  1. Welcome to the 3 week stall. If you do a search of the topics on this site, you will see it is very common and happened to almost every single one of us. Carry on as usual. This too shall pass. One day you will wake up and be at goal weight like me ????. In the meantime, I found it helpful to read posts from others further along in the process so I would know what to expect. There seems to be a predictable pattern to this madness. I'm now a little over a year out from WLS and the repetitive postings tell me we seem to have similar experiences!

    3 week post-op stall

It's the "3 week stall". Completely normal and will pass. No one could have convinced me (many tried) back then. Hang in there. Good things coming your way!

    3 week post-op stall

Please search for 3 week stall on this site and you will find how common this is. Also one week with no loss is not really a stall. When you go several weeks with no loss then I would suggest your body might be taking a break. Just keep following the plan and the break will end. Your body is just waiting to see what you will do next.

    3 week post-op stall

@ We had surgery the same day. I have one more week of full fluids. I haven't weighed myself again since my 2 week follow up. From other forums I believe a 3 week stall is normal. How are you doing otherwise?

    Buddy's in Manchester

Hi I had mine done at the Spire Manchester hospital, after attending the 2 year weight loss plan my doctors would not allow me to go through the procedure on the NHS due to my age which was 24 at the time even though I had gone through 2 years on the management course plus another 2 years worth of councelling and maintenance all of which was a complete waste of time as if I had known I would of have to gone privately I would have done years ago. Well done with your weight loss you have done fantastically well!! I have a lot more to lose then you I am 6 weeks out of surgery and 19kg down so far even after my 3 week stall with 71kg to go. I personally researched as much as I could read blogs just like you I even watched the surgery being done on YouTube to ensure I knew what I was getting myself into. Your fears are normal and if you feel your not ready it's okay to push your date back a bit till you are. Only you can decide when the time is right for you. The fear you have is completely normal, anyone especially if you have never had an operation before has this fear. Whilst every operation has its risks having a sleeve done isn't usually associated with death. My dad took me to the hospital on the morning of my operation and said to me i had a quadruple heart bypass and was at the time i was 27 stone if i can wake up from that you can wake up from this. My story was 17th March (day 1) I was in the hospital at 7 am got changed into a gown and had bloods taken, had special DVT socks put on and had an blood thinning injection into my stomach and had to do a pregnancy test just to be sure as I am over the age of 13. At 7.30 am my surgeon and the anesthestist came round to me know what was going to happen etc. By 8.30 am my blood work etc had come back okay and I walked to the operating rooks said goodbye to ny dad met all the team of doctors and nurses that would be looking after me and got onto the operating table. A canular was placed into my hand and the anesthestist saw my tattoo on my foot and asked me which artist did them and do I have any plans to get anymore and before I had any chance of replying I was out for the count. Around 11.30 was when I woke up (they had a fire alarm test due at the hospital and I remember hearing the siren) to a nurse telling me it was okay where I was and to rest. At this point I just felt tired there is no pain at all due to the morphine but I would say do not fight the urge to sleep just go as you need at the rest you can and it can only make you feel nauseous. Around 1pm I was out of recovery and back in my room surrounded by family ( I will be honest at this point George Clooney could have been in my room and I wouldn't have known) you will be resting a lot and sleeping all the drugs off for most of the day. By 8pm I was ready to try walking as I needed the loo so I got up walked to my en-suite and walked back again. The incisions were twinging a bit but nothing I couldn't handle but I did sit up for a bit and through up a little blood. This was as a result of surgery where a little blood had escaped up above my stomach and just needed to come out. It was only small amounts and happened on the first 3 times I got up throughout the night but never happened again. Through the day the nurses checked on my pain levels gave me medication when I needed it and took my blood pressure. The following morning I got up took a shower washed my hair ect and got myself dressed and sat in a chair. That day around 12 pm I tried some Soup only about 3 small spoonfuls and was sipping Water throughout the day. Again much the same as the day before the nurses checked by blood pressure and pain levels all day. By 8.30 pm I had seen my surgeon again and he said I could go home. The ride home took about an hour as going over bumps isn't pleasant about this point and literally got into bed surrounded myself with pillows so I couldn't roll over in the night and slept for 12 hours. The following few days are all about you sipping soup getting water in and and managing your own pain levels. I was given fast tab which stop the acid production in your stomach soluble Co codomol and an injection of blood thinning medicine into my stomach that I had to do myself once a day. You will be fine I assure you, the only complication I have had is not getting enough water in which left me dehydrated and I spent 9 hours in crumpsall hospital on a drip but that's it. Just stick to your diet 2 weeks liquid 2 weeks puree 2 weeks sifts 2 weeks solid go at the rate your body tells you and speak to your dietitian I do every few days even if it is just to say do you recommend I should try this or is this normal and whilst I assure no expert at all I am always here if you want to ask me something. I am now 7 weeks out on Tuesday and feeling good my fatigue levels are getting a lot better and I am going swimming and for walks with my dog every day, get yourself into a routine and be prepared I made homemade Soups a couple of days before I went in. And if you wanna talk or ask any questions feel free.

    And So Our Journey Begins...

I'm so glad I had read through your post from the beginning before.. I'm in my 3 week stall.. I've been stalled almost three weeks. Actually gaining 2.6 pounds last Friday, and still have .2 of that to go.. hope it starts moving again!
  8. So I keep reading about it! How long has it lasted for each of you guys?
  9. I had my second follow up on 4/14, and my Dr. and Nut wanted to increase my calories 800-1000. I had been getting in about 4-600 calories a day, and hit the 3 week stall, so I've been stalled about 2 weeks now. This morning I was up 2.6 pounds. I'm trying hard not to freak out about it, but I am definitely having the feelings of this isn't going to work for me and wtf. So, did this happen to anyone else? I'm focusing on getting in my Protein and liquids. I've been getting at least 60-85 grams of protein a day, and mostly staying lower carbs. They want me to start getting in more veggies also. I'm still mostly soft foods right now. Any advice?
  10. I'm 10 weeks out, and I eat about 500-650 calories per day. I avoid pasta, bread, rice, anything really sweet, I feel sick to my stomach when I attempt to consume them. 3 weeks into my journey I hit a stall, and now the weight is coming off very slowly. My 3 month appointment is scheduled for the first week of May and I'm nervous about going since my surgeon made me feel bad about my 3 week stall.

    Ready to give up

You didn't say what you're eating, but try going back to basics. I did this after a 3 week stall and it worked. Eat only protein. No veggies or fruit. Try it for a week and see if it gives you a kick start.

    FRUSTRATED ....... stall

I didn't have a 3 week stall, but I am having one now at week 5. I expected this, I just hope it doesn't last long. I am anxious to take off another 20lbs.... Like you, I just keep following my plan, and know that eventually scales will move.
  13. I am only 9 weeks out of surgery, I am feeling great however for the past 3 weeks I have stalled. I have gained a pound, lost a pound, for 3 WEEKS!!! I am eating my 'soft' foods, getting in my Proteins, my Water, upp'd my exercise (walking) and still no change. I know all about the 3 week stall, that lasted about 6 days for me but not this 9 week stall. It's so frustrating and I feel like I am already a failure ..... anyone else experienced this?
  14. I am 6 months and 2 weeks out and I am BEYOND FRUSTRATED!!!! I think back to the days when I stalled for like 5 days and LAUGH!!! I am now on a 3 week stall. I have tried EVERYTHING. I am working out more than ever (rowing 5000 meters, running 2.5 miles daily), drinking 80+ ounces of water a day, get!!! Please tell me that it ends or give me any suggestions. I AM AT A LOSS!!!! I have lost 1 pound since March 26th.
  15. I'm also at a 3 week stall I was upset about it

    Memorial Day Challenge!

Don't feel like a failure... Weight loss is complicated. Just keep doing what your supposed to be doing and it will come off. I had a 3 week stall starting my 3rd week. I'm currently 9 months post op and it slow going, but I feel great. I've lost 146lbs since I started. While I'd like to get to below 200 I'm starting to feel like I'd be ok if I stayed where I'm at.

    Carbs, PCOS and VSG

I am a little over 3 months past surgery, and it sure has been an experience.I believe there isn't a prescriptive amount of carbs for anyone, even us who have PCOS. So far, after much testing no sign of insulin resiliency has been found, thought I have all the other symptoms. I started out my journey after surgery limiting carbs to 50 mg and under because that is what I was told, and also I read that it was good for PCOS. I eventually went through the inevitable 3 week stall, then was stalling much more than I thought I should/would. My NUT said to increase calories, so I did that. I had been having issues meeting my Protein levels- I also have an issue with a blanket range of protein being prescribed for everyone because our bodies are all different...but I digress. Over the past few weeks, for other reasons, I had to increase the amount of non-fruit/veggie carbs, and wondrously my weight started decreasing. This occurred simultaneously with hormone fluctuations due to my oncoming menstruation. We all have to pay attention to what our bodies want/need. We aren't all the same. I've find that menstrual hormones cause periods of low weight loss, especially two weeks or so before menstruation. I also discovered that during that time a slightly higher level of carbs will help me continue my weight loss. I'm not sure why as I haven't researched it, but it worked. Naturally I typically stay between 50-100mg of carbs because of my eating levels. I eat a whole food diet, with whole grains, and at times I do eat a cracker or two or have toast. I needed to be on the B.R.A.T diet when I had intestinal issues due to virus/bacteria/who knows, but I lost weight on that too even with toast and rice. My NUT is fully supportive of how I eat because we found it works for me and my specific issues. I don't feel bad about "playing around" with my nutrition only because I need to find out what my body wants and when it wants it, in addition to finding out what I need to do to support my weight loss. Good luck with yours!

200 lbs or more to lose?

Welcome! Congratulations on your new journey! I know how hard life has been being at such a high weight myself. My highest was 339! I was sleeved on 3/10/15 and have lost 36 pounds so far. Pre op I weighed 296. I still want to lose 180 more to hit the BMI and weight for my height. It's not the 200 you were looking for, but it's sure close in my eyes lol! I didn't post my weight at first either when I first started visiting this site, but as days went by, and reading all the other posts, my confidence got a little higher and higher. So finally I said what the heck! It's a weigh loss forum and why are we all here? So now, I'm up front with everything. Right now I'm experiencing the dreaded 3 week stall.. Been on it for a week now :-/ . Trying to stay motivated, I know it won't last, but dang it! It can get discouraging. So far my little tips that work for me: Never go past 3hrs without eating! I find if I do, I'm desperate for something and eat WAY too fast, and that hurts! Water water water.. Or G2 Gatorade.. Fluid fluid fluid. I find if I don't get enough fluids, NO ENERGY! And I try to get all my protein in the first couple times I eat for the day. I'll do a premier protein shake for bfast (30g protein), and then if I'm on the run I have a premier protein bar for snack(20g protein). Then when I do eat the rest of the day, I already know I got my protein in for the day. The gym is a must for me. I go 5-6 days a week. This is new to me. I started a month before my surgery. I find that on days I don't go, I beat myself up. Plus I feel much better after wards, plus I LOVE THE EXTRA ENERGY! I hope these encourage you. I know it's easier said than done. But I promise I am one to tell you, if I can do it, so can any one! Good luck to you!
  20. I am on a 3 week stall right now and am trying to stay positive. This last weekend while working out, my work out pants fell down...my husband thought it was funny. After a bit I had to smile too.

    Not losing anything? ?

I am going through the 3 week stall!!!! Glad I know it's normal!!! I am trying to eat every 2 hours and up my protein to help my weight loss. And I finally started to walk a little.
  22. 19 DAYS OUT. Lost 20 lbs. in the first 2 weeks, but currently experiencing the 3 week stall (at 2 weeks apparently.) My blood sugar is between 115-125 consistently-down from over 300 consistently. Did my diabetes go away?

    3 week stall

@@Mgenovesejr -The 3 week stall is not uncommon. If you do a search on it, loads of post will come up. I think they tend to happen more frequently with the less you have to lose. I started at a pretty high BMI so I've never personally experienced one. However I also only weigh myself monthly or when I go to the doctor's, whichever comes first. Every time I have set foot on a scale I have seen a loss of some sort. It is entirely possible that because I only weigh monthly I may have experienced a stall and missed it.

    3 week stall

April 8th will be 3 weeks post op for me. Since last week I've hit a stall and I'm not losing weight. I've lost a total of 28 pounds since surgery but I'm discouraged that it's stopped. I know stalls are going to happen but I worry that it's my fault. I'm eating approx 650 calories a day. Trying to get all my protein in but not sure I always do. I guess I'm just looking for someone who had this experience and what I can do to help start the weight loss again.
  25. I'm 10 weeks post op & I've stalled. For a week now. It's so frustrating. I've stepped up my exercise and even decreased my food intake. I did not go through the 3 week stall. This is my first time. I'm about to go back to a liquid diet for a bit. Any help or suggestions. Thank you ????????
