  1. Insurance can answer what surgeons are approved providers, and required referrals. Yes get your records sent to both the PCP and the bariatric surgeon's team. If you know which surgeon is in-network request it, be him on the referral. Some (most) surgeons require you go through their program and it varies by surgeon - some are weeks and many are 6 months. You see nutritionist, psych eval, EKG/stress test, bloodwork, ultrasound of stomach and legs, EGD (scope of esophagus and stomach, etc. Some insurance requires this as well.

    Exercise?

My doctor said 6 weeks. Ask yours. Each doctor has their rules. Walking was allowed the day after surgery within reason. If you do it, good luck!

    Question for Women of Color...

I am clearly not a woman of color but I do have about an inch and a half scar on my chest from a year ago from where a small skin cancer was removed. It did turn into a keloid which the Dermatologist said is where the skin over heals. He told me to massage the incision several times a day. He said the Mederma only works when you put it on all day because you are basically just massaging the area. A year out now and it is still darker in color but it has mostly flatened out. It started in the middle and is now working its way to the sides. He said if I wanted to, he could inject it with cortisone which would reduce the inflammation. I haven't had the sleeve surgery yet but last year I had the gallbladder removed and those 3 little incisions are not even visible. If the keloids bother you or are just unsightly to you, you can go to a dermatologist and see if they will inject it with cortisone.

    So sick

Me too!! im still a week away from mushy foods but even full liquids make me nauseous . Apparently this is very common , I noticed I felt WAY better after having a BM .
  5. I'm almost 6 weeks post op. Ive had my period twice (lasting longer than 3 days) and had break-through bleeding twice (super heavy but only lasts a short time, a few hours maybe). I'm on the patch, have been since 2 weeks post-op. What is up with my uterus? I've been on birth control before and was always super regular. Is it all the estrogen my fat cells are dumping or something? Has anyone else had this issue?
  6. Does your dietician know your exercise routine? If not, they may want to tweak it a bit given your activity. At 3 months I was doing some sort of cardio 4-5 times a week, and lifting 1-2 times a week as well. That’s when I actually started to LIKE exercise!
  7. Getting stuck SUCKS in a big way. In week three I was allowed low fat cottage and ricotta cheese plus soups (squash, tomato) and protein shakes. I had to wait another week for shredded chicken etc. Perhaps you should do the cottage cheese route for another week. Could be you are still swollen internally. I know it does'nt sound like fun but would it be better than the pain of getting stuck?
  8. Can i go on Amusement park rides like roller coasters ect.. I'm 2 weeks post op. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  9. NeedaBreak4Me

    Amusement park rides ?

Well... i would say no..... we are not allowed to lift heavy weights or do strenuous exercise for 12 weeks due to the risk of ripping apart your staples... so i would assume with high speed, velocity and pressure it would be riskier. Your wounds on the outside have not healed in 2 weeks... and it takes a minimum of 6 weeks to start to heal properly on the inside Wait... i just realised you are a bypass patient... not a sleeve... you have also had your intestines re routed and a pouch created.... that would be even longer!

    Back to the Treadmill !!

Today is October 12th. I have been on the treadmill Mon. Tuesday Thursday and Friday for 45 minutes at a 5% grade and worked out for 45 minutes and gone 2.2 miles each time. I have been trying to watch the snacking in the evening. We watch t.v. in bed and my husband likes to have a snack then. I try to drink just my Crystal Light at that time. I need to drink more throughtout the day as well. I did lose1-2 pounds this week. Trying to get back to my 151 lbs. and then head on down the scales to my goal weight which was to be about 135-140. Ten pounds to lose is not that much compared to starting out at 235. So I will keep working out regularly and try to stick to protiens and veggies.

  12. This Monday makes week two for me what'll happen if I decided to try a small portion of regular food?

    not yet!

Some of you may be wondering what happened to last week's entry. That's easy, I didn't write one. I didn't want to have to journal again with a ticker that is still above 200. Oh well, I've gotten over that. I really missed my journal. Of course there are probably people out there really glad that I had stopped babbling. Tough cookies.:heh: I'm still not in One-derland. I am however on the border, there just seems to be some kind of trouble with my passport. I'm sure it'll all be straightened out soon. The last fill I got has really given me some good restriction. Now I've just got to get over that guilt at leaving food on my plate. It just seems so wasteful. There is a Rec. center (gym) next door to my work. On Monday, I am going to pop in there for at least a 1/2 hour to use their treadmill. I am a member at Curves and I go 3x a week. But because of my work hours and Curves' open hours, I can only go Tues., Weds. & Thurs. That leaves Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Monday basically exercise free. Not really a good thing. I just gotta remember to take my ipod and workout clothes to work on Monday. i am committed to making goal by by birthday!

    New shakes please help

Advocare Pro-20 has 20 grams of protein and qualifies as a clear liquid. Palatable and only 3 ounces. Http://www.we-build-champions.net. And can't you add a scoop of protein powder to any shake to up the protein content.

    Today Is The Day!

Well, I'm home now and very sore! I highly recommend staying in the hospital as long as they will let you. IV meds were much easier, it's really hard to get my liquid pain meds down on my own. And I've never had heartburn or acid reflux before, but I sure do have it now! I can only seem to get in about 20oz liquids a day, and about 20g protein. I'm trying really hard, just so afraid to overdo it. This first week might be a little rough, but I would do it all over again. Can't wait to start dropping some lbs!! Thank goodness I have a loving husband to wait on me and two sweet dogs that want to stay right by my side.
  16. Wow sorry to hear that...i had to stop 6 weeks before surgery..when did u have to stop by? my hubby is on chantix (he smoked a pack a day) and he is no longer smokin as of november 12th best thing we coulda bought...call and talk to ur doctor some dont require there patients to stop smokin til the night before surgery (those are the lucky ones lol)...the only reason they want u 2 stop is for clear lungs and blood clots smoking stops blood from circulating (atleast that is what i was told)...well good luck keep us posted

    Surgery 3 days away....

My Sleeve date is the same as yours!! I am on day 3 of the liquid diet and pray for the strength to continue for the next 11 days!
  18. Hey all, For the most part I'm handling everything well. I'm keeping myself distracted but I really can't believe my surgery is this Friday. My biggest fear is that my cute angelic chubby cheek face will get saggy. I feel pretty silly thinking that...but it is a thought and I looked in the mirror this morning and had that common fear tingle all over my body. UGGGGG! I'm not worried about the surgery at all. I'm a surgery pro. Hubby was all worried last night that I would get skinny and hotter and leave him. I reassured him that he is the only man for me...but he is still afraid. :/ I'm freaking a little....but will be OK. I've been pleasantly plump my entire adult life. Since I put on the freshmen 30. I admit I am a little afraid of what being skinny will feel like and worry about the extra attention it will bring. In the past I have sabotaged myself because of all the attention. Have lost the same 30 lbs over an over and gained it back I didn't like the attention. Anyone else...need a buddy to help work through these similar thoughts as we start getting "skinny".
  19. Hola, I'm sitting in hospital now waiting to have my surgery in PV Mexico. I got weigh and I lost 10kg which I was very happy about. Good luck with you diet, The two weeks went really fast for me and thats saying something because I L O V E to eat and to eat JUNK FOOD. A Smile Prada.

    Gaseous First Fill....

I had my first fill yesterday since my surgery on 4-14-08, I started at 261 and now weigh 222. I lost that much without a fill, almost 8 weeks post op. Okay, the fill did not hurt one bit, better than I expected; however, I am burping up gas on my liquid diet, uncomfortable gas feeling in upper stomach. I will be on liquids 2 days and soft foods 1-2 days as well. Anyone else experience the gas after a fill? When does this sensation or uncomfortable feeling go away? I am keeping liquids down and plan on following the new diet to a Tee. I am thinking of drinking some hot liquids to se if it will help. Thanks for any comments.

    Head Hunger!

i had crazy head hunger issues! I was angry and agitated also, which caught me by surprise. I am now 3 months post-op and feel completely different. I can eat pretty much whatever I want but in small amounts. Know that the head hunger and cravings will pass and is a small sacrifice for the greater reward. Good luck!

    Hungry more?

Those that are working out at least 5x a week- do you find yourself hungrier more often? Not sure if normal or means I need a fill.

    Out of breath?

Hello All, Thank God, I have had no complications or any serious problems with my band, that's what keeps me motivated, well, at times haha. Anyway, I know I'm not in the best shape of my life but I never felt this way. I noticed that after my filling (3rd one) for the last 2 weeks, I have been out of breath easily, I get winded even going down the stairs. I don't get dizzy, or anything like that. Can it be due to the filling? Maybe because I'm not eating as much? I haven't been eating anything just crackers, cheese and Soup mostly. Does anyone else get like that after a filling? Thanks, Chris
