  1. I had a HUGE NSV this weekend, I rode roller coasters without having to get off due to my size and without be smooshed into the restraints. I have worked at this park for several years and have only been able to ride a couple of the big coasters due to my size so I finally got to enjoy them for the first time since high school! Also, a fun perk of having gastric bypass, I don't get that stomach dropping feeling going down the big drops like before surgery! My daughter and I were running from coaster to coaster trying to get on as many as possible, I had so much fun!
  2. Complications do happen but usually they are not as extreme as Ana and I have gone through. there is always a possibility of complications. But they are not common at all. When I went to my last appointment before my surgery my surgeon wanted me to know that I could die from this surgery because every surgery is a risk. Having your teeth removed is a risk. Since i was not living before I did not see the need to worry about it. Even when I almost did die. I felt the step was the right one for me because if I did live it would give me a chance to really live and that was what I wanted most of all. It is good to weigh the pros and cons regarding this surgery. Be sure you are willing to take the risks... You may and probably will be one that sails right through it. But me, I have no regrets about it at all. As far as the surgery and complications went. the changes in my life were the scariest for me....They still hurt quite a bit and I still cry about my so called friends....But I am moving forward and actually loving all the NSV I experience...... I think even though for me it was good, bad and ugly. I would do it again! I mean that too.....I am a live now I was not before the surgery...Too much pain. Could not walk far. Lower back issues. High blood pressure. and so on!

    NSV - Non-scale Victories

That's great julie.ann My NSV - I cleaned out my closet. I took five bags of too big clothes to Goodwill, and brought out the box of clothes I put away years ago. When I started this journey I was just barely in a 24 - barely at the top end - the laying down to zip my pants kind 'cuz no way was I going to admit I was really a 26. I am now squarely in a 20! Another NSV - I actually look at myself in the mirror in the morning. If it is possible for a person to put on make-up without ever really focusing on how they look - that's what I was doing. I couldn't stand to look at myself. Now, I do. And I'm actually liking what I see.

    NSV!

Yesterday I had to get an ultrasound and xray done of my abdomen. They gave me a hospital gown and told me change and wait in the waiting room. I looked at that gown and thought no way would it fit me! Well it did! And it covered me completely! There was a full length mirror in the bathroom and I looked so much smaller! I need to buy one for my home haha!
  6. Hi there Marienola, Welcome to the forum. I'm sure that you'll find lots of positive encouragement here, as well as information. I'm approaching the end of my weight loss journey with my last target being six pounds away. During the journey I've been through a range of emotions but I've always tried to stay positive. You'll find that sometimes you hit a plateau that can be difficult to deal with, but with time and work from you the weight will come off, along with other medical issues being dealt with along the way. Give yourself a reasonable time scale to lose the weight. I gave myself a year. You'll probably lose a lot of weight quickly at the beginning, then it tapers off. Did I mention stay positive? You'll also have NSVs (Non Scale Victories) along the way. Mine had a lot to do with clothes fitting, dropping sizes, people saying how good I looked... I'm sure you'll have those too. Take loads of photos! Good luck with your weight loss journey.

If your a1c is too high?

I have Kaiser and in order to have the surgery, they wanted my A1c done to 5.99. Well, it wasn't down but with some diet changes, my A1C did drop some and I had the surgery. It is normal for our blood sugar to spike after the trauma of surgery and that was the first time I've ever had insulin injections. After day 3, no more insulin was needed and my blood sugar was normal. Yayyyyyyyy! That was my first NSV.

    Two Weeks Post Op today!

Great NSV!! You also had great scale victory also!! you are right to never be disappointed a loss is a loss... and Im so very happy for you. Stay positive and it will all fall in to place!
  9. So, yesterday I was doing my laundry (yes, ladies, some married men do their own) and while I was picking some up out of the basket, my wedding ring fell off my finger. It didn't get pulled off; it just fell off. So, now I have a new errand of getting my ring resized. That is a great errand to have. :woot:
  10. I agree with Leslie, it probably has more to do with body type than actual size. However, I'm currently in a 16 and I can cross them comfortably and sit like that for a while. I can't wait until I can actually hook that top leg behind the bottom leg when crossed. That's when I'll know I've arrived!! Ha! I'm also enjoying feeling the bones in my wrists, jaw, and collar bones. It just makes me feel more feminine. It's the small things like these NSVs that make me happiest about loosing weight. Good luck to us all!!!

    17 months Postoperative

Fellow NYer here! It's great to hear stories of success like this. Great job! I can't even remember the last time I was on a bicycle...I would have to say it's one of my NSV goals. I'll be 42 this November, then surgery is planned for December. I'm looking forward to a healthier new me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App

    Merry Christmas To Me!

Great NSV! That's why I always say TRY IT ON. As we take off the weight it takes awhile for the brain to catch up. Just holding up a clothing item and trying to judge if it will fit does not work well. Good for you! I had a "Merry Christmas to Me" moment myself ........ I was in ROSS doing a bit of Christmas shopping on the 23rd and found a $10 laying on the floor! Not an NSV, but for sure a "Merry Christmas".
  13. I'm doing good. I've lost 27 lbs. Slow loser, but it's a lost. The entire month of November I stalled. I was so happy when the scale moved. Be prepared for the stalls. Focus on the NSV's during the stall. You will lose inches even though the scale doesn't move.

My husband throws out one of his millions hot momma comments and i'm like ok yeah right. and my 9 year old son says, " But MOM you are PRETTY HOT you know!" I'm like Joey you don't even know what HOT means. He says "Yeah, like the Divas on WWE! You are starting to look like them now that you are losing weight and you are HOT!!" How cool is that my 9 year old thinks I'M HOT!!! Patti

    NSV!

Today I got out of the shower and a regular sized wrapped completely around my body AND i still had room left over! I've been a slow loser and today I barely hit the 30 lb weight loss mark (7 weeks post op) but its the little things that make it all worth it!! Wooo hooo!

    Thigh Lift: Worth It?

I had the lower body lift (which--as I am sure you know--lifts the outer thigh) in conjunction with the vertical lift. The cut made to lift the outer thigh, is right along the line of an extended tummy tuck, so I think it would go right along with your existing scar. The vertical cuts are right along the groin line. I really love my results, but I did go into it knowing that no matter how tight the doctor pulled on those thighs--especially the outer part--I knew that they would relax some. At 7 weeks post op I went on vacation. Walked around a Water park with the kids, hung out on the beach, walked the beach...no problems. My thighs look much better, I love them and I am even going to hit the beach this spring without a cover up for my legs. Here is a link to the pic that I posted. It shows my thighs. It is not a quality pic, but it is all I have for now. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/360777-nsv-wearing-a-bikini-with-no-coverup-finally/
  22. So I've recently been hired for a new job. As part of the "Welcome Kit", this company sends new employees a company T-shirt. They sent a size medium and in the past, I would have known there was NOTHING I could do with a medium T-shirt except maybe hang it up and look at it. It would have been just another one of those small indignities that you have to live with when you are bigger than the rest of the world. But today, the T-shirt fits perfectly and I'm starting off my new job without a reminder that I'm different from everyone else. How sweet it is!
