When did you really start to see results?

So I too had lost 10 pounds in the pre-op liquid diet and felt good to be at 223, then I had surgery and my bp dropped post-op, so I stayed a few more days in the hospital and pumped full of fluids 😩, gained up to 249 pounds 😭now home for 2 weeks and just got back down to 223 pounds so hopefully the weight will start to drop

    Plateau since month 6

Screwballiski I think u have it down. It’s constant diligence and give a little, get a little . I want to lose my last 10 and I am going to have to tighten things up and review every morsel that goes in my mouth ! Not fun but necessary !
  3. You can possibly lose your gall bladder anytime you lose a large amount of weight in a short period of time. I lost mine years ago after I lost 80 lbs on the Atkins diet and xrays revealed I had 10 gall stones so it had to go.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

So my before weight at its highest was: 310.2 Highest weight - Jan, 19. 293.3 Morning of Surgery - 10/4/19 294.4 4 days after surgery - 14/4/19 So I’m up a little since the morning of surgery. Can’t wait to see it going down! So inspired by people on here and the steps they are taking. Also inspired by a few Instagram wls people and following some who have achieved their goals and others who are closer in surgery date like we all are. I’m clearly having a very happy and excited day for us all! I’ve been hiding at home and not living and feel relieved at the prospect of being more confident, social and who I really am again. The last four years have been my hardest and taken a massive toll on me and it feels so amazing to finally see a big light at the end of the tunnel. I’ll keep the feeling of this day to remember when it gets tougher later on or things are slow or there’s disappointment. Thanks for bearing with me while I’m sharing my feelings.
  5. Omg y’all. Tonight my husband and I sat down for dinner. We shared an order of general tso. I ate two bites of egg roll, two balls of chicken and prob a 1 1/2 tbls spoon of rice. Number one, poor choice in a high fat dinner, was hungry so ate too fast and ate too much apparently. Suddenly I felt this sudden nausea hit me hard!! Feels terrible and like the food comes all the way up to my throat. I am 10 mos out and haven’t over ate before....guess this is what it feels like?!! Omg horrible. How long til this goes away?!!! I have not thrown up but feel nauseous.
  6. I am 10 days post op and I have had ZERO issues. Even in the hospital things moved along smoothly. Maybe it’s my own head just expecting it but I feel like this should be more complicated. Anyone else just have a fantastic experience? The worst pain I’ve had is from the blood thinner injections. Swelling and bruising that just won’t quit. Even nausea, I’m expecting that to kick in any moment. I know so many people struggle and I guess I have psyched myself out. Anyone else have smooth transitions?

Over 65 VSG start 3 month diet requirement

Still learning how to use the forum. I am 67 and weigh 260. Yes I am freakin short too, barely 5 ' .Struggle all of my life. Lost 130 pounds once kept off for a few years and have gained it back. How many things in life I have missed out on because of my weight. I live alone and really do not have others to talk to about my new journey. I am next facing visit with nutritionist to start 3 month diet.I am told this is strictly for insurance.I sort of, well actually resent being told to diet.Hey I have done enough of that and don't make a decision at 67 to go under the knife in a frivolous manner. I will look at it as a positive to see what I can learn. Already I feel better having had a few responses from this forum group as I am on my journey alone. I have chose to only tell two friends who do not judge. I want the next 10 years of my life to be joyful and not feeling isolated and judged because I am fat. Thanks for your kind words guys.

    Non Scale Victories

I’ve been struggling the last few weeks as the numbers are flat gain flat gain loss ... rinse and repeat. But I keep going back to how clothes that a few weeks ago were tight in the legs, belly or arms are now plenty comfortable and are not tight or pulling. I’m wearing heels regularly and my feet aren’t angry at me. I get antsy if I haven’t been active and look forward to moving my body with a walk/workout etc. The weird one is recognizing I’m now thin enough (size 10 US) that thin privilege is real and a total mind frak. I’m no longer invisible in public and that’s just really odd to have the shift in under a year.

    Measurements and hunger post op?

I think I drank them in about 5-10 minutes. I'm realizing that my surgeon has told me literally nothing and I'm learning everything on my own and from the internet. I know it's my responsibility to ask him but sometimes I don't know what to ask and I barely see him for a few minutes and he runs off. I'm scared my stomach stretched and ruined the whole purpose of the surgery.

    April buddies?

Hi. My surgery for gastric sleeve is scheduled for April 22nd, 2019. Endoscopy and upper GI scheduled for next week. I am nervous but excited to finally get a push start to a new life.
  14. Hello everyone. Ever since surgery ive been trying to feel full but i’m not feeling full at all no matter what i eat so i was worried and googled it and found out that I dont feel full because of nerve damage in my stomach so i’m supposed to be measuring everything (2 oz per meal) I didnt know this and i’ve been drinking a full cup of milk, a bowl of soup, pudding, a protein shake and a bunch of stuff and sometimes all at once. It’s been all liquids so i thought that maybe its all just sliding through and thats how it fits but after reading all that stuff online im very worried. I cant feel anything but if im supposed to be eating/drinking 2 oz per meal and ive been doing at least 10+ oz something must be wrong right? Or is it different for liquids? Thoughts?

    Hi

It's normal. I felt like xrap and was sore for 10 days and it gets so much better. Hang in there!
  16. I wanted to see if anyone else has had similar issues with CHI Franciscan in Federal Way, WA. Google reviews indicate this might be a common issue. First everyone there has been incredibly nice and they were very helpful in getting my pre op requirements scheduled and completed. That part was a breeze. I completed everything March 15th. 4 weeks ago today. I was told they would submit as soon as they got the psych eval which was done 3/15. 3/20 which was the next Wednesday I was told they had everything and would submit to insurance 3/21 and that I should have an approval and a date in 2 weeks or a denial but I would know either way. They assured me they would call me. I have to date not gotten a single call from them. I've had to make calls. 3/27 I called my insurance and they hadn't gotten anything. I called back to the surgeon's office and they said they had sent it but since the insurance hadn't gotten it they would resubmit. 4/5 I found through my online portal for my insurance company that my insurance had approved my surgery. Last Friday I thought I would have a date by now. I hadn't heard anything by Wednesday 4/10. So I called my insurance. They told me they had both faxed and emailed my approval to the surgeon's office. I called the surgeon's office and the receptionist said I had to leave a message with the coordinator so I did. I gave her until today to return my call and she did not. I left her a voicemail early this morning and again late this afternoon. No return call. I understand they are busy but this is frustrating to not get a call back to let me know if they received it or not. I hear people getting dates pretty quickly after insurance approval so I feel like this is abnormal but I could be wrong. Their website says "We can usually schedule surgery immediately upon approval of insurance or after financial arrangements are made. When we obtain approval, we will contact you to determine if and when you are ready to schedule surgery. From that time, surgery can be within the next two months or at your convenience." I thought once my insurance approved it I would get a date fairly quickly not be stuck waiting for returned phone calls
  17. Well I know during the two days before surgery clear liquid diet my aunt on the first day she ate some Mole and a chicken foot. And after she finished it she told our family friend to quickly run to the store and by her the liquid laxative. So that she can EMPTY her stomach bruh 😂. She also drank a premier protein vanilla drink on Sunday when surgery was on Monday 4/8/19 . She was like look Imah put mad water now it looks more clear 🤦‍♀️😅😂 well all I can say was that she had the surgery done. I was worried she wasn’t going to get it, since she also chewed on some corn bread and then spit it out before being able to swallow it. She had me stressed for her during this two week semi liquid diet before surgery. Especially because she had to pay out of pocket
  18. I’ve read some old threads on post op pain, but for those who are going through this right now (mine was 4/10), how is your pain? I feel like yesterday (day after surgery) was excruciating. Today may be mildly better, but I want to cry every time I stand up/sit down or walk. I have a high pain tolerance, so this is freaking me out a bit. I anticipated more soreness than pain. I have some pressure from gas, but it’s really the left side of my abdomen near the incision where the stomach was taken out that’s killing me. I’m also constantly sipping during a hours when I’m awake. Everything burns going down. Milk may be the easiest to drink. I am definitely not hitting water and protein goals because I am going so slowly, as hard and I’m trying.

    Will it get easier?

Hello everyone, I had the gastric sleeve done on March 25, 2019. I'm post op day 18 and having a really hard time adjusting. I am at the stage where I can eat mushies and that has been going slightly well. Still very thirsty though. I'm following my diet plan but my mind and heart are really struggling with this new lifestyle. I can't help but think about pizza and sodas. I don't feel much hunger.. just mostly cravings if that makes sense. It came to a point where I cried really hard to my support system which they have been nothing but outstanding. Everyone knew that I was absolutely in love with my body. I loved every inch of my body. However, the harm I was causing myself really scared me and lead me doing the surgery. Now, seeing the weight leave my face and back really hit me hard. I just want to know.. does it get easier? Will I be allowed to eat anything with sugar? I appreciate all the answers. Thanks. April Sleeve Surgeries!! 2019

I’m from NYC and I had my VGS on April 8. I ain’t gonnah lie my stomach was hurting, I guess it was stomach gas pain. I didn’t fell pain from the incisions. The two days and night I stood at hospital I had horrible nausea that I would make the motion of a person vomiting but nothing came out. That motion would make my stomach hurt. Them doctors must have given me pain medicine threw IV 10 times. When I tell you your stomach gas pain hit you, they hit hard. One nurse was taking my blood pressure at same time I started getting stomach gas pain. My blood pressure went up fast to 256. I told her it’s because if they pain. She waited until the pain finish and took blood pressure again and it went down to 106. I also remember them giving me a lot of nausea medicine but then suckers didn’t work. So they used a different one and that was God sent. The people who got same surgery as me and my aunt, none of us left home on the second day. We all stayed and left the third day cause them pains were intense. But when I got home the pain was nearly gone. I feel much better don’t get a nauseas as before. But man I did have a lot of phlegm. The whole two days I arrived home I was spitting phlegm Filled up a whole cup. But today I haven’t spit phlegm so that’s good. It gets better as the days go bye. Oh and I am able to drink water from the little cups they gave more frequently. I know some people get nervous when they are about to get put under for surgery. Can’t lie I was a little worried, but man I was so sleepy that my worries left me and I told the surgery people to just knock me out because I’m about to knock out myself since I’m so sleepy. Anyway I pray both your surgeries go well and successfully. That you have a great recovery. And if it hurts ask for them pain meds cause they help.

    April 2019 Surgeries!

    Surgery days is 4/17/19
  22. I had the lap band for almost 10 years and it quit working the last 4 years with big problems. The tubing was rubbing the vagus nerve and eventually led to A-flutter. Now I'm pursuing the sleeve. I am struggling to not gain all of the weight. I'm using a Fitbit and My Fitness Pal. I have put on a lot of weight, and all I want is the freedom of movement back. Interested in hearing any feedback.
  23. So my surgery date is 4/19 but had to be cancelled. I'm currently in the emergency room now. I have a really bad eye infection (conjuvitis), throat is red and swollen smh. My entire body is weak and in pain. Doctor gave me antibiotics and a strong dose of ibuprofen just now plus some to take home!!!!. Called my team and they said surgery had to be cancelled. A little disappointed but I know it's for the best!!! Sent from my SM-G925T using BariatricPal mobile app

  25. IMHO, docs (surgeons) and RDs don't always level with us as pre-op patients. They do this not due to malicious intent, but because everyone is so unique. So is their journey. We each have to hack our own body to understand what we have to do to be successful in this journey. The things that helped me: 1. Don't overeat. Just. Don't. Do. It. - It's not worth it. Follow your surgeon's and RD's instructions for food VOLUME at each stage of your diet progression. This is important cuz VOLUME is king! It really is. I go so far as to place a 1cup measuring cup on my food scale and measure my cubed or ground protein into the cup. The room that's left gets filled with al dente veggies. When that food in the cup is gone, there are NO seconds. The meal is over. You stop if you are full or the hunger is gone--even if you still have some of your 1cup left. Put it away immediately. Give yourself a 20 minute limit for eating using small utensils and concentrating on chewing each bite fully and completely. Put your spoon or fork down between meals. NO SLIDER FOODS/MEALS. 2. Don't drink and eat. Evs. Try to hold out 1 hour or 2hours after a meal. It will help keep food in your tool longer. 3. Focus on separate foods: dry grilled lean means, dry al dente veggies with lots of fiber, 1tsp of healthy fats per meal OR 1oz of avocado OR 1/2oz of nuts OR 1tbsp nut butter. No meat lube! (no gravy, sauce, dressings on your meat) 4. No snacking between meals unless you aren't meeting your protein goals in 3 meals. If you need to, plan "scheduled" mini meals between your 3 meals. 5. Eat plainly. Simple. Fresh. Try to go for "low reward foods" without a lot of "comfort" involved. 6. Avoid sugars and simple carbs. Avoid fruit while you're in the big part of your losing mode. Avoid artificial sweeteners. 7. Eliminate grains and carby stuff until you know if it helps reduce hunger and helps you lose weight. 8. Weigh, measure, log everything in MFP or your food diary. Eat ONLY to your macros. Know you macro goals for the day. 9. Weigh daily. 10. Get 100+ oz of water in per day if possible.
