    What to eat?? Losing hope

Okay..so I got the surgery done June 9th....I have lost about 11lbs since then. I know weight loss is super slow but hey iths something. I have been doing zumba about 3-4 times a week, counting calories (about 1200 a day), and I have 8.3 in my band. I was wondering of someone would like to share their blog or food diary to see what I'm doing wrong. If i eat slow enough and take small bites, it can go eat with no problem and feel full faster...but not exactly feel full longer...what am I doing wrong??? Any type of help would be greatly appreciated. p.s. Has anyone gone through a slow weight loss but finally it's turned around?? I need some hope ....also has anyones Dr' prescribed any diet pills with Lapband?

    1 Week Stall - What?

I hope you can get your $$$$$ back! LOL Your body is hanging on to Water and will release really soon. You didn't put the weight on in 2 weeks so it will take a while to get it off. I know it is frustrating and we have all been there. But, I want to do it different now, I want to enjoy where I'm at today. I like my new energy level and I like to take my new body out. I enjoy knowing that I'm only going to buy cute cloths now, not what ever I can find. I'm looking forward to teasing my DH. You will loose a lot more weight trust me. You can't go back so it's a great ideal to move forward. Can't wait to see pictures of you down the road with a beautiful smile on your face.
  4. I live in Tallahassee, Florida and for my authorization I needed to visit a pulmonologist. Tallahassee Pulmonary lost my referral 3 times before offering me an appointment in March (my surgery is in December so... yeah) . My surgeons office, being the super awesome folks they are, were able to get me an appointment with a pulmonologist at Shands in Gainesville (about 2 hours and 15 minutes from my house). Not a bad drive and Shands has a wonderful reputation. I went and the people were extremely nice and thorough with the tests. I think that emptying my lungs until almost passing out has been my least favorite pre-op test! I'd take the camera being shoved down my throat over that lol. Anyway, other than the normal discomfort... it was fine. Until I met with the actual pulmonologist. I don't have her name here with me but she really pissed me off. She looked at my results, and said that I had better lung function and capacity than the average person. Great, right? Then she asked why I was having these tests. I told her I was having a gastric sleeve. Her face changed (this is a doctor, a specialist, a medical professional). Then she asked... "Haven't you ever just tried not eating so many carbs?" What the literal... efffffffff. I know that I gave her a cross between a side eye and stink eye and I replied, "No. That had never crossed my mind in the 30 years of being overweight. I just thought that going under and having someone cut out a part of my body sounded super fun!". Folks, she didn't say it with good intentions. It was said in a very accusatory, rude tone. I responded by having my words drip with sarcasm. I ten went on and had to educate this doctor on the fact that this is not a quick fix, and explained the surgery. She didn't know really what it even was... which in itself is fine because it's not her specialty. But really... telling me that I should just stop eating carbs to cure my weight problems?? Ugh. Anyway, my surgery has been approved and I am scheduled for December 27. Just wanted to rant a bit here.

    1 Week Stall - What?

I was doing well my first 2 weeks with the weight loss. Then the infamous stall hit me at the beginning of the third week. I was the same weight for 10 days and thought I would never lose weight again. Now week 14 I am 45 pounds down. Don't worry, you are gonna hit stalls. I find that I won't lose for a week, then all of a sudden I will lose 2-3 pounds another week.

Pre-Op diet to lose 5-10 pds

That is weird. My surgeon said the 2 week liquid diet was to shrink the liver to allow easier access to the stomach. Good luck with the weight loss and am looking forward to hearing great things after your surgery. Best advice, get up and walk as soon as possible. It will really help with the gas pressure in your back.

4 months out and weight gain

Girl I'm 4 months out too. Surgery was on 12/2/14. I haven't lost any weight in a month. I'm about to lose my mind. I'm working out 3 to 4 days a week and still not jumping pounds.

    Hurtful family member (off topic)

She is who she is. this is not off topic because it is affecting you and your progress. While we love those in our lives we reach a point that we are no longer going to take this kind of abuse anymore. This girl needs help not you. Somewhere a long the lines she has felt that she comes first in all things. You really need to not give her that power anymore and ride it out. Everyone has that kind of person somewhere in their lives...My mother a few weeks ago decided that it was no longer a good idea for me to ever call her again. she did this because of a minor choice I made and she took it as personal...Fine...I am done. I have reached my limit of abuse. I know that she is incapable of love and so there fore I expect nothing from her.. You will have to come to grips with the same conclusion. And realize that love has nothing to do with this. It is not you or her grandmother this is her. She must change and you must keep going... Your weight loss will stall if you don't eat...please look after yourself no matter how painful this is....The grandmother needs your love...Since you have some time to spare now...Give her the extra time and attention and work to figure out how to deal with this....Don't expect her to see it your way.....You have to live around it or plow right through it......

    Why I Stay Here

I'll be 6 years in a few weeks....110% successful, never had any problems. Good restriction, portion sizes limited. Hunger and cravings next to nonexistent. Certain foods I cannot eat, others I gave up intentionally...so it's all good. Exercise regularly, struggle at first to be motivated but after seeing results it became more and more of a habit. I do not believe in Maintenance, I do today what I did last year, and the year before that and the year before that. It is a new way of living that has developed...not a diet. I have no fear of gaining any weight back as long as my band remains constant. It has gotten to the point that WLS is old news, most people don't remember when I was obese, and new people will never know. Don't think about it all that much anymore, go about my daily routine. Same as it ever was. I enjoy things that people here turn into hot topics.... So you see, being successful makes me an odd ball...someone who does not fit in on this forum. And people have been critical of my success even though it is first-hand life experience. Can't possibly be true...it's only a tool! A concept I do not belive in...wait for it,...see what I mean??? They are all newbies and we are worlds apart. There is simply nothing for me here...I come around just for the reading entertainment and every now and then, like now, I put my 2 cents in for whats it worth. There were many, many people who were here when I first came..it was called the "Lapband Forum" then. I followed their success, and they too, like me, found nothing here for them anymore so they moved on. Imagine this was a website for people just getting started driving a car...lots of good discussion on how to get started, hints and tricks to get it right, and some frustrations and fear of failure... Parallel parking can be tough....and yes people have car accidents. Even veterans. But after you have been driving for a few years...whats the point of staying here? Time to move on.
  12. I told everyone who would listen! Even my crazy weirded out mother who has me dead and buried already! hehehe. . . in the beginning it's different (before the surgery) then I didn't tell anyone except my husband and daughter. . . they needed to know. . .the reason i didn't was because of the "advice" people think they can give you. . . very very negative. . . but after the surgery, heck it was done already and there is totally NO turning back, so whatever. . . those who did the "you could have done it on your own" got the "really, that is why I was so thin in the first place right" lecture right back from me. . . that usually shut them up. . .now i'm 5 months out and it's boring to talk about it, so when people who don't know i've had the surgery say "wow you've lost alot of weight, how did you do it" I just say "the normal way how else" and leave it at that. . . I still see myself as a very heavy person, my best friends, who know about the WLS, say "your head hasn't caught up with your body yet" . . .but the lectures do eventually stop and people carry on with their lives, it doesn't go on for ever I promise. . . just in the beginning before surgery i wouldn't tell too many folks, after that who cares! Good luck and your going to do just fine!

    The "D" word

Dumping is often the result of eating foods with too much sugar but it can also be the result of eating carbs (for example white rice). Although decidedly unpleasant, dumping is seldom serious and rarely requires medical attention. It's also important to remember that many bypass patients never experience dumping. It's a mistake to count on dumping as a benefit of bypass since it may never occur. From a weight loss standpoint it makes no difference. There is no scientific evidence that patients who dump are any more or less successful than those who don't. For folks who experience dumping, about two-thirds experience early dumping. Early dumping usually occurs twenty to thirty minutes following eating. The remaining one third experience late dumping which usually occurs two to three hours following eating but can occur twelve hours or more later. Late dumping is usually reactive hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and symptoms can usually be resolved quickly by eating just about anything that contains sugar. I seldom dump but when I do it's late dumping. In my case, white rice and popcorn are definitely off the menu options. The list of things that might result in dumping would be pretty long. But probably of little value anyway on an individual basis. Person A dumps on "X" every time while person B has no trouble at all with "X" but dumps on "Y", and person C doesn't dump on anything.. Regardless of whether you dump or not, you're gonna love the new you!!

    Still Frustrated

 Monday was my 8-Month Banded Anniversary and I have only lost the 40 lbs I lost the first two months. We leave for Disney on Saturday and when the weight was just dropping off in April & May I thought I would have lost at least 80 lbs by now. But nooooo, I am now fighting with the same old food addictions and head-hunger I had before I was banded--except now of course usually what goes down comes right back up . And according to Dr. Morton if I don't chew until my teeth fall out and only eat 1/2 cup three times a day, this will be my lot for the rest of my life--my FAT life  Before surg I thought I had read or asked everything there was to read or ask. However, I must have missed the part that even though you will have a terrible problem eating healthy foods you will have no problem at all eating unhealthy foods . In my innocence, I understood that I wouldn't be able eat a lot of anything, and could only eat a very small portion of everything--thus the will-not-have-to-rely-on-willpower fallacy :wink2:. At this point I could really lose my religion and have a real cuss feast :cursing:, but I must be too sleepy this morning to really rant. I know banding works, so I lay the fault solely at my feet! What can I do to get back on the losing road!! Hopefully my appt with Dr. M (the next week after Disney) will help--although the sarcasm I encountered on my last visit has really had the opposite effect--I operate much better with encouragement rather than sarcasm and disgusted looks--which to be fair did not come from Dr. M, but from his nurse . My constant problem is with more fill I can hardly get my meds down--but that also leaves me without enough restriction. But I think I will opt for the larger fill and just do the best I can with my meds--I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to let all this pain and expense be for nothing . If God is for me who can stand against me . Hey, they're right--journaling does help . So get thee behind me satan and take your Dove Chocolate with you!!!

    thanx to all

I wish to thank you all for your inspiring comments and helpful information. i can see that i am gonna spend hours on this site reading all your comments. i am researching into this lap band process, would love to hear from people in australia who have had this done, as well as other parts of the world. i have made the decision to do this....recently having a health scare has done its job and scared me into seriously losing weight.....and as i have a LOT of weight to lose and like all have tried everything under the sun to try to lose it ...i only pray that this is indeed the answer for me as it has been for many of you ....even reading all the setbacks etc is very helpful...gives me a more realistic picture of what to expect than just out of some medical text book etc.... so i hope to have may comments to say (after all i is a woman and that hard to keep quiet at the best of times) hahahaahahah please feel free to add anything to these comments....... wishing you all well in your achievements of losing weight.....and continueing to read all your inspiring comments.....once again thanks from the fat chick in oz hahahaahahah

    Regaining weight, help!!

That depends on what surgery you had, which I don't see you have listed. With my BPD-DS I am supposed to, but I haven't been all that good about doing so and haven't had any ill effects. I believe its suggested that bypass patients take vitamins regularly. I didn't think it was as important for the gastric sleeve since that is not a malabsorption procedure. Did you doctor ever advise you about vitamin supplements? I had my surgery in Aug 2018 and lost over 100% of my excess weight, but I regained about 30 pounds from a (too low) 133 pounds in 2020. Even with that was still below 25 BMI. My fault, too many sweets and high carb processed junk food. Still have good restriction, and I've lost 10 of that 30 pounds so far in less than a month eating mostly salads with custom no-oil vinaigrettes, and lean meat and veg dinners. My preferred proteins have been tilapia and premier protein shakes. If I get hungry between meals I'll have an apple, which fills me pretty well.
  21. I'm almost 2 years post surgery and never hit my goal weight. I didn't have that much to lose, weight before surgery - 190, 5"4 but I only got down to 140. Covid has hit, I'm a bit blue and I'm up 15 pounds. I'm disgusted with myself. I'm going back to protein shakes in morning, any suggestions? I've continued to take bariatric multivitamins, do I need to continue for the rest of my life? What kind of protein do you eat on a daily basis? I can only eat so much chicken and eggs. I need some variety. I have no energy and probably down due to the pandemic. What are you doing to stay motivated? Thanks!

Anybody not get a tummy tuck?

I was 150lbs overweight.. I carry most my weight upper body. My stomach was pretty huge before I started, it's shrinking now, but I can't decide if the last of the rolls I see is skin or still weight I'm going to lose. It is all puckered and weird looking, but.. I don't see me getting plastic surgery for it at this point. I can easily tuck it under my underwear/pants, and I don't feel I have to show my belly to anyone. I do plan to have kids too, so if I do decide on it, it's still years away post-children. If I don't look majorly deformed or have a large pannic hanging down (and it looks like I won't, I think it would have formed by now), I won't be getting a TT.

    I am over it.

So I haven’t told many people about me going through the process to have WLS my surgery is scheduled for July 3rd and I just don’t particularly care to hear about others opinions on it at this point in my journey. Well today I find out my grandmother is going around telling EVERYONE who will listen about me having the surgery. I. AM. PISSED. I didn’t even tell her about it so someone else apparently needed to share information about it as well. Now all I’ve heard all day is how I don’t need the surgery and how I don’t even look “big” enough to have the surgery. I’m 5’3 and weighed 250 lbs at the beginning of my pre-surgery weight loss. That is medically considered obese. I’m so frustrated right now and I just don’t know what to do about this situation. I can’t necessarily tell my grandmother to STFU lol. I tried telling her I wasn’t okay with her sharing that information but it didn’t phase her at all. I’m seriously going to lose it if I hear one more time that I’m being stupid or making a huge mistake. I don’t need the negativity when I’m this close to surgery.
