in size 18 and they were all too big! I ended up buying a 16 from the misses side of the store! I was so excited the salesladies thought I was gonna faint. I wanted to buy more but I'm trying to buy minimal clothes right now since I'm going through sizes so fast, can't wait to go back and buy a size 14!

I had a pretty satisfying NSV yesterday. I finally came to the conclusion that all of my XL (17-17 1/2) shirts were too big. I went out shopping for Large (16- 16 1/2) shirts. I was still skeptical that a Large wouldn't fit, so I tried on everything that I picked out and they all fit. Having gone from a 2X-X to Large was very gratifying. I felt like yelling "I'M A LARGE!! I'M A LARGE!!". I haven't worn a men's large anything since Junior High School 35 years ago. It felt good, really good! :crying: Bryan

You guys are so adorably awesome!!! My NSV from last week: was on four different planes and didn't need a seatbelt extender on any of 'em ... even the tiny, little prop plane! YIPPEE!

    I need some help

NSV's! Set some goals away from the scale. Getting into a 46L suit was i big one for me and when I got there - bought a kick a$$ suit. Set goals for working out - 5 miles on the treadmill sounds so nice when I say it. Plenty others out there - you should decide why you want to lose the weight (buy clothes off the rack, lower blood pressure, whatever) and use that as motivation......

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Carol - Hey! Glad to see you are sticking with C25K. I started week 8 last night. I can hardly believe it! Hey, check out Susan G. Komen, race for the cure for your area. I think their 5k is always near Mother's Day weekend across the nation. I run the Richmond VA race and it's May 9 this year. I'm even signed up for a timer chip! Rene - So glad to see you back! Good for you for starting C25K again! I wasn't on here when you were before, I wasn't ready to exercise but I finally accepted it and am having fun with it! Angie is also starting again after having her baby. I have to share an NSV with you guys. DH told me last night that he can really feel the muscles in my legs and that there is a huge difference! He's such a sweet guy and his complements come straight from the heart, so it meant a lot to me. Now if only my birthday suit wasn't too big! :cursing:

3/25/09 Get Your Head In The Game

Not to be a buzz kill, but head hunger happens even after banding. You're right though, my choices in "cheating" have changed. I know I can't have some of DH's sub sandwich because dense bread and my stoma don't play well together, so I steal just the meat! LOL! Sure, some of my choices are just plain bad, but I can't pig-out-binge until the whole bag of cookies is gone anymore. Does such naughtiness slow down my weight loss? Yes. Does it kill it? Not so far. Yes, I'm a paranoid Scale Whore and will be for many years to come, but the NSV's keep me pretty much on the path to healthy weight and well-being. Speaking of which, Time for me to go ride my exercise bike! I'm stiff and sore from running up and down the steps of the theatre last night. Me! Running! It's a miracle!

Only someone else who has experienced that would understand. I too have noticed that when I walk, there is not a small brush fire going on between my legs. I was shocked that my thighs weren't rubbing together. It felt great. I also noticed that my wedding rings are getting loose. I will continue to rely on NSV, to judge how I'm doing. The scale changes day to day, and it really is not important too me.:huh2:

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

Now wearing my old size 12 hipster jeans... and they're a little loose. Even my teenage daughter said 'mom, you look fantastic' (compliments from teen rare as hens teeth). Perhaps the strangest NSV is that I want to go running! It's been years since I ran or wanted to run (10 years ago I used to run 5 miles a day). I ran 3 days in a row this week... only 2 miles each time but still... to get up early in the morning and want to do it is incredible. The band and the weight loss success and the compliments and self confidence all together are life changing. I'm one happy camper.
  11. Great Job EbonyRose~ I love the NSV. Haven't been wanting to spend alot on new clothes just yet. My girls and I have been going to Walmart and finding really cute tops between $9-$12.00. Their clothes always seemed to run small for me. At one time I was buying the 4x-5x just in case it shrank. Last night I was buying 2x-18/20. And I think I still had a little extra room. I too want to look good in a swim suit this summer. I need to order one now but I'm not sure what size. Part of me wants to play it safe and get an 18. The other part of me says 20 more pounds and I will be in a 16. Maybe the 16 will make me work harder for it.

It's a little NSV that made my day last week. We are interviewing graduate students that we have accepted and are trying to sell the program to, interviewing a total of 7 faculty candidates (two day affairs), and I have yet more grad students coming Monday. The day that everything started, I was able to wear one of my pantsuits that I simply could not wear before my band. The trousers hung straight down instead of hugging at the thigh, the shell under the jacket didn't ride up, and the sleeves on the jacket weren't tight! I have four of the same brand of pantsuit and I've been wearing them like crazy through all of these "dress" days (we are a jeans-n-sneakers office.) Now that I've got some restriction, I'm looking forward to rediscovering my clothes
  13. Checking in... Love all the wonderful stories! NSV's and SV's abound, and it's so good to see all the happy events. Y'all are about to make me tear up for ya! The scale is moving slowly - but since like y'all, the NSV's are coming steadily, it's not a big deal for me like it used to be. I'm amazed at how little food satisfies my body hunger right now - what I used to eat just is way too much, even after cutting the portion size down. I'm trying to make sure I don't drop below 1000 calories, because I don't want to get into starvation mode, and the "sliders" keep calling my name, but I'm doing pretty well overall. I have a new goal - don't know if I posted it here yet or not - we have a family reunion coming up in July, and it will be in Florida. I play to wear a new, hot swimsuit for that reunion, and my goal is to be down 50 pounds by then. I'm close to 30 now, so I think it's doable to lose 20 more in April and May...I'm also going to add the weight work back into my routine at home so I can start building muscle to help tighten up my physique. I know I'm going to have a soft tummy when this is over - there is definately plastic surgery in my future - so my new swimsuit will have a little bit of a skirt in front, but the rest of the suit is gonna leave room for the pow-bang-boom of my new body! Wish me luck!

I love the NSV's - digging through my closet and pulling out the size 16 clothes and knowing they fit perfectly now and are even getting too big - throwing out the clothes from size 18 to 2 XL (that was even getting tight) knowing I will never be that size again - knowing that for the first time in my diet history, I don't have to worry about regaining the weight - gaining only a pound or two if I am really bad for a while then getting back on a healthy track and it comes off - getting compliments on how great I look - not having to worry about fitting into places like amusement rides, theatre seats - wearing clothes that fit my new body and show it off instead of hiding under loose baggy clothes - having a waist again I LOVE MY BAND! It is the best thing I ever did for myself.:rolleyes2:

My biggest NSV Has to be Feeling great during a workout. At first I fought the notion of exercise. Then my daughter and I joined a club and with her help I went from 20min on the elliptical machine to 40min. Now we do even higher resistance. I never thought I could do this and I am really enjoying it. It's also is a great time with my 19 year old, skinny as a rail daughter. Another one is wearing rings that I haven't been able to fit on in years. Also I had to go through my bags of "I can't fit into these clothes" this morning!

Here are two NSVs where I've taken insults as compliments! My son got bitten by a kid at daycare, and I went to complain to the kid's mother. In the argument that ensued, she called me a 'skinny cow'!!! I think I took the wind out of her sails by grinning like a Cheshire Cat at her 'abuse'! My dad hadn't seen me since Christmas, when I was nearly 8kgs (almost 18lbs) heavier. When I saw him this last week, he told me that I needed to stop losing weight because I'm starting to look 'wierd'!! He later admitted that he's not used to seeing me as a regular size person, and he just 'can't get used to it'.

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

Another NSV!! dropped 2 sizes in jeans, since February. have nothing to wear ( seem to skip sizes and what i saved is too big or too little) i also notice my workout has increased with out breathing problems! :crying:
  19. Okay...where do I start. I know if has been a while since I have posted and I am ready to share some great stuff that has been going on directly related to my band. First a BIG NSV (non-scale victory) I went shopping today for a new pair of jeans. I have been wearing a size 18 (I know I can't believe I've been in a size 18!!!) A couple of people have commented that they are getting baggy. Not falling off or anything, but baggy in the but, so I decided to find some that fit me ok. I tried on a size 16 only to find they were too big too!!! OMG!!! So I went out to get a smaller size thinking that they would be too small and THEY FIT!!!! (I am shouting for joy now) I FIT INTO AND BOUGHT A SIZE 14 JEANS!!!!!!! I haven't fit into that size since somewhere around my sophmore year in high school!!! I still can't believe it!!! I know all jeans are different and I tried on several brands and styles and I could button all of them. I just didn't like most of them and some were too tight, but that's okay. I've also been thinking about getting a body shaper. I am really noticing how much I will be needing a tummy tuck and breast lift. My body is beginning to look like a deflated ballon. Anyway while I was in Walmart I tried on a size 2xl cami body shaper and it was too big so I got an XL. I can't believe the difference! It only cost $16 and it is amazing and comforatble so I will be wearing that most days to work now. I also got lucky and found some amazing deals on clothes that fit me. $5 for a skirt and the same for pants. I kept grabbing the size 18 and kept going back tot he rack to get a size 16. (These can not be even a little snug...they are for work) Okay...next victory. I went out of town last week. I was gone from Tuesday to Friday and I STILL LOST WEIGHT!!! I had to eat out for every meal and was "wined and dined" for two of those (for work not pleasure) and I still lost weight and worked out! VICTORY!!!! YAY! This is the trip every year that usually gets me off track. I have another one next month, but I am more confident that I can make it!. I did find myself starting to feel sad that I couldn't eat more of the stuff I liked, but then I was so grateful because I realized that the band was dong just what I wanted it to do. It was giving me a reason to not over eat. I could have kept gong but I would have felt horrible and I don't want to stretch my pouch. I love my band. I had to say no to fresh hot pretzels and pastries all week, but that is ok. I could have eaten it, but chose not to. The band has helped me make those tough desicions. I know I could have eaten around the band and drank a TON of expensive alcholic drinks and incredible soft deserts, but I have learned a new lifestyle and since I have worked so hard for 5 months I was ready to hit the road and still make good desicions. I have lost 80 lbs and I am 5 lbs from ONEderland. I can't wait to get there. Have I mentioned I love my band? His name is Band Jovi:drum:

  21. Jewels! Havent talked to you in a while, but that is such great news! You are doing fantastic! We were banded on the same day! I'd like to share my news, too! I have had both an SV and a NSV this weekend! SV: I've been plateaued at 206 for over a month! Found out I was not getting enough calories (averaged about 900 a day) so I increased my calories to 1100 by adding a protein bar snack in the afternoon, AND i starting running in prep for a biathlon and i've dropped 2 lbs in 3 days! Whoo Hoooo!!!!!! NSV: I went shopping today for something to wear to a White Coat Ceremony for my daughter next weekend. When I started my lapband journey I was buying 22's, and sometimes a 20. Today I tried on and bought a comfortable size 14! And not a 14W, just a regular 14! OMG! I started crying, too, in the fitting room! Sorry to blabber on, but it's hard to find someone who actually understands what these NSVs mean, except on here! And my next support group isnt for 2 weeks! LOL Take care, and Hugs to you Jewels, and all! Rhonda

I love to see all the NSV's. I pulled down the 2 tubs in the top of my closet that have too small stuff in them, thought maybe I could find a blouse or two but I was able to get into a couple of pairs of pants, some skirts, pj's and lots of tops. Woo Hoo!! I was getting low on stuff to wear. I did buy 2 pairs of pants on clearance last weekend. I won't pay full price for anything right now. My rings are getting too loose, can't wear my wedding rings right now and my anniversary ring has moved from my left ring finger to the right ring finger and now to the left middle finger. Pretty soon I may not be able to wear it at all but I don't want to have them sized until I'm near goal. I don't like not having something on my ring finger though. Also had to order some new shoes. Went down a 1/2 size. I searched everywhere for some I liked but haven't had any luck so I broke down and ordered some.

    Twenties NSVs

omgggg-- some of the best NSVs i've been waiting for!!! so last night i was out celebrating my 21st with some friends from high school that i havent seen in awhile, since its our spring break. not only did i wear a DRESS (size large) out in public, something i havent done basically EVER, but later in the night we met up with another friend of mine, who happened to be hanging out with my ex-boyfriend. well, immediately my friend gave me a hug and he goes "JANE you look so niiiiiiice" with a wink and my ex was a fumbling little puppy in front of me for the rest of the time. i havent seen him for about a year. the whole time he wouldnt stop paying attention to me and i wouldnt give him the time of day, why should i? he didnt pursue me that hard when i was heavier. someone brought up that my brother was taking me to vegas some time in august, and i was telling my friend that i'll have my own hotel room so he was welcome to stay in my room, when my ex butted in and said "oh, well then im DEFINITELY coming!" i tried to be nice, but i was seriously, in my head, like sorry, you're not invited. thanks for breaking up with me, this ship has sailed! oh man, that felt soooo good! all thanks to the band.. i have pictures from that night that i will post in a week or so, when my spring break is over.

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

That's interesting about those who have had ps - I read the threads occassionally mostly to look for those who have had their arms done and see their pictures. I think that even without the surgery that;s the whole problem with maintaining is that we know we look good and a little this or that doesn't put on the weight - so it's a little more of this or that - a day or two missed of exercise oh that won't hurt - Well ya all those things add up and it does hurt - the lbs come back. I know that I have 4 more months til 2 yr anniversary - and in the past I have kept the weight off for 2 yrs - but then it slowly creeped back on - I spoke of this in the begining - my whole things was were I will be in 3-4-5 yrs after losing the weight - For me having the PS and not being able to exercise for a while - worries me - getting out of my routine - you all know how that is - once you get out it's so hard to get back into it. And you are so right about the looking good - I know I say it's icing on the cake - but I gotta say I love it - I do love the way I look today - I love being called tiny, skinny. On my mentor thread a lot of the ladies don't get that from their families or friends - I guess I'm lucky - I do - I get that reinforcement and I think that helps with not going back to my old ways. That and just cuz I feel so much better. I just realized this morning (yes it was 4:20 when I got up) that I am going to be able to take the stairs on the ship.. For those of you who haven't crusied the 1st day on ship the elevators are jammed packed and very slow with 2500+ pple getting on ship - so it's faster to take the stairs (I'm on the 7th deck) - Sitting having my coffee this morning - I thought oh - I will be able to take the stairs with no problems this time. What a great NSV for me !!! Also another great NSV is to be able to go zip lining !! There is a 220 lbs weight limitation - No problem !!! Well, this all goes to why I have kept so diligent on my exercise - it has to be a way of life along with the healthy eating - Between those 2 things and all of you - It has helped me stay on that mindset The support here - the accountablity here is very motivating... I know I haven't said it in a long time - but I think of you guys daily in my life. Oh I gotta tell Karri this or I gotta tell Phyl that - Candice will love this - Steph will understand you get my drift. You all are such a big part of my life and I am so very happy that we are together. Isn't it funny - that being on lbt gave us a whole new family.. Omw - I am sentimental this morning - I don't pms any more - but this must be one of those times where I have the symptoms of it anyway - In the past when I got pms I use to get very angry then towards the end - I got very lovie dovey I would tell my Xdh - oh I love you and he would say you must be pmsing and then I would look at the calendar and say oh ya I am  Really I think cuz I am going to be missing you all - a whole week with out you guys... I have never been gone a whole week from here... That's scary for me.. So I may just have to buy the minutes on the ship and pop in to say hi quickly... Ok now I really am going to have to check in !!! To see how that goes!! Ya I think that once he mets the doc and sees how clean the facalties are he will change his mind.. Good Morning Gang - Yep I'm up early - I think it's cuz I am really excited and I want tomorrow to get here.. Having coffee waiting for 7 to hit the gym (so I can pack my tennis shoes) then go get my hair cut at 9 then nails - a little target shopping - wash my sheets - vaccum my room. Oh did I tell you - I am packed - was worried my stuff wouldn't fit in my new suitcase - so packed it last night - fits like a dream with a little room left - not much - but this is the kicker - I have one suit case just for shoes !!! It's my little rolling carry on - I have casual black shoes - dressy black shoes - my fun multi color heels - white shoes - tennis shoes and yes threw in 3 pairs of flip flops on top of that.. The problem now a days is that my shoes now consist of heels well really platform type shoes where as before all I wore was flats (thong sandals) cuz that's all my feet could stand and even walking in those hurt my feet - Now I can walk all day in some of my casual platform type shoes.. Ok off the fb to play some pathword I will ck back later.. Hugs & Love Janet
