    what's the one thing?

I know the thread is entitled "the one thing", but I made a list for my Lap Band Scrapbook last night (yeah, I'm a dork) and figured I'd go ahead and post that here because it never hurts to see everyone's NSV goals. If anything, maybe it will remind someone of something they forgot to look forward to and inspire them to work out extra hard that afternoon! And hopefully that will do the same for me as I read the responses of others! #1: More than anything listed below, I cannot WAIT until I am able to go shopping and purchase adorable clothes with my friends in "normal" department stores and boutiques. While I enjoy helping them pick out cute clothes, I'd much rather sift through the clearance racks for my own self! Others I'm hella excited about in the future: able to shop instore @ Victoria's Secret (I'm a 42DD/DDD now and have to buy bras online.) able to sit with legs crossed like the lady I am able to rock a cute sundress and not look pregnant able to kayak (I think the weight limit is 250) able to skydive (plan to do this in August!!!) able to wear the following sizes: 16, 14, 12, 10 able to walk perfect in high heels no more double chin visible collar bone able to dance at clubs and concerts with confidence able to strut around comfortable in a swimsuit able to look cute wearing things above-the-knee thighs that don't rub together as bad can no longer fit into Torrid/Lane Bryant/etc.
  2. Surgery on Monday July 29th. Still sore and trying to get fluids down. Went to the bathroom and low and behold..a small BM. No shakes or food (just isopure) so I don't know where it came from. No meds to help out. Just automatic. Anybody else that lucky? Pre Surg: 274 Today: 268

    "I'm sorry, I almost didn't recognize you!"

Awesome! A lady at my Jazzercise class came up to me after class and said 'you have REALLY lost a lot of weight' and it made my day. My scale has not budged for awhile so I have to get by on compliments and NSVs until my next fill. ;->
  4. Yes, there are a lot of acronyms here. I've listed just the ones related to weight loss surgery, not ones in common use, such as LOL (laugh out loud). Be sure to let me know of any I've missed: BMI: Body Mass Index CW: Current Weight DS: Duodenal Switch weight loss surgery EWL: Excess Weight Loss FF: Fat Free GBP: Gastric Bypass GW: Goal Weight LBL: Lower Body Lift MO: Morbidly Obese NSV: Non Scale Victory, such as fitting in an airline seat NUT: Nutritionist OH: Obesity Help, another good online forum PB2: Peanut Butter 2 (peanut powder substitute for peanut butter) PCP: Primary Care Physcian PPI: Proton Pump Inhibitor, such as Prilosec RNY: Roux-eN-Y (gastric bypass) weight loss surgery SF: Sugar Free SMO: Super Morbidly Obese SW: Surgery Weight TT: Tummy Tuck VBG: Vertical Banded Gastroplasty weight loss surgery VSG: Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy weight loss surgery VST: Vertical Sleeve Talk, our wonderful forum WLS: Weight Loss Surgery
  5. Soon you will need to donate these clothes you are washing and buy all new ones!! Congrats on your NSV : )
  6. It is amazing to me that at nearly 3 weeks out the changes I see already. Obviously the initial loss, the clothing getting loose, more energy etc... But something that I have noticed is the decrease in my resting heart rate, before surgery high 70s to low 80s was my norm, when I would be up doing stuff I would find myself in the low 120s, which always created an out of breath, sweaty mess. I am a regular pulse checker.... And there's an app for that. So I do keep track. I now sit in the low to mid 60s and when I am up doing stuff... The 90s. Amazing what a 10% decrease in body weight can do!

    Can You Feel The Band?

NSV- non scale victory = "My clothes fit better but the scale doesn't notice" - My cholesterole is down 20 pts,, I can do a yoga pose I couldn't do 5 months ago, I feel so much more confident, etc., etc...the list goes on and the scale doesn't budge. Scales are an inaccurate way of moderating health and fitness!!!!

Can't Belive She Said That To Me!!!

Congratulations!! That's a lot of NSVs!! You are rocking it!!!
  12. I do look at my weight in terms of pounds lost, but increasingly more important are the NSVs that I'm having. I was wondering how important to you they are too. In this poll are ten NSVs that may or may not apply to you. Which do apply and how important are they? Please vote for up to three NSVs and let's get an idea of the most popular ones.

    NEW ON HERE !

#1: Stop watching those YouTube videos! If you go looking for negativity, you'll find it and stress yourself out needlessly. #2: Find something positive to focus on. (Obvious, I know). There are tons of posts on this site alone that are inspiring. One of my favorites is What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back" Sorry, I don't know how to make it a link for you to go directly to, but you can search for it. Before my surgery, it was a reminder of all of the reasons why I chose to make such drastic changes to my body. There are others about achieving goals and NSVs that are so encouraging and hopeful. They can all remind you of the wonderful life you have to look forward to. #3: I know the liquid diet is hard. But it doesn't last forever. And when you get tempted or feel overwhelmed, refer back to #2. Remember why this decision was so important for you to make. #4: Call a friend, go for a walk, make a list of all of the rewards you want to give yourself when you reach certain milestones, do something nice for yourself today. You're almost there. You can do this. And you are worth it. Write those words on post-it notes and cover every available surface of your home, your car, your office . . . the dog if you have one. And good luck! You've got this.
  14. Ok, I've been a Kohl's shopper for years. You know those discount coupons you get every month...the ones that you peel and are either 15, 20 or 30% off your entire purchase? Well I ALWAYS get 15%. It's kind of a joke with my daughter, who always manages 30%. Yesterday I got my first 30% off so of course I had to go shopping! Off I went, collected jeans, slacks, and tops to try on. Everything was too big! I had to buy size 4 jeans and slacks! Yes...I said 4! I never wore a 4 before, not even as a teenager. OMG! I called my daughter and we cried tears of joy! I ended up just buying a few things, but what an experience! Pictures coming soon.

    So just what is success?

To me, the goal isn't just once I've reached my destination, but the journey I'm making and watching how the NSVs stack up. I'm enjoying it as I go. Sounds dumb, but not sure I'll be any happier once I get there. Kinda like working a puzzle. Once you finish........then what?

    Most Important NSVs

I don't guess I'm TOO surprised about the clothes being the top of the list. After all, how we dress is an outward reflection of how we feel inside as well as a statement of our identity. Stands to reason it would be a biggie. I love ALL the NSVs. No matter how small. Found a new one last night. I kept having to swivel my wedding ring around to put the setting back on top, when I finally realized what it was I was doing it was all I could do to not go wake hubby up to share the good news! LOL

    NSV!!!!

Fitting into smaller sizes is a fantastic NSV, really shows you are shrinking. To have fun shopping instead of dreading how you will find anything that fits is awesome. Keep up the good work!
  18. Whatever pictures you need to help keep you motivated, you should take! I try to take at least one face and one full body shot a month. However, I've noticed in the last month that I am much happier in front of a camera than ever before! I actually posed WITH the bride and friends for a series of pictures at a bachelorette party last weekend! NSV time: I was NOT the biggest girl in the group by a long shot!!!
  19. Sleeved 8/19. I've lost 31lbs since I started my pre op diet 7/19. 18lbs since surgery. Today I tried on a size 14 skinny jean AND they FIT!!!! I was doing a hapoy dance in the dressing room! Lol! Yay for NSVs!
  20. From the album: Progress Photos!

Most candid shots of me, throughout my entire life, have typically been mortifying. Lately I've been noticing that I don't hate (even like?) them! THAT is a pretty awesome NSV!!
  21. I went shopping today because I desperately needed pants that fit. I wasn't sure what would fit so I tried on 16's and they were too big. Then I tried on 14's and they were kinda loose. I thought just for jiggles I'd try on some 12's and they fit! I was so shocked I actually broke down crying in the changing room. I have always been good at keeping my emotions locked down tight, but in there at that moment, I totally lost it and started bawling and LOUD. The changing room attendant knocked on the door and asked if I was ok. It took me awhile, but I managed to get the words out that I was ok and that I had found out I was a smaller size than I thought I was. I'M sure she thought I had lost my ever loving mind, but for me, this is a monumental thing. I had been an overweight kid and an obese adult, my entire life! The size I put on and zipped up, I NEVER had been that size. The closest I had to being that size was a size 11 juniors in 4th grade, so here I am, over 30yrs later and I am finally smaller than I was in 4th grade. It was monumental. I also discovered why it's important to check the price tag before falling in love with a pair of pants because $115 for a pair of pants I probably won't get more than a couple months wear out of was just too much, so I had to put them back. Broke my heart, but I did go on to find other 12's and some 14's that worked and I am officially not plus sized anymore. I can shop in the regular section with all the cute clothes!❤️ From 32/34 and some 36 down to a size 12 in less than a year...all I can say is wow! Thanks RNY for giving me a life I didn't know was attainable!

    NSV

Was hanging out with my (skinny) friend, looking in shops and whatnot. Ended up in Target with which I have a love/hate relationship. Their prices can be great but their sizing sucks. So, a short sleeved cardigan caught my eye. I handed my purse to my friend and said "I'm going to try this on but I know it won't fit." after all, it was a Large and I barely fit in XXL in that store. Well, imagine my shock when it slipped right on and fit comfortably even with my shirt underneath. Goes to show that when you aren't feeling like you're doing so great, you can be presently surprised!
  23. OMGoodness!!!!!OMGoodness!!!! I just did a happy dance around the whole entire house!!!! I just tried on a pair of capris I bought for this summer. I was thinking by then I "might" be able to fit them. Guess what they fit!!!!! I had to pull my very large oversized shirt out of the way but I snapped a picture of me wearing them. By the way, I have not worn this size since middle school, maybe 6 and 7th grade?!?!? I am just so excited that I had to shout it out to the world!!! I am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel as I only have 12 more pounds to lose!!!
  24. Road Queen
