    Almost 3 weeks post op!

I too was sleeved on the 9th and since surgery I have lost 11lbs like you. I lost some on the pre op diet so I am happy with my total loss so far. What I am most pleased about is that I have broken the triple digit mark (I now weigh less than 100kg!! and am only in double digits - btw I live in Australia I know what you mean about being so busy, or maybe too busy, my kids are aged 10, 3 and 11 months. I only just went back to work today after surgery but cant complain having had such a good break/recovery. My 10 yr old and my biggest child (husband) have been super helpful, so that has taken the pressure off. But picking up my 3 yr is hard, he is too big and heavy so soon after surgery. I am a total shocker when it comes to the scales as I weigh daily - although there isnt a loss every day, it is consistently going down. The scale and I are friends now cos its going down as opposed to only ever going up. I think though, if you're experiencing incision pain, that's definitely a cue that you need to take it a little bit easier on yourself. Take care and all the best on your journey!
  2. Hi all. I had the sleeve on April 9th and I'm feeling great. My weight on the day of surgery was 233 and now I am 222. I've hit a stall for a few days so I hope that's just temporary!! I am a mom of two small children ages 19 months and 4.5 years. It has been going fine but I do find myself hungry beyond what my programs says to eat (only 1/4 cup 3x a day) so I have been adding in a few extra bites here and there if needed. I have pcos and have had it since I was 15 years old. I will be 34 this year! Lately some of my incision pain has returned and some back pain. It could be from my attempts to be super mom and I need to slow down. Life is busy though with little kids! Hoping to make a few buddies as we journey this crazy adventure together!

    suggestions on morning restriction

I have the same problem. I have to drink warm or hot liquids first thing. Then I can eat around 9 or 10 am. If I don't drink enough liquids I have trouble eating later too.
  4. Had my band to sleeve conversion on 10/20. Unfortunately I had a motorcycle accident five days before. So, although no broken bones, I was still allowed to have surgery with a very purple painful right side. Surgery went well, swallow test went well. Right now I'm still on liquids. The horrible stuff they gave me for my swallow test made me throw up and have some dry heaves. I told my doc that I was scared I might have weakened the staple line. He said it should be OK that it would take all day heaving to damage the staple line and sutures. I am having watery stools since the op. And some burning in my stomach after eating/drinking. Anyone else have that problem? OK now for the reason for the conversion. I had the lap band put in late 2004. In three years I lost sixty pounds. I am a 54 year old male who goes to the gym three times a week and does martial arts at least twice a week. I'm active and am not hindered by any severe physical ailments. Just the usual scoped knees, rotator cuff repair, etc. Based on what I ate and my activity level my docs and more importantly me, felt I should have lost 100lbs easy. We kept closing up the band until it got to the point where it was too tight and I had bad reflux and food was in my esophagus as much as in my stomach. Previous to that I had tremendous acid problems and was living on Protein pump inhibitors. I also contracted 13 ulcers and an h pylori infection. After visiting some different docs, including gastros, we all were convincing that the benefit of the band had reached its limit. I was one of those who hit a wall and the band was actually causing harm. Fast forward, Dr. John Sweeney at Emory Hospital in Atlanta did the surgery this past Monday and here I am on the forum on Friday. I'm 5 10 and around 265 now and I just want to get to around 200lbs. My main reason for weight loss is my diabetes. About six years ago I topped out at 378lbs and despite losing over a hundred pounds my diabetes has not been improved one bit. Very discouraging to say the least. I'm going to keep on going though, keep moving in the exercise dept and keep learning how to cook and eat more healthy utilizing a more fresh organic diet. I love Dr. Weil, Dr. Jordan Rubin and that crazy Gary Null. The only anxiety that I have about the sleeve at this point is staple line failure. Does anyone know whether you come to a point where if you haven't leaked by now you never will? __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com
  5. My surgeon is extremely strict, yet conservative. He firmly believes that you need to walk 60 minutes per day, starting the day after surgery. He is fine if you walk really slow and he's also fine breaking it up into 6 10 minute walks. The day after surgery I walked 20 minutes 3 times...after 3 days, I was walking 30 minutes, twice...I get bored walking so every day I break it up into 2 30 minute walking sessions. I have had quite a bit of success since April 3rd (down 40 lbs). Walking will not hurt your band, it will only help you get that gas out of your system and jump start your success...

    New Scale -- Uh Oh!

Thanks you guys! I'm going to weigh again tomorrow and see if there is still that big a difference. If it is only 1 lb different I won't change anything but if it's two or more I will. I do like my new scale and in the long run a few lbs isn't going to make that much of a difference. My old scale only measured in .5 lb increments and my new one goes to .10 lb. Increments. Now that I'm past the first month post op I am going to cut back from daily weigh ins to once or twice a week. So lesson learned for preops -- buy your nice scale before surgery so you can avoid disappointments down the road!

    Jewlery making

I was thinking the same thing! I plan on making me a silver bracelet with a round charm hanging off it for every 10 pounds I lose! I'm hoping to have 10 little charms on it to represent 100 pounds some day! This way it will always remind me where I can from.
  8. Well I had my surgery on a Wed and went back to work on the following Monday. I was walking a mile everyday by then so my pain was not all that bad by then. The tape on my insisions did not come off after two weeks (my Dr. said they could come off after 10 days so I waited an extra 4 days) and at that I used baby oil to soften the glue to get them off. I still have some pain where the port is but that is mostly because of the port being attached to the muscle wall and it needs to adjust to the attachment.

    NESTING PRE SURGERY

I have got through a bunch ( BUNCH) of clothes I keep in bins ( previous sizes ) and my closet which has clothes I wear That fits and some that are 10 lbs away that I cannot wear .... I got rid of three full bins of clothes I have always hated but kept hold of because I thought I needed them And then I washed all clothes from 28, 26 and 24 ( only favorites) and put them in my closet , ready ...... It was awesome . I cannot wait! It was better than thinking about eating or worrying about my 5 yr olds developing cough Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. And now, I'm ecstatic to be in my friend's hand-me-down size 12 jeans! American Eagle ones, which I would NEVER buy for myself. And they are not tooo tooo tight, they are comfy and on the looser side, so maybe a 10 soon? Size 10 is the smallest size I ever wore as an adult!! I am so glad I did this!

    Bikes

I have a Trek hybrid (like a cross between mountain bike and road bike). I have had it for maybe 10 years and I love it. I am not sure what the weight capacity is, but I would be very surprised if it would be a problem for you. It has the thicker tires and also a wide, comfy seat. While it wasn't the most expensive bike in the world (purchased at a good local bike store), if I had to do it over again, I would go to the bike stores to see what I liked best and then search Craigslist. The exact bike I bought was commonly seen on Craigslist for 1/4 of what we paid new, and in like new condition. A lot of people buy bikes and never use them and so sell them when they want to regain room in the garage, or when it is time to move. The same goes for bike accessories like vehicle racks. Now that the weather is good, it is a great time to ride. I hope you can find a comfy bike!

TIPS to get back on track!

I do two of the things mentioned above @GreenTealael mentioned, I try to stave off hunger by drinking fluids. Similar to @FluffyChix mentioned, I focus on my commitment to weight loss, and making one good choice at a time (choosing jerky over a brownie for instance) I also focus on my NSV, and how great those make me feel, crossing my legs without even thinking about it, wearing size 10 jeans, wearing size M shirts, easily fitting in an airplane seat, feeling sexy af, lol. This is vain, but I also think about the compliments I have received. It's one thing to think I look great, but it is affirming to hear others say it.
  17. I accompanied my daughter to Hospital Jerusalem and am now wondered how the rest of the group who we checked in with is doing, now that it's 4 months post op. South Carolina, Ontario, Oklahoma? You guy's out there? Washington state mom is thinking about you and wondering how things went once you got home. How are you adjusting to life with a sleeve? Also, Seattle from the recovery house...you out there?
  18. I am about 10 weeks post Op and have lost about 35 pounds. The last week I have eaten some things I shouldn't and I feel like I am failing at this whole thing, not just because of what I ate but because I feel like I should be further along and I can't see the weight loss on myself. I'm driving myself crazy. Anyone else struggling? Thanks.
  19. My doctor called me about 48 hours after I got my lap band plus had given me his number in case I had any issues and said to call. That was several years ago. When my lap band was removed in February 2017, my current doctors office called me the following day to check on me. I appreciate the follow up and think it is very thoughtful of them to do this as I know it can be time consuming. But let's face it, there might be little things going on that we don't think anything about and by asking you a couple questions and giving you an opportunity to tell them how you feel you very well could proactively catch any post op complications before they get worse rather than wait a few days until you are miserable enough for feel justified to call them to ask if XYZ is normal. Better to be proactive rather than just reactive. 🤗 Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

    just a question

I used to be able to eat an entire box of Kraft Mac and cheese in about 5 minutes. No sharing for me! I've eaten it maybe 3x since my surgery 3 1/2 yrs ago. I can eat about 6-10 bites and then I'm done. No problem with Pasta, just can't eat very much of it. I usually mix a little cheddar to it after mixing the powder. Makes it cheesier. Yummo! Marci
  21. Thank you everyone!! I'm finally post-op. Wasn't as bad as I imagined at all. I'm feeling pretty okay. Anesthesia has had he sleepy and groggy most of the day. In terms of pain, incision pain in minimal. Just feels like I did lots of push ups. Oh boy, but that has pain is a killer. It really hurts. Walking is the only solution. I've walked every chance I got and I'm going to continue to do that. Also, peeing every 10 minutes! Lol So happy I did this and I'm excited to start this new journey of my like. Thank you all for your kind words, well wishes and encouragement. [emoji173]
  22. I've noticed a lot of variance in what people have to do to get WLS. I've been in my program since September 2014, and my surgery is May 20. Some people have hardly any program time, and are scheduled for surgery in a couple months. I don't understand why it's so different. I wonder if there is any difference in end results. Or in ability to keep the weight off long term. I guess it made me a bit angry at first at how long I had to wait, and how much I had to do. But now I am grateful for the length of the program and process I have gone through. It gave me time to really consider what I was doing. But then again, my last dietary appointment my nutritionist told me she had a man in her office, a week after surgery, trying to eat shrimp. So maybe it makes no difference. I've had more time to really work on issues I have with food, with a therapist. (my own idea). It has also given me time to give up things I needed to, like smoking, caffeine, soda etc. It's been a long journey already, but I think it prepared me well. I have a 10 day liquid diet that I start on Monday. I believe that's going to help to ready me even more. The real reason for the long liquid diet is to shrink the liver, so the surgeon has more room to work. Perhaps not everyone needs that.
  23. Hi Guys....My name is Melisa and ive been a banster for 3 years now! Ive lost 70 lbs and have no regrets about getting the band! Ive gone from a size 20 to a 14 so far! My band was too tight a year ago and i had 1/4 cc taken out. i gained some weight from that so i just had some put back in. im hoping to get down to 150 or size 10! whichever comes first! I recently started walking so im hoping that will help too. My band is pretty tight again so i can mainly only eat soups comfortably. No big bulky foods! And that is good for me! Keeps me away from burgers and pizza as well as other bulky fattening foods!!! I will try to post some before and after pics soon. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Good luck banster friends! <3

    And so it begins!

did you get weighed already? You could add a few 10 lb ankle bracelets and take them off slowly
  25. My sister had gastric bypass surgery 10 Yeats ago and she told my that back then they didn't do the liquid diet pre-op. She said that it was a "last meal" diet. You weren't going to get to eat it anymore so this was your last chance to eat the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy with peach cobbler for dessert, etc.
