  1. I had the same thing last week, It hurt like a heart attack in the middle of my chest. I called my Dr and he recommended I go to the ER but I knew it wasn't a heart attack. I tried Gas-X without relief then at 3 am I got up to dress to go to the ER and decided to try some Milk Of Magnesia. Instant relief. I had the same feeling the next morning and took the MOM again. I saw the Dr on Tuesday and he said it might be GERD and he did an unfill. I had nothing in my band but he took out all the air too. I haven't had the feeling at all since then, but I am STARVING! I gained 2 lbs in a little less than a week and don't like it. The Dr said I have been losing too fast anyhow but I am going to see him next week and going to try a small fill just so I can get through the night without eating everything in the house. I haven't yet felt that this surgery was a good idea. From the day I came home I have had pain, felt uncomfortable and just not happy. I am hoping I can get to the good spot soon.
  2. Hi I am only 3 weeks out and getting concerned. The scale dropped like lightening the first 8 days. Since then it's barely moved and in the last 3 days I've gained. Is that normal? I am following everything to the letter so I'm not sure where and if I'm actually falling short. Please help

    Plateaus and weight gain

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or more. But don't worry -- after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again like crazy! (Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

    Plateaus and weight gain

I just came out of my first stall. It started about a week and a half after surgery and lasted for 2 full weeks. The good news is that it does end and you will start losing again.

    Heartburn

As a fill on Feb 27th, pretty tight. Super slow eating and can't eat a lot of foods I could once! Been experiencing heart burn since last Thurs, not too bad but noticeable! No burping or stuff coming out, just feel it in my chest! Does this happen! I was fine until last week, could it be due to band being tight! This was the tighest I ever felt it!!! I dd liquids n mushers for almost 2 weeks.
  6. Thanks. What musy food are you eating? today is my 1st week.
  7. I wouldnt weigh in for at least a week-or even 2.....watching the scale does nothing for you, but make you sad and depressed. when you finally do get on it after this time...you will be giddy!

I need a kick in the butt

Okay, I always love it when folks ask for a kick in the butt! But I don't think you need one, really. You need some gentle encouragement! What a year- or more!- it's been! First off, unless you have been seriously abusing your band, you are fine and all you need is a fill. Do you have any problem symptoms that cause concern? You have maintained your weight loss...think how much you would have GAINED going through all that! And that's the beauty of the band. When you are ready, it's waiting right there for you! Please don't be discouraged about seeing the doc. Buck up and go. Gotta face the music one of these days! Your assignment for this week (by Friday) is to check with your new insurance to see if fills are covered. That's it. Don't do anything else (unless the spirit moves) but that. How's that? Chop! Chop! Make that call!!! and (((((HUGS))))) for all you have been through.
  9. Jenny, I've been on soft foods over two weeks, with two more to go--my biggest saviour has been keeping up with the required 6-8 cups of liquid daily. Especially Protein drinks! I mix dry powder whey protein isolate (chocolate malt/belgian chocolate) with Water and it satiates me for a very lon-n-n-g-g-g-g time. Dave01 is right--the amount of protein you take in makes a huge difference in your energy level--not to mention not losing your hair!! Ice cream bad, Protein shake good.........!
  10. Hello all! I have a few questions. I just found out im prego (4 weeks along). I lost about 140 pounds in 14 months. My surgery date was 4/16/12. How did you keep up on eating. Sometimes I forget to eat all day. And were you considered high risk?
  11. I agree re: behavior modification. My current obsession is painting....my house, that is. It's not expensive, provides instant gratification and terrific exercize. I just don't understand why the more weight I lose, the less confident I feel. I always assumed it was the whole 'who I am is tied into my obese physical appearance'. In other words, I don't know how to live as a slim person. Think about it...all of a sudden, we can shop in regular stores. We can fit comfortably into standard seats. No one seems to be watching us when we eat, we can easily maneuver in a regular sized dressing room, a bathroom stall, etc. May sound strange but I spent 40 years developing behaviors that were necessary when I was fat but aren't now. I always dreamed of being slim and now that I'm on my way, I'm happy...it's just I feel a little lost and not quite sure what to do with myself. I'm not depressed by any means and I have ZERO regrets...I'm just at a loss sometimes as I move down the weight chart and into a life that's completely alien to me.

    Wondering What Is Wrong.

First, this is going to be a long journey and you will have hills and valleys. It's not going to be a steady stairway to skinny heaven. And I mean looooonnnnggg journey. So never fret over a week or two setback. Carolina is right. You can no longer gulp your food or even liquids. Some of us can, but you sound like you still have a lot of inflammation around your band so slow down and take it easy. The clear sticky stuff you PB'd(productive burp) is your body's mechanism to aid stuck food through your esophogus. More on that when you start getting fills and get stuck. It's OK to spit it out. It's not OK to have PB with every meal but it will happen many times if you are normal. tmf
  13. I just got approved today for the sleeve and I'm scheduled to have it done in 2 weeks. Do you any suggestions for me as I get ready to start my Journey?
  14. It took me 10 days or so to really feel like my insides were okay. Same hernia and pain you mentioned. I can say please do follow the liquid diet for a full week. Adding any type of non-liquid food the first 1-2 weeks only makes the pressure worse......

    Frustrated

sip sip sip, you do not want to go on an IV! I don't know about your medical plan, but I have to pay $500 a day for the hospital. Suck it up and try some different fruit proteins, and you can count the water and protein at the same time. Nectar is not to bad. You can get samples for cheep. I have tried the cherry and the strawberry kiwi, not too bad. Add some ice and get the job done. In a few weeks you will have more choices and will be able to drink more. This is not a joke. You are doing it to take care of your self and your healing right now. Not enough water or protein will slow the healing and your body will take away from your muscles and heart if it cant find the protein in your food. Just do it. It will get better soon.

    Frustrated

Try some unflavored protein. Just be warned, it doesn't heat well. I wouldn't put it in water, but others might have recommendation. I used vitamin water zero and lemon juice concentrate to add to the fruit flavors and cut the sweet. I can't stand the chocolate or the thickness of most protein drinks, but finally settled on cherry syntax protein, extra water, lemon juice or crystal light lemonade mixed together. By the way by 2 1/2 - 3 weeks I could swallow bigger sips and didn't feel like I was drowning myself sipping constantly. This too shall pass. Just focus, and keep it up.
  17. I am only 6 weeks out and have a finicky pouch. I am not sure what I will make yet. But I also have a husband and three kids to think about what they will eat. One thing I made at Christmas that was a huge hit was taco cups and crabragoon cups (I used shrimp instead of crab meat). Oh my gosh, my family goobled them up! You use wonton wrappers as the crust and bake them. I also saw where you can use wonton wrapper to make little pizza calzone triangles. I plan on making these.

    Oh My Gosh

I had to do 1 week pre-op of shakes w/ lean protein/veggies for dinner. I lost 6 lbs. In the two weeks since my surgery I lost 2lbs, started mushies, and have gained them back. I think alot depends on your starting BMI. Mine was 31.7. I feel like I am one of the only people that has lost such a small amount initially....

    vitamin overload

I did liquid vitamins for the first four weeks after surgery: multivitamin, calcium, and iron -- plus sublingual B12. For the liquids I used Wellesse brand (available via Amazon and other places) and took a double dose. After four weeks I switched to Trader Joe's High Potency chewable multi's, Citracal Petites (although I think I am going to change to Celebrate Chewables), generic vitamin D, and Jarrow's Vitamin K2. I still do the liquid iron since that's what I seem to tolerate best. My labs have always been great.
  20. My first two weeks was only liquids, too. Clear broth, diluted juice, shakes mixed with water, sugar free popsicles, tea. I couldn't even have jello, pudding, yogurt, or baby food until weeks 3-4.
  21. Yeah ur stomachs probably telling u it's not ready, I was on liquids for 2 weeks, nothing but Protein shakes, drinking yogurts, thin Soup and Water. Even when I moved to the purée stage I stuck to mainly Protein Shakes just to try and get in the protein

    Weird symptoms?!

Oh my goodness! Perhaps this has something to do with something I am experiencing of late. Please let me know what you think. I have been post op for 5 weeks now. And the last week I have been feeling like there is something strange stuck in the back of my throat, the right side. It's like there's something small there and I can't get it out. The closest similar feeling I ever had was when I ate some popcorn and a piece of the kernel got stuck there. It is def not something I've eaten, because I haven't eaten anything hard that could get weirdly stuck in there. It is very very very annoying. Any of you experienced this??

    C25k ?

I started couch to 5k today. I'd been walking/jogging for a few weeks before staring the program, so today I started at week 3, but the program still recorded me as doing week 1, day 1. Any one know a way around that?
  25. Yikes! I've been doing okay (surgery was about 6 weeks ago) and losing, but today I just feel miserable. I got to bed late Friday night (had the extended family over to say goodbye to my son who is moving across the country on Monday) and last night I got no sleep because my arthritis woke me up in pain so bad I was crying. So all day today I'm tired and achy and miserable. So, what did I do the minute my husband left to help my son load his furniture into the moving truck? I grabbed a bag of M&Ms and ate it. And I have to go see my doc on Tuesday! I'm going to absolutely hate getting on that scale now. We all slip up from time to time, and if you're working on your master's thesis I know of what you speak. It was about 2-3 months before I finished that I was so frustrated and overwhelmed that I nearly quit. During that last semester I thought I was going to lose my mind. I was hating life: the thesis work, my job, my husband, my kids, my house, my car, my wardrobe, my hair, my cats, me....EVERYTHING! All I can tell you is that this too will pass. You will be so relieved when it's all over. And then about a couple of months later you will be bored out of your gourd.
