June 2009 Surgery
KOLaficionado replied to traviesa97's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes congrats on the quitting smoking! I've been smoke free for three months now and I just now feel like I can breath so much easier. I also seem to sleep a lot better too. Finally stopped hacking crap up:ack2: (TMI I know..) For all of you looking for good Protein shakes, try Isopure. There's actually an add for it over on the right of the page a lot. It's the best quality protein and is very very low fat and carb. I think with a little added sweetener and even some various extracts, it tastes great. You don't even need to blend it, it mixes fine with a spoon. Just a thought. Good luck on the preop diets everyone I'm struggling, but getting it done without cheating, so far  -

Menstrual differences after being sleeved????
Amethyst Acinom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is TMI I've always been on the heavier side of my periods and they would last 7-10days I'm experiencing my first menstrual and it's totally different. I'm barely cramping and I'm very light. I'm on day 4 and it's super light still. What has been your experience? Does it change? Should I worry? Is this normal? -

Hey Gang Well I got my pantry all cleaned out and organized - went to Target & Marshalls and got baskets to put stuff in - looks really nice - had to throw out expired canned food that's been in there since surgery - have all but 1 cupboard straighten out - junk drawer cleaned.. That's my exciting day :0) P.S. Got that cupboard done :0) Now don't know what I am going to have for dinner - maybe take out - but that means getting dressed - I was cleaning in my bra & undies (tmi :0) the priviledge of living alone :0) But now have jammies on - -

Okay ladies, TMI yesterday, I guess I was having a bit of a pity party. I always seem to get that way when I think I should be doing better. That just means that I have hit the bottom and the only way to move is UP!! So new attitude today! -

Well, at least I got the grilled chicken! But I did eat all the skin, too! Oh, my it tasted good! Yeah, I'd probably be cruising the thrift shops for Andrew's apartment! Jacki taught me that! You wouldn't believe the treasures she finds! We have a slew of wine glasses that she got us a thrift stores! There are a couple... I think over on Country Club, that I spotted one day... one is Angel View... they are all over the valley, and there is another one right next door to it. I've been wanting to go look around. Every time we stay in Gilroy, Earl loses me for hours while I go to Salvation Army!!! LOL Now I remember.... COPD! I forgot.. but you did tell me that before. But I didn't realize she was that seriously ill! How old is she??? Yes, I am simply amazed at how ell Earl is doing! No pain pills today at all! So I let him have a glass of wine. He says he still feels a little groggy, but it takes a long time to get al that anesthesia out of your system. He says he has no pain. He hates doing the irrigations, but he is doing the faithfully. Then he complains because he has water running back out again for a while!! TMI!! My youngest sister just had her hair color changed from blond to red! You've been talking about doing that for a while, haven't you? And here's a picture of Mom & Uncle Ed just before they were called in to a conference room so Ed could be counseled about breaking the rules!!! -
Had my first post op visit today. Everything is going great! Everything seems to be healing well. They think my drains (some if not all) will get to come out on Tuesday. Today they just cleaned the sites and put new stickers down to help hold them in place. Next Friday I'll get the tape removed from my incisions and start the scar care routine. I'm starting to be able to walk upright just a bit more, but not totally straight yet. They told me to play it by ear, and listen to my body. If I'm not feeling pain, I can continue to straighten up more. TMI - but I finally had a BM today. I ended up needing an enema, which I did at home. Really haven't been taking much as far as narcotics, but despite colace twice daily, fiber, increased fluid, miralax, and two doses of milk of magnesia I still couldn't go. I was starting to get really uncomfortable to the point t it was causing some pain, so I decided to do the enema. It worked, and I felt to much better. I still tire out pretty quickly. I don't like being "lazy" but know I need to let my body heal so I rest frequently and take naps a lot. My husband has been so supportive and amazing helping with all the things I can't do. I'm really hoping by next week I'll have more stamina! After my visit I took my garments off to snap a quick update picture. Of course I'm still super swollen, but LOVING my results so far! This whole processing has been such a blessing, and can't wait to see continued changes as I heal more. [emoji173]️

Hi everyone, my date is 6/23. I’m day 4 of clear liquids. I’m surviving but definitely not thriving. I’m basically existing on broth, Gatorade 0, and strained canned soup because jello makes me gag. Also, (and I know it’s TMI but I want to share my real experience) this pre-op diet diarrhea is no joke! But, I’m optimistic better things are ahead!

Thanks guys.... Candice...they make 100 cal packs of kettle korn, that is my evening snack of choice. I have determined air is fattening. Been good, food wise, gotten back to exercising, had at least a 2 pound dump yesterday, I know TMI, and gained 3 pounds. The recipe for taco soup: 1 lb. ground turkey 1/2 to 1 onion, chopped, saute turkey and onions 2 cans stewed tomatoes - don't drain (I mash them up) 2 cans kidney beans - don't drain 1 can tomato sauce about 1 cup water 1 package taco seasoning. Combine and simmer for 15 or so minutes serve with fritos, grated cheese, sour cream. I only put about 5 fritos in my bowl, use regular cheddar/monteray jack cheese, about a tablespoon, and 2 tablespoons of light sour cream. You could add corn, and chilies if you wanted more spice, but I am a mexi spice whimp. I know the cals are higher with the real cheese, but I'm not fond of faky cheese. I haven't calculated cals., but since it is primarily tomato and beans, it isn't bad. You could skip the fritos, cheese, sour cream....but then what is the point. -

Karla - My meat is oscar meyer sandwich - brown sugar deli ham - not actual deli meat -but that would work too - 6 slices is like 50 cal - cheese 45 - so really you could have 2 servings - I'm good w/one most days. Can't say I stay full till lunch - I get hungry around 10:30 - 11 - and I try to drink then.. I do ok on workout days w/my water I take a 20 oz and I will have it gone by the end of the hour - but that's 1/3 of our water - but I do have at least 2 - 10 oz coffee and then 8-16 oz of juice at nite and 12 oz of ice tea in the afternoons (need the caffiene to keep going).. But some days (non exercise days) all I get is my coffee and a little juice- then I have 2 problems tight and tmi ;0) -
I know TMI. But for everyone with a yeast infection, try douching with live yogurt as well, seriously!

Any December '08 Bandsters?
BillOh replied to Florida Pete's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was asked about my pain in recovery and I said it was about a 5 on the 1-10 scale, so they gave me dillauded. 5 minutes later they asked how it was and I said 4, more dillauded. That helped until I got to my room. I'm not feeling too bad until tried to get up, which was often with all the fluids they were pumping in. I was given liquid percocet in my room and will probably stay on that today, and will see tomorrow. As many people said, I suspect it will get better each day. Oh, I just checked and I didn't gain any weight during surgery as some people do because of all the fluids. I was definitely peeing by the gallon. (sorry for the TMI) I think that is why I'm still sore, so many trips to get up and go. -

Hi all.... My surgery was Monday...I am on my 5th day out. Surgery went well. The first night was rough, I cried and had a moment of remorse. Everyday has gotten a little better than the day before. I CONSTANTLY am sipping something, Water, tea, broth, sf Powerade and am trying like hell to drink my Protein shakes. I was only able to get down 30 grams of protein yesterday. I ate 1/2 of a small Jello. I am taking my Vitamins and supplements. It is all very daunting but it is the only thing I am focused on. The last two days I have been running a LOW grade fever. 99.2 - 99.9, the doctor said if it gets to 101.3 then I have to be seen. Woke this morning to no fever ...YAY! The gas pain has been bearable. I have moments where it settles in the middle of my back and doesn't move - NOT a good feeling. I am burping (a good thing) and passing gas (another good thing). I had a partial BM (sorry if TMI -but it is par for the course), when having a BM you do not want to push. I am definitely going on a stool softener today. My incision sites are beginning to itch...good sign that they are healing. Second day home I showered.....oooh the best thing ever. My only gripe and something everyone must be made aware of...my doctor did not discharge me from the hospital until 7pm! I was then given my prescriptions. This was unacceptable! I live 45 minutes from the hospital my pharmacy would have been closed and I would have had to spend my first night home without pain meds. So my mother and I scrambled to find a pharmacy on my way home from the hospital. I wasn't happy. Please ask for your RX's prior to being released and have them home waiting for you. All in all so far it has been pretty good. A LOT of rest with intervals of walking. It is a slow process right now, but one I am NOT regretting. I am looking forward to my future and a lot less of me! Good luck to all ...and remember SIP, SIP, SIP your liquids!

A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Well, I don't know if I'd call that woman mean, just totally crazy. Where do these nut jobs come from anyway? I thought they were supposed to be locked up in a mental hospital. I am so glad your hubby was there to straighten her out, I wouldn't know what to say either. Except maybe if he was so unhappy why am I getting lucky every night? LOL, sorry tmi. -
I'm 3 days post-op and have a couple of questions. 1. What's with this frothy foamy stuff coming up from my stomach? Does it mean I'm drinking too much, not enough, or just something that happens? 2. How long did you guys wait before taking a laxative? I don't feel like I'm constipated and have been passing gas. (TMI, sorry) But I'm afraid to let it go too long and also afraid to put a laxative into my poor abused GI tract right now. And advice? Thanks!

Any October surgeries out there...
Chelle replied to debbiedenise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 10/21- Monday and wanted to give an update. So, I had the rny, and I also had my ovaries removed. I was in surgery a total of 4.5 hours. I guess they ran into a lot of scar tissue when working on my ovaries. I have 3 extra holes because of that. Day 2 was BY FAR the worst as far as pain. We were trying to remove the IV and keep my pain under control with oral meds. Bleck. I wanted to walk a bunch more than I did, but it was hard to keep getting someone in the room to unhook my leg massager things, and reattach my oxygen to the portable oxygen tank. For some reason my oxygen kept tanking. I finally started using the spirometer thing (spelling?) and was able to cough up a bunch of gunk.....that helped my sat's a ton. When I came home I still needed a lot of help transferring. Getting up, sitting or laying down etc. Today is the first day I am doing it on my own. I havent hit my Protein goal yet, but will try again today. I am getting good Water however- so yay! Ooooh in the hospital they gave me this NASTY stool softener- and sent a huge bottle home with me. Turns out, I don't need it at all. Seems the more liquids go in, the same amount come out. The hardest part is trying to twist and get wiped and cleaned up. Sorry....probably TMI....but I try to time my 'bathroom' events to be shortly after I have taken a pain med so its more tolerable. Hope this helps someone. I know I was sure craving these detailed stories before my surgery- so here is mine. Hugs and prayers to everyone!! -

September 2009 Band Date
AmandakRangel replied to ashleysara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OK so at my post-op appt the doctor said I could move on to regular foods and I have been doing good, until tonight. I was eating some chicken that I had boiled so it was nice and tender, I also had bell pepper and onions in it. Well i guess I was not eating slow enough but I had a pepper and it got stuck and let me tell you that is the worst feeling. TMI but they are not lying about the foam that comes back up. It was nasty so after about 5-10 minutes it finally passed and I was able to finish my meal. Let's just say I really focused on chewing and eating more slowly. Moral of the story, we may not have restriction but things will still get stuck, so chew, chew, chew and eat slowly. Take care guys and remember me at your next meal so you will head my warning. Bye guys. Til tomorrow. -
I am on a diet that consists of A Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch in 8oz milk 2 servings of fruit Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones for dinner Unlimited sugar/sodium free clears My question is, had anyone done a diet similar to this and if so, did the high protein cause you to be gassy or constipated. Big TMI... It's hard to tell if I am constipated because I had a bowel movement on Wednesday so I don't know. And my calorie consumption is only around 900 so I'm sure I don't have as much waste anyway. This is the first day I've had some discomfort. It's not terrible and I just took some Gas-Ex to see if it helps. Any input would be great...just curious to see what everyone else has experienced! Thanks!!!! Jordan

December Bandsters (Early Xmas present)
size10again replied to chocolatecity's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, Vicky~ Have you been drinking warm water as your first drink of the day? My instructions say to start each morning with warm water t reduce mucous and to do this forever more. My instructions also say to take pepto for diarrhea. Have you taken anything for the diarrhea? Now my turn to share TMI! I have been without a BM since surgery until this AM. I took milk of magnesia the last two nights. When do you return to work? Joan -
You havent had food so you shouldnt really expect to have much of a BM my surgery was on the 8th and it's very little and like water infact today was the first time that is had some consistancty (sorry for the TMI) but what you put in is what u get our but my surgeon said we could take milk of mag if needed
