  1. Four days since surgery and I'm off to the races! Here are my starting stats: The day of my consult with Dr. Dunshee was 12/14/10: 300 Morning of Surgery (after a cruise and a 10 day pre-op diet): 292.4 Day after surgery (Dr. said gain of about 5 lbs. was expected): 294.5 Day 2: 293 Day 3: 289.5 Day 4: 286.8 I am so geeked!!!
  2. So i have recently been thinking about getting the gastric sleeve. My therapist is actually the one that recommended it to me. Just a little background, I am 5'4" currently 278 lbs ( i have recently gained a lot of weight after a breakup) I have hypothyroidism, and depression... currently on meds for both. I have an appt with the surgeon on Dec 19th, and there is a seminar on 12/9 that the receptionist said i should attend. I have Cigna insurance, i called and they do cover the surgery. I have been on and off WW for 4 years, in 2010 i lost 40lbs i cancelled for about a year, and then rejoined in August, but haven't been consistent with going to meetings or weighing in. I also did Medi Weight-Loss this year i signed up for 3 months, and went regularly for 2. I have all of the paperwork... and all of my bank statements. I have a question about the insurance would that be enough to show that i have tried? I have also done the skinny rules (bob harper's book) atkins, south beach, starvation, and every other diet known to man. My will power is great... but i can't seem to get below 215lbs. I am an emotional eater, i have been working on this for a long time... there is a lot of fear with giving up food, and there is a lot of guilt and shame around it. Anyway, i was wondering what you all did for your insurance requirements and how you deal with the emotional eating, before and after surgery? Thank you!
  3. I'm a new sleever looking for a mentor. I'll be sleeved 10/6/14. I'm going at this so blindly. I'm not sure which diet is the best. How to maximize weight loss and time. What kind of activities did you pick up? How did you get over your eating disorder?
  4. Just very curious about if you can keep losing Weight after reaching goal.
  5. Your doctor may be right because if it's too tight you will eat more slider type foods which equals slow or no weight loss. If he wants you to get a slight unfill then maybe you should test it out to see what happens...
  6. Thank you so much guys! I am very excited for my appointment on the 19th and will definitely keep everyone posted. I am worried about my insurance approval right now... hopefully i have enough documentation to prove that i have tried.. AND I HAVE TRIED! I have tried just about everything!!! I currently have 2 gym memberships WW membership and i am still enrolled with Medi weight loss. I have spent sooo much money on losing weight in the past decade, it is MIND BLOWING!!! Thank you all for responding to my post... I definitely need the positive feedback from everyone that has been through this!
  7. Been going to classes 2 more to go trying have surgery in June. But been trying to lose before the end of classes Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App
  8. Okay, I am a little over 6 months out. So far so good. I'm eating better, working out and making steady progress. I'm now healed up and I can physically handle any type of food. Also, my capacity has stabilized at about 8 oz or so. I am targeting 1,500 to 1,600 calories a day with 100g or less of carbs. My sense is that the surgery did most of its work in the first couple months and it is now on me. I still get full much faster than I used to pre-surgery, but I think that if I eat the wrong things I could gain weight at this point. So, my question is, how do you maintain the momentum? In the past I have always slipped into bad habits an put weight back on. The underlying food addiction is still there. It is lessened. I don't crave so hard. Also the restriction should keep helping. However, I am worried that I could slip back. What are the keys? How do you maintain the new lifestyle? I have a vague idea that once I hit a good healthy weight I will dial in a calorie target and then adhere pretty much forever. Maybe I won't log everything every day like I do now, but then again maybe I will have to. I don't know. I could use some insight.

    What Exercise Do You Suggest??

Your lower body has much more muscle mass than your torso. Lunges, squats, both with or without weights. Lay on the floor on each side and do side leg lifts, on your back and do leg lifts, on your stomach and do leg lifts to work your glutes. Add small weights to your legs if you can. If you can do 2 or 3 of these for 15 minutes, your heart rate will soar and you be strengthening all your muscles and, this will increase your metabolism for hours afterward. Go to youtube and look up Squats and lunges for women. There are so many videos to choose from. I find the lunges to be difficult so I use a small chair for balance. I have bad knees so I also have made some small changes to accommodate my bad joints. Good luck. tmf

    Helpful Hints for Success???

    1) Measure your portions RELIGIOUSLY(measure by volume, not weight), do not try to eyeball it early out. Stick with the recommended amount, no more regardless if you feel full or not. Eating until we're full got us fat in the first place. 2) Follow the post-op dietary guideline, and tweak it when necessary to do what works with your body. 3) Drink your fluids, eat your Protein, take your Vitamins 4) Move more when you can 5) Common sense will be your best friend through this journey The sleeve works. The lack of hunger (or decreased hunger that many experience) is fabulous, and that is what I contribute to a lot of my success and continued success in maintenance. I rarely exercised, and hate it. I'm not one of the workout, dopamine junky, I don't get that feel good feeling. It is nothing more than a chore to me, just like scrubbing a toilet in my mind. I know I need it, but I don't do it. You'll love the sleeve compared to the band.
  11. So quick update I just left my final NUT visit and my starting weight at the beginning of my program in May was 258. I gained 6 pounds by my August visit and they warned me that I needed to be under 258 by today's appt, because I have Aetna insurance and they wont approve me if I have a net gain. I followed through with my portion control and forced my way to the gym. Today's weigh in I am 254.5 pounds. So even if you do have mishaps and gain during your pre-op period just get back on track. Think about why you are doing this, and who you are doing this for. Maybe for yourself, your family, your future bikini . But make it up in your mind to stay focused no matter what the scale may say. We may get down but we are never defeated. I am proud of each and everyone of you guys. WOOOHHH HOOO Next Stop Pre Surgery Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.

    Worried about not losing weight

Sounds like you aren't doing anything wrong. You lost a massive amount in the first two weeks - seriously, then looks like you hit the dreaded 3rd week stall - do a search on here and you'll see just how common that first stall is. Stick with the plan you were given, stop stressing about the scale, and the weight will come off again. Weightloss is definitely not linear. You will not lose every week, some weeks you might even gain a pound or so but the overall trend over time will be downward.

    1 Month Check Up

I'm in the exact same spot! I've been the same weight for 2 weeks. Down 20lbs. Surgery was 5/2. It's frustrating.

    Anybody else losing slowly?

You actually appear to be on track. You don't have as much to lose as some of us, so it will probably come off a little slower in the beginning. Your body is also adjusting to having less calories. It wants to store some. Change up your routine at the gym. Make sure you are getting Protein and Water and avoiding sugar. The weight will come off, but it takes some time.
  15. Hi Everyone, I was sleeved in December, and am down 90 lb. (from 301 to 211). I am a teacher and off for the summer, and decided to clean out my closet. Well, I've packed away bags and bags of clothes, but I'm having a really hard time actually letting go of them. Every time I've lost weight in the past, I've ended up needing to buy the bigger clothes again. All I'm seeing is thousands of dollars in those bags... I am committed to sticking with this way of life long term, but something in me is making this really, really difficult. Anyone else feel like this?

    Babies?

this is something only you and him can really discuss. You need to know what you want and you need to discuss it. If you both want different things it will make a long term relationship very difficult. My soon to be ex husband one day told me he didn't want to have kids. He knew I did. If I had known he didn't want to have any I never would have married him in the first place do you really not want kids or are you just afraid of gaining weight? if it's just the weight, pregnancy is a temporary condition you know
  20. I lost a big chunk of weight in my two weeks pre op and my first 4 weeks after surgery. I started eating solid foods and the scale did not move for two weeks and I am actually gaining weight back. 3 pounds so far. Am not eating too many calories. Is my honey moon stage over???

    Losing hair/hope/everything but weight

You are averaging about 10 pounds per month, I think that's great! You have not failed. Like most have said, you may just need to tweek your eating plan to make sure you are getting enough calories, Protein and Water. Let your Bariatric team know what's going on...call them. I have noticed that sometimes family is the last to see our weight loss. In my case it seems to be people I see randomly, like the cashier at the grocery store or the dog groomer. Hang in there and be proud of what you have already accomplished!
  23. Friends, I am at the end of my rope and I truly need some help. I am 6 months out, having started at 370 (I'm 5'4). I've lost 60 pounds, and it's slowed to the point where I'm barely losing 4 pounds a month. I read several threads from people at my BMI having lost 100 + pounds in 6 months. In fact, almost EVERYONE with a high start weight like mine has lost more than 100+ in 6 months that I've seen. I have come to the conclusion that I have failed at this. I am eating 800 cals a day or so, getting my Water in, doing at least 40 minutes of exercise a day. HOW the heck have I screwed this up? Today I saw my family, and it was obvious that to them, I look exactly as I did a year ago. I am so heartbroken I've failed at this, as I have with everything else I've tried. Has anyone out there with a higher BMI lost as slowly as I have and still been successful in the long run? Please, tell me there's still hope.
