  1. I have an aversion to them too! I tried them again ~1 month ago (I'm 10 weeks post RNY) and gagged and threw it out along with the shaker bottle! I've tried multiple kinds. I was able to make broths/soups work for awhile, but can't even stomach those now! Good luck to you!
  2. Hello all, I'm 10 weeks out from RNY and overall doing pretty good. My problem is I can't plan my food menu because one day I'll like a food, like eggs, and the next day it repulses me. Can't stand the smell of it. I'm like this with almost everything I'm eating. I can NOT do shakes ever again. I tried again about a month ago and gagged and threw it out along with the damn shaker bottle. Same with soups and broths. Can't even look at them. ONe day I'll do good with chicken and the next it sickens me. I'm often hungry, but eating makes me feel like crap. I enjoy nothing. I eat slow and don't eat until I am too full, so it's not like I'm overeating and getting sick from a food and then not wanting to eat it again. It makes me sad. Frustrating as hell. I'm hungry now, but nothing sounds good, looks good or tastes good. I often feel crappy after eating. Nauseated. Again, not eating until I'm too full, so it doesn't make sense to me. My dietician wants me to get in more protein but I can't figure out how. There is a part of me that wishes I never would've had the surgery because I'm so sick of feeling like crap. I have low/no energy. I'm taking all my vitamins and supplements. Anyone else have this problem? Will it get better over time? I have no idea what I'll take to work for lunch tomorrow. The chicken I made yesterday is grossing me out now. UGH!! Advice? I'm 34 pounds down now. I'm stalled but feel like it's because I'm not eating enough. I cannot do yogurt or much cheese as I have a hard time with milk products as well. Ack! One more thing I'll add is that I found I can't tolerate sugar free things either. I don't know if it's the xylitol, artificial sweeteners or what. Not eating sugary things either.
  3. Hi all, Im 37 and injust got my MGB revision 20 days ago. I was sleeved 10 years ago and never reached my goal weight. After babies and hormonal BC i gained a lot back. I feel surprised now tho. I feel i havent loose much these days. I just started Phase 3 and where i live (Middle east) is very hard to find sugar free, fat free products and im wondering if is the greek yogurt (flavored) and the protein drink the ones that arent helping. Both say they dont have added sugar but have sugars at the end. Also i dont feel there is really a restriction in my stomach. Im still hungry, i can eat half cup of food, i can drink a whole glass of water with no issues... such a different experience than the sleeve. Im scared of failure. Im passing very light yellow stools i dont know why and is so painful. Sometimes i wonder if there was a surgery after all. Any ideas of why this weight loss is so slow?
  4. Roasted eggplant 1/2c (18cal) wraps (50g lettuce = 8 cal) with homemade salsa (10 cal). Low calorie, but filling, dinner. I ate 4 mini samosas at lunch [emoji24] so I ran out of calories lol.
  5. I think it’s best you have a Plan B and have a driver take you home. I had my surgery June 7. I stayed in hospital til June 9. Today June 10, I am still taking pain meds. I would not dream of going to work until a week later. And i have high tolerance for pain. Good luck to you if you can do it. Also get a pillow to go home to place over your stomach while in the car you will need it.

It feels like it took forever and no time at all to get here, I am excited to see what’s next for me, I just want it to be here already I am getting very eager to get on that hospital bed count back from 10 and wake up in my hospital room
  7. Hey pals looking for some tips and motivation… i had Vsg April 10 and i was progressing in my food stages good until 3wks ago, i can’t keep anything foods or liquids down… i was suggested by the surgical team to take a step back into liquid and purées but nothing has been staying down. I know I’m not eating or drinking fast, back to using the medicine cups and even trying different temperatures but the end result is always vomiting… I’ve been to the er 2 times and gotten ultrasounds and ct scans but told everything is normal…. I feel so weak and dehydrated and i want to get back to normalcy

    Insomnia

I wonder if it’s an absorption issue. Worth asking your surgeon & prescribing doctor. Many find time release meds don’t work as well after a bypass. Check where the meds are absorbed too - tummy or intestines. There are usually alternative formulations or meds you can take instead. I wasn’t a great sleeper before my surgery. Not insomnia. I usually could fall asleep, but would wake & lie there for 3 or 4 hours or just not go back to sleep. It started in my late 30s. Stress/cortisol levels, then age (menopause), etc. contributed & I think waking & not sleeping became a of a habit too - usually woke at the same time. Now I get in 8 hours most nights. I have odd nights of waking for an hour or so but I will go back to sleep. Some nights I even get in 9 or 10 hours. Thank you surgery. I hope it may help you somewhat as well.
  9. Hi! I’m Emily, new here, so pardon me if this question has been answered more than once, or not in the right category. I swear I’ve looked all over for answers prior to asking. I have my first appt. With the surgeon Monday to begin the 6 month pre op program. I vape, well, stopped yesterday and I’m using patches and gum to wean off before end of July. I was doing well mentally until I learned that quitting almost always causes weight gain. Minimum of 5-10 pounds. I was told by a friend that I cannot gain any weight during the 6 month process but don’t have to lose a certain amount ( she went to the same surgeon I’m seeing) I am also learning how to eat better on top of all of this, and I’m so scared that when I quit nicotine all together, it’s going to inevitably cause weight gain. I don’t want to be kicked out of the program as soon as I start because of this. Would it be better to wait until I absolutely have to quit? Maybe that’s a stupid question. I just need encouraging words, anybody that has been down this path of quitting, whether you instead waited to quit a month or two before surgery, etc. I am so serious about taking my health back, and it’s hard enough to learn to cool and eat right without having to stress about this too. please help 🥺 thank you in advance! ps. Maybe this is trivial, maybe it’s not a big a deal as I’m making it, but even a fraction of a pound I gain could get me kicked out of the program.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Hi All! So a little over two years, and it's mostly all good news! I've run like 6 5k races now, but I hurt my knew in April and haven't run for 2 months. Started running again this week, but it's amazing how hard it is to get back into that mindset. I'm 10lbs up from my goal weight that I had hit and maintained for a year so that's a little frustrating. I know I need to get back to basics, but that sugar craving is ROUGH! I also find that I'm mindlessly eating so that is part of what I need to nip in the bud before 10 becomes 20 and so on. It's so weird though... before I wouldn't have even noticed gaining 10lbs. Now I can FEEL it. Hope everyone else is doing well!

    OOTD

Had my sleeve in August of 2019. My HW was 316 (groan) and my CW stays between 158 to 160. I pretty much eat whatever I want but in much smaller portions and reasonable exercise. My doctor didn’t want me to go below 165 because of all the loose skin. He was afraid I would be underweight (as if that has ever happened). I am still debating getting a plastic surgery (I am 71 and wondering if it is worth the expense and pain at my age). The best part of the surgery is the confidence I have about not putting the weight back on.

u still around lots of us 2018-2019 surgeries aren't around much anymore! how u doing?
  14. Just went on an awesome vacation and just loved it. First, I noticed the change in how my airplane seatbelt fit. There was so much leftover belt. Then, while on a short hike, I RAN uphill (sure, only about 10 steps, but still... I RAN!) just for fun. But the most important one for me ... was the amount of pictures I allowed others to take of me. I haven’t had that many photos taken in so long.... and I felt great looking at them!

    August surgery buddies!

I had to start working out more to get back to the 10-12 range. And I am still trying to stay under 1000 cal a day. I had a lot to lose though and I think that has a lot to do with it. I still have a lot to lose.

Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.

I am 50yrs old and had gastric bypass dec. 19. My surgeon recommended gb over the sleeve because I have gerd and he said the sleeve would make it worse. I was disappointed and wasn't sure about being re-routed. I agreed as I trusted my surgeon. I do not regret my decision. I had very little discomfort from the surgery. I have had no problems with gerd. I was hoping that my body would reject sugar but it does not. My surgeon had told me prior to surgery that dumping syndrome is only a possible side effect. I have had a few very mild cases, keep in mind I am a sugar-holic. I can still consume sugar and fat moderately. I have found that I prefer protein shakes to food most of the time. I don't and never have liked cooking. If you enjoy cooking and your recipes you will probably be able to tolerate it in small amounts. One thing I've found is that you don't know what your stomach can handle until after the surgery. It is different for everyone. Some are sensitive to sugar and fat, some are not. There's no way to tell ahead of time. My only regret is that I still get hungry and my stomach still growls (not the gurgle you hear when it's circling the drain that is different). Gastric bypass does not completely get rid of ghrelin. Once I got my routine down it lessened. Hopefully will stop soon. Don't overthink and worry too much. Just take it one step at a time, your body will tell you what to do. Once you heal, you should be able to eat normally for the most part in small amounts as I do. This is my first post ever so forgive me if I've rambled or responded incorrectly.

    Bariatric Myths??

thanks! I'd like to lose about 10 lbs, though. I did need to gain some weight, but these last 10 lbs I could do without. My doctor says to quit worrying about it because I look fine, but it's a mental thing with me, I think. I liked seeing those low numbers!!

    Going "camping"

We park our RV at the lake for the season and spend almost every weekend there. A bit less this year since the surgery. I call it glamping because there's internet, AC and Netflix. LOL For soft food phase, I like to make a big roast in my Instapot, then shred it , adding SF BBQ sauce with a side of baked beans, coleslaw or pea salad. Sometimes I'll make a low-fat gravy/ shredded roast beef or chicken and put over mashed potato. Grilled asparagus is always good or any other cooked green veggie. Ground beef Sloppy Joes is another alternative with low-fat cottage cheese. Big pot of chili or soup if it's a cool night. My beverage of choice besides water is ice cold Crystal Light Raspberry Tea. And my freezer is stocked with SF Popsicles/Fudgesicles. Not the typical camping food but it works. On occasion I allow myself a 3 carb whole wheat tortilla for making a wrap. But then I'm on normal diet phase now. I'm holding back on grilled steak atm or hamburger/hotdogs. And I can't eat anything from the marina grill. Everything is deep fat fried except for a $10 green salad with grilled chicken which I haven't tried yet. Definitely need to catch more fish this year. I ate most of what was in the freezer during my pre-op diet. Baked oven crisp crappie, walleye, white bass and catfish. Yum Hope you have fun and enjoy your trip!!

This was weight before my first WLS in 2009 , which was the gastric band. In 2014 I had a revision to the gastric sleeve. I went down to 160lbs by 2019. Then the pandemic started and I went back up to 235. I had another revision in March of 2013 to a RNY bypass. Surgery wt 219.

    June 2021- calling all Vets!

Hello Mari! I guess I took what I needed from this site and moved on to other sources. Thank you for asking: I am doing well indeed. Funny how I have read how so many are terrified of surgery because I was not at all in that place when I had mine. I guess I am a bit obsessive about researching and reading everything, scientific and anecdotal about a subject before I pull the trigger on anything. WLS was no different. I was at rock bottom and it seemed the best course of action at the time. And you know what? It still is, in my not so humble opinion. I am still plugging along. I have been at a weight that seems to be effortless and a long-time set point for me, albeit 20 pounds over where I would like to be. That being said, I am still over 100 pounds lower (give or take: 107 pounds down from highest recorded, and most likely 127+ pounds down from an unrecorded weight due to not visiting doctor and not stepping on a scale at my most miserable and judging from my pictures.) Right now I am working on taming my stress because it leads to disordered crap eating and high cortisol...and no way will that 20 pounds come off when my body and mind are just searching for solace (usually found in inappropriate foods and the hell to pay on the digestive system.) Even if I stay right where I am, I am ok with that. I am able to buy clothing at any regular store and feel good. That for me remains priceless. So why even bother? Ah. Well. Since I retired after 30 years in public education, I have taken a pt library page position. I am on my feet, stretching and bending and basically sweating all in the course of doing my 19 hour a week job. Combined with daily dog walks, I am active. It has been hell on my feet. From all I have been researching, the only thing I have yet to do, but what will probably help the most with my foot pain, is releasing the extra 20 pounds that came on due to sloppy habits. The best thing is that I am convinced that it will happen. Best of luck to you on your journey. <3
  21. I'd venture to say that gastric bypass surgery and hernia repair will not only resolve the GERD for you but also help with your breathing. I had both procedures back in April of this year. My doctor said 10% of my stomach was pushed up through my diaphragm. No wonder I couldn't breathe to do anything and had horrible acid reflux. I am so thankful for this surgery. It gave me my life back and hope repairing that hernia will free up your breathing along with curing the GERD like it did mine. Good luck.
  22. I didn't need help, either. My husband took a week off but ended up going back to work after two days. It was nice having him get things for me (like my protein shakes), although I could have done it myself. I think I was restricted to lifting up to 10 lbs max for the first month or so - so lifting your dog may be a bit much. Pet stairs would be a good solution (my 18-year-old arthritic cat uses those to get up on my bed)

    August surgery buddies!

I haven't lost anything close to 10 lbs any month this year. The last month I lost a significant amount of weight was December 2022. This year it's 1-2 pounds per month, even less. I've been tracking my eating more religiously these last few weeks, and a typical day is 1100-1200 kcal. Shouldn't I be losing or is that enough for maintenance? Will I have to go even lower? I'm getting 50-60 grams of protein most days.

    Attending school while losing

Good to hear it wears off. I work in an office and went back 10 days out, feeling okay except I can’t believe how exhausted I get! Luckily, they are very understanding. Will be glad when that goes away!
  25. it's very common to have a 10-20 lb rebound weight gain after hitting your lowest weight. It's more your body "settling in" to its new set point. Happens to most of us in year 2 or 3. However, beyond that, it's up to you. If you continue to monitor your food intake and keep active, you'll be able to maintain your new weight. If you let old habits slip back in and start eating like you did before surgery, you'll end up gaining most of it back.
