It could be a combination of both. My stomach is crazy with this liquid diet. And every time I get nervous, it's even worse. You will do great! <3

    Weight Loss

I agree with Kimberb, my highest weight was 209 prior to pre op liquid diet and before surgery I was 199 and after my bypass which I did it 18 months ago I became 159 but totally stopped losing more! Last week I started another liquid diet and boom, I lost 4 pounds, presently at 155 and Still have to lose another 20 pounds in order to lose all my excess weight! Presently lost 75% of my excess weight! When I read other people's success story see that I lost what they've lost in just 2 months and get discouraged! I guess they had better results than me! But I read a lot of feedbacks and I realized I never took enough liquid on daily basis and now I Increased it to 48-64 oz, I start to lose little bit and that's good news for me! Thank you everyone for your efforts and input! It really helps and appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    post op scars

flower, I just put anti-biotic ointment on them, still do at 8 weeks. They are starting to raise up, so I'm thinking it's time for some Mederma to help them flatten out. Next time I'm at Wal-Mart, I plan to look for the Mederma bandaids. I can feel my port if I press on it. It doesn't poke out visibly. Some poeple do have pokey ports when they lose weight, but I don't think it's abnormal looking, really. Maybe those folks will post. Here are a few threads that might interest you... http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=6117 Scar Stages http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=6938&highlight=poke who can feel their port? http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=4268&highlight=poking wierd looking port Just a little research for ya, hope it helps.

    Bread substitute

I found this recipe on facebook. I tried it today and even though I messed it up, I think it's a good one. I didn't whip my egg whites long enough so the batter flowed into one big shape. But I was still able to cut it into bread size, they were just very thin. I am not a good cook, so this is a normal experience from me! I'm sure the better cooks will have better luck with the recipe. Here it is: Will you have a hard time living without bread? Ooopsies are a good option. It’s a “bread” without carbs and can be eaten in a variety of ways. Oopsies 6–8 depending on size. 3 eggs 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of cream cheese a pinch of salt ½ teaspoon baking powder (can be excluded) Separate the eggs, with the egg whites in one bowl and the egg yolks in another. Whip the egg whites together with the salt until very stiff. You should be able to turn the bowl over without the egg whites moving. Mix the egg yolks and the cream cheese well. If you choose, add the psyllium seed husk and baking powder (this makes the Oopsie more bread-like). Gently fold the egg whites into the egg yolk mix – try to keep the air in the egg whites. Put 6 large or 8 smaller oopsies on a baking tray. Bake in the middle of the oven at 150° C (300° F) for about 25 minutes – until they turn golden. You can eat Oopsies as bread or use them as a bun for a hotdog or hamburger. You can also put different kinds of seeds on them before baking them, for instance poppy, sesame or sunflower seeds.

    feeling yucky

Okay so I am usually very upbeat. But today I am feeling blue. It's pouring rain here, there hasn't been any sunshine for days, I haven't walked this whole week, outside of going to my classes. I want to be in a size 14 sooo bad!! I can get them on up over my butt and but there is like two inches between the button and the hole. I keep having to put it in perspective, it has only been 8 weeks. I mean really! My double chin won't go away, and it is all that I see when I look in the mirror. My stomach fat is starting to really hang now, and my inner thighs, and instead of feeling prettier, I am feeling uglier. Everything looks bad in the mirror right now. People have said that the double chin won't go away, that the skin will just hang there. I am 40 and realize that my skin has lost is elasticity but I was really, really hoping that the double chin would disappear. AND I HATE TO EXERCISE. I am walking, weather permitting, and doing crunches a couple times a week, but I know I need to be hard at it EVERY day. So the bad habits are still there, although I haven't blown it with food. That has been the one constant for me, thank god. I am losing, no stall, I have been down 1.5 - 2 lbs every week and that is all i ever wanted was to have consistent weight loss. Today I weighed in at 236, that is down from 272, that is 36 lbs in 8 weeks, I should be so amazed by that. But today, I am not. I am feeling like a big fat cow, still. The voice in my head that tells me I am fat and ugly and not worth a shit, it is back and I am sad. I have the tools, I know what to do. I just feel frozen in this muck right now. Anyhow, I am so glad I have a place to ramble. Maybe someone has made it all the way through my pity party here, or maybe not. Thank you who ever you are for taking the time to read my feelings. Somethings I can say here that I can't say out loud to anyone else. My husband get's so nervous if I even hint that I am not GREAT all the time, he remembers all the depression and how bad it had a hold of me. So I don't want to burden him with these feelings. It is the middle of the semester as well, and it is the end of my junior year in college, I am tired on so many levels. I quit smoking when I had the surgery and I have not started since and right now I would really like some chocolate and a cigarette. Haha, well enough for now. Bye.

BURP!! I just want to BURP!

I felt the same way just out and by the second week I was burping 'full' burps. I'm not sure but that stuck burp feeling might also have something to do with tummy swelling from the surgery. Regardless, it is really annoying, I know. I went for my first fill Friday and now I have the opposite problem and I'm burping like crazy. I'm hoping this is not permanent.

    Fruit and veggies

I am 3 1/2 months out & still have a hard time with fruits & veggies. I have very minimal restrictions, but cant seem to eat much after I eat my protein! Now I take a supplement instead & know I am getting my servings in.
  13. I'm just about 3 days post-op and home for the first night from the hospital. I'm on full liquids and was doing ok with warm liquids in the hospital and room temp now. I was given cream of wheat in hospital and after a couple bites stopped eating it because it wasn't appealing to me. Now that I'm home I don't understand what these pains in my stomach are. I had a protein shake over the course of about 6 hours (slept 3 of it) which was a total of 11oz. Other than that I've only had sips of water (about 6oz total) and a cup of broth. I have what feels sort of like heartburn or hunger or a pit in my stomach right in the top center. Am I full? Is this heartburn? Is this pain? I've had a Nissen about 10 years ago and the doc left it in place during my surgery so nothing really comes up but I vaguely remember this feeling as heartburn? Or is this the new feeling of fullness? It's uncomfortable and I don't how what to do. I feel so unprepared even though I've been reading and taking classes for this new journey for over a year!
  14. Personal conversations after jan 3, 2014 seem to not be recording in my list of conversations or conversations I start are not making it to recipient. Not sure if this is just my account or a general problem and thought it would be best just to post a thread about it here in assistance. Are others having this issue? I see the problem when using both IPad and android BP applications. It happened to me 2x so far.
  15. I went through the same thing. My family took the "I feel so bad that that's all you can eat" route. I told them I was not wanting for anything and that what I ate was very satisfying. I also joked that my "portion" would serve as at least 9 more meals for me so I would be able to enjoy it longer than them. That got mixed reviews as you can imagine but I don't really care. I was honestly happy to be able to drive home without feeling "food drunk" and to have thanksgiving dinner many more times over the next few days. Top it all off with losing 3 lbs! I wouldn't trade this for all the plates in the world! Just prior to surgery, during my pre-op diet, I would have gladly given up my first born to get a massive plate of food! It is amazing how much your perspective changes. Everyone says that our stomachs got sleeved, not our heads but sometimes I wonder... Shae

    Lap band to sleeve

I had my band removed in October of last year and was sleeved seven weeks later. My surgeon wouldn't do both at once but others will. I had my gallbladder removed 13 years earlier so that wasn't an issue. The band removal surgery was super easy. The sleeve surgery recovery was about the same as gallbladder recovery surgery, in my opinion. Both hurt but were manageable. I had 4 weeks off and feel like I needed every minute of that time. I think having all three done at once would be a lot at one time, but I am not qualified to say that it's a bad idea. What are your thoughts on it? Good luck!
  17. After a 3wk stall I woke up to a welcomed surprise!!! 5'4 Surgery 2/18/13 Staring weight 258.4 Day of surgery 250.6 Current weight 199.6
  18. I have been throwing up at least 2x/day for the last week. Today i threw up breakfast but i kept dinner down! ! It was so nice to nut throw up all evening. We went to taco bell and i got a chicken soft taco and only ate the inside of it.
  19. I'm still pre-op and have been on my pre-op diet a little over a month (doc is requiring I lose 38lbs before surgery). The first month, I wasn't super strict and only lost 9lbs. Since Tuesday, I've been in turbo mode and have lost almost 10lbs thanks to the plan my dietician put me on. It's super low calorie (1200 or less), high Protein (50%), low carb (20%), low fat (30%). The last two days, I have been extremely emotional/weepy! Yesterday, I broke down crying in the office at work with a coworker because my parents aren't coming over today for my birthday (it's Monday). It's not like that is a huge deal. My parents are super supportive and I see them fairly often. They just had something come up and can't make the 2 hour drive today. Today, I just sobbed uncontrollably over a video about a soldier and his therapy dog. It was a positive story but I couldn't stop crying. Lol! I'm not suffering from PMS (I'm fairly regular and still 2 weeks away from that) but this feels like the worst case of PMS ever. Had anyone else ever had this experience while losing weight?

    Reaction to incision glue?!

I had no idea I was allergic to the glue. Every incision was bright red. It took about two weeks of using hydrocortisone cream, before they got better.
  22. You shouldn't be letting other people decide what your tastes are - Protein shakes vary all over the map in taste and texture; what's yummy to you may be ghastly to someone else. The important thing is to get in the protein that you need. To me, variety is a key, and I was lucky to be able to tolerate a variety of protein rich foods early on so that I wasn't overly dependent upon any one tiring source. Greek yogurts are a good protein source at around 10g per 4oz serving while standard yogurts are about half that - I would get awful tired of yogurt if it were my primary protein source, not to mention that I don't get along well with plain yogurt. I have used protein shakes for years and have evolved blends that work for me in providing a good level of protein and a pleasing taste; likewise with yogurts I have evolved blends that work for me - I find that the commercially available no fat yogurts are also sugar free and have a lot of artificial sweetener taste to them, and I don't care for the level of sweetness added to most products. So, I have developed my own blend of plain and sweetened vanilla greek yogurts (about a 3 to 1 ratio now) that works for me, particularly with some added fruit and nuts. Likewise with the protein shakes, they can be blended with fruit or other flavors to enhance them - I often add a little unsweetened cocoa powder to enhance the chocolate flavor and cut the sweetness of the protein powders. I also blend the Protein Powder and greek yogurt into sugar free pudding mix to make a protein rich snack. I haven't needed protein shakes to meet my protein goals since fairly early on but still use them at times for specific uses (usually strength training recovery, as they are a good source of rapidly absorbed protein) and because I like them (or at least my blends) and are part of the variety that I maintain. Do some experimenting and see what works for you!
  23. I knew nobody in real life who had WLS. I knew our insurance would cover it. I googled and started looking at surgeon websites. One of the first I found was a center of excellence. I checked and he was covered in my insurance plan. I went to an orientation seminar and the team impressed me a lot, although the surgeon wasn't there that night. I booked an appointment for a few days later, met him, asked a ton of questions, and decided it felt right. Six months later I was banded. I'm happy with my experience and haven't had any complications. I will say that I haven't seen my surgeon since my six week post op. My NP does all my fills under fluoroscopy. She's wonderful and actually sent me away without a ninth fill two weeks ago with gentle advice to change up my diet and exercise instead. I think I've been fortunate, but I'd probably do it the same way if I had it to do over again. Matter of fact, I had a minor unrelated (not bariatric) surgery last January, and chose that doctor in a similar fashion.

    Salad question

i have been trying to add in green veggies and have been less than successful. I am 5 weeks out. I tried zucchini about 2 weeks ago..not good and tried Brussels sprouts yesterday - I had some leaves and 1/2 a brussels sprout with/after my turkey and it was too much I got the back up full feeling and couldn't finish my last ounce of Protein.. it tasted good though!
