    Liquid diet day 2 sucks!

GrandDaddy is so right!!! And I made a list of all the reasons why I wanted to lose Weight, and every time I wanted to eat I read my list. And I probably read that list 5-6 times an hour those first few days. I just busied myself when I felt the head hunger try and take over. The rewards are so much greater, I dropped 16 pounds on my 2 week pre-op. And I was so proud I did it. You ca do it to. I have faith in you ????good luck ????

    Is Age a factor ?

I was 63 at time of surgery. Coming close to 100# loss from my highest weight, and feeling fine. Surgery was also fine for me. Good luch as you research and make your decision!
  3. I usually think of it this way: Yes I can lose weight on a diet. The problem is that when I return to eating a regular diet the weight comes back. Its a vicious cycle that we've all been thru more than once. I chose the sleeve because I'm too tired and too old to keep fighting this battle. The sleeve will allow me to win the battle once and for all and I can begin to live my life without the weight issue always hanging over my head. Or if all else fails just say you are getting it because you want it - case closed:)
  4. I think you got some good answers here but I'd just like to add...why won't you ever be drinking or having caffeene and why do you think you'll be on a diet for your lifetime? I didn't have the sleeve because I wanted to live the diet lifestyle and I don't. I enjoy wine regularly and a cup of coffee each day (which is all I ever have had). I eat more protein than I used to, but that's the only real change I have. I can eat so little that it's pretty much impossible to gain weight even if that "little" includes things like french fries or ice cream. I can only eat about 4 fries anyhoo Since the surgery I do find that sugars are harder to consume and I keep those very low, not because my "diet" requires it, but because they don't sit well on my tummy. That's not a bad thing I'm six months out and while I regret having had this surgery due to the complications, it would not be fair for me to say that I didn't lose weight and that I have absolutely no hunger drive. I have to really think about eating because if I miss a meal I can't make it up as I used to. The loss of hunger thing is different for all of us but I know many people six months to a year out who still have no real hunger issues. Head hunger? Sure that's a demon many fight with, but real hunger...it's just not there, even when it should be.
  5. You sound like you're doing a pretty good job! It is a major undertaking to put yourself first when you have spent a lifetime doing the opposite. But you have done that and you are happy with the person you are blossoming into. Others just have to accept that. It's for them to change their response to you, not your response to them. There's a phrase I love - to make an omelette, there needs to be a frank and open discussion with the eggs! Same for you - time to calmly and quietly explain to those close that you know things are changing because you are growing as a result of your weight loss. But you still love them and value their support. Remember, this is probably difficult for them because we all get scared when someone starts to move forward - we get scared we're going to get left behind. Maybe some of your family feel like that? Or one of two might be envious of your success... Whatever you do, stay focused and talk to the people closest to you. But don't let them knock you off your new path. You are to be admired and respected for what you've done... taking care of yourself is a basic sign of moving forward. You go, lady !!!!!

    Very slow weight loss?

HI Monica. So after talking to several nutritionists specialized in bariatrics, and researching, I now made peace with the rate of my weight loss. Somebody here posted a table of weight ranges according to age and height. This also helped. I am 61 will be 62 in two months. Have had already major weightloss with my lap band years ago, so this is my second surgery. All nutritionists said these two details are a big factor that will affect my weight loss. I have now lost a total of 33 pounds in 3 months. My lab tests just came in and I am in the absolute normal range, which means no more cholesterol. No more diabetes. No more high blood pressure. This in itself is already my great victory! I now [emoji817] % fir sure that I will loose the rest 20-25 Kgs (40-45 pounds). If it takes a month longer that is also fine. My full bonus is already here, I am medicine free!! I feel great (except for the occasional gas which sometimes, drives me and my hubby crazy kkk) and hope everyone here has great success with their journey. We have all carried our weight too long with all the pain and I suffering that it involved. Now we are all getting a second lease. This in itself is a great thing. So let us all enjoy the ride. be kind and loving to ourselves and also patient with our bodies. They have endured a lot already. Lots if live to everyone. From the album: Pre-Op

June 2010. Backpacking trip with my sister in North Carolina. Thought I was going to DIE going up this mountain, but, I didn't. And it was awesome! This is something I would really love to get into after weight loss. And kayaking and canoeing.

    Lost Friendships

I used to be one of those people that thought gastric bypass was cheating too and that "those" people were weak. Turns out it has saved my life. And if I ended up losing a few friends because of it and they think I took the easy way out then so be it. This is a hard ass journey surround yourself with non judgemental people date of surgery 02/21/12 surgery weight 340 lbs. current weight 146 lbs

    Common or not

It'll settle down, maybe even stall... but don't worry - I also found it strange to see the scales going down... still do in fact! My weight loss has now evened out and I'm shifting about 1lb a week.... which as I'm only 18lbs off my surgeons target of 147lbs I'm quite happy with. The target I chose for myself is 140lbs..... so we'll see what happens with that one.

    Is Age a factor ?

I had GS 2 days after my 66th birthday. I live in southern Ohio and Medicare paid for mine. From what I've read it depends on where you live whether Medicare pays. When you go to the weight loss seminars they can tell you if Medicare pays in their practice. I have lost 85 lbs in 10 months and my diabetes has improved greatly. I went from 150 units of insulin a day to 30 units a day. It is so much easier to get around. It is great to shop in regular womens dept stores instead of plus sizes. I went from a 24/26 to a 14/16. Many other good things have come from this also. Don't let your age deter you.

    Kaiser Permanente...

Hello Everyone, Before signing on as a member of Kaiser I called their member services to find out more about the benefits and if the Lap Band surgery was covered. The benefits were explained to me and I was told that yes the Lap Band was covered. I was happy about this information and decided to sign up with Kaiser.Well after almost three months of being told that Kaiser would cover the Lap Band surgery and after I started the weight loss surgery process that Kaiser has. Now I have been told that they don't cover it. Not until I started asking for something in write did things change. I now need to know if anyone has gone through this with Kaiser and any information that you can share with me about Kaiser would help support me in my efforts to further pursue this. Thanks for your help, Karen
  18. I was banded almost a year ago. My anniversary will be June 16th. Since then I have lost around 45 pounds to get down to 175-8. I feel great and look great and am in a size 10-12. My question is this - for the last 3-4 months I haven't lost any real weight. I seem to be on this HUGE plateau. I am kinda freaking out. I want to loost my last 30-35 pounds, but it won't really budge! Is there anyone else who has had any experience with this? I have had 4 fills and still dont' feel like my restriction is where it needs to be, but for the most part I try to be good. Any info would be great!! thanks Jen

  20. Oprah did a whole show about it! Women who had WLS and had lost their weight were having affairs, clubbing with their single friends, and going wild!!! This could be an issue, especially for woman who have been obese their whole lives. I think it's a self-esteem issue if I remember correctly.
  21. JUST A LIL PAIN BUT NOT AS BAD AS I WAS THINKING! Im on full liquids and im drinking Isopure Protein drinks and Water - I was given pain meds and nausea meds too. So I'm doing great! I get lil chest pains here and there but they only last a few seconds, any of u get that post op? Is it normal? My starting weight was 347 (highest) and preop diet on my day of surgery 332 and 2 days post op 328.0 - wow !! I'm loving my sleeve !!

    Stretch Marks

Thanks! I was researching ways to prevent loose skin after weight loss and the derma rollers are supposed to help with that too since it enhances skin elasticity. Might kill 2 birds with one stone.

    March 17Th Check In

I had a loss this week - I've been bouncing around at 184.4 for quite a while but I walked every day this week, went back to liquids during the day and sensible meals at night and today I weighed in at 182.2. That is finally .4 down from my lowest weight since being sleeved so I am happy about that. Hoping that this week I'll see more loss and get down into the 170s soon! Have a great week everyone!

    5 weeks out

Think of it this way. Would you have lost 12 pounds in one month without the sleeve? It's a loss whether 12 or 30, it's better than nothing or gaining. Don't compare your loss to others. That will just frustrate you. We're all different. Hang in there! You're doing great!

    Office Party

This is when you get to exercise your will power. You don't need that food! So high calorie, high carb....think of how hard your coworkers will have to exercise to not gain weight from eating that garbage! But, if you stick to your healthy meal, you'll be golden. That's what I tell myself daily....the clinic I share office space with has been having fully catered meals all last week and all this week. pizza, Pasta, sandwiches....and I just think of how it would REALLY suck to blow my healthy eating plan by giving into a stupid craving. Side note though - you can't expect anyone to change their habits just because you have. My husband has tweaked his eating habits in support of me, but I would have never asked him to. He's not the one with a weight problem, I am. He didn't feed me food the past 8 years, I did it myself. I take full accountability so therefore I take full control now. Be strong!!
