    I'm confused....too little calories?

At 1500 calories your body will not go into starvation made. Most of the people here eat around 1200. Some like 800-1100. I consider starvation mode to be around 600 calories. Your body might stall after some weight naturally just giving itself time to adjust. The lap band will work how you choose to let it, it won't stop you from eating a cheeseburger and fries. In time, once it's adhered right it should tell you, I'm satisfied, I've eaten enough. It won't physically stop you from eating (not unless you have it to tight, which isn't good). When I had good restriction in the beginning (it's seemed to wear off, now I need to get fills to get back to it) I wasn't hungry for about 4-5 hours and then my stomach would grumble and let me know I was hungry. So I've never had zero hunger, but that is what it is supposed to do. Yes you'll have plateaus, also you may not lose much the first 6 weeks due to healing and, in my eyes, starvation mode, since I was only supposed to eat small amounts and it took til week 5 to get my calories back to over 1000. So I hope this helped

    I'm confused....too little calories?

I have a hard time believing in starvation mode - especially when I see people thinking their body is in starvation mode after a few days of limited caloric intake. I haven't had over 900 calories a day in six months and I'm still losing weight. Sure, I exercise too and eat very clean and healthy but most days I'm eating 600-800 calories. Its not intentional, mind you, I just seriously have to force myself to eat.
  3. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 9/4. I lost 6 lbs. the first 6 days post op then stayed the same for about 6 days. I was bumming out somewhat, and someone on here said do your measurements. I was really glad I did them before surgery. I took my measurements yesterday and lost a total of almost 17 inches!! I could not believe it. And I lost 2 more lbs as well. I read that because of consuming so much protein, fat is turning into muscle which weighs about the same as fat but is smaller, hence losing inches and not weight. Than eventually the fat starts burning off. This made me very happy!! So, anyone who is not losing much in the beginning, I highly recommend measuring :)And I did lose 9 lbs. on the preop diet;so down a total of 17 lbs. and 17 inches. Yay!!!!
  4. Hey everyone, Was wondering about compression shirts and wraps to help prevent loose skin? Ive heard chatter about these products. Anyone tried these? Any success, suggestions? I'm only two weeks out but i want to know any information on preventive measures for loose skin. I'm sure I'm going to have some on my stomach(where i hold the most weight by far)

    Life after the band

Well, it's been nearly 2 months since surgery and I must say the healing process was pretty easy for me. I was really sick the first few days after surgery but a week out I felt really good. I had no appetite until one week after surgey. I was surprised at how much I could actually eat without any issues. Between surgery and my fill I only had one episode with a breakfast buritto. After my first fill (1.5) I had decent restriction for about 2 weeks. In total I have lost 16 pounds, which is less than I hoped for but still moving in the right direction. I have been back at the gym for about 3 weeks and that is making a significant difference. I got my 2nd fill yesterday (2.5 of the floro) and they said I didn't have much left from the orginal fill. That certainly explains the lack of restriction. So, I decided to do the Floro b/c the doc said that it stays much longer. I still think the restriction could be better but I am going to give it a few days. I did notice that in the am I was barely able to get my smoothie down. I guess the trick is to figure out the bagic fill amount which is different for everyone. Well, my goal is still to get to 167. Once I get there we want to think about baby number 2. I am promising myself now that I will NOT gain so much next time around. After baby two my goal will be to get back to 167, and then maybe a TT. I will say that for the first time in my life I feel like I have a little control over this monster. It's amazing to feel full after a small meal, and I just know this is going to work. Plus, with my dedication to excercize I can't sabotage the work I do at the gym. I still struggle a little bit on wether or not this was the right thing to do. I have been such a proud advocate of the fat girl my whole life I wonder if I am letting myself down somewhere but then I think maybe this is the lesson I am learning, maybe understanding that it's ok to seek help is the moral of the story. After all when people have drinking or drug obsessions they seek help, counseling, detox, rehab. Fat people are just considered lazy and people think we should just get it together. It's insane. Since I have lost the weight before the right way I can say I have had both experiences. This way I am starting to realize helps balance my efforts and for that I am greatful. I am sure there is more I will learn on the way. At the end of the day I still feel like there is a purpose to me doing this and that eventually there is something I am supposed to share. Time will tell.
  6. Ok folks I will preface this with saying that I am doing extremely well and I should not be stressing about this. I know that, and I keep telling myself that and I keep doing it anyway. I'm almost a year out. My sleeve was July 23rd, 2014. I'm down 82lbs and am wearing clothes that are less than half the size I was before. I'm feeling great physically, working out 4 times or more a week. Everything is really really good. So why am I so annoyed that I've been stuck at the same weight for a month? I'm sure I'm losing inches, the way my clothes fit is showing that, but that scale will not budge and it is pissing me off. Am I not eating enough for the amount of exercise? Am I not getting enough Protein? I know my carbs are low, I track everything on MyFitnessPal and I always stay well under the allowable carbs and sugar grams. Do I need to eat more? That just sounds absurd! OK so anyone who has been stuck this close to goal....please point me in the right direction. What can I do to get that scale moving again?

    Low sex drive

There was a brief period. I attributed this to the fact that when you're rapidly losing weight your hormones get whacky for a bit. So it could be that. Give it a bit and it should balance out.
  8. Welcome! I'm only 3 months out and am still losing, so I can't sympathize with recent weight gain. But I am definitely upset that my apartment building closed the gym! So glad it's finally summer here in Canada so at least I can go for pleasant walks.
  9. You have barely begun you have 85% less stomach and your body is trying to figure out what is happening give it time to ajust and do yourself a favor stay away from the scale for 2 more weeks if you follow your post op diet you can't fail. We didn't gain wt. overnight loosing it will take time too. Relax and enjoy the wonderful feeling of eating just a little and being full. You know its going to come off!!

  11. Hello, I have a 9 year old daughter and 11 year old son. I would love any feedback or advice on how you told your children about your surgery. I want this to be a healthy experience for all of us. I am concerned my daughter will be worried about my surgery (just the pure physical description of cutting off your stomach), and I also want to send the most positive message possible about healthy choices and what bad choices can do to your body. My husband is naturally slim and can eat large pizzas three times a week and never gains a pound. I, on the other hand, cannot. I am doing this surgery to insure that I correct my bad habits to illustrate to my children what healthy eating can do for a healthy body....and how I communicate my choice to them is part of it. Thanks in advance!
  12. Hi, I'm new to this sight. I finally got approved after 1 year and several appeals later. (Thanks to Obesity Law.com) my surgery date is July 23 @ Holzer Weight Loss Center Gallipolis Ohio.I'm really excited and nervous at the same time.:smile2: I start my pre opt diet on July 9th wish me luck with that.

Now 218lbs. What can I expect?

If you stick to a high Protein diet you should be good. Protein burns fat not muscle. I had my surgery Feb. 28 and started swimming my laps today with no problems. I'm probably older than you (48) but I always had an athletic build since I was young. I was always thin and athletic till I turned 40 and I developed hypothyroidism and watched my weight climb from 125 to 215. One thing you may want to be aware of.... as my dr. explained to me on Friday when I visited him. A 200 lb person is not going to lose weight as fast as a 300 or 400 lb person. I was concerned with why i hadn't dropped the average 20 lbs in 2 weeks post op i always read about. And he said to stop worrying. He explained a 300 person will lose 40 in the same time frame a 200 person loses 20... etc etc etc. I have consistant weight loss of about 1/2 lb per day. I did have the 3rd week stall but i've lost 4 lbs this week so far (monday is my 4 week post op) I also have the (2x c-section) hangover but it is getting smaller. Anyway.... i'm rambling. Keep up your protein and you should keep your muscle.

Congrats!! Welcome to the loser's bench. Just remember to take it easy for a few days, take your pain meds if needed...you will be amazed at how little you will be eating these days. My daughter goes to Dr. Kurian in NYC, surgery tho was done in Houston. But she's lost almost a hundred pounds in 15 months. (and gained a new boy-toy..lol) So good luck on the next leg of your journey Trisha (pennreporter)

    ABORT SURGERY!

I had the exact same problem. I was in Virginia when I had my first surgery. They took me to the operating room and unfortunately they couldn't do it since my liver was enlarged. When I went to sacramento to see dr. Eslami in sacramento Slimlifesolutions.com he operated on me three months later and I got my sleeve. I think it all depends in surgeons experience. The only thing is I had to pay cash since my insurance didn't cover here in ca. I'm so happy with the surgery and so thankful to dr. Eslami. I was informed that having enlarge liver is common and happens in over weight patients. I would recommend dr. Eslami he's a great bariatric surgeon. I don't know where you live but you should check out their website. Mary, Love my new life

    Lap Band in 2008

I went through something very similar I got my band in 2009 and was almost at my goal and had the same symptoms and had all the fluid removed and gained almost all of my weight back and now at a point where I'm feeling resrcition. Yes, i feel like I failed myself gaining that weight back but i also know that I can do it again and so can you. Be encouraged.
  19. Has anyone with type 2 diabetes had sudden drops in blood sugar on the pre-op diet?. I don't officially start my pre-op diet until the 17th, but I've been replacing lunch with a Protein drink. About three hours later, my blood sugar drastically drops. I've cut down on my metformin to see if it helps. I plan to call my pcp if it continues. I'm happy that it might be a sign that I can go off my diabetes meds after I lose weight, but concerned about how I will make it through the pre-op diet. A plus-since I've been trying to eat healthier, I'm craving protein, and my cravings for sweets aren't quite as bad for now. I don't know if that will last!

    Not losing weight!

The key is to look at the positive. You are loosing and not gaining weight. I have been in the same situation and am currently 29 weeks post sleeve (tomorrow). My weight loss has slowed to about 1 lb a week for the past 2 months. I have tried several different things (less calories, more calories, more Water, more Protein, more exercise) but the weight just doesn't seem to budge. I will loose 2 lbs in one day then gain 1 lb the next day. I have tried not checking my weight daily (sometimes AM and PM when I am obsessing about weight. The only thing this does is cause me more stress and that in turn slows weight loss. So.... I chant to myself that I am loosing weight slowly so the weight will stay off. When I am tempted (friends never understand the sabotage they offer to my goal at this time of year with all the goodies they bake) I tell myself that by sticking to my goals now, I will enjoy the holidays next year in a smaller body. Hang in there (what else can you do...have them put back the excised stomach?!?)

    Sad/fustrated. ..

It's easy to be sad and frustrated...we all want our excess weight off and we want it to happen fast. Our bodies take the time it needs to do just that. Yes, it is very common to stall...just keep getting in your Protein, Water and Vitamins...if you follow the plan, it will come off. You will hit stalls, throughout the entire process. Chin up, all is good

    This feels amazing

I felt exactly the same way when I learned about the band and found out my insurance would cover it. I had no problem loosing the weight before surgery because I FINALLY felt like there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Getting the band was the best thing I have ever done for myself and it is making me healthier every day! Keep up the good work girls!!!
