Anyone go to hospital alone?
Arabesque replied to loridee11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lovely friend took me to the hospital and stayed until I was taken to start the pre surgical processes. My bag was taken from me at this point & was in my room after the surgery. My doctor said he would keep me in a second night because I lived alone but I stayed a third night as I suffered terrible back spasms. My friend picked me up when I was discharged. I slept most of the time in hospital after surgery (except when I was in pain from my back 😩) - couldn’t seem to concentrate to read, watch Netflix or make conversation with visitors so being alone wasn’t an issue. I made sure I had all my protein shakes, clear broths, etc. and non prescription medications all set to go before I went to hospital so I wouldn’t have to go out or get people to go shopping for me for two weeks post surgery. Good luck. -
1 year post op - how much are you eating?
kimbernada replied to bkz3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm eating about a cup of food at a sitting - with about 1000-1200 calories total for the day. EXCEPT for this past week - we had to say goodbye to our 14 yr old schnauzer last Friday. I've done a little stress/emotional eating, but not totally out of control AND it's easing up now - as I know we made the right decision, etc. Anyhow, I still have a protein shake every morning to bump up the protein total. It's about 40 grams of protein. That gives me a little leeway the rest of the day for hitting my 80 gram minimum for protein. I think the biggest thing is to get back to journaling your food intake daily. I know it isn't exactly fun, but it will get you back on track or at least really pinpoint what you can work on, etc. -
I can't do shakes either. They make me sick so my dietician and nurse told me yesterday that I can quit them. I am only week 3 so I was shocked. However, they told me I needed to drink 500mL Fairlife high protein milk daily instead. Have you spoken to your NUT about it? If you can stomach the milk, I would definitely up that to help fluids too. It's hard!! But my dietician said if I am getting minimum 1.5L of fluids a day, that is a great start and just keep trying to outdo my previous day by a bit every day. Also, I can not get in my fluids if there isn't ice in it. Have you tried different temperatures? Room temp, ice cold, heated up (herbal or decaf tea). I never could handle ice prior to surgery, so it is weird but things change.

This has been a very long journey for me. Over a year ago I decided to do the surgery. I have waited and waited and now we are a little over a week a way. I start my liquid diet next Friday and my surgery is on April 4. So many emotions right now!

Lisa65 replied to nesser081982's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nesser, I am also scheduled for the 29th. I'm happy to find someone with the same band date as me! My surgeon requires a 2 week Medifast pre-op diet. I go for my Nutrition class and pre-op testing on April 10th. I'm guessing I will start the diet after that. -
I would like to share my experience with you all so you can learn from my mistake. Ive been banded for 7 weeks and initially lost 14lbs on the liquid stage after surgury and was having problem after that. I was working out like a horse - 1 hour at the gym with and average heart rate of 145 but I was also consuming and experimenting with foods. I started going for fills and .5 cc at a time - I already had 6cc put in at surgery. I got .5 cc didnt really do much I was even able to eat bread. Then I got another .5 cc and I was suppose to be on liquids and shakes but because I was able to eat the last fill right away I decided to have a piece of tofu...just one lil piece well I got stuck....and started vomiting. So much that I slipped my band. It was so horrible, painful, emotional, embarassing...please listen to your doctors and dietians. Its not worth the pain or the $$$ this will probably end up costing me. I had to go through surgury all over again. But I still have my band will this time I am sure it will be different. Please be careful all and if you feel like you are going to vomit (more than the just being stuck) CALL YOUR DOC, and dont take no for an answer!!!! My NP told me to meet her in the office at 9am after calling at 8pm and then again at 3:30am! I might not have slipped if she met me at the hospital. But I will take ownership of my own mistake and dont want this to happen to anyone!

I am now 2 days post op and all is well except for this crummy GAS!!! I have been walking and moving and just about anything to relieve it. My incisions hurt some, but it's not that bad. Now I have to get thru 2 weeks of a liquid diet w/protein shakes. FUN! I am looking forward to mushies...

Up until 3 weeks ago I was convinced I wanted the lap band. I met the HAPPIEST lady ever when I went for my consultation and she had the sleeve. She was so happy and had her 2 small grand kids with her. I know that I was looking for the least evasive but now I am thinking the sleeve looks better because of the maintenance of the lap band. How painful and how long is the sleeve recovery?

Best of luck with everything and again im sure youll be fine. -
Been lucking around and finally got the courage to post my story and ask my questions So i finally decided to take control of my life I'm hopping this surgery all works out for me I've been on the yo yo diet since jr high at my most I was 5'5 330 lbs 1.5yrs ago but finally opened my eyes when I could not fit in the Disney rocket ride with my 1 yr old and I knew I had to do something about my weight or I would not be around for my family, that same week i was passed on a promotion at work and found out from co workers that our boss didnt think i would be able to "fit" in the sewers ( i work in sewer rehab construction ) as of today I'm 232lbs Ok so I have my surgery scheduled for 3/18 with Dr Ortiz and Dr Lopez, any way I have to go on a pre op diet of Protein Shake for Bfast small fruit for snack, Protein shake for lunch and for dinner chicken breast grilled, then 3 days b4 the 18th I need to do an all clear liquid diet along with a cleanseing. So my question is did you guys have a last hurrah and if so what did you have? I so want to have a last hurrah but I just don't know if I should since that's really what got me here in the first place. All comments are welcome, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section

I am so excited and motivated by your post @Dub. I am 2 weeks pre-op and I sometimes question my decision to do this and just reading your post reminds me of why I am doing this, that I need to do this and that I will be successful. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and for inspiring others to stick to the hard decision of surgery (all of us know that this is not an easy decision to make) and to the even tougher decision of changing our eating habits and choosing life rather than sitting on the sidelines. It's going to mean work for me, but I am motivated and excited for this change. I want to live again! So happy that all is working out so well for you! Keep it up! You inspire us You are doing great !!!!! I can't stress enough the point that you are in the hardest part now.......and doing great. Today is Day 14. 23 pounds down since surgery and 79 pounds since I began the process in June. I'm doing great. I really feel good. There is really no more pain from the hernia repair and there never was any pain from the sleeve (not a bit). The wounds are healing great. I'm ready (mentally) to move on to regular food, but there is no hunger from my 3-shakes a day current diet. I've got another couple more weeks to go with the liquid diet. Then the pureed stage.....and onto the soft foods and beyond. I'm very, very comfortable with the foods I'll be eating from now on. I love grilling fish, chicken, steak and making chili and stews. Live is gonna be great and flavorful.....and I'm gonna get back into the same size I was in during my junior year of high school. Wearing the same sized Levi jeans. Life is good. I'm just doing some basic walking and stair use. Energy level is getting better....but it doesn't take much right now to wear me out. I'm used to dealing with long term knee pain and a back injury that was incurred in April. Today, as I type this....it is almost overwhelming how much better my body feels. I've not had any type of pain med in a few days, yet I'm not in pain. It is truly amazing. I am cleared to have coffee and it is has been wonderful. The Protein shakes all still taste great post-op....just as they did pre-op. Pre-op I was using a really thick mix as that seemed to sustain me longer.....I thinned them down post-op. I highly recommend the Pure Protein brand of pre-mixed Protein Shakes. The chocolate flavor was great and they are made really thick and hearty. They can be found at Walmart and Walmart's Neighborhood Market stores.

Bow Chicka Wow Wow!! APPROVED!
KateTheGreat replied to KateTheGreat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Woooo! I'm scheduled for July 2nd. I'm a week into my pre-op clear liquid diet. Not too bad, haven't cheated at all. I've wanted to...boy oh boy....but, I didn't! I just took a piece of dominos pizza my husband ordered and just inhaled the scents. haha -
Hey everyone!! I was approved today after going through all of the insurance hoops--approved the first try! YAY!!! I will schedule my surgery tomorrow--I'm looking for around the first few weeks in July. Anyone else going to be a July Bandster?

Well today was the day I have been waiting for. I got my first fill this morning and it was such a neat process. I had no idea what to expect and I am sure all doctors are different. I will tell you how my appointment went for those of you waiting for your first fill. First off I was weighed and I was down 3 lbs since the last time I was there 2 weeks ago. Not bad for having ZERO restriction. Also, I have lost 3 inches on my waist so that was also exciting. So from there they took me in to the room where this giant machine was and I had to stand in front of the xray machine and the doc looked at my belly and explained he was going to put the needle in my port and fill the band completely. So he uses freezing spray and puts the needle right in my port as I watched on the screen. I didn't even feel the needle going in thank god! He then has me swallow some barium and I watched as that trickled down my throat and stopped at the band. He then pulls saline out just enough that it trickled through my stoma. That was it. He was able to put in 3cc's today, and said he had left 1cc in my band at surgery. So I have a total of 4 cc's in my band. It was kind of exciting for me being a newbie and not knowing what to expect. So for all of you out there who are nervous about getting your first fill, don't be! It was NO BIG DEAL! I am on liquids today, mushies tomorrow, soft foods the next day and then on to regular food! So the journey finally begins!

Hi! I am new here. Just got banded on Sept 22nd and a week later got approved for 1/4 cup portions of "soft" foods. The trouble is that I am feeling great. No fill yet, and I feel like I could literally eat the same thing that I was eating prior to the band placement. I have been sticking to the high protein diet, but it's so hard to eat only a 1/4 cup! Anyone else having this issue?? I mean -- the whole reason for the band is to help with portions. Really looking forward to that first fill!!
-
Hello everyone.... I am about 4 weeks out of surgery, and i am getting my first fill on may 28th....... ummmm i have no restriction..... i can practically eat as much as i could before..... i do get full quicker but as for the band restricting my food intake isn't really working...... is this normal?? will i get restriction when i get a fill??

How Much Are You Exercising??
TKW replied to Bamabander's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never exercised before the band. I started out walking on a treadmill at the gym then went to the elliptical. I just changed gyms a couple of months ago because I got bored with it and there were no classes offered at the hospitals fitness center. Now I do all sorts of things. Zumba, Body Pump, Water Aerobics and the elliptical still sometimes. On the average I do about 7 hr's of cardio a week and I will say it has, without a doubt, helped in my weight loss. -
changes no one talks about.
beba238 replied to Seanja's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your tummy is still numb from everything. It will take a few weeks before it heals completely. Give it time to heal. I rather be happy, healthy and skinny versus feeling my belly button. I opened this thinking i was gonna read about a 3rd nipple popping out of somewhere lmfao. Embrace the good changes and stop looking for the bad. Just like @NancyDec20... Look for non scale victories. Like jeans you couldn't get into 2 weeks ago. I'm almost 2 weeks out and i got my hair done today took a pic with the bf and compared it to one i took 2 weeks before Surgery. Things like this will give you motivation but if you stay at home wondering why your belly button is so deep and start looking for other defects you'll just bring yourself down and won't be able to focus on the original reason why you got sleeved. Good Luck and keep your head up!!! Forget about your belly button for now and embrace the new you!!!! -

Anyone going to Dr. Aceves the week of april 8th to april 12th?
ncdimps posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am getting sleeved April 10th with dr aceves in Mexicali. Anyone else doing around this time? -
I think it would be a good idea to try it out to get your head in the game. However most tend to be like the poster above, and treat the last few weeks before surgery as a one big last meal. But yeah preparing for you new life is always a good thing.

Hi everyone - so glad I found this site. I started this process last year but could not get the surgery because no insurance coverage. I'm now using my bonus to self-pay, so I'm worried about spending so much money and not being happy with the results. I was suprised when I went in to re-start the process and they scheduled me for surgery on May 1!!! I'm so happy I get to do it soon but also I feel like it's happening so quickly (I think the latter is just nerves). I'm so ready for a life change - I gain so much weight during my two pregnancies and have not been able to loose any of it. One of the things I'm concerned about is a social life. I'm frequently invited to parties, happy hours, "hang out and drink beer" events. I don't want to broastcast to the world that I've had surgery, but I know that this is going to be a life change. How do you politely turn down invitations or, if you do go to an event, are you able to enjoy it? Can you still have a social life?

you will have to do a liquid diet for one to two weeks (depending on your BMI and your surgeon) prior to surgery. i have to do a two week liquid diet starting on November 17th through December 1st, no thanksgiving feast for me ; ( . i asked my husband if he would do it with me and he said no but he promised to do the cooking for those two weeks so i am not feeling too much torture.
