Yes, it is permanent damage that doesn't get better, even with weight loss. It is degenerative, meaning it will continue to get worse, osteoarthritis. Both knees are bone on bone and the cartilidge is mush. So even thought I've lost over 100 lbs, the pain doesn't go away. I take the maximum amount of the anti-inflammatory pain medication Naproxen and I get shots of cortisone every two months to the day as that is the closest I can get them. The cortisone only provides relief for three weeks and then it's like someone in the universe flips a switch and they start to hurt agin. Then I have to bite the bullet for the rest of the time until I can have shots again. I was just curious if anyone else has had the same experience as me

Newly Banded -- Weight Loss Has SLOWED!
OnTheWay to Thin replied to laurenm's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is normal, your first week or so you are on liquids and it is very hard to get the necessary calories that way, once you start back on food your weight loss levels out, just keep following the program and it will start again but will be slower. If you are not using an online food journal I recommend that it counts your calories, protien and so on and gives you a good idea of what is working and not... Good luck, I hope to be on food soon too, I was just banded the 28th. -
This is my first post on this site. I've mostly been just reading what everyone else has to say for the last couple of months. I guess I thought maybe I better get some support going since my surgery is just 2 weeks away now. I can't believe it's finally here!

Help! Have to go to a business conference three weeks post op
gl12282 replied to NWJill's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At 3 weeks I could eat only extremely tiny portions of purees (and very slowly because I didn't know how much I could eat). Having a small plate with a tiny portion was essential to avoid me trying to have too much - at that point for me, less than a teaspoon more than I needed was enough to make me feel very ill. I personally would just try to stick to soup for ease of what to say (and the importance of sticking to your plan and not ending up eating too much). What you eat will look less 'odd' than trying to eat a tiny portion of something. I ate soup at work for a while rather than purees/soft foods while I went through that stage for that reason. Remember that this is your choice and no-one else's business. This phase will pass. They probably won't remember it and you will reap the benefits. Hope all goes well. Need some pounds gone...
LapBandBobbi replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all, don't compare yourself to others. If you're losing 1-2 lbs / week, you're doing fine. Don't try to over do it by going on a liquid diet. This is a lifestyle change, not a diet. -
51Lbs lost since Surgery March 7th
innertube replied to innertube's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow! That's great too.. ! Congratulations..... I have been working harder on this, cause I will be seeing my husband in 5 weeks, and he doesn't know of all the new changes I have made.... I am so excited..... I am doing my own BODY MAKEOVER<! Just wish I could do the 10 years and younger show.... lol... It would be easier... I have been tanning everyday so I have gone from LILLY white to a medium tan, and I have a chemical peel appt, as well as Laser hair removal, and a Body wrap, and a custom hair appt., totally changing that, currently bleach blonde "going honey natural" and a teeth whitning.... ... This stuff is expensive, but I haven't seen my husband in 8 months... and since my life has always been about how BIG I was I figured I would treat my self.. Good luck......... and way to go on your loss...... -
Hi all, I've been lurking for a while , but now that things are finally starting to move along I'm gettting excited and nervous too. Last Wed I went for my first consult with the nutritionist, met one of the doctors, but not the doctor that will be doing my surgery, met the PA, and made my 2 months appt out for the next visit with the nutritionist. Since then I have scheduled a gallbladder ultrasound, and the psych eval., both of these for next week. From what I've read on my insurance coverage, I don't think I will have a problem with them paying, or doing a lot of jumping thru hoops. If I can just lose enough weight between now and my next nutrition appt I think things will move along pretty fast, hopefully. Now nerves are getting to me, but not too bad. Just have to keep my eye on the prize, lol. Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Lisa

Sleeved 10/21.. large incision
SDH replied to Seela's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a little over 7 weeks out and my big incision is still a little sore, I think it is from the muscle inside still healing. It doesn't hurt constantly but if I do something stupid it lets me know it's still there! -
Oh Yummmmmmmm! You are giving me head hunger!!! LOL And, it doesn't help to know that these delicious corn cakes are local. Where did you have lunch? Or, maybe I shouldn't ask... I have no restriction right now, but only two weeks until my first fill. I can't wait!

Too Much Food...way too much!
Lizadaze replied to Bobbi McGhee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a similar experience last week myself with baked fished that was way too dry. I felt horrible! I figure it is a good lesson learned cause I have definitely stayed away from over doing it since. -
How many cals do you eat daily?
GotProlactinoma replied to ElseeG's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only work out for 10-20 mins 5x a week. I eat 1000 or so cal a day at 6 months out. Still slowly losing. i only eat about 50-60 g carbs a day. 60g protein and I try for more. Over 50% of what I eat is fat. And steadily losing, no stalls longer than a week except one time around month 3. -
Hi Antbarrella. Welcome to the site. I am 3 weeks behind you. This site offers so much incredible information. Most of your questions will be answered before you can ask them if you take the time to look around and read. Check out the Do's and Don'ts list at the beginning and don't miss the hospital list. Lots of things on there I might not have thought to take along.

5 Days Post Op- Stomach Growling Like Hunger/Dr did not put me on PPI
KristenVSG2014 replied to raelynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stomach did the same thing the first few weeks. I called it "rumbles" because I could feel and hear it like a storm brewing. I'm sure now that it was acid. I also was not put on a PPI and it wasn't until 6+ weeks out that I started to have heart burn and reflux. Call your doctor and ask for a Rx or go to CVS and pick some up OTC. -
DONE with the comments!
esskay77 replied to Quest4TheNewMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the above comments. People ARE going to ask and many more people won't ask out loud but they will be wondering and possibly asking other people if they noticed, too. The first thing they might wonder is if you are sick. You don't have to give details. I don't give details to too many people. I did talk to my immediate group of people that I work with and sit near. Unfortunately, one of them told other people who then told other people. Sigh. But, if someone were to ask if this were a good thing, I would just say, yes, it was the right thing for me to do. Most people ask what it is that I'm doing (if they don't know about the surgery, and sometimes if they do know about the surgery because they really don't know how it works). I just tell them that there isn't just one thing that I"m doing. It's a combination of quite a few things, including exercising a lot and focusing on more Protein and less carbs. I don't feel the need to tell them that I had surgery necessarily. It really depends on who they are and why I think they are asking. One person had asked some vague questions and he is the only one I have felt bad about not telling because he is trying to lose weight and it may have helped him. I may still talk with him but not sure yet. The worst part for me is when I haven't lost weight in a while and they all wondering if I'm still on track. I just say that I am, though I have had a few stalls. And that's it. Luckily, most people aren't asking to be rude, they really care and want to know. Anyway, I would suggest that you have some vague comments prepared so that you can smile and answer the barrage of questions without telling them details. If they ask how much weight you have lost, just say that you are "on track" (with a smile). If they press, then say that you don't feel comfortable talking about that. Unless you do, then go for it! But, if you have some nice comments prepared, it takes the pressure off. Best of luck. I think one of the hardest things about losing weight is becoming more the center of attention. It's really only because when we are at our heaviest, we try really hard to be invisible and that becomes our comfort zone. Being uncomfortable is growth in a good way. You are really just rejoining the community and it is weird to do that. Enjoy your journey, enjoy people wanting to talk to you and taking an interest in you. It really is a good thing! -
I understand about the little things...I'm 3 weeks post-op and I've lost 30 lbs. I'm 268 now, so the loss is only obvious to me & those closest to me. When I pass a mirror, I have to peek at me! I can see my "new" face emerging. I've lost some puffiness in my face and I love it! Also, the fat roll in my neck is gone bye-bye!!!! Yay!!!

I had my surgery on march 1st so I'm almost 2 weeks post up. I have lost 15 lbs since surgery and 50 since I started on my weight loss journey in Jan 2011. When I went back to class from spring break someone said to me "Wow ur face is really slimming up" and I've also been getting so many compliments from ppl I haven't seen. I can slowly see the change in my face and body and I'm just super excited. Those little things, like comments from ppl or a glance in the mirror as you pass by feel soo good! Throughout the day I genuinely feel just more happy overall. I'm so glad I took this journey and even though it's just the start it feels so good. Just wanted to share. You guys are so inspirational and uplifting for me

Today I are at Baja Fresh and ordered the skinny wahoo fish bowl (no rice sub more beans though next time I think I will sun more veggies). It is 3 pieces of grilled mahi 2oz each and a bowl w cabbage, black beans and this really good mango salsa. It's so good. With out the rice it came to 459 calories and it lasted me three meals (lunch, snack and dinner). It's gonna be my new go-to if I have to eat out.

I was also sleeved on the 28th. I am down 15 lbs. I had absolutely no appetite at all. I t was really hard getting in the protein. I barely did. I have just been sipping water and crushed ice, jello and a couple little tiny cups of the protein drink...BLAH! But we have to do it. I just went to my 1 week appt with my suregeon ( Dr. Zane) he is awesome! He now changed my menu a bit to mushy foods like mashed potatoes, oatmeal, cream of wheat, you know baby food consistency. Thank goodness. You will be surprised the amount that you can tolerate. Not much at all. But that's ok. Just tasting something different was fabulous! Keep it up everything you are experiencing is normal. Starting my walking on the treadmill this weekend. Been walking only about 15 mins a day. I need more. Well good luck to all of us!

Me! I had the same experience after my second fill. I have a fill appointment scheduled next week, but I think I'm going to cancel. I don't want to go through that again, at least not yet! Congrats on one-derland! Tami

According to NYS disability, you need to be employed by a covered employer for at least 4 consecutive weeks to be covered by disability insurance. Has anyone here been approved or denied disability insurance for your post op recovery period?

have not loss in 2 weeks
snowbird replied to bfh5417's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight loss often happens in steps down, rather than a continual slope. If I'm constipated that also slows down the weight loss, so keep up your fluids and moving around. It's very common to hit a plateaus around this time. It will pass. I didn't lose anything from 3 to 7 weeks post surgery but now I'm losing 10 lb per month pretty steadily. -

carbs.. when are they allowed?
EllieMae replied to dacosta.juli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, how was your tummy at 3 weeks? I'm having an awful time with mine. Nothing seems to set well except liquids. I can deal with the discomfort if I have hope that I will be able to eat most anything at 8 wks.
