After a 3 week stall, my scale finally moved enough today to put me in the overweight category. It's the first time in a decade (since right after my lap band) that I'm not obese or morbidly obese!

Thanks for the comments guys. It really helps. I also had the surgery so that I could be free from the obsessive dieting that was ruling my life. I like the Protein first philosophy. I guess I was worried because I'm in the midst of the dreaded 3 week stall. I know it will pass... I was just starting to slip into my old thinking patterns re: I have to go on a diet. Thanks Guys Stacey

I've seen people say increase liquids, protein, and calories to break the stall. I had the 3 week stall and broke it with the above plus exercise. And I don't cheat at all. Carbs are evil. Maybe go back to logging your food and see if there are hidden calories?

8 Weeks Out - Slow Scale Movement!
BABEwiththePOWER posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know we're not supposed to compare our weightloss to one another's, but I can't help but feel like a 35lb loss since my surgery on April 19th, isn't really stellar. I had hoped, based on what I'd seen others go through, to be down by about 50 by now. I know I'm losing inches, but silly me, I forgot to measure myself on the day of surgery... but I was a 20/22 the day of surgery, and I just bought a 14 dress on Friday that fits great. That's a big deal, I know, but for some reason, I can't Celebrate without that reaffirmation from the scale. I did hit a 3 week stall around week 4, and then it picked up again, slowly, but at least started losing again. I need to get to the gym more, but with 2 kiddos under 4 at home, it doesn't come too easily. I can probably also do better with the calorie counting. The last week or two I stopped tracking my calories, but I also really don't eat much. I make sure to take all my Vitamins, get my Water and Protein in, but after that, I just take a couple bites at each meal. Maybe I should start tracking again, but I read a post a while back that has really stuck in my brain - it talked about how the poster lost weight with VSG, but slowly- because they ate whatever they wanted, just less of it. This was to avoid the "diet mentality" and the aftermath of what happens when the dieting/deprivation phase ends. I really think all of my past failures with diets were for that reason exactly. I would be all crazy for a week or two, then quit because it was too drastic, and not just a simple lifestyle choice. I know we should take advantage of the first six months post op because we have the opportunity to lose the most weight then, and I don't want to fail, but I'm at a loss for how to feel right now. Sorry, long post, just needed to vent I guess. -
I'm 13-days post op. I lost 19-pounds during the 2-week prep liquid diet. In the first 10-days I dropped 16-pounds putting me below 300 for the first time in a year. Then, after I shared my news, I was back up to 301. I weighed today and I'm at 300. I don't eat the fruit or the shake, but I do drink Isopure No Carb 40 every day. I'm a little bummed to, but I keep hearing about the 3-week stall. All I know for sure is that everyone on the sleeve loses weight if they stay away from the junk that got us here in the first place. We can't fail. It's physically impossible. Our bodies do have to get used to the "new normal," so try to hang in there and trust the doctor and all those who have successfully gone before us. Sounds like you've lost and kept off over 30-pounds! Congratulations! Let's support each other in what we have lost and how great that feels!

So depressed, I almost cried in Dr's office.

He told me Im doing well and not to worry about it. He told me the loss will be like steps and landings, not like a slide. Ive heard of the 3 week stall, but technically its been week 2 and 3 stall for me. I feel like im doing so well, not 1 cheat and doing everything possible and NOTHING. It will take a few days to get rid if the funk and the feeling that Ive wasted my time. -
HELP Met with surgeon today - Confused!

I have around 100 lbs to lose and have lost 46.5 lbs in just 3 1/2 months. I am just rounding the corner where I have really good restriction where the weight will be coming off more consistently. I have had 2-3 week stalls in just this time period which is frustrating but I know it will eventually kick in again and it has. I am on my third fill and am getting great restriction and am feeling very confident in the rest coming off. My sister has had the band for just 3 months and she has lost 53 lbs. Just another example for you that if you work at it, you will succeed at this. Good luck in your journey!!! -
The scale is not moving!
Rebecca Jo Ragon replied to jencooper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That happened to me. Huge weight loss when I went back for my first visit and then nothing for a couple weeks. Many people refer to a 3 week stall. However, mine started the second week. Either way, if you are getting in your Protein and Water things are happening. You will see weight loss. I don't know all of the scientific reasons why the body holds on to weight like it does and then suddenly releases it. Truth be told, I am not sure the doctors fully understand it either. LOL! Anyway, focus on the water and protein and avoid the scales for a few days and then go back to them. They will start moving in the right direction. Good luck! -
You're in the 3 week stall, and it's very common. If I were you, I would trade in those crackers for some cheese, or a higher Fiber carby food such as Beans or edamame. The veggies will give you more fiber, and probably help you feel better in general. If you cook the veggies, try steaming(microwave or stovetop method) or roasting them in the oven. I'm not sure if you can have veggies yet, just check with your nutritionist or surgeon. Also, take your measurement right now, tonight. Measure around your waist, hips, thighs, and chest at least. If the scale doesn't move the next week remeasure and see if you're losing inches. The scale will move, I promise. Your body just dropped 20lbs in 2weeks, been through major surgery, and your feeding it about 1/3 of the calories you ate pre-op. It's kind of pissed off at you for everything you've done to it. Sip more water, try to hit that 60+ mark, that will help keep you from retaining water. Don't stress, your body will hold on to more weight. Put the scale away and don't weigh until Saturday or Monday.

Post op 13 days....gaining weight?!
bluesclues posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I know I shouldn't be checking my weight everyday but I can't help it! Just the past few days my scale is showing me a higher number then what I was after I ended stage 1 liquid diet (Monday). Is this like the 3 week stall but earlier? Also, I'm always hungry...been drinking Water and etc. and having my Protein shakes as well. I take a PPI as well...what gives? Will my sleeve be more restricting when I move to the pureed/mashed stage? Sorry for all the questions...just bumming out a bit here b/c I've also had to adjust my insulin a lot and wondering if that's the culprit -
Very disappointing Surgeon Check-up

texashopeful- be patient. You have done great with your loss of 35 lbs in such a short amount of time. I had a 3 week stall about 5-6 weeks out. Your body is still healing. Give it time, and you will soon see some good drops every week! As long as you are getting your protein and water- it will be great. I am 12 weeks out, and 50 lbs down. I am very happy with that loss. I still have 80-90 to go! -
3 weeks post- op. No weight loss in 6 days?
juls0102 replied to BaseballMamma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks post op today...........I skipped the 3 week stall, but I'm having it now. I've lost 30 lbs so far but the scale hasn't moved in 4 days. I'm ok with that since I read about the dreaded 3 week stall.......I guess I'm just slow. =) I'm not able to get in 60 g of Protein yet. All Protein shakes make me gag. I am great with my Fluid intake though. I'm good with taking all my Vitamins. I'm working on getting the protein in. I feel like all I do all day is eat because I can only get in a couple bites before I feel full. This is definitely a process. =) You're doing AWESOME!!! -
i had my surgery on dec8 and have been on a 3 week stall.....the scale moves up n down .......my heaviest wt was 251 and day before surgery 228....today 209......BUT ..all my clothes are fallin off me .......from 3x tops to xl tops ...and tight22's to tight16's.....everybodys body is built differently ....but yeah, i stay bummed out on a daily basis cuz the scale is not moving , but my clothing sizes are ! I have been measuring myself too......but find it inaccurate as to exactly where i put the measuring tape the previous time .....a lil higher or lower on the hip makes a big differene in accuracy...i thought about putting a dot on my hip with a black permanent marker so i can be precise !!!

3 weeks post- op. No weight loss in 6 days?
Bufflehead replied to BaseballMamma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalling at three weeks out is completely normal. It happens to everyone. Use the search function here and look for "3 week stall" or "third week stall" or "dreaded three week stall" and you'll see what I mean. Keep following the program your doctor gave you and stay off the scale for a while - that will help you stress less about it, because there really isn't anything you can do other than wait it out. Good luck! -

Gained 6 lbs this week. 1 mo PO
Airstream88 replied to lf1227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probably aren't eating enough yet. My NUT has all her WLS patients eating 5 times a day - - every 3 -4 hours. Protein and fluids were our only goal at 1 month - no calorie counting. At that time I was just starting to eat solid foods and could barely eat more than 1oz of solid meat like chicken, steak, etc. We weren't allowed to have any raw or fibrous veggies until week 6. But I never had any room for veggies anyway until the 3rd month. I was probably averaging 400 -600 calories at that point increasing to 800 by the end of month two. You may be experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall. Our bodies have gone through a lot with this surgery and sometimes take a break. Are you constipated? Is it that time of the month? Are you walking or exercising yet? -
Chickmelove I was the same way until I added more calories to my Diet!! When I started eating more the 3 week stall stopped. Message me if you want more details Hang in there!!

Congrats Sharie24, I'm just a little bummed. I will be 5 weeks out tomorrow and have only lost 20 post op. I shouldn't say "only", because I know 25 pounds in just 5 weeks is amazing...and I'm certainly glad I didn't gain 25 pounds. It just seems like every time I read a message on almost every topic area on this site, people are losing 30-35-40 in just 4 to 5 weeks. I did go to a nutritionist yesterday, because I did the self-pay route in Mexico to be able to afford. The care was exceptional, but the one piece that they were pretty thin on was nutrition and diet. The nutritionist told me the reason most people complain of the "3-week stall" is that your body thinks you are trying to starve it. Once it gets balanced...and gets balanced nutrition...is starts shedding the fat rather that clinging on to it or dear life. What are some of the things you are doing to have lost such a significant amount of weight. Any tips to share? What was your pre-op weight? Did you get weighed the day after surgery? What was that weight? I certainly understand if you'd rather keep that information private. I was just hoping to get an idea as to why you are having such great success and maybe incorporate some of your feedback into my own routine. Thanks, Marybeth As of today I am 3 weeks out of surgery an 47lb down since my post-op appt. I am starting to realize that I am not loosing weight like I was is that normal?

Yup Hit The Infamous Stall

I fear the 3 week stall as I am 9 days post op and only down 6 :/ 14 if I count all the fluid I gained in hospital and lost this first week too. I'm already a slow loser out of the gate :/ hellllppppp!!! 30 is wonderful! Hang in there we will all push through! -
My 3 week stall lasted 10 days. But during it I noticed changes in the appearance of my body. (Parts shrinking). This week I started off with a 3 pound weight loss, and another one today, so 4 pounds this week. Hang in there, you are doing great!! It will happen.... I'm a believer now. Lisa

Finally! After almost a 3 week stall it broke this morning and I am at 198.2!!!!! It is WONDERFUL in ONEderland!!! These 13-15 pounds that I have been dealing with for about 4-5 months (when I actually tipped 199) have drove me craaazy! I am here to tell everyone that the stalls DO break and as frustrating as it was DURING the stall, stepping on that scale and FINALLY seeing it MOVE is soooooo REFRESHING!!!!!!!!!!!! So everyone that is about 5 1/2 weeks out.... tie a knot at the end of your rope and hang in there, this too shall pass if you are in a stall!!!! ALWAYS KEEP ROCKIN' YOUR SLEEVE!!!! XOXOXOX! Amy

Weight fluctuates for many reasons. Water retention, constipation, hormones etc....especially if you're weighing every day or several times a day you'll see the fluctuations. I suspect you're going into your "Dreaded 3 week stall" a little early. It happens to 98% of us, and the cuplprit is glycogen storage due to starvation mode. It causes weight to stall or even gain a little when it happens. You're not doing anything wrong at all. Just stay the course, make sure your're getting all your Protein and fluids, and if the fluctuations or stalls bother you, try to stay off the scale.

Amount of weight lost in four weeks?
Kindle replied to New nana's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I rarely weighed myself that early on, but I dug up some of my old posts and found these stats... 1 week...up 5 pounds 7 weeks....down 17 pounds 10 weeks......still stalled at 17 pounds After that I lost fairly steady and only had a few 2-3 week stalls along the way. But as you can see if you fast forward, my slow start does not reflect my overall success..... Down 78 pounds (surgeons goal) at 6 1/2 months Down 88 pounds (personal goal) at 7 1/2 months Currently down 97 pounds at 9 months Just keep on your plan and remember you are in this for the long haul and the numbers on the scale really aren't that important. As for my scale, I don't even own one. I weigh myself once a week on the dog scale at work so I have something to post on here. I weigh fully clothed, with shoes or boots, sometimes in the morning, sometimes after lunch. The accuracy really doesn't matter to me because I measure my success by how I feel, how my clothes fit and NSVs. Good luck! -
Embrace Your Stall And Enjoy Your Success..inches Will Equal Lbs.
TheSkinnyCow73 replied to BluebonnetMagonlia's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I love this!!!!! I had the same 3 week stall happen to me and it was soooo frustrating! Even though we are losing inches, there is something about that dang scale and its numbers that make it all the more real that the weight is coming off! I keep having to remind myself that I didnt gain it overnight and I am not going to lose it overnight! Keep rockin' that sleeve! You look wonderful!!!!
