    Caffeine, Sugar, and Carbs

I really am working on not eating sugars because sugar is what has contributed to my past weight gain and diabetes. Sugar is addictive and you can eat a lot of foods really easy that are sugary. those foods are sliders. I choose to avoid sugars as much as possible and eat a wholesome diet focusing around proteins and veggies. I eat or drink anything with caffeine in them now either. i don't miss it either. My plan is to eat healthy and balanced, like the Paleo diet. I even choose to eat foods that are organic without pesticides and antibiotics put in them. Healthy only for me.... I really love this. A side note, I am not perfect and will occassionally eat something that is not organic when eating at friends houses and restaurants. I love my new life style.....
  3. I'm beyond excited for my upcoming surgery 7/21. I had a breast reduction 3 yrs ago and while they aren't breast augmentation perfect they pretty perky and I have been happy with the results. I'm curious if they will "deflate" and get saggy again after I start losing weight from my sleeve surgery. Anyone have any experience with this? And what were your results?

    Going Out to Eat Tonight

For those of you who are pre-op or newly post op, don't fear a lifetime of never, ever again being able to eat out. Tonight I am heading to a Mexican restaurant. I actually eat out fairly often. I will order something that I want to eat and I will really enjoy whatever I order. However, I will consider healthier alternatives. I won't need to eat a half of a basket of chips before my food even arrives. I lost 75 lbs within the first 5 months and my weight has pretty much found a set point at 145 lbs. I still have 20 more lbs to go to goal, but at 7 months out now, I have a lifetime left to get there. I have not lost any weight in the last 6 weeks an that is ok. There is no emergency rush to get to some point at light speed. It will be a lifetime of balance from now on. It is VERY doable with vsg. You CAN and will find a balance between being more mindful of food options and a normal lifestyle. Food funerals really aren't necessary. You will eat again You will enjoy food again. You may find that you have different preferences and that foods you previously were addicted to are no longer nearly as tempting.
  5. I haven't seen the scale move in one month exactly... what in the world is going on?? I have never experienced a stall like this... Any tips to get that scale moving again? Could this be the end of the losing pounds? I have lost 41lbs since surgery.

    Fruit....

I eat at least 3 servings of fruit a day. I do get my protein first, but Greek yogurt and an apple after a workout is the best! I also eat a lot of dried fruit--peaches, apricots, figs, plums. My weight-loss has not stalled since surgery this past August. Eight months out and going strong!
  7. Hello sleevers! My name is karla im 29 and a mommy of 3 amazing boys i started this journey last year around this time thinking i wanted gastric bypass so started the whole.requirements needed it took me around 5 months to have everything done but the surgeons office was so unprofessional nothing was ever done with my paper work so last december finally im schedule for last appt before "surgery" and submit to insurance the office calls me 2 days before the appt to tell me the surgeon left the group and that i needed to look for another surgeon or switch to another surgeon from the bariatric group they were so insensitive un professional there was no way i was gonna stay there so i found another doctor they have been so nice and and helpful of my situation but to this day im.still waiting always abump.on the road im frustrated ,tired ,depressed and thinking is this meant to be? Should i kepp insisting on doing this? last i heard last week was that finally are submitting to insurance well see i gained all the weight that i.lost a year ago in my nut visits starting to loose again on my own but no motivation any advice? i appreciate your input thanks
  8. I would love to post a positive, nice post once in a while but at this time I apologize because all you guys have read from me are complaints and frustration. I am 5 weeks 3 days post op and boy have I had a rough time. At first of course its rough for most of us.. I started doing better and then during soft foods I became sick again. (Hint: my horrible gais pain post.. lol.. it really was bad!).. After going to the hospital and visiting with my Dr I was assured I would be fine.. 2 weeks later and I'm still here. In these two weeks I called/emailed my doctor constantly to see what else I could do. I pretty much ate just a few ounces of food a day and drank as little as I could to avoid throwing up like crazy. Of course dehydration happened again. I visited with my GI doctor who changed my medicine for acid reflux to something stronger and also got new nausea pills.. Didnt work. BUT at least he tried to help.. I called doctor, surgeon, and asked which doctor was I supposed to be seeing because I felt like I was being ignored and my GI doctor at least tried to help by giving me stronger meds but I felt the surgeon should be the one helping me figure out what's wrong with me. I had 4wks off from work and my doctor's nurse practitioner did not take my complaints seriously all this time until this week which is the the week I went back to work. So of course scheduling is crazy! I have a full time job and its hard to just leave everyone hanging at work and mess up everyone's schedule! They did blood wrk on Tuesday and I'm now sitting at the hospital again to have a swallow test done. My appointment was at 8am it is now 10:35am and I'm still waiting.. the doctor never faxed the order. I even had to go pick that up because they couldn't fax that to the hospital for me! I knew there would be possible complications, but I feel like I'm alone. My husband tries to understand, and like he says I did this for a greater good.. My PCOS got really bad and this could potentially help us, a lot! That's why I did it. I want a baby.. and plus I thought it could help me health wise.. I can't help but wonder if I made the right desicion. The other day I even told my husband "we should have just adopted.." and when I said that I felt like I had given up.. which is so not like me.. I wish I could be like all the lucky ones who have no problems at all.. I'm emotional, I feel very dissappointed, sad, angry at my dr, I'm hungry, thirsty, upset, tired, concerned, I didnt lose any weight last week, I have gained 2 lbs this week I have no idea why, and I'm even constipated, (I know, tmi.. sorry!), but even that is soo not me.. I used to go to the restroom so much! If this is the new me, I don't like it.. Thank you for letting me vent.. And sorry I vent so much.. lol..
  9. HW: 312 SW: 300 Weight Day before Surgery: 289 GW: 150 I had Gastric Sleeve back in 2014 then got pregnant almost a year later and just did the Traditional Duodenal Switch 4 days ago. Day 2 was a little scary after eating 2 pieces of Jell-O and half of a Sugar free Popsicle I ended up throwing up 6 times but in very small portions and some blood came out as well. Did some testing after and it wasn't anything major just has to stop eating and stick to liquids a couple more days before trying anything else from Phase 1. I was supposed to go home yesterday but Dr kept me an extra day to see how I did with Phase 1 continuation and see if my white blood count came back ok cause it was slightly elevated after surgery which is normal. Blood work came back and I'm all good to go home! Yay! So my journey begins. Anyway else recently here did the Traditional Duodenal Switch in the past 3 months, how are you feeling and doing now? 10. I am 15 weeks out too (sleeve surgery Oct 3rd) and I am down 44 pounds. I would say you are right on target. At least I think I am on target. 40 pounds in 15 weeks is approximately 2.66 pounds per week. That is normal, healthy weight loss. I have always been a slow loser too, but I don't worry about the amount of weight loss everyweek, just that I am losing and not gaining. I have never been a binge eater; however, I used to take in the largest majority of my calories in the evening and I (like you) find myself eating all day now (stoking the metabolism fire). Good Luck to you! Keep us all posted on your progress.

    Sleeved 3/4/14

you may be gaining muscle and since muscle weighs more than fat, its not showing up as weight loss. The fact that you are exercising is great because ultimately, that's the key.
  12. Don't know why, but since my surgery I'm drinking more coffee than I ever have before. Doesn't seem to be slowing my weight loss, but maybe that's because I drink at least 72 oz of other fluids every day as well. (Glub, Glub!)

5 months of success, and creeping aggravations.

@@RoscoColetrain It is easy to get let how far you have to go still cloud the success of how far you have came. All I keep thinking about are these last 50-60 pounds I want to lose so I can have plastics and I don't think that I have lost a whole entire adult person in less than a year without feeling miserable. Just take their compliments in stride and don't internalize them. Most fat people are never successful at losing weight, so when people do lose weight it is amazing to people around them.

    Port location

i was told that it would be right under my chest because that was the thickest part of the stomach. also because the more weight you loose, your port can move and they will have to go back in and fix it. my doc told me that he would put it under my chest because when i loose weight my port will stay put!

  16. Like many of you I have been through it all in the way of diets and better eating. And every single time I would be dieting or trying to lose weight, people would always say stuff like...."just eat more fruits and whole wheat/grains, beans, brown rice, etc". Ya know, things that most people substitute for other unhealthy foods. Problem is, for ME those items ALWAYS made me stall or even gain weight!!! I could never have them! My hope is that once I have the surgery I WILL be able to have items like that again occasionally and actually be able to still lose weight or maintain, depending on where I am along in the process, but NOT GAIN! I always missed those things when dieting. Have any of you experienced this? Were they no-no items for you too BEFORE surgery? Could you eat them again, like most normal people, once you had the surgery?

    high BMI's

Hi Christina, Our stats are similar. I'm 26 and 5'6 with HW being 293. I had surgery 4/1 and my total weight loss has been 50 pounds. Unlike you, I'm more bottom heavy. I have a little bit of a belly but nothing some clothes couldn't hide. My problem areas are mainly my legs and my butt. I've been at a stall for the past week or so so I'm hoping once I break the stall more weight will fall off. My exercise regimen has been okay. Since I'm more bottom heavy, I have pain in my hips which makes walking for long periods of time really painful. I did walk a lot when I first got out of surgery. I was wheeled into recovery at 11am and by noon I was already walking around. I walked at least 10 minutes every hour (even at night - couldn't sleep). Now, I'm comfortable walking for maybe 30 minutes until the pain starts to creep back up. I follow up with a swim or resistance exercises with weights or abs. Let me know if you have anymore questions

    Thighs Touching

A lot of women's thighs touch, even at a healthy weight.
  19. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and general anxiety disorder 7 years ago. I gained so much weight from meds, that gastric bypass was my best option. Even though I found a great cocktail of meds now, I still had some issues with anxiety after surgery. I just continue with my meds and see my therapist once a week. She really helps me with my eating issues, and that I need to make sure to look at food as fuel. I use to constantly eat my emotions. It has really helped. Hang in there, and feel free to chat with me anytime about how you're feeling.
  20. I'm about to be 3 months post op and have lost 45 lbs. I'm very happy with my weight loss but I've hit my second stall. I'm already going on 2 weeks without losing. Is this normal at this point?

    I ate a lot today!

Ms. Lady - I suffer from migraines as well - many!!! Anywhere from 9 - 12 per month. They have not gotten worse since surgery. When I was on liquids only, when I was eating just a few TB's at a time, I was worried, but I went two weeks without a headache at all!!! I was shocked, that hasn't happened in years! I am certain it was because many of my migraines are triggered by foods. Some I know and many I do not!! I personally HOPE my hunger does not return and I continue to be satisfied with very little!!!! I obsess - WORRY that I will begin to eat more, therefore have to "cut back" to keep from gaining!!! Right now, maintaining is EASY, not to continue to lose is the hardest part!!! LoL
  22. Bad advice...They are experienced in detecting deception. I was open and honest about being treated, with success, for years. I let him know I have a very regular and close relationship with my providers and follow their treatment plan. He said he was comfortable because I was being treated and knew to seek help if the depression worsened. The psych forms I was asked to complete asked for history of medications. Since the psychiatrist will be in contact with the weight loss team, I wouldn't take that risk. So many of use that struggle with weight also have depression so it isn't anything new to the psychiatrist. I told him that I believe weight loss might help and he agreed. I asked him when & why he has denied someone. He told me only once has he denied someone and it was because they admitted to him suicidal thoughts, seeing bugs on the wall and not getting treated. I hope this helps!
  23. Me too to Terry and Sharpie. Lost, probably, 1000 lbs in my lifetime, but gained it back! Best wishes, I would never want to dissuade you from your own decision. 66 lbs is amazing in 6 months. Woohoo!

    Insights 3-1/2 weeks post-surgery....your thoughts?

I'm an October 11th bandit too! I can relate to all of the above! I had my first fill appt yesterday but because of the 21lbs I have lost we decided to hold off on a fill until 12/7. I'm still satisfied with 1c food every 3.5-4hours. I'm on mushies until next Monday then I can begin soft solids. Yesterday's weight was 177.4!! I haven't been below the 190s in ten years!
