Dear Food, You Annoy Me

I totally understand- more than you know I understand and more than I wish I did I UNDERSTAND!!! I am to food, what a drug addict is to food and what an alcohol is to an alcoholic. I too have been going to see a counselor. I have used food as a drug of choice, a means of celebration, a way to grieve and a way to express myself, abuse myself and love myself. I have been overweight all my life. At 53 I know to well the hell that comes from obesity from infancy through midlife. I am so thankful for the lap band but it is not the end all, be all and do all. I have suffered from a twisted band because I threw up so much and had to have it redone. I still throw up often, usually from eating too fast, too often and too much. I have managed to lose 60 pounds. I had lost 80 but I have gained 20 back. I am now struggling with blood sugar problems. I have severe weak spells. This fat girl works out hard and often. I spin, do weight lifting, yoga, body pump, use various cardio machines and walk. I think I actually work out too much. I use to work out 4-5 days a week for 90 minutes. Now I am down to 3-4 days a week for 90 minutes. I would love to know if anyone works out a lot and has a problem. I am wondering if I should cut my workouts down, add fluid to my band and try to get the added weight off. I am lost, depressed, and overwhelmed. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
2. I have found that I can't drink because it burns too bad. And I loved beer, cocktails, not so much wine unless it was Lambrusco..so I have given up alcohol all together just because I can't tolerate the burn.
3. My hubby has a bypass. Half a glass of wine, and he is drunk. Is this true for sleeves as well?

Surgical Glue On Incisions

I tried everything n the only thing I found to take it off was marykay oil free eye makeup remover. It came off by just rubbing with cotton ball no scrubbing. I have very sensitive skin n the tape/ glue always takes my skin with it even alcohol or baby oil didn't help. I wore it for 15 days post op n it started looking really nasty so from the advice of a friend I tried the Mary Kay stuff. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
5. I completely understand how that could happen! A direct path to the bloodstream! Imagine how silly I looked when buying flavored lube and standing in the store reading the ingredients looking for sugar. I got a few strange looks...lol. I'm super sensitive to any sugar, I used to dump before the rny because I had my gallbladder out in 08. I can't have any sugar at all even the sugar alcohols do it. Best part is now I no longer have to find excuses not to, thanks for the info!! :')
6. All right, I'm 6 months post-op and 75 pounds lighter, which is 5 pounds below my goal weight. I'm in a size 4/XS, and I feel fabulous. I work out every day. But the last week has been BAD. I've been BAD. I'm back to my old habits, granted on a much smaller scale. It started with vacation, which was always a huge trigger for me, a passport to eat whatever I wanted and however much I wanted. The same thing happened this time, except I simply can't binge like I used to, but I can still do a lot of damage snacking and drinkning high-calorie concoctions (coffee drinks, alcohol). The thing is: I KNOW better. I do. I am informed. I GET that what I'm doing is sabotage. My hunger isn't like it used to be either, but the head hunger is rearing itself. I've gained 3 pounds, which is mostly Water weight, I'm sure, but I need to nip this in the bud NOW. Any words of advice would be much appreciated. I really just need to hear someone tell me to knock it off. I seriously will not forgive myself if I spent so much money and weeks of recovery and not have long-term success. I just can't do this again.

Banded On March 23Rd!!!!!

Hello girls! I haven't heard from any of you in a while. I hope all is well. I have to admit I've been slacking a bit. Haven't weighed myself since I went for my last fill. Eventhough, I did tell myself I would only weigh myself at the doctor's office visits anyway. But right now its more out of fear. Lol I'm afraid I probably haven't lost any weight since my last visit. I haven't been monitoring my eating too much. Not that I've been eating too poorly, but I know it could be healthier as it was in the beginning. And I've been partying. I know not good. Too much unnecessary calories wasted on alcohol. I've tried to have the less caloric drinks, but I know its still a bit foolish. I also went to Jamaica last weekend for 4 days. All-inclusive. I think that says it all. Lol. I do have to commend myself on my eaiting, however. For all-inclusive I definitely ate A LOT less than I used to on my previous trips. I wasn't choosing fatty foods. And even my boyfriend was proud that I wasn't over doing it. I was supposed to go in on Monday for another fill but my doc won't be in the office. So I have to go in on the 16th. I'm going to try my hardest to work my ass of till then. DEFINITELY don't want to embarrass myself in front of my doctor but not haven't lost anything, and worst of all, by gaining some back. Well, sorry for rambling. Hope every one had a great holiday and is keeping up a lot better than I have. LOL
8. down another pound this week......it was really hard to stay away from all the alcohol for the fourth but i managed to have only one drink, empty calories are so tempting

Regrets?

Yes you can drink alcohol but personally it isnt worth it because a) you get full to fast and you get buzzed to fast... and the only regret I have is that I didnt do it sooner- I had a horrible time recovering/increasing my foods and even with that I wouldnt go back and change a thing... Good luck!

Travel Post-Op

@BizTraveller- I work with many, many Asian clients and do lots of dinner/drinks with them and have been successful sticking to Protein elements and avoiding the alcohol durring business interactions. You are cutting it close with your dates to consume somewhat odd foods, but I suspect that a go-getter like yourself will be able to push though it. and FWIW- my experience with Singapore food is that there is a lot more fimiliar foods than unfimiliar. I started traveling for work 2 weeks post-op and did fine. I always travel with the "sample packets" from nectar and a large supply of Protein Bars. have fun!

Stomach Size- Thought This Was Crazy!

I vacillate between that little bit will be great as long as I don't have hunger- TO.. but I want a?? roll w/butter AND a salad AND a baked potato AND green beans and the WHATEVER MEAT (notice lol the protein was mentioned last-- not lost on me). Oh, and did I mention dessert? Funny thing is when I went yesterday for that last big meal (although it wasn't near what I've been capable of) I noticed my a little overweight but normal-sized friend ate the entire plate and salad while I couldn't finish at all and had a stomach ache all night (probably gallstones though). But I wondered why with my weight I've never been (compared to others) a "high volume at once" eater yet skinnier friends can eat so much more. So I guess your stomach is your stomach and it's the calories a day not a meal that determines the fatness? It's weird what you start to analyze when getting this surgery. Maybe it's also like those skinny girls who can drink tons of alcohol and not seem drunk and I was never able to drink much without feeling it. No that's different. Hmmm...this is more of a blog isn't it? I don't have much experience in these areas.
13. Did the alcohol sting? I'm scared that'll sting but I'll try it. ZGB

www.fabtofit.Blogspot.com

Everybodies Pregnant But Me

That is a good way to look at it and I try to stay positive. sometimes it doesn't help that I'm a teacher asi all these parents not taking care of their children. or sumbody who uses drugs getting pregnant or alcohol getting pregnant or just people in general getting pregnant what you know sometimes I feel what do they have that I don't. I try to stay positive but every month when my time of the month comes and goes. sometimes I get scared and, think will my husband leave me if we don't have a child.
16. I have a mastets in psychology and a phd I still believe if you don't change your mind set about food you will not be successful speaking about bobbie he is like 5 we are adults who hopefully made a responsible decision to change our lives to be healthy. Also she said she is addicted to cheetos and doritos food addiction is as real as drug and alcohol addiction would it be ok for one of them to have one drink or a little pot. Instead people need to be aware of their triggers and learn new healthy coping skills. Addicts cannot have just one of anything if that is their food or drug of choice

Sabotaging Myself

This surgery really is not easy. There are so many people that say we have taken the "easy" way out of being fat. I'm learning, the hard way, that this really is a lot of work. Maybe for some people, they can sit back and let the weight drop off. I know a couple people that never went to the gym, drink alcohol (lots), eat whatever they want and still the pounds just drop off. I guess I was hoping I wouldn't have to work so hard anymore. I've recently gotten out of a 4 week stall. I lost 5 lbs, and now I'm not losing anymore. This time I know its my fault because I am definitely grazing. I've actually gotten up to over 1000 calories a few times, which I don't think I should be at this point, and definitely not with carbs, which is what I've been grazing on. I'm going to the gym 5 days a week now, and burning 600+ calories according to MFP, but I'm going between 228-229. I start out really well, having cheese and wheat crackers for breakfast, and lean protein for lunch. Sometimes I make it to after dinner before I start grazing. Sometimes I start after lunch. I know it sounds like a cop out, but I've been thinking of asking my surgeon if they have a recommendation for someone for me to see about the mental part of this. Since having a smaller stomach inst really working for me at the moment, I guess I need to deal with issues as to why I eat. I never really figured it out on my own. Most of my family is heavy so I always figured it was genetics, since I've never been abused or abandoned or anything like that. I don't really have an excuse to have a "food addiction" unlike other people that actually have had traumatic events that they need a coping mechanism. I was 220 when I got married, but quickly ballooned up to 250+ in the 1st couple yrs after I got married, and at one point was at 287. That was scary. So I know I should be happy with almost getting down to where I was before I got married, but I KNOW I'm sabotaging myself

Drinking

I train with two ladies that had the surgery & both of them became alcoholics. They liked the immediate buzz & then the quick sober. Both of them gained a lot of weight back...liquid calories! Both are doing great now!

Drinking

I waited til 6 months post op to try alcohol, and it hit me way faster. Now I drink socially but the sugar calories and hangovers aren't worth it to me anymore. And I definitely did see a transference in shopping as well, all Of a sudden I went from one or two stores I could shop at to basically all of them. It was a good feelin though.

For The Post-Op Veterans!

Breads will be a big problem most likely for now on. I'm four months out and can only eat a half a slice of toast. I did try a piece of bread at dinner one night and I felt like I was going to throw up for about two hours afterwards. Anyways, you really want to stay away from the high carb foods like breads and potatoes and even alcohol. I knew this was a sacrifice I had to make when I went with this surgery.

What About Wine???

My doc said alcohol is basically just empty calories, try the skinny girl line, it's good and reasonable priced, I am currently enjoying their cucumber vodka, with just water it's delicious!!! And still gives the same "relaxation" that you are looking for, the vodkas are new but they have margaritas, wines, piña colodas as well as other drinks, I swear I don't sell this stuff haha! Maybe I should though!!!!

Drinking

I was told that having alcohol will get you more buzzed faster that non RYN surgery people. I am 10 wks post op. I had a glass of wine a couple of weeks ago and nothing... My dr. says that you could/will get drunk faster after RNY surgery and to be very careful etc. etc. I have only had wine so far and have not had anything else but in my case and opinion a glass of wine pre op and/or post op is the same so far.........

Drinking

They say after RNY people can become alcoholics because of displacement. Meaning...now that a person can't eat anything they want or doesn't have food to sooth oneself they choose alcohol because they can drink liquids. Then of course because of the re-arranged anatomy RNY folks get drunk on very little and also sober up rather quickly. So they drink more. Pretty scary stuff. All the more to get our heads right before having the surgery so we know what to do with ourselves once we can't eat our way through emotions or boredom etc. Seems to be the big thing going around tv and the internet at the moment.
24. Ok guys just got surgery on june 25th. Still on fluids and am having trouble getting them down but thats not my biggest problem right now. I am FREAKEN OUT!!!! Will i be able to eat a slice of bread again?? Will I be able to eat a baked potatoe again?? Will I be able to drink alcohol again?? Will I be able to ever eat a sub or a sandwich again?? I know this seems stupid but I have all of these fears right now. I'm not looking to eat any of the above anytime soon but I fear I wont be able to have some guilty pleasures ever again. And what about diet cola on ocassion?? I just want to be normal again......

What About Wine???

My surgeon advised that all alcoholic beverages, including wine are a huge NO for the entire first year post op.
