    This is why....

When I was diagnosed with PCOS, unable to get pregnant for the last 10 years...I was told losing the weight would increase my fertility and some of the PCOS side effects. Also, around the same time II'd had a bad bout of pneumonia and was put on steroids for a good few months and packed on weight. After I recivered from the Pneumonia and was released from the hospital, last April I started the process. A few months into my waiting period, still pushing 300lbs , I broke a chair on the 4th of July. I was so embarrassed. Enough was enough. I want my baby more than anything and I'm tired of worrying about the weight capacity of a lawn chair. All of this was humiliating and discouraging. I also work from home and aside from walking up and down the stairs during work hours, I'm usually sedentary for 10 hours.. My hubs is 6'6" and weighs 178, I FINALLY weigh less than him. HA!!! What procedure are you looking to do?
  3. Tell me your This is why story! Here is one of mine from this past weekend ( I am in the beginning stages of this journey) My husbands birthday is coming up and so I got us tickets to go see Jim Gaffigan as a surprise. We went to dinner before and were cutting it pretty close, the event was at the event center at a local college and by the time we were trying to park they were full. So we ended up parking about a mile away 10 mins before the show was starting. A little background on my husband, he weights 160 soaking wet and walks an average of 10 miles a day at work. I on the other hand am seeing 282 on the scales these days and sit at a desk working from home all day. So we are trying to hurry, and EVERYTHING is uphill, then once we finally made it into the event center we had to climb to the balcony. By the time we found our seats I was covered in sweat ( which totally ruled out taking any cute selfies before the show) I could barely breathe,my throat was on fire and my feet and legs were yelling at me... it sucked! I couldn’t even laugh at first because I was still hurting from breathing so hard. (Although once my body calmed down I had a great night) The whole walk there and the whole walk back I just kept telling myself THIS is why! I can’t wait to free my body of all the pounds that keep me from really enjoying life. Next time it will just be a nice walk we share together on the way to a great evening. Have you you had any This why moments? I would love to hear them
  4. Good question. I'd like to know what others are doing. I haven't been using my food tracking app in a couple weeks, just because I was out of town for awhile plus extra busy at work so I was thrown off of that routine. I have been eating pretty much the same though so I don't feel like I strayed much from reaching protein goal. I'll continue to watch the scale and see if I feel I need to get back to tracking. My weight loss is certainly slowing down. I've lost 80 since 8-15-18 and wear a size 14 now. I still would like to lose at least another 15-25 lbs to get to a healthy BMI and into a size 10 or 12.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

So I didnt see a June thread and wanted to make one so we could all stay accountable and have a lot of good and bad experiences together!!! Introducing myself: My name is Kassandra, I am 27 years young, I have 3 great kids, a wonderful hubby, and 3 great cats. I'm a type 2 diabetic & have sleep apnea. I decided to do this to take my life back. I'm 5 ft 2 and 258 lbs. I had planned for the sleeve but my insurance won't cover it right now so RNY it is! *also posted on bypass board*

    June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!

So I didnt see a June thread and wanted to make one so we could all stay accountable and have a lot of good and bad experiences together!!! Introducing myself: My name is Kassandra, I am 27 years young, I have 3 great kids (9 yr old & 5yr old little boys & a 2 year old little girl), a wonderful hubby, and 3 great cats. I'm a type 2 diabetic & have sleep apnea. I decided to do this to take my life back because I do NOT want my kids to lose me so young. I'm 5 ft 2 and 258 lbs. I was 293 last summer then I started to make small changes to get ready for surgery. I had planned for the sleeve but my insurance won't cover it right now so RNY it is!!!

Anyone else playing the waiting game?!?

I’m self pay and am going on a short Mexican vacay. My ins sucks as far as Bariatric coverage. Contrary to popular belief, I had to jump through hoops as well, to get approved. Who knew, right? I just got approved after submitting my EKG. I am scheduled for 10/1/19 (my choice). I’m so excited! And I am excited for you. I can’t wait to hear about your experience and new life adventures!
  8. I have scheduled my surgery to be done in Mexico on 10/1/19. I have no reservations what so ever. However, this is just me. I saw the CDC warning and NY Times followed up with an article as well and it was regarding just 1 hospital in Tijuana. Only the 1 hospital. Weigh your options and if you need to make a list. Pros and cons. No matter what you decide, you will always find proponents and opponents. It is ultimately your decision, re your health. Good luck.
  9. The count down is on! 10/1/19 here I come.....

I had originally wanted VSG but my endoscopy revealed a hiatal hernia which disqualified me. SO I switched to RNY. 🙂

    Pounds lost

I am 3 ½ months out and have lost 60 pounds. I arrived at Onederland this past Friday at 198. I have not seen the 100's in over 20 years! My next milestone is to achieve another loss of 68 pounds to settle around 130ish. I'm only a petite 5'0" frame, and prefer not to look "just chubby". Very thankful I'm no longer morbidly obese, and continue to strive toward normalcy to the fit and trim range. Looking forward to a much different and better end of 2019 holiday season. I love my new sleeve and the endless possibilities... Any other height challenged individuals out there? What is your ideal weight goal? Congratulations to all for your weigh downs and continued best wishes. Happy spring!

    New here

My PCP recommended this because she helped me try everything else and watched me fail. This was kind of a "last resort" for me. That was last July of 2018. The surgery was in late March of this year, but I have to tell you, if I didn't have that long process in between, I probably wouldn't have done it. I had to get mentally ready and I needed all 8 months to get there. So, flash forward to earlier this month, I lost 40 lbs during the 6 months of nutrition classes and preop diet, then another 10 a week after surgery. I went to a follow up with my PCP and I cannot tell you how happy she was for me. I've been going to the same Dr for 20 years now and I've never spent as much time with her as I did this last visit and the whole time she spent praising me on my hard work and success so far. That gave me some real motivation to keep this going and to put in the work needed to maintain the loss progression. Good luck to you on whatever you decide.
  12. I cut mine in half. That seems to work but I wait 10 minutes between pills.

    April surgeries?

Hmmm. Let's see. I am still sore. I have timers on my phone set to keep me on target liquids wise. I am trying to get in 5k steps a day but always find that I am fatigued after being active sometimes. To be honest, I didn't have any expectations pre-surgery- I do think things will be more clear about my new reality once I am no longer in pain. So, I think things are going okay. I did put on about 10 pounds worth of fluids due to iv while in the hospital, but I am happy to say I reached my pre-surgery weight yesterday. How are you doing?
  14. I take two psych meds, and was told that as long as they were not extended release I could take them right away. I've had no problems taking them, and they seem just as effective as begire surgery. Im 19 days post surgery. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. I didn't have a bp issue - glad it resolved itself...but I did lose 10 lbs on pre-op diet then gained 10 lbs due to iv fluids. I had surgery last Monday and it took me all this time to drop the fluids. Here is hoping that this upcoming week goes better and all us iv bloated kids can see what our weight loss is actually going to look like.
  16. Thank you thank you for started this post! Or restarting it! I can honestly tell you even before surgery 3/25/19 I wondered about this and my weight lost journey especially since I carry my weight in my thighs and butt! I started my journey at 402 and although I'm losing I can't see it so I can relate to those who deal with that. When you hear all the stories of the dramatic drop in weight and I'm thinking when is it my turn.. but then I remember it's my journey and I'm writing my own story for the new me! Thanks for all the encouraging post and comments! We can do it ladies and we are doing it! #anewus! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Revision in Mexico

I am in a similar situation. I had VSG done in May 2017. Lost 40 lbs, but have gained 10 back- I’m 208 & 5’4” before surgery I was 240. I would love to be under 150. Looking into mini bypass.
  18. Yes, it's a long pre-OP diet. Because of a side effect of one of my diabetes meds I have struggled to lose the 10% my surgeon requested before surgery. My RD and doc agreed that a longer focus on liquids (3 Glucerna, 300 cal fruit and veg snacks, 1 500 cal meal/day) will do more work to shrink my liver. Originally it was going to be 4 weeks of optifast with no solids. When I was able to lose a little after they changed my gliclizide dosage, the diet became 4 weeks with the Glucerna and 2 weeks of optifast. Given how successful the first week went they changed it again to 6 weeks of Glucerna. I've actually been able to cut my hbp meds in half, and I'm completely off the gliclizide already (still on metformin and jardiance). The results are keeping me motivated, even though the scale hasn't moved in a few days. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    SUPPORT? or ENABLING?

Interesting question! I decided that the way I could know if I felt I was enabling or supporting was by looking at my own motivation. For me, true support is ALWAYS a totally selfless act. Zero ego involved. No "well this is good for me" , "this shows that I am an expert" or I am getting some other charge out of this. It doesn't write someone off as hopeless, but it isn't always warm and fuzzy either. True support sees the needs of others and is willing to meet that need with compassion and, if need be, couch that compassion in "Hey! Your ass is hanging in the wind, cover that up!" Enabling, on the other hand, seems to me to come from a point of helping one's self out in some way. Such as the person bringing pizza to someone they KNOW shouldn't eat it to avoid conflict with them. Or Saying on this forum "Sure! Eat fried chicken 10 min after surgery" because you don't want to be the "bad guy". Abuse always is motivated by frustration/anger and (quite often on here anyway) ego too. That said, one man's "abuse" might be another person's "straight shooting". I have seen people use "straight shooting" as an excuse to verbally mow people over when the same message could have been said with a lot less carnage. I have also seen people feel abused by what I thought was pretty gentle truth sent their way Perception is everything and, since I can't control that in others, I will try to run what I say through my own filter, do my own "straight shooting" through that, and hope for the best.
  20. I was sleeved on 3/18/19 . Pre op 263 and now 233 or 234 or 235 or 236 every morning it’s in between . I’m following my diet plan as suggested by my nutritionist and surgeon but it’s getting annoying . I wake up one weight go to sleep higher . I’ve been trying to walk as much as possible . Am I doing something wrong ?

    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

Hello everyone, I had my RNY on 1/23/2019 and am down about 48 lbs. Most days I'm doing pretty well, but then I'll have days where I just want a real taco or a glass of wine and I'll start feeling down. Luckily, those days are few. Except wanting a taco. I want a taco daily lol. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Anyone get a March date yet?

I lost surgery weight in about 10-12 days. Then I only lost about 3 lbs the next 2 weeks. Then things kicked in and I'm going down every day! I was getting so worried that I had done this surgery for nothing, but I just needed to be patient. Now I'm on a roll, and I'm sure you will be soon too!
  23. Might be a blow to your ego to resort to insulin, but don't you really want what is best for Junior or Little Princess that you are carrying, read somewhere that post-Bariatric babies are usually 6.5 to 7.5 pounds instead of 9 or 10 pounds, Don't know know what magazine or website I saw it on!
  24. And you don't feel badly afterwards, 10 times easier than a root canal, and you don't leave afterwards with swollen Beaver Cheeks. Thinking back, I really am glad I no longer have real teeth, dentists kept doing them on me, maybe because my parents and later hubby had good dental insurance, but they did not benefit me the rest of my life. Curious, my cousin Rodger and I , 3 days apart in age, born at the end of WW II , our mama's had good healthy farm food, with rationing they could not get sugars and other bad - for- you stuff. We should have had wonderful strong teeth, neither of us did! Even the locale where we were incubated had natural flouridation, teeth were a little mottled but not all that strong. Probably had first filling at 3 years, and neither of us ever drank formula bottles, well I did a little because Mama's doctor didn't believe in thin babies, but she brushed my teeth as soon as I got them at 5 months. Doesn't make sense, does it?
  25. Hi all I haven’t been on this page in a long time but I need some help. I had my sleeve surgery back in 2015 and accomplished every goal I wanted. Great weight loss, improved health, improved vitality, and best of all, I felt great about myself for the first time in years. Here I am in 2019, not far from my annual follow up, and I feel HORRIBLE about myself. I have gained some weight back (not all, but enough to bother me). I feel extremely embarrassed about it and I feel like I have failed myself. I thought I had been feeling tired & down lately because of stress, but I am almost positive I figured it out this weekend. It is my self esteem. Anyone else been at this point and any advice on how to recover?
