Anyone Struggle Watching Your Family Eat?
Arabesque replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I guess it depends on what the family likes to eat & what your old favourites were that may tempt you. I only have to cook for myself but every couple of weeks or so I spend the weekend with my mother & do the cooking.(She’s 82 & doesn’t always cook or eat well for herself anymore.) In the first year, I remember her emotionally saying she didn’t know what I ate anymore & what she had to buy. The irony was I did the shopping & we ate the same things with maybe the odd slight difference. Like she’d have potatoes but I wouldn’t. She’d have dessert but I wouldn’t. Never had to cook separate meals right from soft foods. I’ve also had impromptu meals with friends & their family & my siblings & their children without issue except I have to say no if they’re making pasta (unless I can have the sauce separately). When you’re on soft or solid foods can you modify some family favourites - swap out cooking methods, swap some ingredients, reduce the fat content, etc. - to make healthier, more nutritious meals to benefit everyone & that complement your eating plan? -

Psychology appt anxious
suzannethemom replied to thinblueline's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was super nervous as well. The psychologist asked me questions about being overweight, how long have I struggled with my weight, what are my eating patterns, and what is my activity level. Then he asked me about bariatric surgery, why I think it’s a good option, what kind of support system do I have at home and what are my expectations and goals. I took the MMPI test and a psychological evaluation exam online about a week later. Then I met with the psychologist a second time to discuss my test results. Then he approved me for surgery at the end of the appointment. -
keep postponing to start my preop liquid diet.
liveaboard15 replied to Walktoseetheroad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The length depends on your BMI. Some people can do 1 week. While others like myself needed 2 weeks. Worst thing that can happen is you get in that operating room and they open you up and end up closing you back up without doing anything because the liver was too big. I did 2 weeks. Yea its hard at first but after 3-4 days it gets easier. and as for coffee. While every surgeon is different. I was specifically told not to give up coffee during this time. that the pre op diet would be hard enough. I was free to drink coffee tho they said to use sugar free creamer. Also ask your bariatric team. While mine was liquid. They did say if i was struggling too much i could have 1 small meal a day of lean meats like chicken/fish 2-3oz and 2-3oz of certain veggies. (I did Sockeye salmon and asparagus) -
Hi I am always worried about weight gain after my surgery I am 4 months post op , and there's days that go by and I only eat very few calories but all from healthy foods and there is usually one day out of the week that I feel that I m like a little piggy , and I m scared to death to get on the scale the next day but it's CRAZY because instead of gaining any weight I actually usually loose more? Has anyone else been seeing this? Sent from my REVVL V+ 5G using BariatricPal mobile app

keep postponing to start my preop liquid diet.
Crisscat replied to Walktoseetheroad's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My experience for myself was the first 3 days were a challenge but after about day four I was doing really good. By the time of my 2nd week I wasnt even hungry and just finished out the week. We'd all like to think it can be easy but its not when first starting out. Hang in there and you should be able to conquer it. I was a big Dt Coke drinker and I had to let that nemesis go. By the 2nd week I had no desire to drink Dt Coke. That made me happy -
keep postponing to start my preop liquid diet.
Walktoseetheroad posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 10 days away from my surgery I am having difficulty sticking on my my fluid diet since I heard you can shrink your liver in one week. I keep postponing my start and enjoy stuff I wouldn't be able to eat after surgery. 😕 How are you guys doing or how you did it? P.S Being without coffee is the hardest, I could do coffee and water for 2 days straight. -
As I mentioned in my post this is what my surgeon follows not every surgeon follows this rule. She prefers her patients do the 2 week liquid diet for optimal results. I never said this is what all surgeons follow I clearly stated this is the route my surgeon requires. You are following your surgeons guidelines just as I followed mine!

What is your current BMI? I got down close to my goal and stalled and then gained and it was the end of my weight loss. If you aren’t close to goal though it could just be a fluctuation. A three pound gain could be anything. Small fluctuations like that happen. For me when I eat carbs especially. It’s water weight and it goes away after a couple days without carbs. Are you still tracking what you eat? If you haven’t reached your bodies happy weight or accidentally put yourself into maintenance by increasing calories it is just a fluctuation. Time will tell.

I will eat real food again right?
mizzkp replied to Kmack2015's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes you will eat again! I’m 9 weeks post op and I’m not cleared for a full diet but I still get to eat things that I enjoy and still fit my program. Just hang in there. Time moves so fast so take it one day at time. Once you start to loose the weight it will help motivate your brain to just keep going. -
I am a 69 y/o female that had VSG on 8/10/21. I am a slow loser, I have lost 51 pounds. I have gained 3 lbs back. Depressed also have eaten some high carb foods, but have gotten back on diet. Am retired not alot of physical activity. I do try to ride stationary bike. Any other people that are having similar problems? Would appreciate any advice on breaking stall.

I'm not happy about no caffeine either but I understand why. I'm worried about being around people while I am in pain, I do not do well with people helping me. My doctor said 2 weeks minimum but I am hoping less as I'd rather use my PTO for other things. lol😂 -

Soaking in a tub after sleeve surgery
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon said no pool for 2 weeks, no hot tub or bath for 4 weeks. If your surgeon said to wait 2 weeks, I would wait the 2 weeks. You only have 4 days to go, but there's a reason they say to wait. I wouldn't chance it. -

Thanks, y’all! Very good point about the water! I’ll probably hold off until my 6 weeks post are up - just to be on the safe side. -

Day 3 post op and protein shakes?
ShoppGirl replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you on full liquids? I was when I left the hospital as well but not everyone is. If your not it won’t kill you to miss your protein goal by a little bit for a couple of days. Some people struggle for weeks and they are ultimately okay. I wouldn’t advance the diet faster than my team suggests. -

Day 3 post op and protein shakes?
liveaboard15 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was on full liquids once i left the hospital so i started the protein shakes when i got home. It was hard at first. Found it was a bit easier to pour the shakes into those little 1 ounce cups and take shots like that lol I used Premier shakes and Boost Glucose control shakes during those 2 weeks after the hospital. -

I was just curious at what others did. Everyone has different rules. So I was wondering if anyone was told it was ok to bathe early then 2 weeks. But it's looking like my surgeon rule isn't as long as y'all's. -

I was told I think 4 weeks for bathing or pools. They want to make sure your incisions are fully healed. Why don't you call your surgery center to confirm? -

scared...what will happen when I'm an old lady??
lizonaplane replied to traceymmm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This will definitely have to change. I would highly recommend that you work on changing this (start eating three meals a day and drinking regularly) as soon as possible, so it's a habit BEFORE you have surgery. After surgery, you will have a lot to focus on, and trying to change bad habits is hard. -

Seriously you gave me such a chuckle because that is exactly the kind of thing I worry about. Pre WLS I was a Coke Zero fiend. I drank like a 12 pack a day (so yes you can live without water I’m proof). Anyways, as I left from visiting my grandma in her nursing home each week I would begin to wonder about things like how will I get my Coke Zero and my snacks since I do not have kids. I was glad when Walmart delivery started in my area because a lot of times Amazon is out of Coke Zero and I will be counting on those services someday to get my stuff. PS you don’t have to continue on protein shakes but some of us choose to stay on one a day even after it’s required but don’t worry Amazon delivers these as well 🤣 -
Ok, so here's some SUPER flattering pics lol
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not super familiar with sleeve surgeries but I suspect the larger incision is where the surgeon pulled the discarded part of the stomach out, resulting in pressure and manipulating the tissues around it. I bet that's why it's more painful than the others. I suspect this time next week you will feel so much better. Happy healing! 🤗
