  1. I'm not due for my cycle, luckily. What I'm eating are mushies. Pureed chicken, fish, turkey... Hummus, yogurt, Laughing Cow cheese wedges. All high protein, low carb stuff that's on my nut list.... It seems no matter how much I get in it doesn't make a full 60g of protein and my water intake could be better... ok way better...

    Milk

I drink at least 1 glass of skim milk a day. As far as the sugar I try to stay with sugar free stuff and you have to watch the more refined sugars that are in desserts. I eat greek yogurts that have sugar in them and that hasn't bothered me at all. but when I tried a spoonful of icing that was a totally different story. Let's just say I won't be doing that ever again.
  3. So I was sleeved on 11-12-13. Got home from the hospital on Thursday night. Yesterday was my first day home. I had 2 yogurts, one Greek, and about 6 oz of a protein shake. I got in at least 40 additional ounces of fluid like water and decaf tea. Is this acceptable ? I have no idea if I am feeling hunger pains or pain for surgery. Stomach is very sore. I'm on full liquids.

    Food Diary

Thanks everyone for replying! So, this morning I'm taking SF2009's advice and did my diary for today ahead of time. So, I cut the shakes, the yogurt and the amount of cottage cheese I have in the morning to .75 cups and it makes a huge difference! Calories 1,219 Fat 63.4 Carbs 44.7 Protein 124 My protein's a still kind of high, but I know I can work on getting that down. I kept hearing the doc say protein, protein, protein and went crazy getting food high in protein Julia BTW, I'm 5'2 and my doc said I should 60-90 grams a day
  5. I am three weeks out, I eat package of cream of wheat made with skim milk for breakfast, a 6 oz greek yogurt for lunch and a scrambled egg and half a banana for dinner. I have 3 cups of sugarfree chocolate milk for snacks. I have not been good about getting in my water and am trying to get more today. I also eat cottage cheese and peaches for a meal also. I'd love some new ideas and go to soft foods in one more week.
  6. HI!! I had a fill on May 1st and seemed as tho all was going well.... Then on May 11th I slept in front of the AC and developed a sore throat...from that point on I have had a few issues with food...I seem to be having trouble with major heartburn and I cant seem to eat much at all...I am by no means hungry which is good...but could the sore throat have caused swelling and the band to get too tight..?? I also seem to notice my scales are going up ...should i go back on liquids a few days?? call the dr and see if they can remove some fluid...before the fill i was eating larger meals and getting hungry...I a confused now..today i had a low blood sugar soooo i had a cup of OJ with my protein powder mixed in skim milk..i tried meatloaf for dinner and no luck there a cpl bites i couldnt do it i am now trying and i say TRYING to do a yogurt....any suggestions will be greatly appreciated....thansk so much ....would my band have tightened after 2 weeks of being ok??? i was thinking maybe liquids for a few days??? then gradually add reg stuff ???? thanks for any input......muffin

    Protein

The directions should be on the can. The protein powders I have call for 8-10 oz of water or milk. I use almond milk when using powders. I drink the premade Premier Protein in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. I also bought Rob Jarrow unflavored protein to mix into things like pureed banana and yogurt. I bought protidiet cream of chicken soup on Amazon which was good. Sugar free ice pops are good too for fluid.

    "Emotional eating"

Preop eating was an intensely satisfying experience. I loved the stuffed to the gills feeling and that guilty feeling that I shouldn't be eating something but I was doing it anyway. I ate when I was bored, I ate when I was angry, I ate when I was happy...I would eat all day long sometimes, especially when stressed out. Food made me incredibly happy. Guilty, afterward, but for a brief time I was very happy. Food was definitely like a drug for me. I'm only seven weeks out, and now I've done a complete 180 turn. I don't like eating. It's not enjoyable. I enjoy the taste of two or three bites, and then I'm tired of eating. I have to remind myself to eat, because more than once I've gotten to the end of the day on a yogurt and a cheese stick. I don't want to eat when I'm happy, or sad and I absolutely cannot eat if I'm angry or stressed. It is physically impossible for me to overeat. If I eat one bite too many, or even if I drink too much water too fast, up it comes (more like a productive burp than vomiting) and I have to stop. While these are good steps to ridding myself of food addiction, I'd have to say that it's also depressing. I'm moodier and slightly depressed lately, mostly because my main coping strategy was cut out with my stomach. So I'd say that yes, the surgery could probably help with this (though not everyone experiences a lack of hunger or cravings post op) but that therapy is probably still needed for some people (like myself) to help cope with the major upheavals WLS can cause. The surgery can fix your tummy and possibly cause the cravings and the emotional eating to stop, but it doesn't fix whatever made you overeat in the first place. ~Cheri

    Mushies Tom

keep it simple the first day- dont push yourself out of your comfort zone. Try SF pudding with Protein powder or FF greek yogurt with splenda or crystal light for flavor. If that is too thick or heavy dilute with skim milk and gradually thicken it up with Protein Powder. Also try thickening up your Protein shakes with more pro powder and ice and yogurt. If you want to progress beyond that- try cottage cheese or tofu. I personally LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the laughing cow soft cheese wedges for flavor- they are only 2g pro and 2g carbs 35 cal- so they arent food to live off of, but they do give you some variety flavor wise. If you excercise dont sweat the carbs. hope that helps! This mushie stage is AWESOME after all those sweet protein drinks!

    July 29th Sleevers

Thank you for your response. I was in hospital total of 3 days including surgery day, my surgeon told me to start protein when discharged from hospital, can do sugar free pudding mixed with protein powder, carb master yogurt mixed with protein powder, also any of the protein shakes they recommended, I have been using Unjury products, strained soups mixed with protein, each feeding only 4 oz, 6 feedings per day and at least 64 oz of fluids, preferably water.. Tomorrow have post op appointment, to get drain tube removed, can't wait, very annoying part of post op.

    Hey everyone!

Hi, congrats on your surgery. I ate anything that could pass through a straw. Creamy soups seem to fill me up the best. I would stick to creamy soups, protein shakes, yogurt, those types of foods. Good luck.

    Meds.

I was told to crush my pills (I take 2) and they crushed one for me in the hospital and put it in Water.... and it was horrible. Now I put them in yogurt or pudding and let them soften and then swallow it like a little bite. It works but my pills are tiny.

    Meds.

Most of my meds I was able to do liquid form (check with your pharmacy) but the ones I couldn't do liquid I had to open up and take them with yogurt. It was not fun. It doesn't last very long though. Pretty soon I was able to take them whole again.

    2/20/07 Menu

Bfast - 6 oz protein shake made with skim milk Lunch - had 2 chips with a little queso on it, had a taco salad about 1/4 of it made with fahitta chicken and had about 1/2 cup of quacomole on it. Did not eat it all, brought the majority of it home. DH will eat it tonight Snack - Low Carb Yogurt with 2 tsp of granola mixed in (9 grms of protein) Dinner - 7 low fat wheat thins with hummus (too many) snack - about 4 pieces thru the day of Dove SF chocolate - too many Exercise - NONE, I'm so mad at myself Water - about 45 oz - grrrr, I must get to 64 oz. Supplements - 1 Viactiv multi-Vitamin, Liquid B-12 complex Notes - Not really a good day today, I felt more hungry than previous days. I think I'm losing my restriction. I dealt with head hunger too. I was constantly looking for something to put in my mouth and I really had to watch myself. I am at the end of TOM, so not sure if that had anything to do with it. For the heck of it, I stepped on the scales (which I said I wasn't going to do) and I'm up 2 lbs (208.2). I'm not really worried about it, I figured my weight would go up some eating solid foods again, I hope it starts going back down soon. I am mad at myself for not getting out of bed this AM to exercise. Thats what I am focussed on this week - I want to get back into the habit of exercising, and it is so hard!

    Help, I need lunch ideas...

I bring cheese sticks, diced chicken, a side salad, Greek yogurt, lots of bottled water, carrots and hummus, protein bars and a protein drink. I'm a nurse and I also work 7a-7p 3-4x's a week. I try to pack at least 3 meals and a few snacks when I go to work.

    Did I mess up?

I wouldn't even say that you need to go that far. I'll tell you what my practice says: days 1-6: 60 oz. Water or clear, non-caffeinated, non-carbonated, sugar-free liquids per day 60 g. Protein per day (protein shakes- powder mixed w/ water) clear broth, sugar-free Jello days 7-13: stage 2: full liquids continue 48-60 oz. Clear Liquids daily continue protein drinks- can be mixed with skim or 1% milk now- aim for 60g. protein/day light yogurt low-fat cream Soups sugar-free custard/pudding NO LUMPS OR CHUNKS!! no need to separate fluids & foods at this point Days 14-21: stage 3: mushy foods So really, I think you're FINE with the jell-o and yogurt you've had. I've seen plenty of other people who were allowed to start on "full liquids" on day 3 after surgery. Don't beat yourself up!
  23. I had surgery on 4/29 and now I'm on the soft foods phase. In the morning, I eat Breakfast (a serving of rice krispies which is 1 1/4 c) around six and around 9 o'clock, I'm absolutely starving to the point where my stomach is growling and I feel like i'm going to be sick. If I have a snack then, than I'm usually hungry again around 11, and I can't go to lunch until 12:30. In the afternoons I seem to do much better. I don't know if I'm eating enough, or even if I should be eating more or less? Can someone tell me if I am doing alright? I'm sooo worried about going in and finding out that I gained weight when I go in on the 29th for my first fill. Here's my menu for during the day: Breakfast: Rice Krispies w/milk Snack: yogurt/or applesauce Lunch: 2 tbsp. tuna w/4 saltine crackers Fruit cocktail cup string cheese Snack: jello/pudding (optional) I'm sooo afraid of falling back into the way that I used to, I don't want to stay overweight. I've lost 30 lbs since I've had the surgery done, and I don't want to mess this up. Can anyone give me some advice?
  24. I had my surgery the day before you did, and I was in the same boat. I realized that I needed to have protein heavy breakfasts. I usually scramble 2 eggs and that can hold me long enough for lunch. Now from lunch to dinner is another story. At lunch time I can eat eat eat. No restriction with the swelling gone. Again I am really trying to load up on the proteins. Usually some kind of bean dish along with tofu, or (i know it's gross to a lot of people) but I also eat braunsweiger, or liverwurst. It helps a bit. I usually get home and have a 4oz yogurt or some cottage cheese to hold me till my husband gets home for dinner.
  25. I am 6 weeks out. I keep reading over and over "eat Protein then veggies". I'm sorry but its a struggle just to get the protein in! Absolutely no room for veggies. I'm guessing/hoping this will change over time? I'm worried I'm not eating very healthy. I do take a Vitamin. I have a 30g Protein shake for Breakfast and then try to get the rest of my protein in by eating greek yogurt, string cheese, chicken, sliced turkey, or fish throughout the day. Is that okay? My doctors info discusses fruits/veggies/small amount of grains but there is barely enough room for the protein! I feel content as it is....I just worry about not eating anything but protein type foods. :-/ One more question....for those of you who are a lot further out, does the "normal" feeling of being full eventually return? Right now, I only know I'm full because either I get the hiccups or chest tightness.....not the "thanksgiving full" feeling I had expected to feel. I don't know if it has something to do with the nerves being disturbed during the surgery or what. I'm just curious if I will ever get that standard full feeling I used to get. (and yes, I know we should only be eating until satisfied! I am just wondering!)
