  1. Hi guys ... I am new to the DS forum. I had the sleeve done in April 2013, self pay in MX. No issues except I should probably have paid for the bypass but since I was self pay I couldnt afford it at that time. I started out over 325 lbs so I had more than the average sleever to lose. I am now looking to have a revision to DS. I now have insurance coverage so I am beginning the process. My total loss with the sleeve was 90 lbs and I have gained 20 lbs back .... struggling with bad choices, grazing and even less time to work out often ... I work FT, attend law school classes part time evenings 4 nights per week, married and have a 9 yr old.

Hit my first goal, 3 wk post op

Congratulations! That is awesome - nice job!!! No wondering "if" here!! Can't wait for my revision. July (or august) can't come soon enough! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
  3. Hello, everyone I'm new to the gastric bypass forum.... Long story short I had a few terrible complications with the sleeve that I received May 2014 and was just revised to the bypass March 16th. So I'm four days post-op and have some many questions and would really love some input and support..... Sent from my LG-H634 using the BariatricPal App
  4. Hi! I'm in the same boat. Banded 3 years ago and I'm having tons of complications with the band. I didn't loose a lot of weight with the band because all the problems and my current BMI is 33. I have an appointment with a doctor here in Arizona in a couple of weeks but I'm super nervous about my BMI, as most insurances will consider a revision with a BMI higher than 35. I feel we should be a candidate for a revision regardless of our BMIs if the lap band removal is medically necessary Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Inverted gastric sleeve

This topic interests me as I may revise from lapband to sleeve. It sounds/looks as though the inverted sleeve seam is kinda-sorta-maybe like the seams on jeans?? GoldenGirl posed a good question about flexibility, etc. I suppose I didn't realize that a sleeve incision is stapled and that the staples are a permanent fixture. The idea of having them forever is uncomfortable. Can some not we worked out over time and end up floating in the body? In the case of inverted sleeve, is the suture material also a permanent presence along the incision line? That no one here had leakage doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Ten people or so are not a reliable sample. I'm not saying that the technique is or isn't foolproof, but it should be possible to find out more. I hope someone coming by here can give some info on Beachsprite's comment on sugar and whether she may have been referring to sugar during the healing process or forever after. Perhaps you're still around, Beachsprite? @@LMolina1987, are you still here? What was your final decision? How was it and how are you doing now? That is, if you've had surgery.

    Surgery Roux-en-y Surgery April 4!

I'm a CT. tech at a hospital. I'm having revision from lap band to RNY. I'm taking off 2 weeks. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
  7. I had my lap band put in in 2008. Currently, I am working towards a revision to bypass (nearing end of six month supervised diet insurance requirement). For me, I am having to do all the pre-op stuff all over again- supervised diet, psych evaluation, upper GI, meeting with a nutritionist, EKG, etc. That seems to be the norm from what I've seen on here.
  8. I had to have my band removed due to a slip and at the time I was down to goal weight and my surgeon said I no longer qualified after saying I had the option for the sleeve. I had even started going through the process of getting the sleeve after I finished healing. I now live in another state and want to get my sleeve. Even though working out 5 times a week and eating healthy food I still have the issue I started with when I got my band in 2010....I'm always hungry and can't portion control. I have a food addiction. I've gained 60lbs in this year without my band. Has anyone had this kind of time between surgeries? What was your insurance experience like? I have the seminar to start the process here but I am so nervous that my insurance won't consider this a revision because it has been so long and they only allow one bariatrics surgery per lifetime. I want to add that I lost 160lbs with my band. I loved my band and did great with the restriction so I know the sleeve would work for me as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I was banded 3 years ago. I had a lower BMI when I started and have had successful weight loss, my BMI is currently a 26, so I am very close to normal. I have had numerous fills and unfills over the last three years. It seems like every time I was in the green zone, I would get too tight and be unable to keep anything down until I had an unfill. My band has been high maintenance. I started having night time reflux so I had all the Fluid removed, then an upper GI. The upper GI revealed a slip in my band. That was 3 months ago and I had another upper GI to see if it had fixed itself. Unfortunately it did not, and now I notice that I am uncomfortably tight (without any fluid). I plan to call the surgeon's office to discuss the possibility of either getting the lap band fixed, but after reading more about it, I am also interested in revision to the sleeve. My sister in law had the sleeve and she has had good success. I would love to know the good and bad about revision to the sleeve after lap band. I am worried that I might have a lot of scar tissue and/or a hiatial hernia that is causing some of the nighttime reflux. Some weeks when the slip makes everything feel super tight, I mostly live on soft foods, Protein shakes, and Soup. It's not fun. One major benefit (to me) of having a revision to the sleeve is less maintenance. As I said earlier, mine has been high maintenance - unfills, fills, reflux, and episodes of being so tight I can't keep much of anything down. Thank you!
  10. Hi ... As many are stating here they have been banded for a while and now switching over . I was banded 11/2009 , lost weight initially and nothing now , actually gaining and fast . I'll admit I'm not working out and need to . Regardless , I'm calling on Monday to make my appointment with a new surgeon to discuss lap and revision to bypass . Can someone tell me if you have to go through all of the pre req appointments again like before banding ? Also, what has been the general turn around time from initial appointment to surgery time for everyone ? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

How long did it take for you to heal?

I was back to work in a week after my band to sleeve revision and also had gallbladder out. Not a whole lot of pain for me either after the first few days. I work in the office 3 days a week and I work at home 2 days. Also desk job. I could've taken more time but didn't really feel Like I needed it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I'm also the 21st revision from sleeve to RNY
  13. @@liposuction68, i am actually not scheduled yet. I am about midway through the process of band to Sleeve revision. August was a guesstimate. I had been having issues but was without insurance for a minute because we moved from Indiana to Ohio. Once I got here I found a surgeon, had an upper gi and EGD. Now I am just working the program with the Nutritionist. Hoping for late July or early August. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App
  14. Thank you all for your support. This post is very helpful since I had my revision to sleeve on 03/16/16 with Dr. Michael Choi. I don't feel any pain today; but my blood pressure was high this morning. I will check with it out at walgreens to see if I need to do something else. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App

How long did it take for you to heal?

I wasn't a revision, but my surgeon suggested two weeks off post-op for my sleeve. I have a desk job. For me, the pain wasn't an issue beyond the first few days. My main issue was the fatigue. I was very very tired and drained feeling until I was able to eat more substantial foods and get more calories in. I have read posts from people who went back one week post-op and posts from people who went back four weeks post-op, but two weeks seems to be the norm.
  17. Hi all! When I had my lap band placed, I was back to work in 1 week. I'm imagining the sleeve revision won't be the same. I'm just curious about how long did it take you to go back to work? I'll be doing the 2 step process also

    zero weight loss

Check your carbs. While you are in the weight loss phase there is really no reason to eat carbs at all as they can stall your progress. As others have pointed out, get your sleeve checked to see if you may need a revision. If not enough stomach was removed then you will lose less than other people as you won't have the same restriction level. Finally, make sure you are eating enough calories. If you eat too few calories your body will go into starvation mode and will cling desperately to every calorie you have stored.

    Set a Date!

Yeah, you know the thighs are so heavy, sometimes it does not matter how great the surgeon is. The weight of the thighs can make the incision area move down, and it is no longer in that very important crease area. After my surgery, I could walk. I felt great. I was not in any pain. But, I wanted everything to stay right where Dr. G sutured me, because that is a delicate area. Who want a revision surgery down there! (Smile) I slept with pillows under my knees for over 6 months. It just felt better. Pillows under those knees will keep everything up so it can heal in place securely.

  22. Please move my post if I am not in the right place. I had gastric bypass in 8/2012. I fasted to a weight of 275 and in the next three months I dropped to 246. I lost my health insurance at that time and couldn't go to the doc anymore. I never lost anymore after the 246. I stayed there until the weight started quickly come back on. I never felt like I had restriction and I ate like I didn't. I ate a lot of slider foods. (My Father also died the same year and I was in another state isolated from my family. I should also tell you that I hurt my back in 2009 and I had trouble walking - one of the reasons I had the surgery) There's so much to believe that there was something wrong with my surgery (I was hungry when I woke from surgery and ate the whole Clear liquids platter and I never felt much restriction at all.) I feel so much shame about what I keep thinking as my failure to adhere to the "rules." On top of that I started having trouble with alcohol in 2013 and I am an alcoholic now, currently seeking treatment. I don't like to regret things but I always think that I would have done better with the sleeve but if the problem is really psychological with me, it wouldn't have mattered. Now I finally have insurance and I can seek an opinion on the surgery and meet with a dietician. I will not be pursuing a revision or other procedure unless I have at least a year of sobriety. Thank you for reading.

    Anyone from NJ

all your feelings are normal they get better everyday... im having revision on 4/6 dr. ewing in NJ
  24. I just got call from Insurance and am now approved. It was a week ago Dr. sent in paperwork, and first round Ins said there is a 6 month wait. But after explaining my issues and need for revision soon, they quickly approved. Now just waiting for surgery date. Hoping for mid to late April.
  25. As others have all said if you have reflux DS will not cure it. Your stomach stays the same the only thing that changes is the re-routing of your intestines. Personally I went from VSG to GB in September 2015 and haven't looked back. I had also considered DS but am so glad I revised to the GB. I have had no issues with dumping at all. I beleive I needed the smaller stomach created with the GB and the malabsorptive part in the bypass. As said definitely ask your surgeon what he suggests but if you have reflux only answer is GB.
