Sick of clear liquid diet, rather eat nothing.
Tami_Lynn replied to LxA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm stumped by that! I don't understand why you cant have Protein drinks! They are what was pushed the MOST for me and everyone I know who has had this surgery. I hope you get it soon. I ordered "Genepro" from amazon. It is medical grade protein and has 30 grams per small scoop, not sure if you actually absorb the entire 30 but as with any supplement, you don't absorb all of it. I put it in my Water as its flavorless. It does thicken the water slightly but I don't mind it. -
Man thank you so much. I have been doing 2 premiere Proteins a day, but they're wayyyyy to sweet. Chicken broth is wayyyy to salty. Lol. I am making do with Water and Jello sugar free pudding. Went to Starbucks and got a peach green tea lemonade unsweetened. Best thing ever. I'm doing good with getting at least 64 ounces of Fluid, but the sweet protein - yuck. Have you tried unflavored protein? I use GENEPRO almost every day, it's 30 grams per tablespoon and has no flavor. I add a scoop in decaf coffee, I also use it in SF pudding..I purchase mine on Amazon. One way to cut the sweetness on the premiere is by adding it to cold decaf coffee, with a few pumps of SF torani syrup. With the chicken broth, are you getting low sodium? Our taste buds change so drastically after surgery but I promise it gets easier everyday I ordered and got the genpro. Tried it today - glad you suggested it. I put it in my Crystal lite raspberry lemonade. It's the best. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Trouble getting protein and liquid requirement
gina171 replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So...it kinda doesn't matter whether you "want" to drink Water or Protein. Its not about what you want to do at this point. It's your medicine, you have to do it. If you were taking care of a small child who didn't want to take their medicine for days, I am pretty sure you would find a way to make it happen. Sounds like you did not experiment with unflavored protein yet. Try GENEPRO, you can get it on Amazon. A very small scoop has 30g of protein, you can mix it right into that apple juice you're drinking, you won't even taste it. I have tried a lot of Proteins, and the Genepro amazes me on how easily it mixes into tea, cold drinks, pudding, anything at all. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Can't get the feel for my sleeve
ShelterDog64 replied to cline2400's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's funny that you snuck in a bit of scone...I've had little hunger and few cravings, except I think about blueberry scones almost daily. They weren't even a top 10 food for me pre-op, but I swear I dream about them. So bizarre! I definitely sympathize with the desire for fruits and vegetables, it's that time of year when our farmers market is loaded with the best of the entire season and I can only have tiny nibbles of it. I've been freezing blueberries and blackberries like crazy, hoping to save some of what I'm missing right now. The only thing I've seen you write that I'd question is that you're not allowed the muffin or bread until you're reached your Protein goal for the day. My plan wants me to eat my protein for the meal prior to any veg or starch, so I eat my meat/cheese/whatever, then some vegetable, then if there's room, I might have a touch of quinoa or brown rice or a small piece of grilled potato. I'm still using Protein powder to supplement so that I can have some fruits and vegetables during the day, I put a scoop of GENEPRO in my coffee every morning, then have some cottage cheese or yogurt with some berries after I'm done with my coffee. That way, I get a big protein hit early in the day, which helps me greatly. And one more thing (sorry, it's early and my brain isn't fully on yet!), I just spent 10 days traveling and eating in restaurants and it's SO much harder for me...lots of moments of nausea, my only episode of vomiting was in a restaurant bathroom, and in general, not the pleasant experience I used to have eating out. It's kind of an eye-opener, thinking about why restaurant foods are so much harder to eat...I think it's in the prep, lots of oil and butter, stuff I'm not cooking with at home now, at least not in large amounts. Also the size of the meals tempt me into eating more than I know I should, and I have a tendency to nibble and pick at my plate even after I'm full. I'm learning how to manage all of that, but it takes deliberate thought and doesn't allow me to just relax and eat and drink like I used to. This is such a HUGE change, in all aspects of our lives, isn't it? -

In the universe in which I reside, it is impossible to get 30 grams of protein out of 15 grams of protein powder. Genepro makes claims that, to put it mildly, I do not understand given the laws of physics. I personally would not touch the stuff. But I know others who swear by great results.

Protein powder taste?

I used Isopure for a very short time, then I just couldn't stand it in anything. I switched to GENEPRO and am very happy with it. I can't smell or taste it at all. -
I too am 4 months out and use Genepro daily. I make fruit smoothies every morning and add two scoops in them. I also add one scoop to my coffee and anything else is a bonus with my food intake! (which isn't much). You can order it on amazon or genepro.com

Other than drinks/soup, what do you mix your Genepro into?

We just started carrying GENEPRO in the BariatricPal Store. It's the 2nd generation version which is supposedly more efficient than the first. -

No energy, five days out
MissKay replied to skinnyjeansatlast's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My energy was very, very low for the first 2 weeks post-op. I didn't start drinking anything with Protein powder until after 2 weeks out. I couldn't stand any of the shakes anymore after the pre-op liquid diet, I burned myself out on them and nearly gagged every time so I just had to stay away. Now I take about 6oz of a juice (no HFCS juice) and mix a scoop of GENEPRO (30mg protein) and drink that on the days I get lower protein intake. I can definitely tell the difference on the days I get my protein levels up versus the ones that I get very little in. It's a balancing act and it takes time to master it. I wouldn't worry about exercise or walking ability right now. I don't think I gained the desire for any of that until I was on pureed foods because then I was getting actual sustenance to energize me. -
I had enough of the Protein Shakes too and so I started making my own smoothies. Greek yogurt, frozen fruit, little Water and ice and one scoop GENEPRO. 45 grams of protein and tastes pretty good. Best of luck to you! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I like that I can get the starter kit from unjury, it will give me a chance to try different flavors before spending more. Though from what I understand, my tastes are going to change after surgery so what I like now may not be what I will like then. I'm leery of GENEPRO every since I found out that their Protein powder doesn't actually have 30 grams of protein per scoop, but has what they say is the "equivalent" of 30 grams per scoop. Something about the fact that with their formula one scoop with 10 grams of protein all of the protein absorbs whereas other powders you only absorb 1/3 of the advertised amount.

Other than drinks/soup, what do you mix your Genepro into?
trekker954 posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I put GENEPRO into my decaf coffee. I know it mixes well in Soups. I have put Genepro in my hummus, yogurt. it mixes pretty well. I'm still in the soft stage food, but really need to keep my Protein in. Can you mix it into recipes that you cook? I know it says never to microwave. I had made these ricotta puffs in muffin tins and while I reheated one, After reheating i did mix maybe half a serving of genepro into the center. So far I'm not sure on the whole cooking with it. Would love to hear other ideas. -
Get some GENEPRO. You can mix it with anything. I mix it with my hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, I even mixed it into the infamous Ricotta Bake. We need to be creative in the begging soft food stage. It is very hard getting Protein in. Thankfully I have no issues with shakes. But I find the timeframe very difficult getting in protein and fluids in a 12 hour awake day.
-
so I would reccommend purchasing genepro! it IS a protein powder, but you can mix it in anything (it's flavorless). I try to stay away from shakes because I become so dependent on them/replace all of my meals with them. Instead, I eat "normal" now and since I drink a lot of coffee during the day, I just add genepro to my coffee and I can never tell its there! I had it during my pureed stage too and would put it into pudding and stuff. works wonders! it's a tablespoon sized scoop and is 30 grams of protein per scoop.
