I am a really picky eater, always have been but I was still over the years able to pack on the pounds. I decided to have the surgery because I was tired, had really high blood pressure and was always the big girl with the pretty face. I am having issues because I throw up alot. I don't like fish, I don't like squash, I don't like to cook anymore. We are empty nesters, my kids have been gone for years now. I kind of quit cooking because it was just my husband and I. We went out a lot. Now, I am at the point that I don't know what to eat. I think I still eat too fast. I am drinking protein supplements and eating eggs. That is getting boring. Everything that I really like is not good any longer. Any suggestions????

this that fall on the floor stay there?
Lanakila replied to riamonsterz's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
People think I'm crazy when they see it, but I pick things up with my feet and bring them up high enough to reach. My whole family does it and it is generally so fast that folks take a double-take. If we have socks on the floor, we grab em with the toes and bring them up in from of your knee (twisting the knee, not lifting it). Just high enough so that you can grab them with your hand. Depending on what it is, we also bring it up behind our thighs. It's gotten harder as I've gotten bigger, but I still pick up socks, washcloths, etc. that way. -
Restriction Question
elcee replied to justinsmami91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is normal. Some foods are difficult to eat and will fill you up really quickly e.g solid Protein such as meat/chicken. Other foods go down really easily so it takes lots to fill you up. They are called slider foods and you should try to avaoid them. They include crisps, chocolate, icecream, Desserts etc. Some sliders are OK in small quantities as they provide imprtant nutrients e.g yogurt. I am not surprised you got stuck on a hard boiled egg. I have always found them dry and really difficult to eat even preband. The thing is to always eat slowly, small bites and chew really well. If you do get stuck stop eating and don't try to drink as it makes it worse. I generally try to burp or cough the stuck item up as when it comes up you get relief. Some people guzzle a fizzy drink really quickly. Apparently this unblocks you and brings iit up really fast so only do it near a toilet or sink!Others swear by papaya enzymes but for me they do nothing. In time you will figure out what works for you. Also the optimum level of fill to achieve restriction is different for everyone. Some people have 10 cc bands with only 1 or 2cc and they are restricted. Others have overfilled bands. As for the scale............ I still jump on it EVERY morning! -

A little TOO easy?
Arzel Phenomenal Ivy replied to melzie_99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW. That is fast. I have been going to appointments since November and classes will not be done until January than I will get a surgery date. I think I would have postponed the surgery too. I'm still shock of reading your post. -
Maybe I'm just not used to things going smoothly, but here goes: so I had my nutrition class, psych eval and surgical consult all this afternoon. The nutrition class a little haphazard and not too well put together for what I was expecting. The psych eval consisted of an addiction's therapist (they said it's cheaper that way) asking a couple of questions on a sheet and running off. I actually had to keep asking HIM questions because it all felt so rushed. The surgical consult was a LITTLE better, but the doctor still zoomed through his speech. (It WAS very informative, however). Long story short, everyone thinks I'm an excellent candidate and should have no problems getting insurance approval and wanted to schedule for surgery on 12/23. Meaning I'd have to start my 2 week diet TOMORROW, according to them. I told them it felt a little rushed and needed some more time to wrap my head around the fact this may be actually happening and went with 1/10. I start my diet 12/27. While this is going totally according to my idealized plan (I wanted to be banded no later than Valentine's Day), I guess I just didn't think it'd be THAT fast. Did anyone else feel rushed once the ball got rolling or am I being whiny? I apologize in advance to all of you guys who have to wait 2-6 months for everything...

A little TOO easy?
isaviolinist replied to melzie_99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That seems strange to me. I wasn't rushed through anything (appointments, multiple meetings with my surgeon, meetings with members of his team etc) and felt that I had all my questions answered, my surgeon knew my history very thoroughly, I was familiar with all the members of the surgical team etc... One thing I would think about: Lapband requires so much follow-up. Meaning you'll need to have a longterm relationship with your surgeon, and the members of his staff/office. If you are comfortable with him and his staff despite how hasty/disorganized/disinterested (or whatever else) they have been, then go for it. If you feel the least bit uncomfortable, I would run the other direction and fast. -
Bowl Movement Post Op
HappyCamper replied to ComCoach's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem after surgery. Someone suggested taking Benefiber, and that did the trick. You can mix it in your shakes, pudding, or anything else. It doesn't thicken up like Metamucil, so you don't have to guzzle it down fast. Hope this helps. -
I eat very healthy food, organic whenever possible. I still don't eat more then a cup at each meal (I still use a cup to measure) I don't eat processed food no fast food...... I have joined a gym last October.....I can not walk more then about a block or two.....I do ride my bike, youga and garden.

April Bunnies threads have helped me so much...now I really need to put some thought into minigoals so I do not get discouraged if things are not moving as fast as I would like. Thanks for the suggestion. -
Hey, thanks for the support. I watched the video today...the good part was I could fast forward through the endless speeches! :-) It's all good. I'm hoping I've had my 'complication' now so everything from here will go great! Best wishes to you all.

Just got banded June 22, need some advice
Acadia replied to feistybeagle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any fiber drink mix should work and won't make your system work too hard. If it doesn't work, mix 1 L of water with 2 tsp natural sea salt. Dissolve the salt in hot water first then mix with a large quantity of cold water to make it easier. It will go through you FAST. Be near a toilet. And make sure you have around three hours because it can take a while to clear out completely. -
vitamins, vitamins vitamins!
Paloma68 replied to thatgirlT's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said no Vitamins until my follow up (on 8/22). I'm taking 2 flintstones just because I like them and they can't hurt. It was Ok to take birth control and thryoid meds. These are very small so I swallow them. Is anyone cutting regular vitamins and taking them? I tried crushing them but gagged on powder and couldn't chug down Water to wash off taste fast enough so no thanks. This is on list of issues for doc at follow up. -
My orders were No drinking 5 minutes before or 45 minutes after eating. The reason for this is the Fluid will wash the food out of your sleeve and you won't feel full for as long which may lead to grazing and eating too much because you're hungry all the time. There are actually YouTube videos that demonstrate how this works. In the beginning this won't be a problem. Your tiny tummy will get full so fast on so little food that drinking too soon will actually make you vomit. But as time goes on, it often just becomes a new habit you don't even have to think about. That being said, once I was in maintenance and well below goal I quit following this rule. My tummy had more room for both food and liquid after about 10 months and personally, I get hungry every 2-3 hours whether I drink or not. The key is just not to overeat. But in general, the no drinking rule is something that should be followed for life.

I started with mashed potatoes, soups, fish. I'm still eating soft foods and was banded 4/2. I don't feel restriction but I sure don't want to mess up my band either. Only time I find I have a hard time is if I eat too fast. Gotta slow myself down. I'm taking baby steps,

I'm glad you are okay Alex. That is a horrible situation to go through. I don't do well with chinese food. I think because it is a little too stringy for me. I am also still a big offender of eating too fast. Still working on that. Take care of yourself.

I Failed The Lapband - Please Help Me.
dramastarr replied to Suznty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I recently was on a modified Daniel fast. I still ate fish and chicken because we have to have our protien. I am saying this becuase I found when I was fasting and praying something happened. I was able to hear what God needed me to hear. Food was not all of that after a while and there was a slip up in my 28day journey, but it did make me stronger. Fast something and pray about it. It does change things. You are not a failure. A failure throws their hands up and says oh well, you are seeking advice. -
Yes it really works, not quite as fast as you may like but it is consistent. When you are full, you ARE full. I am happy to lose a bit slower so that my skin is not all sagging, and my co workers think i am just being successful on another diet for once! I haven't exercized at all YET(but am planning to start), and i am still losing. I cheated by eating halloween candy but did not gain which is a miracle itself. I love my band!

If your already insurance approved things should move along pretty fast. The psych evaluation if they do it the same will be in test format. They will ask questions and then later in test they will ask the same question and maybe reword it slightly. All sorts of things but nothing that is overly strange. The nutritionist should be fine as well. I had to do a sleep apnea study overnight, a pulmonary test, think they did a chest xray, but I did the sleep test then the next morning went straight into the other testing right at the same location. They might not require all those since your insurance already approved. My guess is that you will be scheduled pretty fast and heal up before school.

Eating 3/4cup per meal, but getting hungry often- Fill time?
dustout posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The last time I needed a fill, I was eating about 1 and 1/4 cup food, and getting hungry between meals and snacking. Right now, I'm only eating 3/4 cup food, but I lways get hungry between meals now and am snacking between meals as a result, to hold me over (trying to stick to healthy snacking, but its still adding too many calories). I was just wondering if others get hungry between meals when they need a fill, even if they aren't eating a whole lot more than half a cup. My doctor seems a bit strict on giving fills if you are eating less than a cup, but I'm hungry often. I swear it's generally not head hunger, though I have experienced that (head hunger to me feels more like a craving, actual hunger more in my stomach). The lack of hunger just doesn't seem to last long lately... perhaps a couple of hours. Also, I'm NEVER getting any kind of stuck feeling or caught in the stomach feeling. I used to get it occassionally for a second or two if I rushed things or carelessly swallowed a large chunk. I THINK I'm just stopping too early or something at the hint of satisfaction and it's the food moves through too fast. So in short, do you ever need a fill due to getting hungry too soon rather than just eating too large amounts? Is the band tricking me into stopping eating before I get enough of the 'full' sensation to keep me satisfied long enough? I'm not losing very much weight anymore either. I do need to exercise more, but at the same time, I'm still doing some and making healthy food choices... but I'm eating pretty often the past couple of weeks. It's solid foods (mostly chicken and various veggies and such) and I'm not drinking for a little bit before and for at least 30 mins after and I try to stretch that to an hour if im not too thirsty. Thanks for your advice. I just dont want to go into my doctor and be denied a fill or anything. It just seems like I should be eating larger quanties if I needed a fill. I've only had two fills that gave actual restriction, with the last one giving me the most. I'm still kind of getting used to this fill stuff. Oh, and I've lost about 22 pounds since my last fill about 9 weeks ago. More than the 2lb/wk. Most of my weight loss was in the beginning though. -
So all my adult life I've complained that I can not lose weight and suddenly I think I may b losing too much too fast.....should I be worried? I am 6 days post op and have lost 15 lbs. I'm drinking my protein and usually can get in 1/2 cup of cream soup in a day. Feeling ok just a little concerned....
