Nectar vs Isopure unflavored
ShelterDog64 replied to sey1008's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
For what it's worth...I was a HUGE Isopure fan pre-op. Post-op, I literally could not get it past my lips. I liked Syntrax for a very brief couple of weeks post-op, and I can't stand it now. I'm a GENEPRO fan now, no smell, no taste, doesn't change the consistency of food. Whatever you do, don't over-invest in anything pre-op, because almost everyone's taste changes after surgery. You can get samples of lots of different Protein powders on several websites, and that's a good way to go. -

Need practical advice (long)
LaLoLaughs replied to amyecpa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4.5 months out and I have to tell you, everything was harder at the beginning. I found it nearly impossible to get in all my Protein in in the first 2 weeks. I talked to my doctor at that time and he told me to concentrate on staying hydrated more than getting the protein in. Yes, I hit a wall on the third week, with a lack of energy, but it was too difficult to get the required amount of protein when you can eat so little at the beginning. It will get easier soon, so concentrate on getting enough Water for now. Also, I had the best luck with GENEPRO. It is as tasteless as I have found. It doesn't mix well in water, but blends in nearly undetectable in most other products. Finally, while i was still in the hospital, I was given liquid Prosource. I bought that on amazon when I got home bc that was the easiest way for me to get protein. I just added it to my water with a crystal light mix and it wasn't too bad. I think it was 15g of protein per 1 tbsp. Hope that helps. Lots of luck!! -
Any Oregon Sleevers here?
LessOfMo replied to apositivelife4me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my VSG done on April 2nd at Legacy Good Samaritan in Portland. Dr. Emma Patterson from Oregon Weight Loss Surgery (OWLS) was my surgeon, with her partner Dr. Avishai Meyer assisting. Surgery was a breeze, taking about 2hrs, and then I stayed one night. I've been doing great so far post-op, and was able to manage any pain with liquid Tylenol and ibuprofen, which you can get at Target or Walmart. Thankfully I haven't really had any trouble with nausea, and am currently 13lbs down from surgery day weight. Getting enough protein in is the hardest part, but GenePro unflavored protein powder has been my lifesaver on that one. There's 30g of protein per scoop, and 2 scoops easily mix into a 32oz Gatorade (I always get the lowest sugar option available), and adding a scoop to low-fat Greek yogurt is a great, protein filled way to start one's day. -
I use genepro in sugar free pudding for a high protein treat. I love it. I haven't found many other uses for it though.

Hey Everyone, My surgery is next week and I want to make sure I have everything together. Has anyone tried Genepro? Can I start Genepro week 1 after surgery in my clear liquids? Has anyone tried Genepro in just plain water? What are some clear & regular liquids that have been your favorite? I'm not crazy about Powerade Zero but I guess I can try it again. If I cant stomach it before surgery I cant imagine I will be able to after. I need some of your favorite clear liquids such as powered zero, crystal light, Mio, Etc. I also could use some ideas for the full liquids. I know which protein drinks I like but I'm lost when it comes to the best soups, fruit juices, and veg juices. Thanks for your help! PS I don't cook much so grab and go is best but will make from scratch if I need.

I also really like genepro. I tried Gatorade’s new protein water as well (it’s Gatorade zero with protein) and I really like it.

@@Bandista the Genepro works great! Pre surgery I would mix one scoop into my morning coffee, sprinkle in while stirring, and it dissolves right in! 30 Gm protein with morning coffee is awesome! It would hold me for hours. Now I'm mixing half a scoop with my cream of wheats and yogurt. Eventually when I have my coffee again I will go back to my morning mix

Yay! It is early in the morning here, right now, and already 2 fans are blowing. Next step, turn the air-con on .... Yes, cheese-bread with rum flavoured GENEPRO with awesome company sounds wonderful!

@@mrsNilla Yes, I remember the slipping and sliding on icy streets in Norway ... especially bad in steep roads/streets going down. Had to move like a crab, sideways. Wow, GENEPRO with rum flavour .... this could be interesting @@LittleBill Hope you are wearing your thermal under-ware ..... keep warm! If I could, I would gladly send the heat to both yourself and Nilla. I am yet to install a second air-con in my West bedroom. Even with 2 fans going full blast, it is still too hot. We are having our hottest summer, and other countries are having coldest winters. Anyway, it is only a very long flight to my place, but bring the cheese-bread, and the party is on!

Can I proactively prevent hair loss PRIOR to surgery?
Clementine Sky replied to duckydoom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only experienced minimal hair loss, but I've lost weight at the rate of an injured turtle. I think those who lose a more substantial amount of weight at a faster rate tend have more hair loss. I've been using SLS products for years because my dermatologist recommended them back in college to help reduce the risk of acne breakouts, and they also are less damaging to your hair. Loreal has a line that is readily available at most stores, and very reasonably priced. I also really recommend Nioxin's shampoo. I haven't cared as much for their conditioners, so I mainly use the shampoo and then a Loreal SLS free conditioner. I use a hair mask, or if I'm out of one coconut oil, once a week for deeper nourishment. I did take collagen for a couple of months based on a post I read on here recommending it, and saw an improvement in my skin but not a perceptible difference in my hair. I bought it on Amazon. I never took Biotin or any other Vitamins that claim to benefit your hair because many can cause acne. I have PCOS and have be really careful. I do take Vitamin D, which definitely helps with hair growth, and a multivitamin. I also try to get enough Protein in, and drink plenty of Water. I was struggling for a while to meet my protein goals, and adding in GENEPRO as a supplement (I'd never recommend it as a standalone source of sustenance or protein) helped me out. -
Can't handle protein shakes
al0vely replied to bigdaddyff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought the genepro at the suggestion of my daughter but have not used it yet. So far I am able to get the premier shakes down but think I will need something when I go to 1 shake a day in a few weeks. -

Motivation to eat
crazyplantlady replied to Tssiemer1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a lot of motivation at that time too. I tried to find things I enjoyed eating and reminded myself that Protein would help me lose faster and healthier. one of my favorite things at that stage (and today) was refried black Beans, salsa, and cheese Heated up in the microwave so the cheese gets melty I can even add GENEPRO Protein powder to it in, and it tastes so good! A good source of Fiber, protein, and healthy carbs. Just try to find things that you enjoy! try to have fun with it. We're all here because we enjoy food, and there's no reason you can't do so still! Just in a healthier way, and in moderation. -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Jai D replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found that pudding went down the easiest and was the most filling post op. Pudding also counts toward your fluid intake as it’s a full liquid. Not sure if you are past the clear phase but I would suggest you try sugar free pudding and maybe some Genepro to add to your liquids. Soup also helped me get my fluids in. Drink a little .. take a break.. drink more.. repeat.. best of luck! -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Jai D replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The biggest misunderstanding is you don’t need 64oz of “water”, you need 64oz of fluid. Fluid includes full liquids too like jello, broth, sugar free pudding, water, protein shakes, drinkable yogurt (yogurt with milk added), etc. As for the protein if you add two scoops of Genepro to a 16.9 oz water bottle that’s 60 grams in itself. Sip that bottle throughout the day and you’ll get 60 grams from that & then get your extra 20+ protein from foods like eggs, beans, ricotta, yogurt, meats, etc. Hope this helps! -

help i think im overeating
kellym1220 replied to jackins12's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
I am no expert but I would advise that you blend your mango with a protein shake or add protein powder like Genepro or Isopure flavorless or vanilla. I would sub a shake for the apple juice. That will add more protein to your morning, which should help keep you feeling fuller. Good luck!! -
Yes! You are not alone! I had a swallow study done to make sure it was not a stricture. It turns out that my pouch was just overly sensitive. The surgeon said this happens sometimes, and can take two months for some people to get over the hump. I was throwing up eight times a day at one point, while on anti-nausea meds 24/7, then it nearly stopped around week seven. I did not get my fluids, protein, or all of the supplements in until two months out. Everything turned out OK, though. I did not have to be readmitted. The first thing that felt good to me was chicken broth from Chick-fil-A. Then, chicken or tilapia. Eventually, I was able to tolerate water and Crystal light again. I found Genepro protein powder which is the only protein supplement that I can tolerate. When I use it in certain proportions, I cannot taste or smell it. Pills were also a trigger for me, so I tried liquid or chewable supplements as much as possible. I also drank apple juice or cranberry juice in the first few weeks since it did not make me sick. I am sure you are already sipping slowly. Talk with your surgeons office to make sure there is nothing wrong, but hopefully you will get past this soon. It is so difficult, good luck. 😀

Pre op Protein Shakes.

I am on day 6 of my pre-op diet, and have been using Premier shakes and GENEPRO powder. I mix the Genepro in room temp Water and add to my brother. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App -
I was. Wondering if any of those of you who have used genepro are you still using it and do you like it? I was concerned after reading that it is not possible to get in that much protein in such a small quantity.

Genepro- 30 grams of protein/serving untrue?
SeahawksFan replied to Bluesea71's topic in Food and Nutrition
I buy it from Amazon. I am a Prime member and the shipping is free and comes in 2 days. Plus it's only $38 and is flavorless. I bought unjury and half of the container is still sitting in my cupboard. I should just throw it out as it is awful. I put one scoop of GENEPRO in my coffee every morning religiously. If I have oatmeal I add it in before I heat it up. It mixes better. I don't count my grams, calories, carbs, Water etc. I just always have Protein first and water to drink as often as I can. Good luck- LA -
What Is Your Beverage of Choice?
PorkChopExpress replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Crystal Light and water. I've been mixing the Genepro flavorless protein with the Crystal Light and that works well. Was sick to death of shakes. I'm still struggling to get 64oz after three weeks post-surgery, because the meals take away so much of my daily drinking time. It takes a long time to get a 16 oz cup down. So until the stomach increases in capacity a little bit more so I can take bigger drinks, I expect it'll be a challenge. -
@@Ldyvenus I'm glad you mentioned the Syntrax...I ordered the variety pack and I think the cappuccino flavor is still in the pantry! I'll try that one tomorrow. I've used almond milk in my coffee, but it's still not quite what I'm looking for. Right now, I'm making an espresso, steaming a cup of Fairlife milk and adding a scoop of GENEPRO to it, but I'd love to find something with fewer steps for first thing in the morning. One day I'm going to burn the heck out of myself steaming the milk
