Swimming, Bathing and Mederma

3 weeks out and my dr told me yesterday to enjoy the pool. My incisions have all closed up, so there is no chance of infection -
Hello All, My sleeve surgery date is August 11th. I'm excited about this new chapter in my life. I've embraced the journey. I'm currently on Day 9 of my 2-week pre-op diet. It hasn't been as hard as I imagined, but it hasn't been easy. I can't wait to eat real food again...no matter how small the amount. lol.

When Does Pureed Come In?
mufasas-mom replied to jaded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on full liquids week 1-2 then soft wk 3 and now regular food as tolerated. Am making pot roast now. I had zero gas pains and minimal pain so happy w my surgeon. -
Has anyone ever gave in to food post op? Im only a week out and Im suppose to be only on liquid. I had a few tiny bites of things, chewed them up really well. Did I ruin everything you think? How can I fall off this wagon already!? Its only been a week! I think my problem is, i havent seen any weight loss prior to the nibbling. So, I got discouraged. Dang it! I feel like ive failed myself, my sleeve, my body. Urgh! * Misty *

6 month supervised diet
Chasity Henson replied to shirley36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the 6months of dr supervised diet. I was getting Lipotropic injections which is basically B12 shots with other vitiamins in them too. It supposed to help you have more energy and burn your stored fat. I also quit the sodas but i still had a problem with bread and potatoes. I started the program at 285 lbs and finished the 6 months at 274 and it fluxated up an down each week. About 6 weeks before mine was up i got really serious about this thing and started doing the replacement shake for my lunches and eating a normal dinner at night. I also started using www.myfitnesspal.com to help me keep up with how many calories i was consuming thru out the day. I am now at 272 and i have been approved by the insurance company i am just waiting on a date. I can tell you that when i started this in April it feel like it was so far away but really it goes by pretty quickly. Good luck and be honest with the dr when you guys talk about your weaknesses during the monthly consult and weigh in. -

Sorry bout that, don't be too jealous, three bites of grits and I'm done. I share a bowl of grits with my 18 month old most mornings, I get 3 bites and she eats the rest. It's kinda said that she can eat more than me now. -

My insurance approved in 3 days. Some take 2 weeks or longer. Good luck!

Yep, I can vouch for that! Just last week I was on here moaning about the disappearance of my restriction - yet woke up yesterday morning - and bam! It was back! Bizarre!

I'm going from band to sleeve in 2 weeks!!!! I'm super nervous! I know there is nothing to be nervous about but since my band and I failed each other I'm afraid of failure again although I am excited about my new journey. Auh!!!!

I dunnnooooo.......I tried them and the fat really wasn't fun for my sleeve. I am only speaking from what my surgeon said to me ..but he said that a fat can be "toxic" to our tummies. Too much really wreaks havoc. You may have a better tolerance for them than I do. I was wanting some crunch and salt and low carb, but pork rinds just weren't the answer. (And I think I only ate 3 of them..or close to that number).

I need guidance, help, motivation!
Msbandtastic replied to acasner's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I read what you had to say and it gave me a lot to think about. I feel that your way of doing things might be the right way for me to but right now I am afraid to try it. I am only six weeks post op. Right now I am following the rules to the letter and doing great but I am definitely obsessed with food and my next meal. I believe your way would help to really end this obsession. Another thing I am interested in is the concept of eating only when I am hungry. Right now I am eating when it is "time" to eat at 8, 12, and 6. I have never been able to stand being hungry and to be honest have never allowed myself to be hungry. It is a novel idea and one I might think about experimenting with. I can always go back to the "rules" after a week or two if it didn't work. Thank you for the ideas. -
We aren't all completely gung ho about this all the time. Most of us lose motivation. When the motivation is gone habits will kick in (wether they are good or bad). So start developing the habits you need to be successful. Start doing things you did at the begining like logging your food and excercise. Counting your Water. Even if you are not doing 100 % what you should it gives you a starting point to work on. If you had 3 glasses of water today aim for 4 tommorrow. If you had 2 cups today try 1 3/4 cups tommorrow. I had been stuck from June until last month. I started back excercising on a schedule. Planning meals. I am on a losing trend again. Make a plan, try your best to follow it, record, improve each day. The key for me is to make it automatic. I don't make food choices when I am hungry. They have already been made and written down earlier in the week. Also having someone review my food log keeps me motivated to stick to the plan. The nutritionist at my doc office is good about it. I also have fall back plans. If life happens and I end up not having time to cook for me and my family we go somewhere I KNOW will have a wise and yummy choice for me. I have learned not to expect my weightloss journey to go perfectly. We will slip and stumble just keep going though. Also remember this is something that is achievable and you can be the one to achieve it. I love this quote and it goes along with what I am saying. "The will to win means nothing if you haven't the will to prepare." - Juma Ikangaa, 1989 NYC Marathon winner. Prepare to do it is the first step. Good luck to you and feel free to pm me if you wanna talk more.

Hi! I was banded 3-7-11 and have had a "lump" sensation in my throat for most of the time since then. I also had hiatal hernia repair and am still having acid reflux. I thought that was supposed to stop after surgery? The feeling of something in my throat drives me nuts! I drink water but it doesnt seem to help. Anyone else have this annoying feeling in their throat or reflux problems? What causes it and what should I do about it? Help!! Thanks!

I'm a bit post post-op (about 20 months after a VSG) and things have been pretty unremarkable since the initial loss. But recently I've had two episodes out of the blue, unlike anything I've experienced before. The first time, I thought I was having a heart attack. A vague nauseous feeling turned into a chest tightness. It was like the wind was knocked out of me and I couldn't breathe beyond tiny gasps for about 20 minutes. Long story short, it wasn't a heart attack and all cardiac tests showed my heart to be working perfectly. Needless to say, it was scary as hell, and the anxiety that I might be having a heart attack was enough to give me one! But then it happened again, a few weeks later. This time I really tried to focus on what was causing me distress. I think that it was a muscle spasm, focused in my upper abs and/or mid back. Maybe the diaphragm but it really felt more like a tight band wrapping around my lower ribs, forcing me to exhale; the diaphragm would force an inhale. Stretching and massaging helped a little, but was really hard to do in the moment. I'm really worried now about it happening while I'm at work or out in public. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I'm wondering if my GI tract triggered a spasm for some reason.

Back on LBT... looking for support @ 5 yr bandaversary

Sorry...I am having a hard time following your timeline....first you say you had it removed? Then you say you had a fill, actually 2? Developed cysts size of grapefruits.....where? related to the band? What was done about them... I take it "Merina" is the name you fave your band? And you refer to it as that "Evil Device" which implies you hate it, and when you hate something often times we rebel against it, have no respect for it, and refuse to cooperate and work with it.... People often refer to the band as a "Tool"...I get it....but for me, the tool is the "Master" controlling my eating and behaviors...I do not, and cannot control the band...it controls me...that is not a tool.....step out of line, and try to fight it would only end up with me being miserable, and ultimately a failure... Learning to "Listen" to it, following the rules it demands, (not anyone elses) results in harmony and makes life, and this journey "Easy" The hardest part of this for me was learning what the heck was going on...and there are not many people around to explain it to me, or maybe there were too many opinions as to what to do that only confused the situation.......I had 3 fills...after my last one my world was turned upside down...it took me another 2-3 months to figure it all out and find that "Groove" And what I found out for myself, does not mean it is what everyone else had found that works best for them... I do not like to tell other people what to do...only what I have experienced for myself...I do know many people when trying to find their way, go back to step one and start to build up again... -
I had a my first fill at the end of last month. I did fine with it, stayed on liquids and mushies for a few days, and I definitely could feel a difference. Since about last week I'm noticing that I can eat more and don't feel full as fast (it's also that special time of the month). I'm going back to the doc on Wednesday but I was just curious if this happened to anyone else. I hope my band isn't leaking or something!

Sounds like the virus that has been going around. I felt that way for a week before it hit me full on.

I agree with them call your DR. Plus sometimes it can take up to a week to feel a fill and also we swell when fills so could be just that, can wait a few days and see if it gets better, can try some liguid ibuprofen too.
