Morning ladies. Trying to keep my mind off my upcoming appointment. I get so nervous. I know I'm going to do a horrible job advocating for my son. I have such conflicting emotions when it comes to him. There's the mom side, that wants my son to be taken care of, hugged, loved, happy, not picked on...and then there is the educator side that says he needs to accept responsibility, grow up, not make excuses, pushed....oh Lord, give me strength. Karla, this is going to be long, but here are some of my ideas. Some of my best meals are just meat. Costco has some AWESOME chicken sausages, I think they are Emeril, but not sure. They are lower fat, and sooooo good. I can eat one, cut small, chewed well, dipped in some honey mustard. And usually I'm full after that. They are precooked so if I don't want to or can't turn on the grill, they can be heated in the micro. Pork tenderloin is another great one. Sear it, put it in a pan with some great spices, onions, mushrooms...bake. Again, a couple of slices completely fills me up. Grilling season is upon us, and that means I'm going to LOVE my meat again. As for salad, I love my dressing too, but if I eat my meat first, and then dish my salad, I still put all the good stuff on it, I just don't have room for very much. My salads have lettuce, broc, cauli, mush, carrots, radishes, sunflower seeds, LF cheese, and then something crunchy for "crouts". Usually I can get in about 4 forkfuls...and even covered in dressing, that's not a lot of calories. Oh...cottage cheese, a definite staple. I can't do the lowfat stuff though, 2% is as low as I can take it. My evening snack, when I'm being good, is a cup full of Kashi Crunch. I can eat it dry like a bowl of nuts, but it has super protein...and great crunch. It gives me hand to mouth and a similar feeling to eating chips or something. Always measure it out though and put it in a bowl...otherwise I could eat half a box without realizing it. Wraps are another favorite of mine. I put down some kind of "dressing" a layer of meat, LF cheese, and then my salad mix. Makes a really good filling meal. One wrap usually lasts me two meals. I don't eat the curled in ends though, too much tortilla. For that chocolate fix that Candice was talking about, at the site where I get my proticcino, they have some pretty good protein cocoa. I LOVE the amaretto and the mint choc. It gives me choc. AND 15g protein (if I remember correctly) for only 100 cals. The other thing I do to help me is when I set the table, I put out EVERYTHING. Pickles, cottage cheese, fresh fruit, fresh veggies, anything good for me that is in the fridge. Then when I'm done with my protein whatever and my veggies, if I still think (and the operative word IS think) I'm still hungry, all that good stuff is sittting there. The other positive, is that my family eats more of that good stuff. Candice, no wii fit until doc says it's okay. I'm ONLY cleared to walk. I thought I would try the step aerobics but just that little step could hurt something Jeff says. I LOVE the boxing and the step aerobics. I can't do the yoga but when I get clearance I'm going to try again. Some of the ways they bend and such I can't do with my back, but know I need to. So for now, it's just my scale. I'll let you know when I'm cleared though and I'll challenge you. hmmm....there was something else I was going to say. .... hmmmm...Oh. my post from last night is lost out there in cyber space somewhere.... I walked 5.5 miles last night. 5 of it in the rain!! I am so proud of me. Of course my walking buddy is the only reason I did it. She said "Rain never killed anyone, we'll be fine." And so off we went. at 1/2 mile the rain started. We walked past my house, I could have stopped, but continued another loop! My shoes and socks were squishy, I was soaked, it was only about 45...but I walked it. So that was a major NSV for me. I know there is something else but I'm not finding it in my brain. I'd better stop now. Have a good day ladies. I'll update you on the SPED meeting. Keep sending me positive thoughts. I'll need them!

Ya! Another NSV!! A couple weekends ago I bought an XL dress for my friends wedding. Well I was trying it on the other night and it had become too big. I had to go to the store and exchange it out for a Large! I was stoked!!!!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Lynn....sorry you are so frustrated. I too am at a stand-still on the weight loss front. I am embarking on 3 days of liquids starting today. Protein shakes and Water. To try to jump start things. I was doing really well with the South Beach induction, but I have a really hard time digesting hard Proteins, so it was really difficult for me to stick to. Once I learned about why I am having such a hard time with meat, I stopped, because I was really hurting myself. So now I will try the Protein Shakes.....I guess what I'm trying to say is change things up a bit. Keep track of everything. You will get past this. I totally understand your frustration. Amanda....I have been getting in at least 20 minutes of walking/running/jogging a day AND a 20 minute session of "Crunchless Abs"....(which is a very good program BTW) I am really proud of myself for this! I do my cardio either on my treadmill....in bad weather...or with my 8 yr old son at the school yard while the little one's play on the playground. Hope....Congrats on the NSV. Amazing isn't it. I had a patient hit on me last month. It was so funny to be flirted with. I really enjoyed it....I can't believe I feel cute again at almost 39 yrs old! Diva... sounds to me like you don't need a fill. Maybe a tiny un-fill...but that's up to you. I too had a very fickle band. Some days I could eat anything and others I could eat very little. I found it very, very important to remember that after a PB episode you are supposed to do 2 days of liquids to let your stomach settle down. Have you had your 1 yr post OP esophogram? That will tell about any slippage and can check for other problems. Christine

    Reality Check!!

Lol, that's definitely an NSV!! The finale to the Biggest Loser (Australian version) was on last night. Seeing all the contestants before and afters, it totally blew my mind that I've lost as much as most of them. So those INCREDIBLE transformations- I've made one too. I just dont see it everyday in the mirror. I am happy with what I see, for sure, but I'd love love love to really SEE myself like that - the way others see me.

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hi Shamrocks! Interesting new look for the website....or maybe my computer has gone wonky.... NSV - I was waiting at the deli for my order and I had my sons Snacks on the counter. The cashier walked up and I stepped back and said, "I'm just waiting for my deli order". The next person in line went. Then there was a nice looking man after her. The lady brought out my deli order and he smiled and said go ahead hun. (I'm loving that I get SEEN now!) wasn't that nice? I'm glad I can eat food now. Everytime I wonder if I have a band, it reminds me.... LOL, I hope I stop wondering! PBs are just nasty!

    May 2007 Banders

After a 7 month hiatus and recomital to my band lifestyle, I'm now seeing results again. It's been exactly one week since I had a fill and I'm down 2 lbs. Whoot Whoot! On another note, I had a NSV as well. While taking a shower this morning, I noticed that I had a bicep. I'm excited to see results from my bootcamp class. Never in a million years would I have thought there would be muscle underneath ALL this FAT! I was in such amazement. Cant wait for the new session to start again next week.

    Nsv!

Today I had a huge NSV! I went to Talbots to get some spring clothing...for the last 12 years I've had to go to the 'Women's Section' and was wearing up to a size 20. Today I realized that the women's section was not working for me, and I went to the regular section. I tried on a size 14 dress, and to my utter surprise, it was loose! I really thought I was trying it on just to see how much longer it would be before I might fit in it! After that, I went to Ann Taylor and tried on several pairs of size 14 pants! I didn't buy anything yet, but will be shopping again tomorrow!

Well i finally have a NSV worth posting about!!!! I went shopping yesterday and i went into GAP and just for the hell of it i picked up a size 12 in pants to try it on. and it FIT!!!!!!! OMG it FIT!!!!!so after the initial excitement i looked at the price tag . Normally that kinda price would have me putting the jeans back but i felt so happy to fit into them i didn't care!!! i bought them with a smile on my face. i think the cashier thought i was drunk or something. i was so giddy when i was buying my new size 12 jeans.

    Calling all April Bandsters!!!!

Hi Gwenn - I'm here!! Back from the land of flu hell, well mostly back. Still feeling pretty weak. The flu bug attacked late Tuesday night and I've been down and out since then. You're such an encouragement. It's fun to see your weight loss ticker edging closer to 100 pounds lost. I can hardly wait to sign in and see that! Bea - Holy buckets!!! I made my way back through the past weeks posts and I didn't recognize your photo. I thought to myself, "wow, she's pretty. I'm glad she's joining our group." Then I read your post and realized it was you. You look fantastic!! I hope you're doing well with your 30# goal. Mom - How's the tightness? Is the reflux letting up? Carol - I'm sorry you're disappointed right now. I think you're stuck in Bandster Hell again - something we all assumed we would only go through once. You can do it!!! Hang it there, the fills will come over time and your band will start working with you again. It was so warm here a few weeks ago (low 80's for a few days), but this week is low 50's all week. I'm so upset. I really missed my twice daily walks, because it got me out of the house and away from the food when I started to slip during the fill process. I hope you have a wonderful week, with lots of SV and NSV! I hope everyone is doing well. I'm not on Facebook, but it seems like I may join just to chat with all of you! You're such an encouragement for me, I really appreciate it. Have a great week - let's make this next year beyond our wildest dreams.

    Daily News!

Good Morning Junies.. Back to work and the daily grind. We had a great weekend camping! I really needed some down time. I am burnt but relaxed! I hope everyone had a great weekend! I wanted to share a NSV.. I got whistled at 2 times and I got a "hot damn" from a homeless man on friday. I was pretty excited! LOL.. it's the little things in life!
  14. Way to go JT! Your first NSV!!! You described Bandster Hell to a 't'. Remember that many gain weight during this period and many more stay the same. If you can lose, even slowly, before the first couple of fills gives you restriction, then your doing better than most as it's all up to you at this point. Remember, we're not RNY patients...it takes several fills before the band really begins to help us at all. Hang in there...we'll all be twiddling our thumbs impatiently together!

    Non-Scale Victories Thread

After my 2 weeks off of school(teacher) because of hospitalization-kidney stones and 10 days Spring Break I went back to school - decided to wear a t-shirt that actually fit me .... well, my first class,6 children every 1/2 hour - I'm a kindergarten reading teacher, came in. One of my little guys gave me the once over. You could just see his eyes go over me from head to toe and then back to my face...he looked a little perplexed...then he said, "Are you getting skinny are what?" Later, that day a second grade teacher came over and had to tell me a conversation with one of my former students that is now in her class. Her conversation went like this..."This morning when we were waiting for our special class in the hall and you stopped and talked to them, well after you left B---- asked me "Is it just me, or is Mrs. B losing a lot of weight?". I do parent pick up duty everyday and I am having a lot of them ask me about my weight. This has just started happening because I'm pulling out spring clothes from a longgggggg time ago (over 10 years) and wearing clothes that are fitting and showing off my 83 lb. loss. I never throw anything away so I do have a new-old wardrobe. All this sounds great, right? Well, I do have some worries....that I'd like some help on.....My history tells me when I lose weight enough for people to notice...I have always in the past started to slip off the program...I don't know why? Is it I'm being successful so I don't have to try so hard and give myself permission....Am I feeling uncomfortable with the Personal attention (although I'm a pretty outgoing person). This time I am changing my lifestyle - Exercise and not as obsessed with eating...I guess I keep saying this is too good to be true...when is this going to end. I still have 100 lbs to lose ... I have been very true to the lapband rules and measuring my food until just recently have slipped acouple of times... This is scary for me.... This my not be the right thread for this conversation but along with NSV and being motivated because they did bring a smile and good feeling to me...comes my insecurities. Please share thoughts, experiences, or suggestions. Thanks Deb PS I'm having a hard time getting rid of my too big clothes.

    Friday Morning Weigh-in, April 24th

I am 2 lbs (almost 3 but I don't record the decimal) down this week. I am doing the Happy Dance. That is the best week that I have had since September. I think recording my food on MyDailyPlate is really helpful. I am also working out more and harder. I did a frontal workout yesterday with a Jillian Michael's DVD and I am sore from the waist up today but I think that is great. I also had an NSV that is significant to me. My 16 year old daughter is slightly overweight and has Pervasive Developmental Delays. She has lost 10 lbs (down to 170 from 180) since I got my lapband. She is not really dieting but we are all trying to be wiser about our food and exercise choices and it is paying off for her.

    Hang in there until...

It's finally happening! Had my monthly appt with my band doctor yesterday (the awesome Dr. Duffy at Yale New Haven Hospital's Bariatric Surgery office), and I was down 11 pounds! :w00t: I update my ticker in my email signature more often than every month, so it reflects my total loss, but I was so excited that I'd lost 11 pounds in one month I was ready to scream with joy! And guess how I did it? By following the bandster rules! Being careful to choose nutrient-dense food instead of calorie-dense food, chewing thoroughly and eating slowly, not drinking my calories, and avoiding "slider" foods that don't stay with you long enough to indicate a feeling of fullness. Amazing how well the rules work when you follow them LOL Combine that with a few well-placed NSV's regarding clothing, and it's been a really good period. My latest weigh-in this morning has me at 230 lbs, a number I haven't seen for at least 10 years...I'm really excited about that! Next mid-range goal - making it to 200 lbs by the time of my family reunion in Florida in July. Next short-range goal - dropping another 15 pounds before May 30th to put me at 215 before Memorial Day. Swimsuit season is looking like it's going to hold a lot less terror for me this year than in previous years - that's a definate plus! What made the difference? Regular exercise and eating correctly. Mostly the eating correctly, since I already walk 30 minutes 5 days a week, with longer walks on the weekends (weather permitting). Now I'm going to add some weight work back into my schedule - nearly done with this semester's classes, which will give me more time. I need to keep 'tightening up' my physique, which I know weight training will do. Check in again in a few weeks - until then, if you are already banded, follow the rules and move more - that's the "secret" to success! If you are not yet banded, get the info you need to make a quality decision, and then GO FOR IT! Your life, your health and your happiness can all be enhanced by losing the excess weight. I know it's happening for me...

    Nsv!!

Most of us had some weight lost before surgery. I had to do the 6 month diet (lost 10lbs) plus the pre-op liquid diet (lost 25 on that--I find I do boring really well, and that is about where I would file the choices on the liquid diet). The rest has come off since surgery. I have reached my goal weight and now I fluctuate from 147 to 150-151. I sure can't complain. My latest NSV came the other night when I was taking clothes out of the dryer. I held up a pair of size 10 pants and thought, "Wow, my butt actually fits in these!" I was wearing women's 22 (2x in scrubs, which I wear for work). In scrubs I now wear size small in pants and medium tops. Not a bad way to go. I am a bit broke from buying clothes but it is a good broke, let me tell ya!

    Nsv!!

I'm 6 weeks post surgery, down 29 pounds and had my first fill of 3 cc in my 10 cc band yesterday. Had to go shopping for a dress for my stepson's wedding and I walked out of the store with a dress 2 sizes smaller!! I first took my "old" size in the dressing room, then asked hubby for a size smaller, and finally another size smaller. I couldn't believe all the dresses I was trying on were 2 sizes smaller! I also bought a new pair of jeans, a top, and undies (all 1 size smaller). Talk about feeling on top of the world! My doc says not to buy too many clothes because they won't fit for long. From his mouth, to God's ear.
  21. DivaStyleCoach

I hate it when people post just to post.....

PJTP... Oh yeah! :tt2: :tt1:  Blessing, good thoughts and speedy surgery to you, Susan. I hope it all works out for the best and that you're feeling much, much better soon! You go girl! NSV report - I got into (and am comfortably wearing) a size 18, non-stretch skirt that I bought many years ago and just kept in the closet "just in case". Not only did it fit when I put it on this morning, I'm small enough that I'm not threatening to bend the hook and eye at the waist or pop the zipper! :w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t: Doc visit went well - I've got clearance to continue on my own and check in when my rate of loss slows down or I feel extra hungry. I'm feeling pretty darn good this morning because I lost 11 pounds since I saw the doc! That's not exactly in my ticker - I update it more often than I go to the doc - but it's a victory just the same! Swimsuit season will hold much less terror for me this year if this keeps up!!! :cool2:

    skinny??? who me...lol??????

Okay for me getting hit on is the best NSV - as a teen/young adult I was Almost Never Hit on!! What a great day for you!!
  23. I am a little old for truck drivers to be flirting with me, but I take my NSV where I find them. The other night I was taking clothes out of the dryer, and I held up a pair of new size 10 pants I had just dried and I had to remark to myself, "Wow, my ass actually fits in these pants!" I was a women's 22 before surgery.
