Today was the first post op appointment since my surgery on 3/20 ...my last weigh-in was at the pre op appointment on 3/11... Since 3/11 I have lost 19lbs ...I have been strictly following my doctors post op diet ..haven't had any problems with reflux or any "stuck" episodes ???? I definitely feel when enough is enough .i'm currently on water/yogurt/pudding /popsicles/creamy Soups /premiere Protein shakes -aka-full liquids stage which hasn't been too bad ..I'm not hungry at all so I have to make myself eat . I'm still a little sore but only around the port site and since I'm not eating enough I don't have much energy but I still make it a point to go for a walk every day ???? Although I've lost 19lbs I'm sure most of it is from Water weight so once I start to actually eat again (Saturday) I will lose a lot slower which is a-okay with me ...my goal has never been to lose 100lbs in 6 months I just wanted to lose steadily and be healthy ???? Will update again in a week ❤️❤️feel free to ask me any questions ????

See I'm at a loss... This isn't my first winter, but truthfully last winter I was still healing. So much easier. I got really used to my routine over the summer and changes scare me (if its not broke don't fix it) Today is a fast day for me so I'll have to change up my extra cold yogurt for something that is warm and won't blow my calories for the day. It's more of the feeling of wanting to burrow and eat that I think I'm dealing with. Perhaps in the past I felt I could cover up and hide the extra food...

This will be my third winter post-op. Some of my warm favs: sugar free hot cider mix Soy Latte (mix Starbucks instant decaf with hot soy milk) I still eat yogurt, but in the winter, I mix in pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice Soups, chili, and Beans Apple slices cooked down with a little splenda and spices (I put them in a fry pan with a little water) costco Roast chicken Laura, if you also eat meat with Breakfast does the hot Cereal stay with you better? I have to have some Protein at breakfast.

Trying To Learn A New Way Of Eating Pre Op
bsmith replied to liz32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started putting salsa in my cottage cheese and I really like it. Also try ricotta with some maranara sauce. I eat a ton of shrimp and I make a greek yogurt wasabi sauce which I love on my salmon too. I tend to get most of my protein from fish and cheese since I dislike meat. Just watch the calories with the cheese. -
I have been starving lately!!!!!! I have been making a lot of smoothies with the Atkins shakes and putting yogurt in ( chobani) or Peanut Butter in the chocolate. I track everything in my fitness pal and just try to stay at 1000-1200 calories. And this weekend started to do Just Dance 4 as my exercise . I've been eating pretty mushy food but have also eaten a piece or two of pizza. I just track it. I definitely cannot eat as much as I once could and just try to take is slow and chew chew chew chew. I figure it will get better when I get my first fill which is next week. Until then I am not going to beat myself up (because I have done that enough in my life). This might be the wrong tactic and I know I need to get more Protein in but I am just going to keep working on it! I also and just cooking for my family and just eating smaller portions. Has lasagna "cupcakes" for dinner - emilybite.com and making chicken casserole tonight. These things last a whole lot longer now!!!!'

I also was banded on June 27, at first I was afraid to drink anything and now I'm to the point I'm never hungry. I can't believe you ate popcorn chicken!! Wasn't you worried it would effect the healing process of your band? All I have is bunches of protein water, yogurt, milk with unjury, and soup. The only things I have chewed is my multivitimans and calcium pills. I only have to be on liquids for 2 weeks after surgery, then mushy foods. Are you sure you have to be on liquids for 6 WEEKS...that IS bad!!

I've never worried about calcium. I get plenty of calcium through food (yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, etc)

Averaging 400 cals/day GAINING WEIGHT!
jandseakin replied to 2notbwinded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you using any protein powder? At 5 weeks I still have Unjury chocolate, warm, for one snack, and put Unjury unflavored in a glass of crystal lite. That alone givess me 42 gr of protein a day, the rest from food. You can add 1/2 scoop unflavored to greek yogurt too for another 20. -
Hi lellow, Yes you are on liquids after the op for the first two weeks. John ate soups such as; pea & ham (his favourite), tomato etc he did try scrambled eggs but that did not agree with him. The dietician told him to take sustegen hospital grade along with vitamins they recomended one but John took berroca as they were cheaper and had more vits in them. He also ate yogurt with tinned mandarins as he could not bring himself to liquidise certain foods. He now eats most of the things he did before except smaller quantities, he used to eat a whole pizza now he can only manage 3 slices at the most. He also does not eat white bread as that got stuck a couple of times, but as I said before everything else he has no problem with. After seeing how well he has done and that he did not have to give up what he liked before convinced me to go for the op my date for seeing the doc is the 23rd July then hopefully not long after that to get banded. The shakes will go right through you pretty fast. The denser Proteins will sit in your stomach much longer. My surgeon wants us off the shakes and getting protein from foods as soon as possible. When I mentioned that I occasionally still have a protein shake for Breakfast at almost six months, she was a little annoyed. I still do it anyway because I can make really tasty ones. I don't sip on them throughout the day because I like them fresh out of the blender and cold. The reason for getting on regular foods is that the protein shakes really do not give you everything you need nutritionally (certain amino acids, Vitamins, minerals and fiber) and for the fact that we basically should be not on a liquid diet for long. I eat tri tip, ribeye, sirloin, fillet mignon, turkey, chicken, ahi tuna, white fish, shellfish, pork, cheese, Greek yogurt, beans and nuts for protein. I don't like lamb or organ meats. Quinoa is a high protein grain I eat. Lots of calories and carbs, so a 1/4 cup serving usually does it. Treat it like couscous and add feta and cranberries or whatever.

It has been a while since I last posted. I tried to post on day 5 but the site was down and I couldn’t save anything on the computer that I was on. So now it is day 27. Tomorrow will be four weeks from my surgery date. That means that I can have mushies tomorrow. But before I get to that I want to recap a little. I was in pain for the first two weeks post op. It was mainly directly in the middle of my stomach and at my port site. I couldn’t understand how some people say that they don’t have any pain at all. My suggestion would be to take at least ten days straight to rest and get better. I only had five, which was okay but I definitely shouldn’t have gone to work day 6 and 7. I was so tired and just sitting at my desk was painful. At week 3, I was able to sleep normal in my bed except for on my stomach. I tried earlier but I was uncomfortable and chose to stay in the recliner longer. So that brings me back to now. I have been on clear liquids up to now and it has been okay. It definitely has helped with weight loss. I have lost 26 pounds post op so far. I have been surprisingly okay with the liquids keeping me full too. I am not struggling with insane hunger or cravings. There are times that I wish I could eat but I have been okay. I did slip up two days ago when I though “I am only four days from mushies, I should just start now”… Well I had clam chowder and the next day I had the worst migrane in a long time that I thought I was being punished. I threw up five times and my stomach was completely empty when I was better. So I guess I am back to the straight and narrow now. Tomorrow though I cannot wait to have beans and cheese or maybe some yogurt. I hope my stomach doesn’t retaliate. I also hope that I still lose weight steadily. It doesn’t have to be a pound a day but at least 1-2 a week. I am scheduled to have my first fill on November 14th. I wonder what it will be like. I cannot find my port so I hope they can find it well.

Protein powder. Costco has decent ones and reasonable prices. Sugar free popsicles. Yogurt, depending on your plan. Cream soup or something that can be blended.

Lactose can be your Enemy!
amboyle728 replied to amboyle728's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was in a stall for about 3 weeks, then gained about 2 lbs in a week and I called my bari team in near hysterics! Very discouraged. I was feeling awful, with stomach upset, gas, bloating, lethargy. All that has gone away since I cut out dairy--which admittedly has been hard, b/c cheese (esp. cottage cheese) and yogurt had been a big part of my eating plan. -
Lactose can be your Enemy!
amboyle728 replied to amboyle728's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh yes...lactose can certainly have that effect. Which makes it inconvenient as heck b/c most pre-made shakes are heavy in lactose. Generally now I use protein powder (I like IsoPure, BioTrust and Purely Protein), and make my own shakes with either lactose free milk, oat milk or almond milk. Eggs don't bother me, (but I do know they bother some who are lactose intolerant). so I eat them a lot (egg beaters, because of the calories). When I did puree's, I actually ran chicken through the food processor with a little broth and it made a thick, high protein soup. It sounds gross but with a few spices it wasn't that bad I also had to give up cottage cheese and yogurt, although I did try almond milk based yogurt, but didn't care for it. Some people do like it though, so maybe it's worth a try for you. Peanut butter and almond butter are also a nice treat but the calories/fat can be a problem if you have too much, of course. Hope that helps a little. It's a challenge, for sure, but you got this! I've found that this whole process is full of ups and downs (and not just the weight either) but when I focus on the big picture and remember why I did this, it makes it all worthwhile! -
Try adding more protein. I find that I lose better when I have 80-100g of protein a day. I have a 50g protein shake for breakfast (during a long drive to work), cottage cheese with bacon bits and sunflower seeds for lunch, Greek yogurt or a 28g protein shake in midafternoon, string cheese as I drive home and something light for dinner, like cheese or pistachio nuts. I have really good restriction, so that helps. Get lots of water in and don't drink anything for 30 minutes after eating. I got real serious a few weeks ago after foundering for months. It's paid off with a good loss.

Not losing a great deal of weight on the pre-op diet
Bufflehead replied to C2CFOREVER's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Why cheese? If you are going to eat dairy, IMO yogurt is a healthier choice. And why fruit instead of green veggies? Green veggies are much lower carb. All that said, losing 1 kg in a week is great IMO. Does your bariatric team have a specific goal that you must meet? It sounds like it, from your post, but personally I think expecting more than 1 kg/week is a high and kind of cruel standard. -
Lapband - Moving on to solids
DropWt4Life replied to jenhanna87's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You should be fine with that. I am not a lap-band patient, but us sleevers still deal with the slider issue. I have protein smoothies all the time, and it holds me over pretty well. I would choose the lowest sugar Greek yogurt you can find. As far as fruit, maybe some raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and/or strawberries. I add 1/2 banana to mine along with about a 1/2 cup of frozen spinach. If you add all of these in frozen, they make a great milkshake type protein shake. I have made 32 ounces at one time, and divided it into four 8 oz. servings. I then drank two each day. It really is more filling than regular protein shakes. If you have access to seeds in Scotland, those are great as well. Chia, Hemp and Flax seeds add good fats and protein to your shakes as well. Good luck! -
I attended my last pre-op MD visit and pre op visit today which included a class on the pre and post op diet. I was expecting something way tougher based on my reading here. What I received was: PreOp: Starting 2 weeks prior to surgery date, daily diet is: -3x Nectar or Unjury protein shake -1/2 cup oatmeal or cream of wheat -1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce -1 cup of vegetables -1/2 cup of light n fit or carb master yogurt -1 cup of low fat soup This is not an "or" list, but rather I'm supposed to eat everything on that list daily on the 2 week pre op diet. -1 day prior to surgery = clear liquids only. Curious as to why different surgeons have such drastically different requirements for the pre op diet? Also of note, for post op, they only have you on clear liquids for the first 2 days, then full liquids and purees from day 3-20, soft foods (meaning can be cut with a fork) from week 3-6, then all normal food after 6 weeks with the exception of bread/rice/pasta, which cannot have until 12 weeks.

I never ate baby food either. Lots of yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes. The only thing I puréed was canned peaches since I wasn’t allowed fresh fruit yet.

I'm happy to not eat - my body isn't liking it though
delove32 commented on raeych75's blog entry in raeych75's Blog
Congrats on your loss! I am still in the pre-op phase but I have heard many people say they liked refried beans and cheese, ground beef or turkey pureed with spaghetti sauce and cheese, protein shakes made with greek yogurt and 100% fruit juice. These are just a few things that I said I was gonna try once in that stage. I am loving the GNC banana cream ready to drink lean shake right now. To me it has a good flavor and not an overwhelming protein taste. Hope this helps! Can't wait to see you on the banded side! -

Any soft food ideas?
KristenLe replied to elaina831's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A few possibilities... Hummus, cottage cheese, eggs, soft cheese, tuna, salmon, Greek yogurt, beans, creamy soup... Did you have a Nutritionist with your program? They should be a good resource. Concentrate on protein, watch for sugar/added sugar, and low carbs. -
This is what I wish I had taken, extra PJs and extra underwear (I forgot my underwear) and footie socks/slippers and flip flops. You probably will go shopping, but at soon as you get back to your room, you will want to put on comfortable clothes ie PJs. I flew United also and they allow you to check one bag for free, I HIGHLY recommend doing that. When I flew home, I upgraded to 1st class at check-in. It was the best $75 I have ever spent. Also take broth packets with you, the food and drink taste different in Mexico, except the bottle Water. I bought juice and yogurt from Walmart and it was NASTY!!

6 weeks post op-What size meals are people eating?
Juba replied to onajournee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 weeks out today and my meal sizes are still pretty small. I have zero hunger, like I mean I am never hungry and pretty much force myself to eat. The only way I know my body is hungry is that I find myself yawning or I just start not feeling great. I have gotten really good at reading the signs my body is showing me, because I do not get any brain signal of hunger anymore. I would prefer to just have 3 meals per day but in order to get my Protein quantities in I have to eat more like 4-5 times/day. I drink a 1-1/2 scoop protein shake for Breakfast (with a bunch of things added i.e. green powder etc), mid morning I have a small snack (i.e. 1/2 cup of greek yogurt), lunch would be maybe 1/2 cup chili, dinner maybe 2-3oz of meat and maybe 1-2 pieces of veggie (i.e. steamed broccoli). If I can I will try and eat a small piece of turkey pepperoni or turkey Jerky in the afternoons. That's it, I'm lucky if I hit 800 calories in a day, it's typically more like 600-700. I rarely have room for veggies or fruit which I miss ALOT but protein is obviously the priority. I add an organic greens powder to my morning shake to try and compensate for the deficiency.
