    Plateau

It's the infamous Week 3/Week 4 stall that everyone gets. Your body is adjusting from surgery to liquids to soft mushy foods. Everybody gets it. No worries, the scale will start moving again in no time.

    Why the protein???

I'm glad you asked that I've been wondering that for weeks. I don't take in that much protein a day. Do you know how much we should be taking in a day?

    Antacids?

I take OTC Prilosec twice a day. I was only taking it once a day, but the 2nd week post op I was waking with Reflux and was told to take 2 a day for the first few months. Taking them twice a day works perfectly... I don't have any problems at all with heartburn or reflux now.

    spiralling downward... please read

Are you seeing a therapist? I highly recommend it if you aren't. Eating raw oysters less than 2 weeks out is dangerous and I would think that choice alone verges on self-harm. I had to have several months of sessions with my therapist to learn to deal with self-sabotaging behavior.
  5. Wow I am 3 days post op and the reflux is unreal. Dr said surgery went off without a hitch and everything was fine... it's so hard to take anything in when I feel so shitty. I have never ever experienced heart burn in my life before this is awful. Is this quite normal? They gave me prisolec I think it's called to take everyday for 3 months but wow I don't even know if it's working. Any suggestions? TIA
  6. ...and oddly not hungry. I definitely feel like I'm missing something, but not necessarily food. I'm a little bit tired, but mostly just fine. A few pounds dropped off, but Premier stops me up like no tomorrow. So what I'm saying is......NOT SO BAD!!!

    Incision pain - how long?

I had my revision surgery (band to sleeve) on 8/11/2015. It took about 6 weeks before the large incision stopped hurting. A couple of my incisions are a little tender if I press on them, but at this point, they don't hurt. My surgeon sent me home with something called On-Q, which is a local anesthetic pain pump. This thing was GREAT! It kept my abdomen numb for the first several days. I was discharge on Friday. On Sunday, it was time to remove it. Some may be a bit squeamish about it, but it was very simple. I just had to pull the two catheters out and put a Band-Aid on the incision. Even after the removal of On-Q, I stayed numb for about 2 more days. Sorry for the tangent! Best wishes to you on your journey!

    Antacids?

Tums does not do much for most of us. I was put on omeprazole 20mgs 1x say from day 1. Around 6 weeks I noticed I would get slight heartburn in midafternoon/early evenings. After speaking with my doctor at my 3 mth f/u my dosage was increased to 40mgs. By 5mths I no longer needed omeprazole at all. In fact I don't even need to use Tums. My body has regulated itself and I've retrained myself to not wolf my food down. I no longer have to eat super slow, but I don't inhale my food and get sick either. I'm 7½ mths post-op.

    The Definition Of Restriction?

How many fills did you have until you felt the band was really helping you control your hunger? And how long after surgery did you wait to get a fill? I'm getting banded in Mexico Friday, first fill is six weeks out - is that about right? And how often do you wait between fills?

I Think I Eat To Fast

I just started my 10th week yesterday. I could not eat eggs at 3 weeks! I tried and it all came back up. I can eat scrambled eggs now, but boiled eggs still give me a problem no matter how much I chew. I have to put them in the blender if I want egg salad. I've gotten used to eating slowly and chewing a lot, but for some reason I forget that I can't gulp drinks! LOL! Hopefully I will better at taking smaller mouthfuls of liquids. We all adjust in different ways.

    Revision

I had revision on March 2nd and all is well actually couldn't be better. I've had a couple of stalls which was to be expected but things are moving in the right direction now....32 lbs down in all . I feel great and recommend the procedure to anyone that had no success with the lap band. I see you are Louisiana like me........my clinic is in Lafayette and am very pleased with them. Good luck.
  13. Hi everyone, Thank you for this wonderful site! The detail here about the good, bad and frankly ugly aspects of the band has helped give me the information I couldn't find anywhere else (Web pages shouting how great and glorious banding is just didn't do it for me) My family has a long history of heart disease...my aunt died at 45 of a heart attack and my mom almost died last year. So while I know I don't have as long of a road as many of you do, I'm hoping to break this awful history. Luckily my heart is fine so far, but I'm 45 soon and weigh almost the same as my aunt did when she died.....veryvery scary. I am committed to this path....and in fact my husband thinks I'm just a little bit nuts...he had band surgery last March and has lost 65 lbs so far...but I've chosen to have the surgery three days after we get back from spending almost three weeks in Europe on vacation...he has bet me that I won't be able to stick to the pre-op diet...I'll show him :scared: Anyway thanks again for this great community. I'm hoping I've learned a few things already from you guys, but I guarantee I'll be asking some dumb questions here and there....in fact I know one right now! What in the heck is a PB? I know it stands for productive burp, but beyond that I don't have a clue!

    The Definition Of Restriction?

I have no fill, but yet I feel restriction. I am satisfied between 3-4 hours after a meal. To me, I like the restriction I get from my band. I mean, before the band I would eat an hour after every meal.....

    Newly Banded - Questions

Was on liquids for only one week. Dr. said to go to the next phase. Talked to my dietician and she said basically whatever I can chew to apple sauce feel it was okay. I'm kind of worried though if I'm healing the right way. But Dr. and Dietician said it is okay. I did feel the tightness the second week. Now going into the third week no tightness. I do stop myself. I would like to get a fill but won't see the Dr. till the 9th of Oct. for my first fill. Just remember protein first, vegetable or fruit and if enough room starch. Which you will find out no room. Hope this help a little:thumbup:

How was your Holiday's a success for you?

I do all the cooking/baking/hosting of Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. I am SOOOOOO happy I did not have a cookie, fudge, truffle, candy of any kind. That is huge for me. It did not bother me one bit either. Drank my Water while everyone was drinking and had A LOT of fun! I have so much more energy it is amazing. I even got on the scale Christmas Day to find I lost 3 lbs that week and did the same on New Years Day and lost another 3. Two months out from surgery and I am down 48 lbs. Could have been more had I been able to exercise but still dealing with a pulled muscle in my calf. I am excited about my new life and Holiday Success. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

    Newly Banded - Questions

Sorry, I can't be of any help. I was banded on July 21 and am still on my liquid diet. I would however warn you not to eat too soon, not to let situations tempt you. Your band needs time to heal, and that is the reason for the liquid fast. Please be careful. I am in my 4th week of liquid fasting. I am very hungry at times, but will not let food ruin this chance I have to heal. hugs

    Your Fired

Friday I came home from work and my yard was not done, see I am the last yard of the week. So I am thinking after years of having my yard done, because I was too FAT to do it myself. I figured if I can walk 2.5 miles, I can mow my own yard. So I fired the yard crew and got the mower out and mowed. This may seem like a simple task to many but since I was so FAT I could not do it without it taking me hours since I would have to mow a little and rest a lot, mow a little and rest a lot. When I mowed I edged, fertilized, and killed the bugs while I was out there. I did everything in 2.5 hours on a Friday night after working all day and walking 2.5 miles at lunch. Boy I love the LB. More money saved since I was spending $200 a month for yard care, add this to the $400 I am saving in food and I will take a nice vacation this year.

    Is This Condidered Exercise ?

Ok, so most people on here know of me and know that I work 6-7 days a week in a fast pace restaurant. Most days I work 12 hour shifts and hardly get to sit down , especially in the weekends. I was sleeved July 7 and I've gone from 250 to 210 since my preop. I try to work out on my off days or the half days I get. Do you all think in doing ok? Thanks for the opinions .

    Drinking Enough Liquids

It sounds like it is too soon for you to be eating anything...like many others, I was on liquids for 2 entire weeks post op, then on mushies for an additional week. If it is painful to swallow, you need to get in contact with your surgeon's office asap and let them know what is going on. You should have been given a prescription for a pain medication pre op; take some according to directions. It is not normal to have pain with swallowing. I would return to a liquid only diet and give everything a bit longer to heal. After a fill, I have to return to a liquid diet for 2 days, then soft foods for 1 day. I hope you feel better fast!
  22. I ate a LOT more "junk" than I should have, but I also pushed the fluids & exercise and in the end I weighed the exact same the week after New Year's Day as I did the week before Christmas. Not too bad for my first real holiday with my sleeve!
  23. Hi! I know i need more protein but even at 3 months post I can not tolerate more! When i tried I vomit! I was checked and I am ok but I am getting more protein each day! I am trying to be patient and get more protein as I can. thanks

    Feeling down

Honey, we lose as fast as we're gonna lose. ((hugs)) But let's do the math. You've lost 40lbs in about 10 weeks. That is 4lbs per week which is WELL above the average of 3lbs/week. Congrats! You're a quick loser!!! Now stop comparing yourself to others! Cuz you're doing great Mamacita!!
